Did the minimum job and campaign should've been longer. More customization and extra DLC expansions would've been nice as well. Nowhere near the level of Gauntlet Dark Legacy, but a decent game with good visuals, sound, voice acting, and dungeon design.

An arcade classic that defined cooperative gaming for generations, Gauntlet evokes bittersweet memories for many with its pixelated sprites and relentless dungeon crawling. Fast forward to today, and the Gauntlet remake emerges as a title that not only pays homage to its roots but also breathes new life into the formula. This review explores the various facets of the game, from gameplay mechanics to the audio experience, ensuring that both veterans and newcomers can fully enjoy the nostalgic fun.
GAMEPLAY MECHANICS
The Gauntlet offers gameplay mechanics that balance simplicity and depth, making it accessible to both newcomers and seasoned veterans. Players can choose from four iconic classes: the tanky Warrior, the spell-slinging Wizard, the agile Elf, and the fierce Valkyrie. Each character brings something unique to the table, not just in aesthetics but also in gameplay style and abilities. The controls are remarkably responsive, allowing players to navigate the chaotic environments with ease. The developers have built upon the classic formula by introducing an evolved loot system. Players collect potions and artifacts that may change the course of battle. Additionally, the environment features traps and destructible elements, adding a strategic layer to confrontations. Players may find themselves weighing the pros and cons of charging into a room filled with foes versus luring them into a convenient trap.
VISUALS
Visually, the Gauntlet remake pays homage to its roots while embracing contemporary aesthetics. With a vibrant colour palette and intricate 3D modelling, the game brings it more to life in improved detail. Each dungeon is meticulously crafted with thematic visuals that contribute to the ambience and atmosphere of peril. The character designs are both familiar and revitalised, retaining the essence of the originals while being infused with charm. Special effects during combat are particularly noteworthy: magical spells ignite the screen while enemies disintegrate.
AUDIO
Equally impressive is the audio design, which encapsulates the essence of a dungeon crawl. The soundtrack features orchestral themes punctuated by electronic beats, enhancing the adrenaline rush of battles. Sound effects resonate with nostalgia—a familiar grunt when an enemy is vanquished, the jingle of collected gold, and the echoing footsteps through the dungeon halls create a haunting atmosphere. Sound effects are crisp and impactful; the gratifying clinks and clatters of coins collected, the satisfying whoosh of spell-casting, and the echoing cries of defeated foes create a fully immersive environment. Moreover, the voice acting is surprisingly engaging; each character has quips and taunt emotes that not only provide comic relief but also build personality. The combination of immersive audio and visual elements draws you deeper into the world, making every encounter feel like an epic victory or a desperate struggle.
MULTIPLAYER
As with any solid Gauntlet experience, multiplayer shines like a radiant beacon. Up to four players can join forces (or compete for loot) in local or online co-op modes. The chaotic nature of gameplay encourages communication and teamwork, which amplifies the fun. It’s a blast coordinating attacks, strategising over which characters should take on which enemies, and sharing a good laugh when a poorly timed spell leads to unexpected disaster.
THE LOWDOWN
Gauntlet has strong gameplay mechanics, visuals, and thrilling multiplayer experiences. It's a delightful mix of nostalgia and modern gaming, providing a chaotic yet satisfying romp through dungeons filled with monsters and treasures. If you’re in search of a game that embodies camaraderie, strategy, and just the right amount of chaos, the Gauntlet remake invites you to plunge into its exciting depths. Gather your friends, select your hero, and get ready to embark on an adventure that honours both the classic and the contemporary. It's time to gear up and unleash your inner warrior!

There is sort of a bygone era of classic dungeon crawlers. I'm talking Gauntlet, Bulder's Gate, and Champions of Norrath dungeon crawlers. While dungeon crawler games are certainly in no short supply, the simplicity of how they were, and the simple gameplay with co-op just made these games so great. Gauntlet is a certified hood classic, and this edition is no different. Get it for you and the household, and have a good time.
