I've seen a bunch of reviews saying this game is shorter and simpler than the original. To be fair, the original had two expansions (Forgotten Shores and Ida's Dream) that weren't part of the original mobile release but do come bundled with the Steam version, but yes, there's a bit less content here. What is here is another immaculately-crafted story told through the simplest means. How these guys manage to get a couple of shapes on a screen to emote like that, I have no idea. Pixar should be taking notes!

While I did enjoy this game, it seemed simpler than the first and a tad shorter too? I enjoyed the gameplay of controlling two characters to solve puzzles, but don't think that the puzzles increased in complexity because of it. The story is great, the trees are gorgeous, I just wish that there were more 'wrong turns' to have to rule out! I had really hoped to like it as much as I did the first game, and I did enjoy playing this sequel, but not as much as I had hoped. Seth - please don't try this one and then decide to not play the first! Overall, it was lovely, and I am glad that I played it, but I think I was hoping for more?

Very pretty and entertaining puzzle game. Just know it isn't very long when you buy it. Overall I would recommend though

If you liked the first game, this is more of the same. Pretty colors and nice music... but overall I feel like this is a downgrade in every way from the first. It doesn't offer anything new in the way of puzzle mechanics, the levels are all much shorter, the puzzles are generally easier, (I didn't a single time have to stop and think about what I was going to do it basically autosolved most of the time) and the thin story is a little bit weaker. I finished this game in under two hours when the original took almost four. There was some potential for new possibilities with two character puzzles, but the game never really took advantage of it except in the final stage, and that was very brief. And none of the levels were as stand out and memorable as the unfolding box level in the first game or the long areas with the block companion, the atmosphere never matched the descent into the dungeon, or met the same joy, and frustration, of dealing with the bird. I don't want to give this a negative review, its too pretty and cheap for that, and it's fine as at atmospheric thing... but I notice many of the reviews are negative and have the same criticism, but they're giving it a pass anyway. I originalyl gave this a positive as well but.... it's just not as good as the first. I was looking forward to the third game, having immediatley fallen in love with this franchise... and now I'm not. if you already played the first one this just doesn't offer anything interesting or new. Don't get it unless you LOVED the first, its overall a downgrade.

Monument Valley 2 is shorter and easier than Monument Valley 1. The puzzles are simpler and less complex. The presence of the mother-daughter story line indeed touched my heart. I especially liked the part where we can design our own geometric art to commemorate the completion of each chapter. There are endless unique combinations we can create! The graphics and music are lovely...I do wish the game was longer though. Still, it's a great addition to the series and I cannot wait for Monument Valley 3!

Monument Valley was a mobile game so ambitious, one could argue it holds its own against the titans of the puzzle genre. Can Monument Valley II say the same? Ehhhhhhh.....? Let's get the positives out of the way. MV2's art style is phenomenal. It takes a more uplifting tone than the original, so it's not like it's a straight improvement, more like a side-grade and arguably subtle upgrade. Chapter VII was a personal favorite of mine, and really encapsulated the minimalist, hyper contrasted visuals compared to MV1's more somber artstyle. The music is tolerable, like the first game. I'd never listen to the soundtrack on my own time, but I didn't mute the game either. It's appropriate and atmospheric. The story is a little more nonsensical but there was more of an effort to display deeper meanings, which was nice to gnaw my teeth on. Now, why does Monument Valley II not hold its own like Monument Valley does? It's... not the greatest puzzle game. Sure, if you got a lobotomy in the last 6 months it might melt your brain (more than a lobotomy does), but Monument Valley was good because it was simple, then it would throw a curve ball at you. Going from one game to the other, Monument Valley II throws a curve ball immediately, then forgets about it half-way through the game. The puzzles would be great... if they were followed through on. Monument Valley has never been a hard puzzler (with the exception of maybe Nocturne, which had me scratching my head for a while), but it at least made you think. Monument Valley II has a habit of introducing new ideas, then moving on. It even does this with its main gimmick (controlling two characters at once). Notice how I barely talked about how it changed the dynamic? Because it doesn't, and they [spoilers] split the two characters half way into the game, making the rest of it basically a solo trip. Even Forgotten Forest, the DLC that, like Ida's Dream, was supposed to be the level that utilizes the established mechanics in a unique way... you just play as Ro's Daughter. Ro doesn't show up once. And unlike Monument Valley, there is no Forgotten Shores equivalent to put you to the test. Overall why do I still give this game a thumbs up? It's still a solid 7.5/10. It's on sale for under $3 USD right now, and that's a good price for what you get. And it's still Monument Valley at its core. It's still cool as hell. My time wasn't wasted, and I easily 100%ed it. Not a classic like the original, but I'd recommend it still.

Fun little non-eucliedian puzzle game. Very short, I got every achievement in under 2 hours, so bear in mind before buying.

Even if the story is more introspective and emotional than adventurous unlike the first chapter (I mean both games have all these aspect but the first is more on the adventurous side while the second prioritize the first two aspect more), it's stil engaging and can still surprise you many times, even if you remember the first Monument Valley, and it still keep evolving mechanisms of the puzzles or even add many new more. And, like the first game, it still never have a boring moment, even in situations where most of the other puzzle games would slow down uselessly and annoy you. Overall I personally prefer the sceneries of the first game, but still here there are MANY highlights of sceneries that makes it worth the same. So yeah I can confirm that, between the many purely puzzle games I've played, the Monument Valley saga and The Last Campfire are personally the best. And I'm almost sure that the third chapter will confirm this even more when it will come on PC

This game is shorter than the first, but still excellent to play. I like the mother and child storyline and gameplay, and the puzzles and art palette were as good as the first. I can't wait to see what is in store for Monument Valley 3!

A very good and relaxing puzzle game! The puzzles are really fun and really get you thinking, but are still easy enough that it doesn't become annoying. But it is very short, just like the first game. (takes ~2.5 hrs to fully complete) 9.8/10

Cool sequel, played the 2 games back to back. I like the new mechanic, I jjust wish it was used a little bit more. Overall I think the first one was better mostly because it was longer and had a few challemging moments despite both games still being very easy, but I didn't dislike this one or anything. Waiting for the 3 and I hope that one is a bit longer and harder

This is about half the length of the original, which I also got on sale for less than $3. That's partially because of being able to solve the puzzles faster by being more in-tune with how the game works. This one is just as good. The music and visuals were great and in many ways better. The puzzles were still difficult enough to give a good feeling but never too frustrating to get stuck for long periods. I look forward to purchasing the third one. I was surprised they came up with new ways in this one to continue to use perspective differently and add new mechanics (like 2 puzzlers, and new ways for the map to interact).

Less of a puzzle game than the first, but has enough fun ideas to make this little game enjoyable. That said, this red child is fake, the only real son is the line piece, who makes a prodigal return.

Wow, this is a sequel. I have known this franchise for years and have replayed the first two games many times (eagerly awaiting the third's release on Steam), and this entry continues to blow me away each time I play it. This is an emotional story of growing up and watching those you love grow up, and you would not think that since it seems like a puzzle game. But oof does it hit hard. As does the sound design. Play this game with headphones, and you will love it so much more. I cannot recommend these games enough. Bonus points for the expansion, The Forest. Short and sweet with an important message.

Fine, but I preferred the first one. Ran into an unfortunate save error where corrupted files caused me to lose all progress once mostly done. Don't think I'll finish it as a result. Try the original!
