This games is very 20 years old but it feels like it came yesterday. I love this game and I love Star Wars

Although I already considered BF2 one of the best Star Wars games, I was always slightly disappointed by it, having played Renegade Squadron first - which, despite obviously being an inferior game as a PSP exclusive, actually made some very worthy additions to the formula in the form of Expanded Universe planets, more ships (including space heroes), a customisable loadout system that I really loved, and a far superior version of Galactic Conquest, my favourite mode. And that's not even taking into account the content from BF1 that didn't make it into the second game. The lack of all these things prevented me from truly recognising BF2 as the ultimate Battlefront game until now. But, having finally given a fair chance to EA's take on the franchise... yeah, this is the Battlefront game. If you haven't played any of them, don't bother with DICE's misguided, confused interpretation of the formula or Aspyr's worthless ports. Despite 20 years having passed since this game's release, somehow, everyone who's touched the franchise since has only made it worse. BF2 might be a little simplistic in its gameplay, maybe a little too focused on marketing for Episode 3... but it just doesn't get better than this. It absolutely could, but so far it has not.

A worthy sequel to the original Battlefront. The highlight for me is definitely the story told from the perspective of a Clone division, who then become Stormtroopers. A unique perspective, and very well narrated. The missions, having more of a plot than in BF1, were somewhat more interesting, but at the cost of intensity of the battles.

Star Wars Battlefront II (2005) is a timeless classic that captures the scale, spectacle, and spirit of the Star Wars universe like few games ever have. Nearly two decades later, it still holds a special place in the hearts of fans—and for good reason. The game expands on its predecessor in every meaningful way: more maps, more modes, space battles, and, of course, a full single-player campaign that follows the 501st Legion through the Clone Wars and beyond. From the dusty plains of Geonosis to the snowy trenches of Hoth, every battle feels like you're living out a scene from the films. One of the standout features is Galactic Conquest, a strategy-lite mode where you fight for control of the galaxy in turn-based space domination. It's endlessly replayable and adds an extra layer of immersion and decision-making. Multiplayer and Instant Action are just as enjoyable, whether you're capturing command posts or flying starfighters in massive space dogfights. The class system, hero mechanics, and vehicle controls all strike a great balance between arcade fun and tactical depth. While the graphics may be dated by modern standards, the art direction and sound design still shine, largely thanks to iconic music and voiceovers that transport you straight into the Star Wars universe. That said, the AI can feel a bit simplistic, and without mods or patches, the original version might have technical hiccups on modern systems. But with a bit of tweaking—or better yet, fan mods—the game becomes a near-perfect Star Wars sandbox. Gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRcRN7UlHII&list=PLKuVMkePc-_OTMX7sLKJquls6PFaTNpvJ

Star Wars: Battlefront II (2005) is one of the most fun and memorable games ever made. Even though it’s almost twenty years old, it still holds up and is more enjoyable than a lot of newer games. What makes it so good is how well it captures the feeling of being in the Star Wars universe. Whether you're a clone trooper fighting droids or a stormtrooper defending the Death Star, the game makes you feel like you're really part of the action. One of the best things about it is how much content it has. There are tons of maps from all the different Star Wars movies. You can fight on planets like Hoth, Naboo, Geonosis, Kamino, and even inside the Death Star or on a Star Destroyer. The battles are huge, with tons of AI running around, vehicles, and even starships flying overhead. You can drive tanks, pilot starfighters, and use all kinds of weapons from the Star Wars movies. It never gets boring because there’s always something different going on. The classes are also fun and make the gameplay feel more strategic. Each team has regular soldiers, snipers, heavy troopers, engineers, and sometimes special units like jetpack troopers or wookiees. As you earn points during a battle, you unlock better units or even hero characters. Playing as a Jedi or Sith feels like a reward. It gives you an edge, but you still have to be smart about how you use your powers, because you can still be taken down if you’re careless. The balance makes the game more exciting. The single-player campaign adds even more value. Instead of just copying the movies, it tells a story from the perspective of the 501st Legion, a group of clone troopers who eventually serve Darth Vader. You follow them through battles during the Clone Wars and into the rise of the Empire. It gives more personality to the characters you play as and connects the missions to the bigger Star Wars story. It’s more engaging than just a regular tutorial or random levels. Another major reason the game is still so loved is that it’s easy to pick up and play. The controls are simple, but the game has depth. You can play casually and just enjoy the chaos, or you can play smart, using tactics, class combos, and vehicles to control the battlefield. It also has a Galactic Conquest mode, where you control planets on a map and fight to expand your control of the galaxy. You get to choose your battles and earn bonuses as you win. It adds a cool strategy layer to the game. Battlefront II is also known for being a great game to play with friends. On console, you could play split-screen and take on missions together or compete head-to-head. There was no online pass, no microtransactions, and no pay-to-win mechanics. Everything was already in the game, and all of it was fun. Even today, people still play the original Battlefront II with mods and online servers. The fact that it’s still active so many years later says a lot about its quality. The visuals might not be modern, but the design still looks good. The music is straight from the movies and adds to the atmosphere. The sound effects, the announcer voices, and the little details like clone chatter or Darth Vader’s breathing make it feel authentic. You can tell the developers actually cared about making it feel like Star Wars, not just using the name to sell a game. In the end, Star Wars: Battlefront II became a classic because it was packed with content, easy to enjoy, and incredibly fun whether you were playing solo or with friends. It didn’t rely on fancy graphics or internet connections. It just delivered a complete Star Wars experience that people still go back to. That’s what makes it more than just a good game. It’s a timeless one.

