Neat little game for a buck that I would liken a bit to a small desk ornament. I would describe the game as being very "noncommittal" in both price and gameplay and as such I encourage you to come into the game with that mindset.
Gameplay is simple enough and runs are fairly luck based when it comes to the upgrades you get. This luck is reasonably controllable however and there is even a hat that gives you near full control over it. Don't feel too bad about using that one either, the game is just 1 dollar afterall so its not worth any huge moral dilemmas over difficulty or "cheating" or anything like that.
If you are still hung up over that kind of stuff (like me) there is still a way to achieve pretty much the same thing "legit" which may or may not improve your enjoyment of the game
Meta progression is pretty limited in both scope and impact and while there are a pretty decent number of different upgrades once you have explored the various different builds out there you probably won't feel the need to try them again.
You might like it alot or a little or not at all, but you don't lose much for trying with its dirt cheap pricetag. Worst comes to worst you end up with a slightly larger steam library, which has to count for atleast a dime or a quarter or something right?
Otherwise you will be left with a decent experience that once you are finished with you can either move on or leave it installed for when you don't have internet or something. For what its worth, its hard to go wrong with this one considering the price.
