It's Abandonware. They announced Official PVE and PVP servers were offline and are "investigating". That was 9 months ago. Total silence since then.
Don't take the bait - game is dead and devs don't want to admit it.

Well I caved and bought a PC to get back to my favorite game. i have spent a couple thousand hours on this game on Xbox. i was upset they stopped supporting this amazing project. on the PC its a lot better graphics and i don't understand why support for this game has stopped. wish the developer would cut the game files loose and let the players finish it.

This game was once great. I have a lot of fond memories from when the game first released. Met the first of my old crew members in the first 2 days of launch running around a starter island. I was handing out fish because people did not know how to get the blue vitamin. Ran into someone asking for someone to craft him storage because he forgot to grab that and hit the max starting area level. His smithy got robbed. We decided to play together and eventually formed a group with other dedicated players. We were The Prophecy Trading Co. I do miss what this game was in its first and second seasons where you had the most freedom to do as you pleased. We fought many battles and even brought down a powerful force with our 15 man group. I always kept my word to both friend and Foe as in games like this that is all you have. Sadly i cannot recommend this game for what it has become.
Knowing then what i know now about how the game turned out I would not change a thing and i would still play for the 2.5K+ hours i gave this game. I do miss playing with the guys, we went from here to Last Oasis which sadly had a similar fate.
Ghost, Aquaman, Snek and Bob. You guys trusted me enough to play several seasons with me leading the company, and even trusted me to do the same in Last Oasis, i had a blast playing with you guys.

I love this game and even though the Devs gave up on it I am glad that the community and coders are still able to run modded servers so we can play because I will play this game as long as there is a way.

FYI GAME IS ESSENTIALLY UNPLAYABLE ABANDONWARE
*with the small exception of a few custom servers
Love/Hate relationship with this game.
Love: almost every aspect of gameplay, from fighting to building to sailing, etc.
Hate: so buggy sometimes it's unplayable, nearly every update broke the game even more, nearly non-existent multiplayer and an unplayable singleplayer
the game had so much potential
this would be a glowing review if this game wasn't an early access cashgrab abandonware disappointment.

All i got to say is shame on you snail games!! Truly pathetic how you handled this game ...., And after everything you just essentially left its body to rot in the sun give your heads a shake cuz you should really be ashamed of yourselves.

its a shame just tried to play this again after so long and its just unplayable now it crashes a lot and you carn't even do what you want with mods as 90% of them are now discontinued wish someone would just take it over clearly the devs don't care.
Abandoned and unfinished.
Everything you see in the game is directly from their other game, ARK, and they abondoned this game after some time. It's still a cool survival game to spend some hours, specialy if you have some friends to play with, but be aware that this is ABANDONED.
You will see some cool ideas and will have this feeling the whole time: "Hmm, this could be better..." and will never be better because the company doesn't care.
I got it on a 80% sale because I really wanted to see on my own. But my sugestion is that you NEVER buy anything from this company/developers, they don't care about their playerbase.
Watchout for ARK 2.... probably another big messy and buggy with an unfinished feeling incoming.

Atlas is a massive open-world pirate survival game that nails the sense of scale, adventure, and discovery. Building ships, claiming islands, and taming exotic creatures like lions and ravens gives you that true high-seas fantasy. It’s not perfect — bugs and balance issues still pop up — but the community and sandbox freedom make it incredibly addicting. If you’ve got a crew and love exploration, it’s one of the most ambitious survival games out there.

21 hours of my life wasted for nothing!
The game crashes constantly! Crash after crash after crash — and guess what? More crashes!
You know what the best part is? When it crashes and you log back in, the ship you had sunk is back, and you have to fight the whole battle from the beginning again!
No one should make the mistake of playing this abomination. It had great potential, but unfortunately, the execution is terrible!
STAY AWAY!

