SO GOOD! Played this in 2025 and it holds up for sure. Great graphics, gameplay, story, everything.

Progression takes bit of a grind. Dont expect a good story. Worth it for the sale price.
There is a bunch of stuff that could have been better:
- Map shows everything at once, there is no option to filter out specific things. It is possible to zoom out and filter at least a little though.
- Stealth was pointless, using secret entrances didn't give much of an advantage.
- Keys are same for multiple interactions. The key that refuels can also ignite the fuel can.
- The game requires internet to play.
- Short non skippable animations for a lot of common interactions
I know this review sounds negative, but the gameplay was fun. Top review compared it to fast food, which is quite accurate.

I had a lot of fun with this one. Vehicle combat reminded me a bit of Borderlands but was more fleshed out. Driving around the wasteland reminded me of cruising around Mars in Red Faction: Guerilla. And the hand to hand combat felt reminiscent of the Middle Earth and Arkham games.
When you create a formula like that for an open world game, as long as it is executed well it should make for a fun game. And this is a fun game.
My main concern was how the car combat was going to work but it's done well. Things go in slow motion when you are aiming your vehicle's weapons and aim assist helps toggle through the available targets. If ever things get overwhelming where the Magnum Opus (your car) is going to explode, you have 5 seconds to exit the car and you'll be fine. Then you get to give a satisfying beat down to enemies, while Chumbucket hops on the hood and repairs the Magnum Opus.
Though I do want to mention, the only movie I've seen in this series is Mad Max: Fury Road which I did enjoy. However, upon finishing the game, I looked up what people had to say about the story. I guess I get why the story is what it is and why Max is the way he is but... I found Max to be unlikeable and the story to be, well... not for me. So, I do give the caveat, as a gamer who loves a good story, that it wasn't what was enjoyable about this game - to me.
Still, if the gameplay sounds like fun to you, you can get it on the cheap during a sale. The gameplay was a lot of fun but the story wasn't my thing.
Oh yeah, this game also gave me a newfound appreciation for having clean water. It was by far the most appetizing thing your character could use to heal in this game.

I was absolutely loving this game until about 15-20 hours in I got a game breaking glitch that stopped my progression and I don't feel like redoing it. 10 years and they never put out a fix or even addressed it with a guide on how to fix it, there is no fix as far as I can tell.
So annoyed rn.

this is actually kickass, and if you're getting it for three dollars on sale, bet this is an extremely pleasant surprise.
way, way more creative effort and attention to detail went into the Mad Max game than the Suicide Squad / Justice League game. which is a little strange.
get it for three dollars on -95% sale and see if you don't agree this is totally up there with the best movie tie-in games.

I originally had this game on the PS4 but never finished it, so when I saw this on sale I figured I'd attempt to get some type of closure. I was expecting it to feel pretty dated being from 2015, but I found it to hold up really well. Graphics wise it looks great. The car game play is where it really excels though. The driving dynamics, well executed engine audio, and the gradual upgrading of your vehicle is executed perfectly. Smashing straight through another vehicle is fun and hilarious at the same time, especially when it is a car broken down on the side of the road. My biggest complaint about this game is the difficulty. I found it to be too easy in every aspect, and there is no difficulty selection. I was expecting an apocalyptic wasteland to be harsh, but it turns out it is very forgiving. The on foot combat is fun, but simple, and never really felt challenging to me. You can just spam your parry and you will always get through it. I don't recall ever dying in combat. The only deaths I recall having in the game were fall damage, and getting trapped in your vehicle when it is critically damaged. Your vehicle consumes fuel, but there is never any risk of it running out (I never did) as fuel is usually easy to find, and you eventually will upgrade your strongholds to refuel every time you visit them. The vehicle upgrades can be swapped out at pretty much anytime, so if you see enemies approaching, you can just hit pause, equip the best armour, then resume at with no downside. I think it would have been much better if you could not change these unless you are at a stronghold, so you have to think ahead for how you are going to equip your vehicle. Despite the lack of difficulty, I would still highly recommend this game if you are into cars or the Mad Max franchise.

The visual side of this game is great. Controls are not that great (e.g. holding a weapon, want to climb a ladder, instead of climbing i'm dropping weapon. neat.), the repetitive gameplay is boring. I get it it was a way how to make gameplays long enough but seriously? Whole story packs into one hour, two hours, perhaps, with "wasteland" quests. The rest is clearing one site after another one, dozens of them. They might look different, but they feel same.
And last point - bc game servers were turned off, you won't be able to use scrap collecting feature, so this makes the gameplay even more annoying (yes, you can leave the game running overnight, but.. whut?). And all that would need would be a tiny patch.

