1. This game = timed hack and slash + linear level design + OK story + high graphic fidelity. 2. This game takes less than 10 hours to complete (campaign only). 3. A little repetitive but fun combat. 4. Recommend on sales. 5. Rating = 8/10.

A game that, unfortunately, has largely faded into obscurity. For anyone even remotely interested in the Roman Empire, this offers a few hours of top-notch entertainment.

Short, action packed vengeance story in the style of Ancient Rome. Beware, this is a historic mash-up, as developers put it. They have taken all they like about Rome and put it in the game. The game is linear, the gameplay is the same until the end: mix attacks with bashes, occasionally charging both, and evade. Not much variety and the level up system is kind of out of place. I enjoyed the high quality of the graphics and cinematography though. Got really immersed into the Roman battles. That's why I might consider watching "Troy" some time later. A lot of masculinity, brotherhood and all of that. Feel like a man! Like. Pity that there will be no sequel. Also, how did I manage to never hear about this game for 10 years?!

One of the most campaign focused games I've ever played. It was pure pleasure. Cool ideas, awesome graphics, beautiful setting and environments. I'd love more games like that! (Controls can be a bit clumsy, but when they hit, it's pure joy!) Such a beautiful game even by today's standards. I hope for a sequel

This game was short, very short. Practically completed the campaign in one sitting, but all that said I can recommend for its fairly open and shut story. Simple but enjoyable combat controls with some excellent animations for its time, Ryse is worth a look if at least on a discount. It does have a multiplayer/battle mode which kinda extends the life of the game but not but a huge amount. The major flaw of this game if anything is that despite having some good stuff for some people its going to just not be enough of that good to justify getting it. If you don't want a short game, maybe pass on this but otherwise for the short time you spend its a good time.

Ryse: Son of Rome is not the best game I ever played, but I did play it quite a bit, on at least 3 different platforms, and it's a game that I always come back again. It's short and sweet. I promise I played for more than 16 hours, Steam doesn't track offline play. The story is a classic/cliche revenge saga with some noble speeches and family drama thrown in. It’s not Shakespeare, but it gets the job done while you’re hacking and slashing through waves of enemies with satisfying combos. Gameplay-wise, it’s a bit on rails, like a gladiator theme park ride, so don’t expect an open-world sandbox. But the combat is tight and rewarding if you enjoy timing your counters and chaining brutal executions. Plus, the arena battles really feed that gladiator fantasy. It's not perfect, though. Sometimes it feels a little repetitive, and the camera can get a bit dramatic (sometimes too dramatic). But the visuals, sound design, and sheer spectacle more than make up for it. If you want a quick, visceral taste of ancient Rome’s brutality, Ryse delivers.

A very good-looking game driven by a somewhat ok story. Sadly it falls on the short side length-wise, but the gameplay is amazing and is very inspired from the one you have in the arkham games. The combat is brutal, gory, with a lot of sanguinary executions. The co-op gladiator mode is actually fun and can get tough when you're in the latter waves.

So mediocre it's good. Nothing makes any senses in this game, even the game's name, but it's a fun ride. A great choice to relieve your stress. Totally recommend it if you wanna free your mind. if you are tired with your works and want to play a linear game after works that you can finish under 6 hours, this one is the best. it's a cinematic hack and slash which rely heavily on time-based action. It's almost like a rhythm game for violence lovers. It feels like flagship games of the early PS3 era. Those simple enough movements with fluid but easy counter moves. You can also break some vase which gain you nothing meaningful. All the collectibles are negligible. Nothing is historically accurate. The architecture, people, textile, gods, nothing. Don't put too much thought into it. There's no lore here my friend. The intentions of characters are doubtful, especially all the main antagonists, the barbarian girl scene makes me smile. She talks like she has watched all the cutscenes with us though it supposes to be dramatic. Despite all that. I think this game has its own merits. My works are heavy lately, and I want something I can relax on without putting too much afford to learn all the system and read all the delicately crafted lore I don't wanna miss and spend 50-100 hours on it. I missed campaign/stage based like this. Open world games are overrated. This one saves me. I finished it in 2 sittings. The moves are simple enough, but still make you feel like you're doing something. Also, I like the final mission. It's true to its time-based action theme and I find that's a great way to end the game. The combat is definitely repetitive, but who cares? The game ends around the same time you start getting bored. A great pacing I must say. I even finished it faster than suggested on How Long to Beat. Damn boi! It's the first game in my life I finished faster than average on that site. Mostly I spent around 'Main+Extra' *1.5 or 1.8 though I'm not a completionist. I feel like I gain freedom from this super linear game. It's not freedom to make choices and choose your own consequences like in large scale RPGs, but it free me from having to put so much effort into an activity that supposed to relax me. Sure, it's not a great game, but it's totally worth it once in a while. It served its purpose perfectly.

