Some games just hit — not because they’re the biggest, or the most expensive, but because they’ve got soul. Sleeping Dogs is one of those. You're Wei Shen — undercover, torn between duty and blood, walking a razor-thin line where every punch thrown feels personal. But this isn’t just another GTA clone. This is Hong Kong — alive, loud, neon-lit and soaked in a culture games rarely portray with this much respect. And when the rain falls, and you're drifting a stolen motorcycle through back alleys after breaking a Triad member's nose? You feel it. Not just the speed — the weight. The world reacts. It doesn’t forget. And neither will you. The combat? Pure grit. No guns blazing. No power fantasy. It's bruised fists, snapped arms, headbutts into air conditioning units. It’s messy. Personal. A brutal ballet. The story? Part undercover cop thriller, part tragic brotherhood tale. It’s got real heat. Real loss. No filler. A masterpiece buried under bigger names. But for those who find it? It never leaves you.

I played this game back on the PS3 years ago and decided to revisit the Definitive Edition on PC and man, this game still slaps. It holds up way better than I expected. The combat is just as satisfying as I remember, slamming enemies into walls, dumpsters and fish tanks never gets old. The story still hits hard too, Wei Shen’s undercover journey is packed with drama, guilt and some genuinely emotional moments. Hong Kong feels alive with all the little details, from street food vendors to random NPC convos. Sure, the driving is still a bit floaty and the gunplay isn’t perfect, but none of that takes away from how fun and immersive it is. Coming back to it felt like meeting an old friend and realizing they’re still as cool as ever.

I first played sleeping dogs back in 2017 (a pirated copy, I’ll admit), and it instantly became my all time favorite, and it still is. The physics are great, the storyline is gripping, and the gameplay is just top tier. hand to hand combat easily the best. I loved SD so much, I’m replaying it now which I rarely do but this time, not a pirated one. I actually bought this as a gesture or something lol :)

My friend recommended me to buy this game because he said Sleeping Dogs is the best open-world themed game. The game is quite exciting, with our main character's dark backstory and a very unique and enjoyable combat mechanic. However, in my opinion, there's one slightly annoying downside, the auto-follow camera, which is difficult to control, especially when you're just starting to drive any vehicle. Aside from that, I find the rest of the game very enjoyable.

Amazing game with an amazing story and gameplay, this was the closest we got to the True Crime series, it's too bad that Sleeping Dogs franchise was killed off and we never got another game/games, Graphics: 10/10 Back when it was first released it looked amazing, it even holds up pretty well today. Gameplay: 8/10 Even though overall it's an amazing, it still has some rough edges, driving can feel a bit clunky at times and guns don't exactly have the best handling out there, but it's still an amazing gameplay none the less, especially at the fighting mechanics, which is majority of the game, fighting is amazing. Sound: 10/10 No issues found. Story: 10/10 There is enough of everything in the story, but in the right amounts, it's very weill written, it has a lot going on, but at the same time, it is not thrown at you at the same time, but everything plays out on it's own time, and everything is very well explained and portrayed.

This is the game that made me fall in love with games on Steam - I played it for the first time when I was in middle school and I started again from 0 when I started working. If I didn't have this game, I would never play Steam games again. Shootout to United Front-SQUARE ENIX-Maybe you released this game too early and when you released this game I was still playing the pirated version-and now I managed to buy this game using the money I got from work. Yes. Emotional.

Definitely, It is more of a forgotten game which is sad because this game is really good, the story in this game was great along with a good fight mechanic. cant beat it unless you try it. Also no one can out shine Kiryu Kazuma and Goro Majima in karaoke sorry Wei Shen.

Great hand-to-hand combat, solid soundtrack, and the gritty Hong Kong vibe is nailed, it’s like stepping into a Hong Kong action flick. The dialogue can get a bit cringe, but it’s part of the charm. Also, cockfighting isn’t banned in this game, which is… definitely a choice. Underrated gem overall.

It's one of, if not the best, GTA-clone of its time. It still plays great today, but you can definitely see some of the gameplay elements being outdated. Radio is still there, same on release, and there are all the DLCs to enjoy after you've polished the main story map.

I never expected any game to be on fun levels as my child me playing GTA Vice City or San Andreas. When I did download this game, believe me I thought this would be on similar lines of Sifu(as in this felt like Sifu before Sifu was a thing). But holy molly, what a game. Gameplay: Awesome Story: One of the best ones I have ever came across (and I am an avid Visual Novel player) Graphics: Damn shawty Difficulty: Asian Overall: You stupid if you haven't played this, even once In short, loved this. And I am still sad that we didn't get the sequel.

