There's a reason this game is a classic, one of the indie grandparents to define the scene. This isn't a long game, not in the slightest, but still incredibly fun despite it! If you're strapped for cash and really wanna get the most bang out of buck, there are games with more replay value out there, but VVVVVV is a well deserved classic with a fun gimmick and incredibly satisfying platforming. Solid recommendation.

Good game but the routing is either dog-shit or I'm an idiot that has no idea where to go

An excellent little 2D platformer, whose main mechanic - a jump that defies the tyrannical laws of gravity - is fun and inventive from start to finish. It’s relatively challenging, at times, but has quick respawns and generous checkpoints. The map is well-designed, and a pleasure to explore. The story, dialogue and characters are, like the art design, minimalist, lively and fun. And the music is superb. A deserved indie classic.

This game is amazing. The soundtrack is awesome. I've been playing this for literally over a decade. My number of hours in this game should be a testament to my love for this game (and its only my hours on stream over the last few years) I LOVE THIS GAME!

While in some parts it was frustrating, especially for the trinket where you have to go so far up and make it back down without hitting any spikes, LOVE this game. It’s colourful, the music is so well done, and very creative. I really hope VVVVVV gets a sequel one day.

just a super fun and rewarding game. it is very difficult but it does not waste your time. you are rewarded for persistence and the OST is great. people actually do deathless runs of this game? Bonkers

a frustratingly underrated platformer masterpiece, possibly caused by its lack of further content or short-lasting ecosystem of mods. i'll get around to checking the modding community of this game at some point, but for the time being, replay value isn't exactly plentiful.

I tried to think of how to summarise this game shortly, but it's proven very difficult this time around. Despite how simple it looks and feels, there are a lot of subtle details in it that make it feel larger than it is and truly complete. At its core, the game is an 8-bit, retro-inspired puzzle game where the main mechanic is the ability to flip the character's gravity at the press of a button. The developer could have easily made something straightforward and plain with this concept, and I feel as if this is what most people initially expect, but VVVVVV isn't like that. Not at all. Whether it's the ability to explore a seemingly large map and discover levels as you go, the short but memorable story, or the tiny details, such as the fact that the individual rooms are named funny names, this game feels so... alive is the best way to put it. There are always tiny surprises here and there, and they're sprinkled everywhere so that, after I was finished playing and thought of what exactly it was that made me like this game so much, I struggled to put it into words. But I think I get it now. It was always about the tiny details you don't immediately pay much attention to, turns out. And I think the soundtrack conveys this very well. Although much of it is retro, there are moments when other kinds of more modern instruments sneak up on you, much the same way that the little things in this game do, and it makes many of the moments in it, at first seemingly normal as far as video games go, unexpectedly emotionally resonant. I may be struggling to come up with many adjectives to describe this game, but I do understand what makes it what it is. For the lack of a better way of phrasing it, it's the fact that this game has a soul. Behind its cold, 8-bit exterior, it has the ability to make you feel wonder, frustration, sadness and, above all, joy. You know how sometimes you can just implicitly tell that a game was made with love by doing nothing else but going through it? VVVVVV is like that. So yes, play it!

I have enjoyed this game a TON! This is one of those games that feels so rewarding to play if you give it enough time to make you rage! I'm not being sarcastic; finally getting past that one really challenging obstacle will keep you coming back for MORE! I could really see this game being a patience tool for anyone who struggles with a short temper, as the challenges you face are never really unfair. My favorite part; however, is the level editor. It has many interesting quirks that make using it a good challenge on it's own. It has a couple reference menus to help you get started, and the more you mess around with it, the more options for creativity you have. If you like a good challenge and creative game play, then I strongly recommend giving this a try!
