Honestly, I've been wanting to play this game for awhile - and have been waiting around to catch it on sale so that I could, right off the bat I'll say this game is worth catching on a sale rather than paying full price, there's only roughly 5-6 hours worth of content and the replay ability factor is pretty low (it's primarily only replayable to catch the achievements you miss otherwise none of your choices really matter or affect anything - the story still ends the same way no matter what you choose). Adding to that, overall the game towards the end just felt rushed - I feel like I was left with more open questions than I had answers to. Additionally there are lots of aspects that just honestly don't sit right with me after playing. { Warning for spoilers } Pros: - Decent art style, music, and voice acting. - Overall the outcomes from your choices can easily catch you off guard and aren't always easily predictable Cons: - There's only 5-6 hours total of content at max (this is exhausting all possible choice outcomes and getting all achievements) - Overall the story was fairly predictable right from the beginning - The ending left me with more questions than answers (such as what happens to the characters at the end, who some of the side characters are, what happened to some of the side characters we do frequently see throughout the game,
what is the actual translation of what hiro says that little misfortune keeps repeating
, what exactly *is* Benjamin since it's clear he's more than your simple average animal -
is he a spirit animal? is he just a magical being from one of the other realms referenced in the game?
,
was morgo truly defeated? What about other parasites referenced?
,
Who killed her - her mom or her dad?
, etc) - There are no alternate endings, the primary "secret" ending is just an extended aspect of the main ending to the story so ultimately your choices really don't affect the story in anyway outside of just shock humor. - There are no warnings outside of the reviews about the more adult themes, granted you go into the game knowing it's a fairly dark humor type game which utilizes shock humor but all to often there's a lot of things that just seem to be over the top or unnecessary such as: The depictions of abuse including abuse towards little misfortune (Literally one of her "toys" is a rock her dad threw at her which still has blood on it) as well as her consistent references towards the abuse her mother suffers, the level of neglect little misfortune experiences (including a story of being actively abandoned at a store or the consistent blatant references little misfortune makes to the sexual things/favors her mother does), suicide and random mentions of death, animal death, and more. - There is a lot of sexualization of little misfortune as well as lots of adult scenarios she's put into that are overall not really needed and don't even further the story such as: The multiple drug trips (whether it's "mints" or mushrooms), a point where she openly says she would flash someone "but she doesn't have titties like her mommy yet so she can't", when she mentions being annoyed she's told by the narrator that it's because she has "raging hormones, and that her body is preparing her to become pregnant, as well as a descriptive reference to periods" (keep in mind little misfortune is EIGHT years old and confirms so *in* the game, I noticed other reviews bring up the period conversation but several don't mention the fact that the narrator tells an eight year old that her body is preparing for pregnancy), she's allowed to enter a strip club (granted it's a
hamster
strip club, but none the less there's still a male dancer who is actively pelvis thrusting the entire time while little misfortune interacts with him), The entire carousal cut scene (was the moaning seriously necessary?), etc.

hispanic representation, lots of glitter, silly jokes, and a girl who loves a fox need I say more ??? and its a spooky game. Okay but on a real note this game hits home in a way that cannot be described, the "dark humor" that is layered with such deep heartbreaking truths that so many go through. While you are playing through the lense of"just a little lady" aka child, while hopefully being able to see the true struggle pain and complexity playing as a adult. She laughs off the trauma she goes through and doesn't even think about it. I truly want to give the devs the biggest hug. I will say the ending did leave me slightly unfulfilled I want to see more of what happened to Little misfortune after her journey, but maybe that's the whole point.

This is one that's kinda hard to pin, it's an interesting experience and the art and voice acting are great but it's very predictable and really gross, it relies on toilet humor despite there being some decent jokes already in the game. And the ending is just so flaccid after the adventure you take Misfortune on, there's nothing wrong with open-ended endings but that was not the way to go with this story.
We take this child on a literal abduction from her abusive home and learn about the *awful* 8 years she's lived while we watch life kick the sh*t out of her and have horrible, unfortunate things constantly happening and then she just dies? And there's no resolution? Even the eternal happiness ending ends with her mom smiling next to her daughter's corpse??? Like what?
20 dollars is way too expensive for what this game is, achievements are pretty easy though.