Hadi iyi oyunlar.

Overall: 5 out of 10 Equivalent of a mindless popcorn movie. No depth. Short. No replay value. Story is meh. Not a new game but the graphics hold up pretty well, as you'd expect from Crytek. Combat is one note and repetitive; fun to begin with but a slog by the end. The last part of the game is still glitched on PC.

First played this when it launched back with the Xbox One, feels weird to be reviewing it sooo many years later, it's honestly such a fantastic game and there isnt a great deal of other titles which let you hack and slash your way through enemies as a roman centurion. The game performs well for the most part but now and again it can have frame drops even on a powerful rig, mostly due to age and limitations of that era. The combat is fluid and quite cinematically addictive.. it can become slightly repetitive at times but don't let that put you off as there are enough different execution variants happening to make it still feel fresh and fun Story-wise I genuinely wish it was longer as it is quite short and linear with just a few scattered collectables throughout each level to dig around for, the multiplayer is decent too.. I didn't try to find any matches with other players however I did enjoy playing it solo against waves of enemies in the arena, again it can get repetitive but if your looking for some mindless sword swinging roman fun look no further. Well worth grabbing in the sale!

I played this game and beaten the game on PC. This game is quite old as this was a release for the Xbox One and it's not really all that bad. Couple of gripes such as the super short campaign and the fact the game is a hack and slash with quick time events. This game features an excellent skill tree but by the end of the game it makes the whole game feel too easy. Here are some good things about this game: 1. It is a hack and slash game with a heavy learning curve when it comes to mechanics. You have to time your blocking and you have a short window to do quick time event kills which when done right handout massive amounts of points including your experience points and you are judged on how accurate you are with timing your strikes. Best rank to go for is Centurion. 2. The story is really rich and this is coming from the guys at Crytek. Expect some twists and turns weaved throughout the story. 3. This games looks hands down very beautiful even for a game that is over a decade old. Just like other games that Crytek has made this game still holds up graphically with great lighting and strong attention for detail which is something that is not scene in many third person games. Here are some cons: 1. The learning curve to this game isn't much of the hand to hand but the situational combat. Things like spears can be pain to work with. Also Sony Dualshock and Dualsense users will have a wonderful time trying to remember the button layout for Xbox since this was never released for the Playstation 4. 2. Some of the guys you battle all look the same. Barbarians will look similar in some spots. Also mistiming your flurry of strikes can cost you in the form of enemies mobbing over you this occurs in spots like when you get that quicktime event kill.

Very short can be finished under 4hrs, but all that time I am at awe at how this game is WAY ahead of its time, in-game character model have accurate lip sync and facial expressions that meet the VA and the situation they are in, graphically this game beats any new modern AAA out there the game looks like it released to 2018, and finally this game has that Arkham Batman combat, its simple, fun, and can be repetitive but still just pure fun. I have not tried multiplayer yet nor even look up if the server or people are still active on this game, but the main campaign is just joy

I don't know what arsehole made this game. I have a top of the line computer, but this shit runs like a kaleidoscope on it. You can't do shit, 10 fps max. Tried all possible ways of solving problems - nothing. Paid money, wasted a lot of time to find and solve the problem, but I'm done. That's it.

The campaign is short but entertaining enough to play through a time or two on on the harder difficulty settings. The gladiator mode is fun with various different missions and lots of equipment to unlock. Unfortunately you're limited to the weapons and gear of the secutor and murmillo, but its still fun. This game mode is not dead yet, but you'll have to visit the discussion section to find the list of who is still playing.

