Every part of this game feels like it should combine to create a terrible experience. Minimal story, rushed ending, and only four weapons with the occasional heavy artillery. Yet somehow the devs made the gameplay so fun, so addicting that i blazed through 13 hours without realizing i was near the end of the game. The gunplay never gets old despite how barebones it is and commanding your squadmates to take up special weapons makes you and your teammates actually matter. The lack of options actually adds to the experience in a way, making the gritty tone of the setting sink in. Why the hell does a space laser gun have iron sights? Shit if i know but it makes me feel a lot cooler than if it had a scope! Your ai buddies actually being competent and not dead weight makes you feel like a team and god damn does it feel good to get out of a fight using good tactics and careful ammo management. Republic Commando shouldn't be good, but it is and kicks ass while doing it.

Masterpiece. Coolest armor in fiction. That visor wiper function is the coolest thing ever where your helmet got splattered by blood or oil and it automatically wipes them off.

Dont get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE this game... My negative review is centered around the fact that it is no longer playable. I have tried all the "fixes" posted in the forums, but the game still crashes every time I try to begin the campaign or load a save. I'm not sure why I was able to play before and not now, but it is what it is.

Not a bad game. It can be tiring after shooting hundreds of enemies that felt like a war game, but I enjoyed going through the map and listening to some music & voice lines. Medium difficulty was a bit much for me, so I switched to easy, and it somewhat helped. I didn't expect how the ending turned out, and it was kind of sad.

You lead a squad of four super soldier clones against clankers, lizards and bugs to defend the Republic! Short but sweet, fighting is hella fun and the story is good. 10/10 would recommend.

8.7 good game, first things first... dont use the Loaded cheat... because it bugs the game, you gotta get the Anti-Armor attachment after the Sniper attachment then, you are good to go wild with the Get all guns Cheat. the game is beautiful in a way, but if i remember... correctly, Halo looked a bit better like 2 years before this came out... in 2003, i think... i mean Halo came out in 2001 but Halo:CE came out in 2003 so it's complicated. whatever but that is the only flaw of the game, it's a bit short, but you won't feel that while playing. i spd up the game by using the All Ammo cheat. and it worked perfectly, the game game is stable, it doesnt crash, i clicked on Steam and that's the only reason i got a crash on my first startup. again, dont use the LOADED cheat until you pass the part where you are by the shielded door with the turret next to the shot down... shuttle. if you dont listen then you might have to start the game over, i just had to start the whole level over, no big deal. (but now you know why i love that all ammo thingy, it made up for the lost 30 minutes. there are no achievements and no glitches... as far as i can tell. (only the objective was bugged because i obtained the anti-armor from the cheat) the music is decent, not bad, but not great... good, i would say. it's more fun than Halo, because Halo is very difficult when you try the harder levels... and the bots are way more useful, except when they arent shooting, lol... (unless you like hidden items that are a pain to find and dying 20 times in 1 area). no nonsense with alternate difficulties. just a strong story, some cool lore, an awesome squad on a less than 5 gigs game which takes about 15 or 16 hours to finish. very nice.

Revisited the game after not playing for a few years. Did not regret. Pick it up if you ever have the chance to, and it's really cheap anyways!!!

What's not to like about this? It looks great, it runs on my lemon battery, it's arguably got the best story out of all star wars games, and you're not finding its gameplay anywhere else. If you're SERIOUSLY tight on cash, you can just wait until may to buy it since everything star wars goes on sale. I'm gonna rattle off a couple things you should do before playing it for the first time. First, navigate the menus with arrow keys, you'll have a stroke moving yur hand a millimeter and your cursor a mile. While you're navigating that menu, do yourself a favor and set the difficulty to hard, it sounds elitist, but I believe it gives a more carnal and accurate representation of the war. This is the best game I've ever played, it may not be the one that kept me playing the longest, but it certainly captivated me the whole way through despite the relatively short runtime.

WARNING: This game doesn't work well on modern machines and you might have to mess around with various fixes to get it to work properly. Many of the fixes require an NVIDIA card so computers with integrated graphics might not be able to get it working properly even if their specs are good enough. However it is a fun game with some interesting mechanics, if you can get it going it is worth it. In my case the constant crashing forced me to give up half way through the game and the many fixes I tried didn't work. So my recommendation is to buy on sale and give it a shot, it doesn't cost much.

Childhood 101. or should i say childhood 1138.. this game is utterly amazing. it plays just like halo but its star wars. if this game made a second game and by the way IT WAS COMING till it was stopped. it would have hands down ruled over most if not all FPS games and would have been a contender in today market. this game did not age well but it also aged like wine as all star wars games do back in the 2000s and up. if you have not played this game. ITS A MUST! now get out there and take them command posts!

