"Just one more turn." Oh, you thought you were gonna play for 15 minutes? Nope, you're playing for 15 hours. Man this game is amazing. There's a lot of improvements i like in Civ VI but V is just so much... cleaner? smoother? The aesthetics and gameplay is just better. The tone and graphics being more serious. Simpler game mechanics but lots of depth to them. Better pacing on standard speed. Much better policy system and worker system. If you want to experience the pinnacle of civilization games, fire up Civ V.

One of the most dangerous games I've ever encountered. Time has a way of slipping by without a care in the world. One moment the sun is out and you're feeling chipper. The next, you're trying to balance out your nation's economy while also trying to maintain some temporary peace with your neighboring countries after some border disputes gone sour. All this done, of course, under the pale moonlight because you've just spent 10 hours playing this game without realizing it. Absolute gas.

Civ V has been installed in my library since I bought the game back in 2012. I would occasionally come back to it; it was such a good civilization game. 2K updated their EULA and this cannot be tolerated. Do not give greedy 2K your data they don't need for the game you already paid for. A harsh reminder that no one truly owns anything anymore.

Let me be clear, i gave you MONEY so i could play your games alone. NOT to give you unneeded access to personal information you have zero right to. You guys lost me after the chaotic great edition ripoff that was wonderlands, but this? Retroactivly changing every EULA for every game you have ever made to give you the "right" to our data Beyond the pale,i truly hope that your company fails due to your own stupidity and greed.

Just played this again on my mac, and my computer sends me a request saying the game wants to record all of my keystrokes. So, that matches what people are saying about the eula. Too bad Windows doesn't make it easier to block crappy behavior from software companies like that.

Welcome to Spyware, the new corporate anthem of 2K. I dearly wish game publishers would stick with making games, and maybe some fun and innovative ones again. Instead, "customers" own nothing and are just treated as data points to harvest for excessive profit. I loved this game, but no more games from this publisher so long as they continue making such anti-consumer choices.

Started the game up after a hiatus, only to realize it literally doesn't work. Can't start a game without having a black screen with bugged icons. Neither multiplayer nor singleplayer works. Also read about their new EULA, disgusting behaviour. -uninstall

Great work on ruining this game with your toxic EULA changes 2K.. Pro tip: If you click a publisher of a game (at the top) to view their publisher page, you can click the cog symbol to ignore this publisher

Negative review because I can no longer play the game. I cannot agree (who would?!?) to allowing some rando to have rootkit level access to my machine and personal data harvested. Uninstalled. All folders deleted. HD sectors overwritten with noise. Hard drive scanned with two anti-maleware apps.

This game was absolutely great and as much as I would like to recommend it I can never recomend putting all, and I mean ALL of your personal data in such a vulnerable state. This company has become entirely evil and should be completely stripped of any device that has it installed. This has become nothing more than SPYWARE.

I almost feel like you either like real time strategy (RTS) like Age of Empires, or you like turn-based strategy like this. I tried for a while with Civ 5 and there were a lot of neat features, but that long playtime probably translates to just a few games lol everything takes so long to do, games take forever to complete. There are some good mods at least. I'm just not the target demographic.

despite everything, this is still the best civ game ever made, and one of the best strategy games ever made. would be really awesome if i could launch it, though. the bug where i'll try to launch the game and it'll just stop booting up stopped happening to me a while ago and its been fine for months but now its back, and that made me realize that they NEVER actually fixed this issue, you just have to pray that it'll work after pressing the "play" button 1000 times thanks 2k. </3 please fix this.

when i was a very young man living in the middle of nowhere without internet for several years playing this game daily was a fun experience despite it being singleplayer i loved this game the most after i spent years playing civ 3 but then for some unknown reason 2k decided that they had to flood it with spyware and a changed eula all for nothing but a landslide of negative reviews so ill add mine onto the pile and throw this into hidden until maybe in a decade or two when the company finally sinks from pushing out terrible unfinished sequels and incredibly scummy, underhanded, unethical business decisions directed by the head of 2k that maybe itll all be gone and i can play this masterpiece in peace OH and before i forget mods are now a bannable offense

My most played game on Steam (as of review). Fantastic strategy game overall, great aesthetics even for a nearly 15 year old game. Main caveat is probably only buy if you buy the Complete Edition (goes on sale at least each major sale) as the base game is maybe a 5/10, but with the expansions is one of the best games ever made in my opinion. They add so much that the base game is barren without it.