Abandoned and unfinished.
Snail games is a scam publisher. Don't support any of their games. This game is abandoned, and probably wont ever be finished. They messed up Ark, and I am pretty sure Ark 2 will never happen. Atlas has amazing potential, but I cant recommend it since there are basically no servers.

ATLAS: A Pirate Adventure Where the Real Treasure Is Getting Past the Login Screen
Reviewed by: Vooch - June 2025
Hoist the sails, swab the deck, and brace yourself for disappointment, because ATLAS, the pirate-themed MMO from the folks who brought you ARK: Survival Evolved, is less a swashbuckling epic and more a masterclass in testing your patience. Released in Early Access in 2018, this game promised a vast open world of high-seas adventure, shipbuilding, and mythical creature battles. What it delivered, however, was a buggy, abandoned mess that’s harder to log into than a bank vault guarded by a kraken with trust issues. Let’s dive into this shipwreck of a game with the enthusiasm of a pirate who’s just spotted a free rum buffet only to find out it’s non-alcoholic.
The Login Saga: A Boss Fight Harder Than Any Sea Monster
Let’s start with the elephant in the room or rather, the disconnected server in the ocean. Logging into ATLAS is like trying to convince a peg-legged parrot to do your taxes. Back in its heyday (if you can call a few chaotic months in 2019 a "heyday"), the servers were so overwhelmed that players faced delays longer than a pirate’s tale after a few pints. Now, in 2025, with official servers shut down and no developer updates since May 2023, logging in feels like sending a message in a bottle and hoping it reaches a functional server. Spoiler: it doesn’t. You’ll stare at error messages like "Connection Timeout" or "Server Not Responding" with the same sinking feeling as a sailor watching their ship get swallowed by a whirlpool. One Steam reviewer summed it up perfectly: "I can’t login to my character on NA/PVP, and I can’t respawn on my raft on NA/PVE. So, I literally cannot play until the game gets patched." Mate, that patch ain’t coming.
Gameplay: Punching Trees and Dreaming of Piracy
If, by some miracle, you do manage to log in (perhaps by sacrificing a goat to the server gods), you’re greeted with a game that feels like ARK got a pirate hat and called it a day. The core loop involves punching trees, gathering rocks, and balancing your character’s vitamin levels so you don’t die from eating too many coconuts. Yes, you heard that right too much protein can kill you in ATLAS. It’s less "Pirates of the Caribbean" and more "Survivor: Scurvy Edition." The promised pirate fantasy of epic sea battles and island conquests is buried under a mountain of bugs, lag, and hit detection so bad you’d think the game’s enemies are dodging bullets in the Matrix. One player lamented, "Shoot a skeleton dude’s head? Oh, turns out he’s several inches to the side. Which side? Who the knows."
The game’s massive 45,000 km² map sounds impressive until you realize it’s mostly water, dotted with islands already claimed by mega-tribes or griefers who’d rather sink your raft than say "Arr." Solo players? Good luck. You’ll spend hours building a dinghy only for a 1500-person alliance to steamroll you with a galleon they spent three months grinding for. It’s like showing up to a cannon fight with a slingshot. The community’s toxicity doesn’t help: players have reported doxxing, review-bombing, and cheating clans like "Black Butterfly" running rampant on official servers.
Shipbuilding: The Dream That Sank
The one shining beacon in this stormy sea is the shipbuilding. ATLAS lets you craft everything from tiny rafts to massive galleons, and when it works, it’s a blast. Customizing your ship feels like playing with pirate-themed Legos until you sail into a lag spike and your masterpiece clips through an island. The logistics of managing a crew, scouting, and waging war were once thrilling, with some players raving about "massive fleet battles" and "memories that lasted for years." But that was back in 2019, when the devs still pretended to care. Now, with updates as rare as a sober pirate, even this feature feels like a ghost ship drifting aimlessly.
The Devs Jumped Ship
Speaking of the devs, Studio Wildcard’s handling of ATLAS is the real comedy gold. They hyped it as a 40,000-player MMO, but servers buckled under 150 players. After a launch plagued by delays, lag, and bugs, they issued an apology in 2018, promising "daily deployments" to fix things. Fast forward to 2025, and the game’s been abandoned faster than a mutineer on a desert island. No updates since May 2023, no roadmap, no nothing. One heartbroken player with 2000 hours wrote, "The devs walked away without a word" I gave all my stuff to one of my few remaining company members and uninstalled last week. Meanwhile, ARK got new expansions, leaving ATLAS players to drown in their tears.
The Verdict: A Sunk Cost
ATLAS could’ve been a treasure trove of pirate fun, but it’s a derelict wreck. The login issues make it nearly unplayable, the bugs are relentless, and the devs have long since sailed off into the sunset. If you’re desperate for a pirate fix, private servers might offer a flicker of hope, but even those are buggy and sparsely populated. For the price of a bottle of rum (or $8.24 on a Steam sale), you might be tempted to try it. Don’t. You’re better off playing Sea of Thieves or watching Pirates of the Caribbean for the 50th time.
Score: 2/10 - One point for the shipbuilding, another for the laughs you’ll get from trying to log in. Save your gold for a game that actually works.
Disclaimer: No parrots were harmed in the writing of this review, but my sanity took a cannonball to the hull.

