Revisiting the game near to the launch of its remastered edition seems like a good idea, of among the many games of my childhood and during what was the golden era of point and click adventure games, Broken Sword stood out as among the most revolutionary and memorable among many. A comparison of childhood awe with a more tempered experience with similar games decades down the road was interesting indeed to see how much still held true to today. The director's cut polished what to me was already a great game, great in the sense that at that time it was a shining example of what could be and what has launched a franchise of five games, one even reviving it via kickstarter which i backed. Additional story elements to tie in the game, more role for Nico which was great and perhaps sadly zapping of the legendary goat puzzle. To me the game still holds true today among the greats, like Gabriel Knight, Sam and Max series, Days of the Tentacle and of course Monkey Island. The graphics and videos are dated but still has the retro feel to it, the story of Templars, Assassins, Indiana Jones adventure courtesy of the American Stobart and his lovely compatriot the reporter Nico, was well written though not without it defects. It was a compelling detective adventure game with many interesting and later recurring side characters like Duane and Pearl. The humour was great and funny in many instances and the Templar lore intriguing enough to pull you in. Yet it does show its age, perhaps why the remaster came about, it also showed many of the flaws of its genre and time, the pixel hunt for items, the at times illogical puzzles and item combo requirements, the lack of an intuitive hint system which at times sends you to look for an online walkthrough. But all in all for those living the age of adventure games as a child, it still holds much awe and wonder and will forever be a permanent fixture in my game library even with many modern competitors. Thank you Revolution for bringing this to gamers.

Remember kids; NEVER use a random piece of wire as an electrical fuse IRL.
