FSX is a great flight simulator that can run on most devices. For a casual, it's a great sim with missions and tutorials, which are just not there in MSFS or 2024. To genuinely have fun, FSX is amazing, but at least in my experience, the limitation of the sim makes it hard for prolonged periods. I like to have flights that can go on for hours, it's frustrating to run out of vas or just crash when at the finish line. Or the game keeps on crashing after 30 minutes, which I have to solve by getting a UIAutomationCore.dll from the Windows folder. It's worse when uninstalling, as I have to repeat the steps. If you are looking for a full fidelity experience and don't already own addons for this game, I would not recommend it. Investing in an older sim is just not worth it, as most of these old addons will never reduce in price other than during sales. If you are looking for a realistic experience, it's better to put your money elsewhere or a modern sim. The game is old and great for what it is, but it's not worth spending money on.

HOW TO FIX THIS GAME NOT LAUNCHING: Go to the game files for this game (FSX). Find the FSX.EXE file and try running that. Also try making FSX.EXE an administrator if you're having issues. I'm not entirely certain how I made it work but I know for sure it was through FSX.EXE in the game files so try checking fsx.exe if you're having issues launching this game Not too bad of a game

I want to play this game, but I can't. It just complains that I don't have enough disk space, when I have well over 100GB free on both my local and network drives. Waste of money for me!

This is literally the only flight simulator that can run on my old day laptop that ran extremely smooth except the game freezing xd after digging some that are found to be complicated and buggy, but this??! it amazing despite it age it still hold remarkably well during this era, I find it really fun experimenting and learning how flying works it not as janky or complex as the other I tried, hopefully microsoft flight simulator X get the best attention of this! worth the budget I bought from! this is the first time I have ever tried this flight simulator so far this deserve a recommendation as the graphics are highly accessible to any people hardware for the most realistic flight simulator.

Great flight simulator especially if you've installed the right freeware/payware add-ons. I can fly to almost anywhere I want to. I've learnt how to do ILS approaches in a week. However since it is a quite old game, You may run into some issues like for me : The missions dont load, The sim crashes when i try to open the menu dropdown ( an apparent fix seems to be to delete uiautomationcore.dll) Great for people getting into aviation.

this game is my childhood memory. except. the crash part. really. yes i do crack it went i was a child. but really? how can this game is so buggy. 8/10 my flight gone midway. just because crash. and tbh the dlc not that good. i mean. yes it official airbus. and yes. it fun. and also yes it have first party software for everything. but somehow feel... to basic. specially compare to XPlane 11. with Zibo.. either way sad to say. i cannot recommended it. because the crash so annoying. out of hour in-game. only 3-4-ish, 2 hours flight managed to be done. the rest? either crash. or configure flight plan(that is lest than half of my ingame times!) microsoft. i know you have new baby(MFS2020 and MFS2024) but please.. im BEGGING with my knee. just fix the crash issue with this simulator.

this game STILL SLAPS in 2025. would i recommend buying it in 2025? absolutely not. i realised i had it in my library for 7 years and i was too broke to buy msfs2024 and even if i could my current laptop would explode. this game still has an active modding community and just overall is still an amazing, fun game. just be aware of any bugs.

I enjoy this program because I am familiar with the controls and the scenery is adequate for me. Installed the new big Flight Simulator & didn't even know where to start, but I must admit it all looked impressive. I guess it doesn't even run unless you're on the internet. Same thing with X Plane. MicroSoft came out with an update that completely wiped out FS, Steam, X Plane & all. So I went to MicroCenter & had them totally start over & they re-installed the original 2012 Flight Simulator for me. No thanks to MicroSoft on this one.

Still one of the best ways to feel like a real pilot without ever leaving your couch. The graphics hold up surprisingly well, and the flight physics give you that satisfying mix of challenge and realism. Some controls can be clunky, and it’s definitely a game you learn over time, but once you get the hang of it, soaring over landscapes is pure zen. Perfect for aviation junkies and anyone who wants to kill a few hours pretending to be in the cockpit.

Used to play FSX a ton back in the day and it's always nice to come back to it. It's not as fancy as the newer ones graphically, but it takes nothing away from the fun of this game. Highly suggest it, specially to those who aren't completely sure about plane sims.

This Microsoft shit slop just won't to start on Linux systems, no matter which Proton version I selected. All other games made for Windows worked just happily fine. Prefect demonstration on the code quality of Microsoft, also explained why they're promoting AI. Because compare to their human slops, AI slops is an upgrade.