I very rarely do not recommend games, and even rarer to do I leave a bad review. I enjoyed the gameplay and story itself, I wish I could keep playing it, but I simply cannot. There are too many sexual/adult comments/themes for a protagonist who is EIGHT years old. There is a scene where she enters a strip club (which has zero relevance to the plot besides "haha 8 year old in a strip club"), takes drugs (again, no relevance besides "haha silly naive 8 year old thinks these drugs are mints"), she talks about FLASHING someone but she doesn't "have titties like her mommy does", and my final straw was when the narrator commented about her feeling annoyed was because she's about to start "bleeding out of her vagina for three to five days a month". I understand these conversations happen, but it is disgusting for it to happen THIS frequently in a game where that is not at all the point. I looked up to see if these themes continue and how others felt and it seems like it only gets worse and there are more comments and scenes that are not plot relevant simply for shock value of young child doing/saying sexual/adult things. If you're a pedophile, this game is great for you. Otherwise, maybe think about it?

as someone who LOVED fran bow, and didn't realize the same devs have created this game i was very intrigued about it, and wanted to play of for the longest time. i love the creepy vibe and the horrible backstory of the characters- and it is very well made. as much as i would have wanted the game to be longer, and have more difficult puzzles it is wonderful for new players that like the genre. it gives a warm welcome to creepy point & click type of games. thank you devs for this, and for fran bow. much love! continue doing what youre good at, i will be looking forward to more games you will hopefully make. if you're readign this and thinking of buying the game- you should! support the devs, show them some love and let yourself into their world. <3

Love it. The style is great, premise is great, the choices matter, but most importantly, Misfortune's voice is absolutely hilarious. Near the end the game gets quite dark but other than that it's a great time. Definitely worth a replay or two to see the branching options too!
Little Misfortune
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2830486860 I started little misfortune years ago and I thought maybe it was time for a 2nd playthrough. Little misfortune speaks about heavy topics related to domestic abuse, drugs, and depression even though it’s written the way a child would see it and with dark humour.“ I want to be a juice drinker like mommy” Discovering the story and following little misfortune in her misfortune Journey was bittersweet. HAPPINESS TO EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE YIKES FORVERRRRRRRRR!

Generally it's a laid-back, cozy & fun little game for a few hours. Beautiful art & (all in all) calm atmosphere. I'd recommend getting it on sale, since you can't squeeze more than 2 replays out of it (or 1 if you want to quickly get to the achievements and use your save slots properly). It is quite linear in its core, there are no complicated puzzles or super hidden paths/choices. It's more of a story telling game with a dark twist to it. The dialogues were -unexpectedly- oddly satisfying , and some quotes like "Ew, yikes forever!" in some "inappropriate" moments were enough to make you smile. I enjoyed the ending,
although it was sad, it did make perfect sense right from the beginning, and you gotta love it when a game hints you straight away from the get go.
Little misfortune will always stick with me. I don't have that many hours on it, but I still remember every little detail despite not playing in four years. It's haunting and a great game that really invests you in the story and characters.

The horror of this game isn't about the monsters or death, it's in how real it feels. I didn't expect to cry, laugh, and question my existence in such a short game. It's emotionally heavy, hits harder than many full-length games. The sparkle mechanic might seem like a joke at first, but by the end, it hurts. Misfortune might be "just a little lady", but her story left a big impact on me.

I like the (almost) omniscient narrator. The Story takes a dark and unexpected turn and the ending made my cry a little :(( To experience the whole journey with Little Misfortune and seeing the world through her eyes was very wholesome and concerning at times. Great story, nice style, easy to play and some funny moments. An emotional roller coaster but in a good way :)

It was a good game. The mini games in it are fun to play. I would definitely recommend this game to someone who likes more of the story telling I'm along for the ride kind of game. This is interactive but it does have its limits. I thoroughly enjoyed this game.

I wish I could've liked this game more. I had such high hopes because Fran Bow is an AMAZING 10000/10 game. This, however, felt very short and lacked depth in comparison. I also thought the dialog/voices were a bit annoying. When I reached the end of the game I was sure I was more towards the middle... I wasn't expecting it to end so abruptly. If you play this after Fran Bow, expect to be kinda disappointed. There were definitely good moments though.