Played this a few times, have it for my old laptop that can't run new games. For such low-requirements it's a great little game. Almost like an Asian GTA, but a little less free. Again, for its time, it was a great little game. Still fun today and works perfectly fine on a new setup.

i remember a cousin of mine that introduced me to this game,at the time he too had a brand new lenovo laptop that was pretty decent for gaming but coming back to SLEEPING DOGS, in my opinion is a really great game. i love this game like how people love each other, with my whole heart everything from the story to the great characters to the world building im a really big fan of games involving a lot things like gangsters and mercenaries etc and this game does it perfectly i like how the combat system is not much of guns but also a lot of fist fights and marital arts involved in it and the most hilarous part where the guys are screaming in chinese when you combo one of them the gun combat is as good as the hand to hand one but i prefer hand to hand more one other thing i like a lot about this is the usage of enviroinmental objects to k.o people other than that i think it has really great story and i think sleeping dogs will be a game that i will come back to atleast once in a while it is the whole package of fun, humor, action and violence with a serious story and interesting characters.

A really fun game. Excellent story and characters. Fun (albeit basic) martial arts mechanic, which you don't see in a most open world games. Probably the only downside, and its a very small downside, is that the number of collectibles is a bit tedious. But you'll find most of them naturally and enough of them to get by. It's really just that there are so many. DLC is a little cheesy and comedic compared to the main storyline, which is a bit more serious. But they're still a ton of fun.

I completed this game back in March, and I've been meaning to share my thoughts ever since. Let me tell you, this game is nothing short of exceptional. Set against the stunning backdrop of Hong Kong, the scenery, expansive map, and overall ambience are breathtaking. I often found myself exploring the city while enjoying the soundtrack. Hong Kong truly shines at night, with vibrant neon lights illuminating the streets, crowds bustling about, and the rain adding a layer of beauty that's hard to forget. Performance-wise, the game runs flawlessly on PC. Even with my mid-range setup, I was able to max out the graphics settings, which speaks volumes about how well-optimised the PC port is, ensuring a smooth and immersive experience for players on various rigs without sacrificing quality. The story grips you from the start. While there are instances where the plot may feel a bit predictable, and some characters echo familiar archetypes, the overall narrative is thoroughly enjoyable. The game is action-packed yet grounded, beautifully balancing intense missions with engaging side activities. Wei Shen, the main character, is masterfully crafted, and his struggle to navigate two conflicting worlds adds depth that resonates throughout the game. The game play itself is irresistibly addictive, particularly the combat mechanics. Initially, there's a bit of a learning curve on PC, but once you find your rhythm, the combat becomes a thrilling dance of skill and strategy. The focus on hand-to-hand combat instead of gun-play makes the game play feel more immersive and engaging. Traversing the city is an absolute joy; whether you're in a car, on a bike, or cruising in a boat, each method of transportation offers its thrill. While it doesn't aim for strict realism in vehicle handling, the arcade-like feel provides an easily accessible and thoroughly enjoyable experience that keeps you engaged from start to finish. In short, this game is a triumph, and I highly recommend it. Whether you're drawn to the visuals, the story, or the game play, it's a journey worth taking.

Looks very good on Steam Deck & runs well @ 60fps. Great old game to have on it, did have the reputation as a ''GTA clone'' but its much more than just another GTA knock off. It's an actual decent game with some quality gameplay & soul as a game. Goes on discount often for like $4 or $5 . Driving vehicles in this game is super fluid on the Steam Deck, definetly the best experience just driving around I have had on the Deck (even though its not a racing game)

Such a great game. Finished the Main Story + 2 DLCs (Nightmare, Year of the Snake). Loved everything about the game (environment, missions, gunplay, combat). If I had to nitpick something, it is lack of depth in some cases (i.e) felt rushed at the end of the story. It took 18 hours to finish Main Story + some side missions (trust me, I haven't completed even half of them) and 5 hours for the DLCs (2 for Nightmare, 3 for Year of the Snake) with all side missions done (except collectibles). TLDR, I recommend all types of players to try this game for once.

This game is absolutely addicting. It is one of the best open world games ever. The map is so small compared to other open world games but the game makes everything feel so big! And for $20, this game is a steal. I'd say it's on par with gta v. This is in my top 5 games of all time. It is really underrated. It should be as popular as gta v. If you buy this game you will get your money's worth. The only bad things I have to say about this game is that the driving can be a bit wonky, and so can the fighting, but that's it.

Sleeping Dogs is a game that went under the radar despite bringing an amazing experience. From the parkour chases to the deep hand-to-hand combat system alongside a strong narrative story, this game gets you immersed in the colorful streets of Hong Kong as an undercover cop, and it feels good to be able to play as a good guy for once in this type of games. Only letdown of the game is the driving, while having some sturdy engine roars, you don't have the same immersive feeling as in the bigger competitor. Everything is well written and made, while the combat brings something different without using any guns. You experience something else in this one, and it is for the better.