Playing with a controller? Go to the settings, check out vehicle controls and switch to alternate layout. Congratulations, you now have handbrake. And this isn't even the most braindead design in the game: there's a system that lets the NPCs collect scrap (in-game currency) for you while you're not playing the game. Too bad this system was tied to the online servers that are now shut down, so it doesn't work anymore. You know, a feature in a singleplayer game. Have fun grinding all the scrap manually!
Other than that, it's a nice game. Not amazing, but nice. I find the much beloved car combat a bit dull. The graphics are beautiful and the game runs smoothly on my 2gb vram GPU! Story... exists, I guess? Somewhere in the background. The game is super grindy and repetitive, but that's to be expected from an open world game like this. Not sure if I'll finish the game, but I mean for the 3€ asking price it was worth the ~10 hours of entertainment I got so far.
Ride eternal, shiny and chrome.
Honestly, this is such an insanely underrated game. It's truly a gem, and a bargain with great discounts during Steam sales.
Lore is on point, voice acting is fire, the world building is fantastic, just a great Mad Max experience overall if you're a fan of this type of apocalyptic world.
Really love the unique weather system in this game, the desert storms are immersive and memorable. The vehicle mechanics are solid, good customization, driving feels smooth, combat can get hectic and the upgrades feel impactful.
Few little bugs here and there but nothing to worry about.
Easily recommend it.

Beat anyone Arkham style altho a bit annoying with bosses but that's for what the shotgun is for and having a car you can customize as you see fit it's plenty of fun wandering around and blowing stuff up.
The story on the other hand feels a very lacking, not so much in your face so to speak and when you get carried away finishing Strongholds, upgrading your car and stuff, when you continue the story some characters just popping up out of nowhere in some situations feels disconnected, like there was more to it but it was skipped but not by the player.
Also it's hard to feel anything for Max, more of a blank board, his motives aren't really clear unless we are reminded when we start the game and at end. Other than that things just happen and the game moves on.
For the gameplay it's fun, the desert like vista is very beautiful, but I wish the story was on par with everything else.
Mad Max Review

Gameplay – 7/10
The vehicular combat is where this game shines, it is just so good and keeps you hooked for hours.
However, the hand-to-hand combat is not as good and feels like a worse Arkham Knight, but don’t get me wrong – Mad Max's hand-to-hand combat is still solid.
While you can use other stuff like a gun, I haven’t found it to be a big part of the game, but when you use it, it feels decent.
Story and Mission Design – 6/10 (Story "starts" too late)
While the story is solid, it just starts way too late. The first half of the game just feels like a fetch quest — go there, get that car part, and repeat.
With that said, when the story does start, it's pretty good. The pacing in the beginning is just way too slow.
While the missions can feel like fetch quests, they still have a bit of variety, making it feel fresh for a while, but it ultimately leads to being a bit too repetitive.
Graphics and Atmosphere – 9/10 (Almost Perfect)
The graphics in this game are extremely good for its age, and something that really impressed me was the storm, which looked and felt real.
The atmosphere nails the post-apocalyptic setting — it’s gritty and it really looks like a world that has fallen apart.
Optimization, Bugs, and Controls – 10/10 (Near Perfect)
The controls feel good and polished. During my 23 hours, I did not notice a single bug, which is rare for a game. Optimization felt good — at least on my PC.
Specs: 7800XT, Ryzen 5 7600, 32 GB of RAM, NVMe
Settings used: Maxed in 1440p
Conclusion

Pros
- Optimization
- Little to no bugs
-Solid overall gameplay but stellar vehicular combat
- Nails the atmosphere and graphics are really good
- solid story
- Polished controls
Cons
-Pacing
- A bit repetitive mission design
Final Verdict
While it can get a bit repetitive and the story's pacing is too slow in the beginning, its gameplay, polish, atmosphere, and graphics well justify its €19.99 price tag.

Mad Max is a flawed game to me. On one hand the gameplay of arkham style combat, vehicle combat and car handling is great but the content that you do is mostly repetitive. But the game captures the atmosphere and setting of Mad Max accurately and the story is overall pretty short. The progression of the game also requires you to grind quite a bit as it is locked behind clearing regions, also some of the mechanics in the game no longer work due to WB shutting down the game's servers. I would say that the game is great in terms of gameplay but can use with a better selection of side content.

1000/10, I’ve been really enjoying playin' this shi. At first, I was hesitant to install it like, "Let me just give this game a try." But fr, I was completely blown away by the graphics, the storyline (which I still haven’t finished yet), the gameplay mechanics, and the AI. Like seriously, it feels like a modern AAA game from 2025, but it was actually released way back in 2015 ??? ong this game is seriously underrated and absolutely worth every penny.

This game is old. This game still bangs.
Fuck Crossout, this shit is where it's at. A surprisingly good game adaptation. It hits where it needs to and has some of the usual open world slop and all that entails. It's got the arkham knight combat thing going which is fine but the real show is the vehicular combat.
It's Mad Max, plain and simple it's fun. Looking gadamn amazing and is genuinely rewarding. Gets my poor dopamine receptors up and running everytime. Even the traditional combat is good enough here, I never really felt like I was getting slammed by BS at all.
Customization and upgrades really do give you a sense of coming up once you start crushing guys that used to give you trouble and the physics are actually quite good no matter how you've got your Magnum Opus set up.
I know the story is kinda wack at the end but for me, gameplay comes first and this has that aspect nailed. Pick it up on sale and tear some shit up you won't regret it.