***** 10/10 ***** Little misfortune has a great storytelling with a pretty cute little girl who is not very lucky in her life. Her point of view on her life is positive even though her life and environment sucks. She is just a child and the game reminded me that many times through her reactions and the way she talks. Though it has mystic events in it, things are harshly real. This game slaps you with harsh reality and as you play as a child it's more heartbreaking. Narrating of the game is superb and unique for me, voice actors nailed their job. Sound effects are really good too. As a former Fran Bow enjoyer I really liked to see the creatures that is also in the Fran Bow!!!

I only played through once so I definitely missed some content based on my choices, but honestly I see no real reason to go back and get them. While the voice acting and art style are solid that's really all this game has to offer. The story didn't really feel like anything special which is a shame. I spent most of my time in this game bored and just waiting for it to end, the only reason I didn't drop it was because I knew it was super short anyway. It was fine, but there are better games to spend your time on.

I've always wanted to play this game and had been waiting until I could get a PC to play it. You might be able to imagine my distaste when I realized how little gameplay there actually is. I got this game on sale for 6USD but I still feel a little ripped off. The 'edgy' jokes and immature potty humor seems to try and make up for the lack of stimulation you get from this game but it fails to do so... And I understand that the humor is supposed to be immature because Misfortune is an eight year old, but then tell me, why in the world is she going on insane drug trips and going to hamster strip clubs??? These moments felt like they were placed for a certain audience of people, ifykyk... I know that's a big accusation but the girl starts talking about her private areas for christ's sake... If you just HAVE to get this game, then go ahead, but my advice? Don't bother, go watch a play through because there is literally no way for the gameplay you're watching to be different than the gameplay you have, that's how unimportant your decisions are in this game...

I really wanted to like this game, I really did. But its just not a good experience. The story is extremely predictable. The humor, if you can even call it that, is downright disgusting most times considering Misfortune is EIGHT YEARS OLD. I get it and I like dark humor but the way the darker topics such as alcoholism, suicide, death, sex and drugs are handled in this game are disgusting. And the story doesn't even really answer any of the questions it poses, the gameplay is tidious rather than enjoyable and the story is barely 2 hours long. I paid 5 Euro for this and feel scammed. Also why is Misfortune constantly being sexualized? Why is the narrator telling her in graphic detail about periods and that she will "bleed from her vagina for 2-5 days" and that her body is becoming hormonal and "preparing to create life" because she says she feels annoyed and isn't used to it. Just a few minutes before this scene she talks about getting into the zoo by potentially "flashing her titties if she had any", her words not mine, because she saw her mother do it before. Why is there an unnecessary scene of her bum being out and farting? Why can she go to a strip club even if it is run by Hamsters? Why can she take drugs? Why is the game so into tackling dark topics but afraid to actually confront them properly. Its supposed to be dark humor, not exploiting a kid simulator. Theres no humor or conversation here. Lets get to the fact the story never actually answers any of its already few story points. This yet another big weakness. What is Morgo? What is Benjamin? Please Devs, one note about some scientific mumbo jumbo and weird riddles are not explaining things. What happened to her at the end? Was it her mom or her dad? Theres more questions at the end than there were throughout the game. I only committed to 100% this because I couldn't refund it anymore since I owned it for too long and it was extremely easy. Just buy and play Fran Bow if you want an actually interesting game. The devs really really dropped the ball with this. [Edit] I forgot to say that while the game puts HUGE emphasis on the consequences of your actions and that you should think about your actions it doesnt have any consequences besides the Vase at the very beginning. No matter what you pick the ending is always the same. Another let down.

This game is just bad, I had big hopes for it, not only it didn’t meets my hopes but it’s way worse than that, and it definitely doesn’t deserve its price. The game is just a small slide show, it’s a small children book, i can clearly see that they’re trying so hard to be sally face yet failing to come close, sally face was enjoyable, the story was excellent and it relied on players to progress. This game relies on your walking and pressing space bar, that’s the whole game! In the entirety of the game i’ve been scratching my head trying to hard to think who this game is targeted for. It’s just bad and ended way prematurely I’m just sad that the state of video games has reached this low. My only wish for myself is to never come across games like these.
