for thirty years the playstation games, rollcage and rollcage stage two, were unmatched in any format. we needed network play, new music, some customisation, and any resolution. of course, after thirty years, we lose hope. now we have grip. and it's absolutely gorgeous. most of the menu flow is honed toward quickly getting to a mode and track with all the nuanced options within easy reach at the same time. the complete garage being available at every step, even between tournament rounds, allowing loading a complete set of custom paints and changing vehicles per track. dlc is integrated seamlessly and applied with customisations same as the wide library of in game unlockable content. if seamless rhythm through the menus and outside the game isn't needed then the dlc music tracks are also in the main game with all the wild energy depth and ingenious complexity of rollcage's original offerings. and then there is the race tracks. everything is bigger except the crucial racing lines which are crazy, swooping from one epic landscape to another through precise crevices and conduits. many routes, frequent surprises, and vast expanses of beautiful places. as of 2025 i add some notes: the resolution does not yet play well with steamdeck, so screen settings must be twiddled in game and out while most text is still unreadable. several bugs persist, like the 'insert coin' message even for an unequivocal win, and false 'wrong way' warnings. npc names and pics are inconsistant between every screen and random players are highlighted in race stats. these bugs don't stop the racing but they mess with the experience. special note for players with ptsd or sensitive to violence, the gameplay is not visceral, only robotic battling and extreme environments. yet from the first icon to the game mode names and trophy names and more is toxically violence coded. i don't know who expects this from a game that instantly replaces every vehicle back on track, but i have to conclude the developers team has bowed to a perceived userbase that favours toxic edginess in multiplayer racing games, even though the nature of the game is like it's wild carefree inspiration, rollcage stage two for the playstation one. still i give this game a recommendation due to the fluent multiplayer machinations in the sheer beauty of the epic level design which must be experienced by everyone who can cope with the technical and attitude issues.

Fast, furious, and totally wild! Feels like a rocket-powered rollercoaster on wheels. If you love speed and crazy stunts, this game grips you tight and never lets go.

This game is rough around the edges, but it is pretty fun with friends online or split screen.

Very hard, very unforgiving, but extremely ambitious and satisfying as all hell. Reminds me of the extreme-G days when racers had grit.

This game is such a hidden gem. I love it! So simple yet such depth. It's like F-Zero meets Mario Kart. Racing at breakneck speeds with powerups to mess up your opponents. 3-dimensional racing on walls and ceilings. Excellent custom game settings. I especially love the "Catchup Assistance" setting you can turn on to keep the racers close together, for intense races! My only wish is if I could modify the drop tables for weapons (so racers can use more of my favorite pickups and less of the others). There's 64 race tracks if you count the reverse versions and mirror versions. Can't wait to play this with some friends!

it's just a basic good game. Worth the little bit they ask, especially if you bundle imo.

It is like a more serious Mario Kart. Its got it's quirks, but its a pretty good game. Been having a blast playing with friends. Bought a bunch of copies for them at $4.50

Got this on a sale for $5. Excellent for that price! I've watched a few videos before playing this myself. It looks easier when a pro drives, but there's a little more to take into consideration then I thought. Even though you can drive on walls, it doesn't mean its like Trackmania and the track banks for you. You have to pay attention to the track (and let go of the accelerator after leaving the ground). I can understand a lot of people abandon this too soon because the handling can be frustrating even without other players blowing you off the track. Even when doing everything right, hitting a slight bump wrong can start instability that can't be ridden out. I wouldn't let it discourage me tho, and now I'm loving it. All tracks are open to play from the start, I recommend NOT starting with the city tracks. Those were the most frustrating overall. My favorite track is "Lit" the volcano track. it's labeled "Hard", but I can handle it at hyperspeed now. I also found the "Terra" brand to be the best ships for me, Much less instability.

Grip is really good. There's a solid mix of arcade nonsense and driving skill and the cars feel meaningfully different. Get this with a bunch of friends and scream at each other on VOIP.

Pretty sure these tracks were designed by a 12 year old who broke into his dad's liqueur cabinet