Though definitely dated by this point, in graphics, simulation, scenery, and just about everything else, the sim still holds up rather well. Especially with the nostalgic charm it still has (for me). As far as I'm concerned though, it's still perfectly usable today, especially if you're on older/weaker/slower hardware. Many airports will be outdated, sure, but you can still find VERY good freeware (better than X-Plane and modern MSFS is some cases, I'd say), and even good payware that's still hanging around, a lot of which is at a discounted price. Even with the outdated airports, I believe (still have to test myself) you can still use Navigraph to have upgraded nav data so that way you can use SimBrief efficiently. I wouldn't dare do VATSIM on FSX unless you really know what you're doing. The default ATC is enjoyable, at least in my experience, but it certainly isn't fully realistic. EDIT: Navigraph does NOT update the base nav data. Only addons. You can find up-to-date nav data elsewhere (I found mine at aero.sors.fr). Again do keep in mind that airports will still be outdated in terms of layout and ILS frequencies.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition (FSX: SE) is a revitalized release of the iconic 2006 flight simulation game, brought to modern PCs through Steam by Dovetail Games. As one of the most influential and beloved flight sims in history, FSX: SE aims to preserve the core experience that made its predecessor a benchmark for realism and depth while improving accessibility, stability, and multiplayer features for today’s gamers. This edition serves both longtime fans longing for nostalgia and newcomers eager to explore the vast skies with unmatched detail and complexity. Despite its age, FSX: SE remains a robust and comprehensive simulation that continues to set a high bar in the genre. The heart of FSX: SE lies in its unparalleled breadth and depth of flight simulation. The game offers an extensive roster of aircraft ranging from light single-engine planes to jumbo jets and military fighters, each meticulously modeled with authentic flight dynamics and systems. Piloting these aircraft involves mastering realistic controls, instrument panels, and navigation tools, making FSX: SE not only a game but also a valuable learning platform for aspiring pilots. The simulation covers a wide range of flight activities including VFR (Visual Flight Rules), IFR (Instrument Flight Rules), aerobatics, and complex procedures like air traffic control communications and flight planning, providing layers of complexity that cater to all skill levels. One of FSX: SE’s standout features is its expansive and detailed world. Leveraging satellite imagery and digital elevation models, the simulator recreates the entire globe, allowing players to fly virtually anywhere—from bustling international airports to remote wilderness airstrips. The landscapes are rich with landmarks, dynamic weather systems, day-night cycles, and realistic air traffic, which together create an immersive and believable flight environment. Weather effects are particularly notable, affecting flight conditions with elements such as turbulence, wind shear, and thunderstorms, challenging pilots to adapt and hone their skills. The Steam Edition improves upon the original by addressing many technical issues and enhancing stability, making the experience smoother on modern hardware. It also integrates Steam Workshop support, enabling players to easily access a vast library of community-created aircraft, scenery, missions, and mods, greatly expanding replayability. The addition of improved multiplayer allows enthusiasts to share the skies, participate in flying clubs, or engage in formation flying, enriching the social aspect of simulation. Visually, FSX: SE still holds up surprisingly well, especially considering its legacy roots. While it lacks the ultra-high-definition photorealism of newer simulators, its textures, lighting, and aircraft models provide a convincing and detailed flight experience. The sound design is immersive too, featuring realistic engine noises, cockpit alerts, and environmental sounds that enhance the sensation of flight. Despite these strengths, FSX: SE is not without its limitations. The user interface, while functional, feels dated and can be daunting for newcomers unfamiliar with flight sims. Some of the menus and controls are cumbersome, requiring patience to master. The learning curve is steep, and casual players may find the sheer volume of information and complexity overwhelming. Additionally, certain graphical elements and animations show their age compared to modern standards, which may affect immersion for some users. Furthermore, while the Steam Edition improved stability, occasional bugs and crashes can still occur, particularly when using extensive third-party add-ons. In conclusion, Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition is a remarkable preservation and enhancement of a genre-defining classic. Its unmatched depth of simulation, vast open world, and wide variety of aircraft make it a comprehensive and rewarding experience for flight enthusiasts. Though it demands a significant investment of time and effort to master, the payoff is an incredibly authentic sense of flying that few games can replicate. For veterans of the series, FSX: SE is a nostalgic journey that feels right at home on modern systems, and for newcomers, it remains a challenging but deeply fulfilling gateway into the world of flight simulation. It’s a testament to the enduring appeal and complexity of flight sims that FSX: SE continues to soar high nearly two decades after its original release. Rating: 8/10

I am an absolute newbie to the whole flight sim thing. Let's be fair - it's complex! MFSX has a lot of help for beginners, very basic stuff under helpful headings, I check some of these out then actually fly for a while (love the way the aircraft bounces when I crash! Taking off is soooo much easier than landing). A Logitech G Saitek Flight Yoke System was a present to myself for my recent 72nd birthday. Steep learning curve for me - any tips on downloading drivers/software welcome (is it me or is their website really clunky?), plus advice on any of the additions for the basic kit, so, I'm thinking rudder pedals next - good idea?

Light aircraft are available in simple to complex; stick and rudder to full digital displays and navigation. It is suitable for future pilot (and copilot) training. Many of my fellow Civil Air Patrol members use this simulator to preview intended personal flights. I'm a "right-seater" in CAP (where we have a second large Garmin display) ; and a sailor who enjoys cruising the San Juan Islands and have hiked to the end of the Friday Harbor runway. It's a beautiful place. Check it out live, when you are able!