You start a game to relax for 30 minutes before bed. Suddenly it's 4 AM, you're trying to outmaneuver Napoleon for oil, Gandhi has nuked your coastal cities, and you're calculating the optimal turn for a diplomatic victory. Still playing. Still losing. Still loving it.

This Civ is really good if you like domination via a large naval fleet. You can have dozens if not hundreds of naval units without it breaking your bank. Something CIV VI doesn't do as well and CIV VII? Well, we don't talk about that one

Its an amazing game only the best from this franchise. However.... It has one fatal flaw and that is to do with the capture of city's. The problem is if you take over a city with a full health melee regiment and that city HP pool is low enough for its capture your soldiers will march on in and take over while losing about half of their hp, this is not to take into consideration of the garrisoned unit inside the city. Now if it was a range unit garrisoned i would expect their fight to take place in the city and get destroyed by overwhelming them that makes sense, but if it was a melee unit garrisoned i would expect to be going against the HP pool of city AND the garrison with just my melee unit, but no. Instead you could take the city with no problems disregarding whoever is garrison inside the city (that makes no sense) lose half your regiments hp and get counter attacked by some regiment that could have FULL hp or just a slither of health left it does not matter, That bugs me the wrong way and just allows tedious take over the city ruining its population and construction time, its like you have to completely clear the area before you take over and you need a lot of troops for that.
A classic for a reason, Civ 5 is a game every gamer should have in their library. 5/5
On my scale, a 5/5 game is a masterpiece. These games stay with you and invoke the strongest sense of accomplishment, mastery, and creativity. Some may change your life, while others provide a perfect gaming experience. Some of these define their genres and cast shadows everyone else dreams of escaping, while others completely transform the genre entirely or open up a whole new pathway for game development. Civ 5 is so good, it casts a shadow over the rest of the franchise. They need to innovate to justify why you would ever buy something new instead of Civ 5, but they already created the perfect Civ game so they’re cooked. 5 > 6 > 7 Civ 5 is like playing a virtual board game, with a ton of potential complexity (but also with a certain simplicity to it). Most of the Civs play demonstrably different, although standardized strategies continue to work. Highly recommend my personal favorite settings, which involve randomizing everything including starting Civ and seeing what you have to deal with. Under no circumstances should anyone ever pay full price for this. Wait for one of the quarterly steam sales when it and all of the DLCs go on sale for like 90% off. Buy the bundle for like $15-20 and you have a game that will give you hundreds of hours of fun alone AND with friends. At the same time, under no circumstances should anyone play the base game of this. It is criminal that buying this game without DLC is even an option. You either play this with all the add ons or not at all. Base Civ is so bare it is the video game equivalent of eating cardboard.

The game that started my addiction to the genre and series. Despite how old the game is, I still love the art style and gameplay and can return to at anytime. So many hours spent in this game with a great amount of leaders and scenarios to try. Definitely need to have DLC to fully enjoy the game but definitely worth it.

My first Civ game I played. I tried 6 but it honestly wasnt as good as 5. 7 is just a steaming pile of you know what. this 15 year old game still has me addicted to building an empire to stand the test of time. Also if youre a mac user, there is a bug where if an ai liberates their capital it crashes the game and there's no fix for that other than not letting ais recapture their capitals. I've had to cheese a few games to get around this. REALLY wish this was fixed when the devs cared for this game