Definitely an amazing game, even though the graphics aren't as good as today's, it is expected sense this game came out in 2009. But even though it was made then the mechanics are next to perfect, I honestly don't think I've ever played a game that was this good before. Long story short, it is amazing and for a pretty good price, get it if you can, trust me you won't regret it.

The game is showing it's age for being a 20 year old game but is still decent. Squad AI bugs out every so often.

One of the greatest Star Wars games to ever do it, but a deeply flawed one that I hope gets the change to shine greater in the future. Much like it's budget cousin WH40K Space Marine, Republic Commando is a linear, story-focused action game shooter that nails the source material. The diegetic nature of the UI and mechanics let you slip easily into the clone trooper commando boots it wants you to march 8 hours in, and it does it extremely well. From issuing orders to your charismatic and memorable squad, to breaching doors, to taking down Spider Tanks, to wiping the blood and oil off your visor, the presentation is top notch. It's exactly why I would constantly trade my PS2 for my friend's Xbox for weeks at a time, all so I could play Halo and Republic Commando and experience the lovingly crafted sci-fi boots-to-the-ground FPS campaigns. And once you install the unofficial "remaster" fan mods? Boy howdy are the license holders sitting on solid gold, let alone a Space Marine 2-level sequel. That said, it's still got a myriad of issues that last up until the game's Halo 2-inspired cliff hanger ending. For starters, and the most important, the shooting simply doesn't feel that great. The DC-17m looks amazing and has a super fun gimmick of switching barrels for gun types, but none of them have the punch and satisfaction one would hope for. The assault rifle is inaccurate and fiddly, the sniper rifle weekly "pews", the pistol is barely usable, and even the gimmick weapons (a cool shotgun, a Geonosian laser beam, etc.) lack something. The aforementioned beautiful presentation is nearly at Metroid Prime levels, but the lack of feedback also affects that, too. The edges of your screen being the commando visor is one of my favorite aspects, but it shakes so often as to be nauseating; in the third act something was off, and it would jitter at the slightest mouse movement. I had to turn it off entirely. The game thrives on that helmet HUD, and removing it feels like I'm experiencing a horrible UI bug, naked and unfinished. Enemy encounters, too, can often be overwhelmingly difficult, one of the causes being the often unsatisfying weapons. Sometimes the game throws so many waves at you that I can't tell if it's a bug or a purposeful unending wave. Enemies also have pinpoint accuracy and seem to favor you, so it's hard to get things done when you squad is pinned or down, and that's not including how bullet-spongey certain enemies are, particularly Super Battle Droids. The story is also nothing to write home about, but it's serviceable. It's a vehicle for you to jabber with Fixer, Sev, and Scorch while travelling through Republican warships, the forests of Kashyyyk, and the crags of Geonosis. It all culminates to one of the most infamous cliff hangers in video game history, rivaling Halo 2--except Halo 2 got a sequel and ended perfectly. I'm a sucker for huge cliff hangers like this one, but it pains me to know that we may never get a sequel. Disney is the evilest company in entertainment--and the richest--so you can bet there will be no budgets for video games outside of terrible Ubisoft and EA slop. A wonderful, deeply flawed gem of a game I often revisit. Two short sessions and you'll be wishing you could see the end of Delta Team's fate.

In a day where EA's SW battlefront II is all but confirmed to have a sequel, this is the real masterpiece whose sequel/Remake probabilities deserve some serious attention

I would not recommend this game ON STEAM because its all just a scam, when you buy it and open up the menu and try to start a new game,it kicks you out before it even finishes loading.

Yay! This has been on my backlog for 20 years and it definitely lives up to the hype! There are some aspects that have not aged well but overall the game is great. Using your squad tactically in different situations or just doing all the bomb planting yourself always gives each encounter a fresh perspective even though most rooms are exactly the same. If you are a star wars fan this is well worth your time.

Played this first when it came out and it still holds up (save for the primitive AI and sometimes too linear game design). Tho I am convinced this will never get the sequel it deserves its still a game worth picking up if you want to get a taste of one of the golden ages of Star Wars games.

I would recommend any Star Wars fan to play this. There are some issues with the mouse sensitivity, but you can easily fix that by downloading the Republic Commando fix. I still hope we get an Imperial Commando someday. I'd give it a 10 out of 10.

A gem of a first-person shooter from the golden age of Star Wars games, and a fantastic gateway drug to the Star Wars Expanded Universe (now branded as "Legends"). The mouse acceleration makes your cursor jump to Plaid in the menus if you so much as breathe on your mouse, but that's easily fixed with a single trip to ModDB. Aside from that mild annoyance, Republic Commando is solid gold from the word go, with engaging combat, great characters, an engaging story, immersive sound, visuals, and animations, and a grittier take on the Star Wars universe than most people are used to. Can't recommend it strongly enough.