I've loved this game since I first played it 20 years ago. Can't express how well they nailed this. Perfect Star Wars game rivaled only by Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast.

This is great and very different from the 2017 remaster, I love the space and jedi/sith in this game but playing a a grunt feels a bit clunky so if thats what you are looking for I recommend the remaster (or just get both)

This game is great. I played it for over 3.5 years and actually had about 1.700 hours on it in total over that time. I played in the multiplayer servers for about 1,650 of those hours and it was a great but small community until I became staff on BFO (Battlefront Outpost). This is where the competitive people in the community didn't like me because I can be outspoken and I play the objective instead of grinding kills like a skrubadubdub. So they basically bullied me out of the game using political excuses to discriminate whilst appearing professional. I was not the only victim of discrimination from these people either. For example, a woman in the community was talked about in disgusting sexist ways by staff in their private channels when she rejected one staff member romantically. I had to advocate for her alongside a senior staff member to avoid her being given a wildly disproportionate ban for a mediocre lack of social etiquitte, only for this same senior staff member to message me privately after we had cleared the disproportionate ban and talk shit about her! Nevertheless, our per pro appeal was successful until the Lord Of The Battlefront himself overturned it on his own whim a week or two later. DARK TROOPER IMBALANCE: In terms of balance, the dark trooper class is inherently overpowered due to the arc caster's shock. But the issue is exasperated by an allowed exploit whereby the arc caster cooldown can be reset through jumping, flying or rolling. This is exploited in something called the triple shock (triple on wookies which are supposedly the dark trooper counter) where players will use flying in particular. Specifically, they will shoot, fly up, shoot again, land almost instantly and then shoot again, being especially overpowered in their combo when the ceiling is MEDIUM height. This is often done in front of the wookie, a feat made possible due to the following. The arc caster disables crosshair movement of the wookie player to the point that if the crosshair was not pre-aimed and the sensitivity not high for an FPS game, the wookie cannot kill the dark trooper even whilst the dark trooper is in front of it. Thus, dark trooper players will usually fly in front of the wookie due to the unlikelihood of this pre aim being there except in the most seasoned players. The accepted meta of the game is that this chance for the wookie to counter is enough to balance competitive play but this is incorrect. The dark trooper simply needs to get behind the wookie and then the wookie is dead unless the dark trooper can be caught by another player. I proved this in one of my first two scrim matches when I did a long flank on coruscant with the dark trooper class as the enemy team was all at our flag with wookies (a 4v4) and almost singlehandedly wiped the wookie team purely from being behind them. Nor did I use the triple shock glitch because it actually would have made the wipe harder. Instead, I simply rolled, pistol fired and jumped (without flying) to secure the wipe of an entire team of wookies with 20+ years of competitive experience between them. It is clear from this scenario that I broke the meta of assuming dark troopers to be in front, or else my flank would have failed from one wookie hanging back to create a deeper attack... As far as predicting where the dark trooper will be, the current meta is that dark troopers fly in a predictable high arc pattern, making them easily pre-aimed and even shot with grenade launchers mid air in the competitive scene. But by flying against walls and obstacles in a certain legitimate way, you can advantage yourself to get behind the wookie due to unpredictable movement insofar as the accepted meta, once again eliminating them without the possibility of being attacked back. This is especially potent if you have a mouse that can switch between sensitivity settings and put it on extremely high sensitivty when flying against the wall, so as to turn around. This requires good mechanical skill for the purpose of positioning yourself behind the wookie (to be unkillable) rather than for the purpose of attacking the wookie from the wrong which is still a little risky. ENGINEER: Another accepted meta is the throwing of detpacks/claymores with the engineer class to confine enemies into space so that they can be killed. You do this by holding onto the throw button and then then when you release the button the detpack will throw in the direction you are looking and moving. You can exploit this in some situations simply by tucking a detpack where you know a competitive player will go, almost always on their left side since they will move that way for TPS (third person shooter) aim advantage. This works even in open areas just as long as there is an obstacle large enough to hide a detpack from them. Many won't even realize what you did so expect messages in the chat like "WTF" and "what happened" when you use detpacks for their intended purpose...This one is particuarly funny when said by experienced competitive players who lack tactical awareness such as that one abusive staff member who was mad that I didn't make him first pick for my tournament team. SNIPER: Pistol switching is common for sniper class due to the lack of crosshair on the sniper weapon. Quickscoping is impossible due to the forced double scope and scoping in competitive - even situationally - will get complaints from your team because none of them actually know how to snipe at long range - the public lobby goes empty for sniper maps like Geonosis since it drops their kill skrub ratio - I mean kill death ratio. Sorry. The pistol switch trick is entirely necessary for competitive play but should only be used situationally - mostly in medium-long range and on maps like Mos Eisley which is a gunskill skrub's paradise compared to one like Coruscant which has flanking routes. At short range, simply pre-aiming intuitively will get you an advantage over pistol switch dependents whilst point blank sniper strafe duels can be won by simply standing still at the appropriate time (rather than shooting and strafing wildly like a skrubadubdub). Now you know which community to avoid and how to break the meta and you're welcome.