If you haven't played this then you are missing a great game! One of the best car combat game out there and simple to use melee combat. Driving is great even using keyboard for steering.
The game is easily overlooked due to the competition of when it came out but is a blast to play.
Goes on sale multiple times a year for typically less than $5.

Mad Max very much plays like a mid 2000s Video-Gamey-Game with a somewhat passable cinematic story on top of it. The brown-ness of all is almost nostalgic, but the mechanics of the game are fairly unimmersive and uninteresting. It's probably not super fair to judge it in a modern context, but I can only play it in one.
It's just boring.

Quite possibly the most underrated video game ever made. Pure chaos and adrenaline from start to finish.
Excellent "Arkham-style" combat. Superb vehicle chases that put you straight in Fury Road. A fun story to enjoy. Visually gorgeous. Loads of content to keep you busy. Its Just Cause meets Arkham. A must buy and in my top 5 easily.

The game feels like the movies.

Played this in 2025 and it holds up for sure, for a 10 year old game. Graphics are good, paired with a decent story line.
Progression takes bit of a grind some times.
Decent combat both in vehicles and on foot. Not much to do after beating the story missions than to explore the world and check back on some pending missions.
You won't be disappointed.

I really liked this game, world was a beautiful barren waste land, if you are going for just the story line it's short may 20 hours. But no one plays open worlds to just do the story line, lots of side content does need a little boring as it's a lot of the same thing, only disappointment was no real push to get your car to be the best after you get the V8 which is late game. Worth the money 8/10. Give it ago.

I guess back in the old days, you wouldn't mind roaming around the world map to do your quests. But, I find it kinda tedious now. Action in this game is still good and fun to play even though this game was released in 2015. If you got no other games to play, then give this one a try. Who knows... You might even like it. Score: 7/10. Recommendation: Yes, get it when it's heavily discounted if possible.

Very good. There is no manual way to save the game but every time you do something it auto saves to add it to whats been done.
When you die it puts you back at the start point so you have to drive all the way to the location again, but dont worry that you have to do all the tasks again. It saves them as completed.
The game is very well presented and easy to immerse yourself into the story.

While the driving is awkward on keyboard - all I had - it's a pleasant feeling to just drive the wasteland. The devs may have put a few too many mechanics in, but I found it works to some betterment in later stages. The game may not get a sequel, but it left it's mark for better or worse and that's fine by this wastelander.

A Hidden Gem That Deserves More Love
I had heard this game was good ever since it came out. I grabbed it during a Steam sale and it sat in my library for years. I finally decided to give it a shot on the Steam Deck, and wow, it plays so well on the Deck.
The gameplay is a blast, especially the driving. The combat is timing-based and really satisfying. I have heard it compared to Arkham Asylum, though I have not played that myself. What made me stop and write this review is the world-building. The detail, the atmosphere, the voice acting—it's all incredibly well done. You can feel the love that went into making this, and the respect the developers had for the Mad Max universe, at least the modern version.
After about six hours I realized this was a special game. Somehow it flew under the radar for a lot of people, myself included. If you are reading reviews in 2025, know that this game goes far beyond any expectations you might have.
And to the developers, if you ever come across this, I am a huge fan of your work and I hope you are enjoying well-deserved success.

Even though today (july 2025) it's no longer actively supported,
the game is fabulous.
Grim, difficult, engaging, nice graphics, good sound, and overall acceptable story.
It's the grit that does it for me. Raw, brutal carnage, and a believable unforgiving world.

A gritty and underrated open-world game set in a harsh, post-apocalyptic desert. Driving through sandstorms, customizing your car, and battling raiders feels incredibly satisfying. The world feels empty in the best way, fitting the setting perfectly. If you like cars, explosions, and raw survival, this game delivers.

I found this game to be pretty boring in my personal opinion. I felt like there wasn't enough content for the price of the game. The mini bosses that you can defeat for different paint jobs for your vehicle are all just copy paste. I feel like having a couple of bosses with certain gimmicks like one based around explosives or more vehicle based boss would make it feel less empty. It also felt like the story went by way too quickly. I will say that the vehicle combat was pretty good. The game gives you a variety of vehicle weapons you can utilize to take down different structures and enemies. I enjoyed upgrading and killing enemies with each of them. I you still want to try the game I would heavily recommend getting it on sale.

Mad Max is one of those great open world games. released in 2015, it was the golden year for open world games such as Fallout 4, Witcher 3 and Dying Light. too bad new games mostly dont know how to create fun open world except kcd 2.
after watching Furiosa, I installed Mad Max right away. playing Mad Max in 2025, it surprises me that this game is still fun.
Post-apocalyptic action adventure game, partially racing.
yes, it is repetitive to visit every location in the map but it is fun to punch the bad guys in every location. it is WB's game, the combat experience is pretty like you play as Batman.
