"Just one more turn." Oh, you thought you were gonna play for 15 minutes? Nope, you're playing for 15 hours. Man this game is amazing. There's a lot of improvements i like in Civ VI but V is just so much... cleaner? smoother? The aesthetics and gameplay is just better. The tone and graphics being more serious. Simpler game mechanics but lots of depth to them. Better pacing on standard speed. Much better policy system and worker system. If you want to experience the pinnacle of civilization games, fire up Civ V.

One of the most dangerous games I've ever encountered. Time has a way of slipping by without a care in the world. One moment the sun is out and you're feeling chipper. The next, you're trying to balance out your nation's economy while also trying to maintain some temporary peace with your neighboring countries after some border disputes gone sour. All this done, of course, under the pale moonlight because you've just spent 10 hours playing this game without realizing it. Absolute gas.

Just played this again on my mac, and my computer sends me a request saying the game wants to record all of my keystrokes. So, that matches what people are saying about the eula. Too bad Windows doesn't make it easier to block crappy behavior from software companies like that.

I have fond memories of playing the Civ series. I started with Civ 2 where my brother and I played Civil War scenarios and gave nukes to Gandhi, then Alpha Centauri, then Civ 3 which was so addicting I had to quit PC games altogether just to keep from failing in school! Now, a few years later, I'm getting back into PC gaming. I actually got reintroduced to Civ from playing Civ 7 on VR. It brought back these fond memories, but I was looking for something more familiar, and I saw Civ 5 has the best rating of the series. I'm really happy with this game. Graphics, gameplay, improvements over older versions, add-ons, online play, and now all the YouTube content which makes it easy to deep-dive and appreciate this game. It's not just domination and science victories anymore; religion, trade, and culture are fun variables to play with as well. Overall, I spend more time playing this game than I even realize. But it's a mixture of relaxing (being turn-based means I don't need lightning-fast reflexes unlike RTS games) and satisfying (so many strategies and historical references). Overall, an excellent game you won't regret investing in.

2K changed their EULA to make their games literal spyware. I will never play another 2K game again.

It's honestly fun, and I've been trying to understand it desperately, but for some reason it started crashing at launch. So I don't think I can give it a thumbs up for now. If I figure out a fix, I will update my review. Otherwise, it's an okay CIV game, assuming you don't run into the same crash issues.

This game was absolutely great and as much as I would like to recommend it I can never recomend putting all, and I mean ALL of your personal data in such a vulnerable state. Played civ3, civ4 and now playing civ5. One of the best turn based games. The gaming logic, the animation, the music, the city, troops, diplomacy, policy, faith etc etc, everything is just 'AWESOME'

Civilization V is one of the best games ever made. Unciv is an open-source recreation of Civilization V and its Gods & Kings expansion, with a mod adding Brave New World's features as well. Don't give Take-Two your money, unless you like them recording your name, gender, age, address, and credit card number, plus more fun extras!

Buyer Beware!! After playing this game for over a thousand hours, it suddenly stopped working. I have uninstalled/re-installed it several times now and it simply won't play. I can't find any support from Steam, so I'm telling everyone Buyer Beware, this game is unstable. It was fun when it worked... meh!

Once you really start getting the game it becomes addicting. Every game can be different and time consuming but truly a perfect strategy game

Great game but workers get bugged around turn 100 and stop working

This is a great game in the whole Civilization collection. For features and playability, it may be the best of the lot (through Civ VI).

It’s one of the most addictive turn-based strategy games ever made, and even years after release, it still holds up incredibly well. Gameplay mechanics are near-perfect. The switch to a hex-based map and the one-unit-per-tile (1UPT) system completely changed how combat and movement feel, forcing you to think way more tactically than in earlier Civ games. City management, diplomacy, and cultural growth are all handled well and offer plenty of strategic layers without feeling overwhelming. Score: 9/10. Narrative isn’t really a focus—this is Civilization, after all. The story here is the one you create: whether you build a peaceful cultural empire or go full warmonger, it’s all about emergent storytelling. That said, there’s not much in the way of character development or structured plotlines. Score: 5/10. Graphics are clean and readable. It’s not flashy, but the stylized art holds up well, especially when zoomed out on a fully developed continent. Leader animations were a big leap at the time too. Score: 7/10. Sound and music are fantastic. The soundtrack adapts to your civilization and era, and the ambient sound effects make turns feel alive. Voiceovers for techs and wonders add charm and immersion. Score: 8/10. Replayability is through the roof. Tons of civs to choose from, different map types, difficulty settings, random starting conditions, and loads of mods make every run feel fresh. The hex tiles, 1UPT combat, revamped city-states, and DLC expansions like Brave New World helped push Civ into modern strategy territory. Score: 9/10. In short, Civ V is a classic. After 300 hours in this game, I think it's safe to say that I like it. There's just something about having so many possibilities and combinations for success that keeps me coming back over and over. This is flawless when in single-player and a riot in multiplayer. I'll be slowly collecting the achievements forever, I just wish I could get them in multiplayer!