The one thing that 2005 BF2 has over Disney's version of Order 66 is that its somber and tragic but it lacks the sense of betrayal this game and legends had portrayed it as pre-bio chip retcon.

A classic must-have. Still has more content than anything they have come out with up to today, and it works just fine, it is not a buggy mess. May need to work out a few kinks depending on your system, but my wife and I did not need to even on 2 different laptops. I will also say when you get in the main menu, the problem is not your resolution or some bug that is happening, or that the game is not listening... The resolution you set in the video settings will be fixed for in-game, not for the main menu. So don't worry. Set the resolution you want in the settings then get in-game and you will see the change. So, go for it now or get it on sale when it goes on sale randomly or during season sales.

it's the 20th Anniversary of the game this year so I decided to replay it on Steam instead of my old Retail copy, fucking great game, Galactic Conquest is the greatest game mode of all-time, since playing this I gotten back into Lego Star Wars and I'm building my own clone army this time, and I want to re-watch the movies and The Clone Wars, and finally watch the newer series, and I wanna replay my other favourite Star Wars game, without this game, I wouldn't be the Star Wars fan I am

"What I remember about the rise of the Empire is... is how quiet it was. During the waning hours of the Clone Wars, the 501st Legion was discreetly transferred back to Coruscant. It was a silent trip. We all knew what was about to happen, what we were about to do." This quote alone should set the tone for the Star Wars Battlefront 2 campaign. The campaign in this game was fantastic. Story was great, and I had a lot of fun playing it. It was a great addition to the star wars franchise.

This is a review from my gf who played the game from our Steam Family: The AI sucks a lot, specially in the campaign. Also the story mode is incredibly unfair at times. Do I recommend it? Yes! The lore given in the campaign is pretty cool and the battles are great if you let your brain shut off for a few minutes. The gameplay mechanics are pretty modern for a 2005 game and I definitely enjoyed it as an shooter. I would recommend trying mods, I heard you can make the AI better and have more troops. 7/10