THIS GAME USES ARK SURVIVAL EVOLVED GAME ENGINE AND ASSETS AS A FOUNDATION
Therefore, you can expect the following;
More bugs than your neighbours backyard
Abandoned by the developers
Abandoned by the modding community (despite the false claims of activity)
Example - You die (even less than 100 meters from the respawn point on your starter island) resulting in any and all tamed creatures disappearing, including all the resources inside them.
The game is as optimised as you would expect with it being based on Ark Survival Evolved, known as THE worst performing game in history (the new Crysis) and the people running the show have left the stage without closing the curtains.
Even with a 13900k and a 3080 12GB with 96GB of RAM running on a 990 Pro NVME, you will have to lower almost all settings to "Low" just to get over 100 fps at your native (4K) resolution. The game already looked bad when running 50 fps on Epic settings, especially the rain, the terrain and the aliasing (shimmering edges) all the while stuttering harder than the average gamer guy when faced with a real girl.
Save yourself the hassle and buy a few overpriced Freddo instead, this game is NOT the game you are looking for, even with the summer sale discount. I'd rather put that £8 into my gas tank and enjoy a day of riding.

"Great Concept, Left for Dead"
ATLAS had so much potential—massive open-world pirate survival? Count me in! Unfortunately, like many other games from this company, it launched half-baked, full of bugs, and was quickly abandoned. There hasn’t been a real update or meaningful support since May 2023.
Despite this, they’re still selling it, hoping to lure in new players with dreams of naval glory... only to leave them stranded on a broken ship with no crew. It's like buying a treasure map that leads straight to a landfill.
Amazing idea, poorly executed, and now left to rot. Proceed with caution (and low expectations).

Spend the first nine hours on a non-dedicated server, learning the ropes. We moved to a dedicated server and im sitting around 20 hours and loving the game so far. We found a good server with good people and have a group of friends having a blast! Good mix of pirate theme survival and challenging gameplay. I look forward to many more hours!

Despite the mixed reviews, I decided to give ATLAS a try. I haven't played it extensively, but enough to share some first impressions. The game has some interesting mechanics, several skill trees, and the ability to sail on the same ship with friends, which is a nice touch.
It feels like the game was released prematurely; hardware from a few years ago just wasn't powerful enough to handle a game of this scale. It's unfortunate to see so many negative reviews, largely due to what seems like developer abandonment.
Games like this can only survive if they get enough community support — and maybe, with enough interest, the developers might return to improve it. For now, I'm keeping the game as a show of support.

I want an opt out feature for the review system. I dont want to be pestered for reviews. I want a box that says "i dont want to participate in game reviews, dont ask me to review games"