The game is alright. Quite fun albeit not very deep gameplay and an okay story that's good enough for a 5 hour game. Which leads me to the very, very short game time. I booted the game up today and thought it would keep me busy through the weekend - instead barely 5.5 hours in I'm already done. There's probably an hour or two of Co-Op fun on top of that but, as mentioned again, the combat is not very deep and won't be fun for too long. It's fine for a 5 hour campaign but will only last you so long in co-op after that. For 3.49€ during a sale I assume the value was fine. Would not recommend the game for the full price tho.

10/10 It is incredible how good this game is, not only how good it looks considering it was released in 2014. It just plays well. Story is catching, main character charismatic and even considering I still do not know how I feel about combat, because I never played anything so heavily based on executions it was really nice experience. Also showing a lot of things games are missing nowadays, there is no yellow paint, collectibles are meaningful - deepening story, not just number one of 400. Executions might be a little too forgiving for my taste (when you fail first hit you should fail the execution) but they are reacting with environment. Basically, only negative thing I can say about it is that coop is well made not just modern game filler. Requiring two players really work together making it impossible to get full achievements without another active player, can’t just get someone to afk it. There is matchmaking, but very few players online.

I mean its cool, fight a bunch of barbarians and eventually Romans. If you're looking for historical accuracy this isn't the game. It's more of a game where you just go around killing every enemy you can see. The jiggle physics are a BIG thing in the game (you'll see what I mean). Not a bad way to keep yourself entertained and it's actually kinda fun, not gonna lie.

Just finished campaign on the easiest level in 5 hours or so. And can say, that for me this game is a great window into the world of fighting games - yep, this one was my very first fighting game. And so, everything what people with more experience criticize about it, actually makes it perfect for a noob. 1, Yes, it's short (basically I finished it in two evenings) - and so it's a perfect first experience. 2. Yes, it's linear - and as somebody new to this genre I wanted a "guided introduction". 3. Yes, combat system is simple - for veterans of fighting games, that is. 4. Yes, visuals are amazing - ah, wait a sec, nobody complaints about visuals. 5. Yes, historically inaccurate - but for more historical accuracy I can go back to playing Rome II DEI mode. And like really, who cares about historical accuracy in a fighting game? Is the setting cool? Yep, it is. And I don't really need more. 6. Yes, story is as linear as level design - but somehow I didn't pick up this game for plot twists. I picked up this game to dismember barbarians with bloody finishers. And my goodness me, does this game deliver on this one!.. Summing up: if you are an experienced "virtual fighter", you might be disappointed, but if you just want to casually hack and slash or just try out this genre, then it's really perfect for beginners.

Interesting game, the story made so good and fight mechanics as well. Can say only BOSS fights are same and boring. It could be possible to finish him/her faster, but some why Marius just speaks too much or makes dumb move as push instead of slay, then starts second faze of the fight and the Boss has full HP and Marius doesn't... Graphics 10/10 Story 8.5/10 Collectables 0/10 Boss Fights 4/10 Fights 8/10 The choice is up to you...

Another top 3rd person view game of all time! Despite of the year it was made, the graphic is considered pretty much great to me surprisingly. The story line is just perfect! Brutal finishing moves by a gladiator! Would be the right game when you're having a bad day and thinking to unleash your inner beast! Please do not be hesitate to own this game, believe me you won't regret. Enjoy!

It looks very cool, the visuals are really really good. Especially considering the age of the game. The story is honestly also not horrible, really quite inventive. Where the game loses me is the gameplay in general. You're literally walking through one long corridor. The game is as linear as can be and has extremely boring (although graphically cool) combat, only sometimes getting variation in even more boring bouts of a glorified tower defence game. Decided to watch the story on YouTube because I can't get myself to play through this slog myself.

How often do you think about the Roman Empire? Uniquely set in 1st century BC as Rome conquering Britannia (the savage years). Not worth the RRP back in 2013 but these days it's a steal. Six hours of that slowmo scene from 300. QTE-like block, dodge, jab and heavy system. Conveniently placed scorpio segments. Shield formations with the boys. A surprising amount of elephants. There’s a 2 player arena mode to grind out but no luck finding a match.
