RAID: World War II reminds me why I even like cooperative games like PAYDAY: The Heist in the first place. Let me ask you two questions first. For your favorite live service game, which update would you say it's the best one? Would you want your favorite live service game to permanently end on said update? Both RAID: World War II and PAYDAY: The Heist have something in common that none of their successors have ever captured. They are both games that may seem very simple and content-lite at first glance. But that is precisely why both games work so damn well. They don't need me to constantly play them and grind them for RPG-like progression. They don't need to constantly deliver content updates for me to feel like the game is getting more feature-complete. If you need a game to provide extrinsic motivations to play the game (such as updates), was it ever fun in the first place?
RAID: World War II is only focused on giving me a damn good cooperative First Person Shooter where every public lobby feels like I'm just hanging out and having fun with other players rather than fighting against them. And that's the important thing. That feeling of camaraderie in just a short play session because the game is fun to play. That is intrinsic motivation to play the game.
That's why I'm glad that M.U.G. team (a small group of three modders who are updating the game in their spare time without pay) have taken over development of this game after it has originally stopped development nearly half a decade ago. Because every update they make (no matter how infrequent, which is perfectly fine by me, take your time), I would say that it would be a damn great update to end on because it would be fun to go back to regardless if it ever got updates thereafter. Here's to hoping the team will eventually get to make a new DLC Expansion Pack (alas the Wolfpack DLC for PAYDAY: The Heist) because I want to support them in whatever way I can. But for now, have this positive review! Here's hoping this game can get to Mostly Positive in due time (in a digital marketplace that sadly doesn't appreciate games which are late-bloomers being supported by modders in their free time).

Proves that every time overkill said they had "engine limitations" for Payday 2 was complete bullshit. That alone is enough to play this game. Also, the game itself is really fun :D

Raid had a rough start, it used to be really bad. Now though? Game's really worth checking out, it's fun and engaging, shooting feels great, especially when you shoot a Jerry

After many years, I keep coming back to this game more than to PD2 or PD:TH. Hopefully it will have another small resurgence soon.

I just started playing this game because I heard somewhere that it was "like payday 2", one of my favorite games, mostly because I cannot play PD2. It is and it isn't. The game is great on its own; firstly it works perfectly fine, no hard crashes, no nonsense. Stealth is a great new take; you may not have fancy shmancy tech, but niether do they >:D; no cameras, no walkie-talkies AND you can move corpses without skill investment. I think it important to say that you can stealth a mission without skills or the Welrod. Its Awesome, Empowering even. Yes, you only have a healthbar, but enemies you take down (even in stealth) have health and ammo drops; that does not mean you can stay indefinitely in a raid, if you get downed, you can only get it back by finding super medkits. (there are 3 tiers of consumables for health and ammo, only the biggest medkit one gives downs back and enemies "only" drop the other two) There are 3 types of crates scattered on every raid, they can give ammo, throwables (yes you can spam nades :D) and health. I dont know what to say, honestly. I was expecting Payday 2-esque, but found a gem, not even in the rough. Just awesome stuff. It even gets decent to great updates (yes it still gets updated) TL.DR.: Great game, great price, great updates. Papa Johns (:D) Just get it, I think its worth it.

While rough around the edges, it is a decent shooter game. Not only that but its getting fixes recently and little upgrades. While not exciting enough to play non-stop it's a pleasant little horde shooter to pick up whenever you feel like it.

I can't believe this is still getting updates. While you're at it please make the dogtags less of a PITA to find. EDIT: They did it the madlads they made the dogtag sounds louder to make them easier to find.

Its amazing how community was able to make this game alive again. Gameplay is fun, build variety got way bigger and don't get me started on how characters actually have conversations between eachother. it also shows that the good old diesel engine still has some juice left and is not that outdated as starbreeze says. i'd say for ten bucks? it is worth it.

>Boot the game >Try doing mission on stealth >Mission softlocks >Restarts mission loud >Enemy wave immediately starts >At least 20 dudes stuck in the same place with no A.I. whatsoever >10 more outside the drawdistance snipping me >Die >Game crashes Classic Diesel Engine
Raid: WW2 just doesn't have that spark like PD2 had.
I feel like an asshole because "what do I MEAN that spark?!?!" Like, what am I even talking about? And while trying to search my heart for the answer, I came to a nasty conclusion. The truth is that the deeper meaning doesn't really matter. The truth is that when I see this game in my library, I don't want to start it up. The "heists" are lame, the characters are Whatever, the guns are meh, the soundtrack is totally forgettable, the combat is just Boring, the AI sucks, stealth is Meh... but I don't HATE it. I don't know why I don't hate it. Maybe because it's developed by a small group of passionate fans rather than a big dev team. I WANT to like it. But I don't. Maybe some of these problems might be alleviated by playing more and testing more of the skill tree and tinkering with guns more, but like I said: I just don't want to start up the game. If you're coming here looking for the golden age of Payday 2 like I was; I don't think you'll find it here. I wish this game the best of luck.

ive put in 20 hours into the game and im not gonna lie this has been nothing more then a awesome game to play it reminds me of payday 2 but world war 2 and killing nazis is ALWAYS a blast all though the game is small due to alot of people not knowing about its resurgence its still awesome to find the people still playing this game and i only hope it will grow in numbers as time goes on Raid is in good hands with the new dev team who may i remind people were once modders made something special and fixed a game worth of praise

Between the death and revival of this game it was really fun to see on steamdb that i was sometimes one of 10 if not the only person playing the game at some times.