Sleeping Dogs: An Open-World Masterpiece That Blends Grit, Grace, and Unforgettable Action Sleeping Dogs remains one of the most exhilarating open-world action-adventure experiences ever crafted. Set in the vibrant and tumultuous underbelly of Hong Kong, the game immerses you into a world where ancient traditions collide with modern urban chaos, powered by deep storytelling and exhilarating gameplay. A Living, Breathing Hong Kong From the neon-soaked streets to the bustling back alleys of Hong Kong, Sleeping Dogs presents an environment that feels real, gritty, and alive. The game’s depiction of the city is more than just stunning graphics—it's a dynamic playground that reflects the living culture and energy of its setting. Each district unfolds new secrets, side missions, and unexpected encounters that ensure the city feels expansive yet intimately personal. This immersive backdrop is the perfect stage for the narrative that unfolds, cementing the game as a love letter to a city that never sleeps. A Story of Loyalty, Betrayal, and Redemption At its core, Sleeping Dogs is a narrative-driven experience that explores the murky world of undercover identities and the complex codes of honor in criminal societies. You step into the shoes of Wei Shen, an undercover cop tasked with infiltrating Hong Kong's notorious triads. The game deftly weaves themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and moral ambiguity, making every decision feel weighty and personal. The storyline never shy away from its gritty realism, yet it manages to sprinkle moments of dark humor and poignancy that round out an unforgettable character journey. Heart-Pounding Combat and Fluid Gameplay Combat in Sleeping Dogs is a standout element that sets it apart from other open-world titles. The martial arts-based brawling system is fluid, dynamic, and immensely satisfying, offering a level of visceral, up-close action that few games can match. Whether tackling one-on-many street brawls or engaging in high-speed chases through crowded streets, the gameplay rewards precision and timing. The seamless integration of hand-to-hand combat, gunplay, and stealth sections ensures that players are constantly engaged, with each encounter providing a fresh take on the classic action formula. Depth Beyond the Surface Beyond its visual flair and action-packed sequences, Sleeping Dogs shines in its attention to detail and character development. Side missions and mini-games—from intense driving challenges to high-octane chase sequences—add layers to the gameplay, ensuring that every moment feels purposeful. The game’s narrative, enriched by well-written dialogue and memorable characters, invites you to explore the duality of Wei Shen’s life. Balancing his duty as an undercover cop with the personal cost of living a lie is a central conflict that resonates long after the credits roll. Conclusion Sleeping Dogs is more than just an action game—it’s an immersive exploration of identity, honor, and survival in a beautifully chaotic landscape. Its compelling narrative, engaging combat systems, and meticulously crafted environments create a richly detailed world where every corner hides a story waiting to be told. Whether you’re a fan of intense martial arts brawls or intricate police dramas, Sleeping Dogs offers a thrilling journey that leaves you questioning the fine line between right and wrong. As you reflect on the evolution of open-world adventures, consider how themes of duality and honor can enrich the narrative of modern gaming. What other stories do you think deserve to be told in such an immersive, living world?

A great game overall, it's a gta-like game, pretty solid graphics (better than gta 4, worse than gta 5), story is pretty good and its a nice change to play as an undercover cop with cop missions and etc, gameplay was pretty solid, game had absolutely no bugs at all for me, missions were not frustrating like in some gta games (cough, cough, sa toy plane, cough) i liked the game a lot overall, i don't know about the price since i paid like 2 dollars for it lol, it felt like i was robbing the devs with such a good game, recommended if ur like me and likes gta-like games, its probably the best out there together with watch dogs (didnt play any others actually) 7.75/10 OBS: Just did the DLCS, they are great, except for the nightmare one (in my opinion, its too repetitive and not a good story at all, nothing to do at the map too)

This game is a classic gem. It is like a GTA but based in Hong Kong. It is an older game so if you like these types of games you have probably already played it. If so, then it is fun to play again, I have played in several times throughout the years. Super fun fighting dynamics, really solid story, and the graphics aren't bad at all for it's age. Definitely play it if you haven't and you like those types of games.

"An Underrated Gem That Deserves Your Time (Especially on Sale)" I just finished Sleeping Dogs after dragging my feet for years, and wow—I forgot how much fun a video game could be when it focuses on gameplay and story over just looking pretty. This 2012 title (originally True Crime: Hong Kong before Activision dropped it) is a breath of fresh air even today. What I Loved: ✔ Hong Kong Comes Alive – The city isn’t just a backdrop; it’s a character. Night markets, neon streets, and random street fights make it feel raw and real. (Though yeah, everyone speaking perfect English is weird—where’s the Cantonese immersion?) ✔ Melee Combat = Chef’s Kiss – Guns exist, but why use them when you can throw guys into fish tanks, break bones in slow-mo, and dropkick enemies off rooftops? It’s like John Wick meets Enter the Dragon. ✔ Story with Actual Stakes – Wei Shen’s undercover cop drama hits hard. The writing is sharp, the betrayals hurt, and the side characters are memorable (shoutout to the pork bun guy). ✔ Janky but Fun Driving – Cars handle like shopping carts on ice, but it’s so ridiculous that escaping cops becomes a comedy show. Why It Flies Under the Radar: This game was doomed from the start—Activision canned it mid-development, Square Enix rebranded it, and it got zero marketing. Yet somehow, it’s better than most open-world games today. No bloat, no pointless RPG mechanics, just pure fun. Should You Buy It? YES, especially on sale. If you miss games that prioritize fun over filler, this is a must-play. Just don’t expect GTA—it’s its own beast, and that’s why it’s special. Final Rating: 9/10 – "A man who never plays Sleeping Dogs is never a whole gamer."
