I think this might be the best of the Shovel Knight games. From a traditional gameplay sense, it's best better than Plague Of Shadows and Spectre Of Torment was too easy. Probably on a par with Shovel Of Hope, but then you add in the card game into the story and you've got an incredible package. Also huge props to the developers. I originally bought Shovel Knight on Wii U and still could have played this on Wii U for free as a result, but they deserve the extra money.

If you feel like spinning around in the air like an idiot playing as an idiot and also having a big brain with a card game, then you should like this. Please add in multiplayer, local or online. Yeah this is big brain time. -Markiplier

Shovel Knight: King of Cards is the unholy union of a platformer and a card game. If you have played any of the games in the Shovel Knight franchise, you know what to expect. Great pixel graphics, fantastic music, fun level design and precise gameplay. This time they also threw in an extremely enjoyable card game as an added bonus. While some of the levels were not my favourite, they are generally short enough that frustration never sets in. A great game for a great value. 5/5

shovel knight treasure trove is my favorite game of all time. the platforming is great (exept plague knight, freak him) the story is really great for an NES game and the game have so much to offer in 2021. for me this is the best indie 2d game and the best game ever created.

King of Cards is a really nice campaign of the Shovel Knight's series: funny storyline, great mobility of the main character, easy to learn but challenging. Give it a try!

Prequel of Shovel Knight, you play as King Knight which shows how it happened before Shovel Knight stepped in and save everyone. While the stages are the same like Shovel Knight, the obstacles are different due to King Knight having different movesets, along with new bosses and other different stuff you dont see in the original Shovel Knight. Gameplay is just as good as the original so worth getting it. Also make sure to get Shovel Knight Treasure Trove to get a total of 3 games in one (This game isnt one of the 3 so get this as well).

This was pretty fun overall.
The reliance of insta-kill pits on the final boss was questionable yacht club
More fun than Specter of Torment and Shovel of Hope in gameplay and in story in my opinion. The more stretched out maps and shorter levels is a fresh new experience that is very welcome. I didn't use the abilities very often but theyre mostly pretty cool. New enemy variants, bosses, minibosses, gameplay mechanics, areas, AN ENTIRE CARD GAME (which is great fun by itself) mix with a great, funny story to make a superb addition to the franchise. Took me 30ish hours to 100% including challenge mode and I enjoyed every minute of it (except those spent grinding for card completionist). The soundtrack is great, the entire experience is colourful and fun. Very glad I purchased it.

pretty annoying game, didnt really enjoy playing it, although the game does have a lot of soul to it, which i do like about it. imo, this game has the most fun nongameplay parts, but the most annoying actual gameplay parts

Honestly, I can see how people like it, with it's retro-style graphics and arcade feel, but your $14 is probably better placed in a different game. Shovel of hope is a good alternative if you want a game in this style. I have to note that some of the platforming is VERY hard, some of the gameplay is super confusing, and the storyline is very cliche. (Please note that if you've already finished shovel of hope this probably will be a great game for you.)

A game that is worthy of the Yacht Club title. It feels different while still having the feel and style of the Shovel Knight universe. Additionally, it's 2 games in 1 since you have an optional card game competition called Joustus. 5 Golden Crowns out of 5 Golden Crowns

I would say this is my least favorite Shovel knight game but i actually just didn't enjoy it at all. I find the core mechanic confusing at best, the environments seemed pretty lazy. Oh and i hate card games.

Great game, however, i have to ask, why isnt Plague of Shadows on Steam? Not even in the Treasure Trove Bundle, i’ve been meaning to get that one as well, but i need to actually be able to purchase it

This is my favourite game of all time the limited moveset makes this game even more fun. The abilities are cool and King knight as a caracter is funny in the way that the storry basicaly moves around him but he is totally bsent minded when there is shown a bigger picture. And the Jostus game was a really nice adition.

The Order of No Quarter has some of the best characters in the indie space. Let's make a game about the worst one. Shovel Knight: King of Cards takes place at the exact same time as Specter of torment and shows how King Knight got inducted into the Order of No Quarter. This is literally just your basic Shovel Knight expansion. Go through all the same areas that you always go through, fight all the same bosses, and a FEW new ones along the way. Although this expansion separates all of the different areas into much shorter stages instead of one long stage which is... odd. The gameplay is perfectly fine. King Knight's unique mechanics are fun enough to keep me invested and the Heirlooms are EXTREMELY fun to use. Joustus is passable too, although it hurts my brain with how complicated it gets at times. So, why did I give a negative review? KING KNIGHT HIMSELF! Out of all the remaining members of the Order to make a game out of, we chose the most boring, one-note, cliche, and uninteresting one? At least with the other expansions they gave the main leads something to make them more interesting like giving Plague Knight a love interest, or delving into Specter Knight's backstory. Here, there is nothing at all. Just a pompous d1ck that wants everybody to do what he says. King Knight is not interesting in any way. He heals himself by crying, he lives with his mother, and he doesn't value anything but gold and himself. Those factors do not make a good protagonist. You could have made a game starring any other member of the Order and gotten more of an interesting story and a more 3 dimensional character. If you wanted more great Shovel Knight gameplay definitely pick this up, but if you came here expecting an interesting story along the lines of Plague of Shadows or Specter of Torment, you will be royally disappointed.

Collection of fan maps with high difficulty. Rinse and repeat of previous games with one exception. Joustus is fine and entertaining but only handful opportunities to play are presented with no impact on the story.

Yeah, i was expacting a fun light-hearted game about a dumbass guy trying to win a card game. It's that but the card game is not very fun. Yeah you can skip it. But... ain't that the point of the game? Being the King of CARDS? But what about the platforming sections? They are really good! 'till they force me to not use the dash and then i just got bored. Out of my 1 hour of gameplay. 40 minutes was spent in the card game. And as you can see... I don't like card games. I thought the card game was gonna be fun. But it wasn't. If you're a card game fan then sure try this out! But this is not for me

Shovel Knight: King of Cards is an awesome game. It has great graphics, great music, a great story line, and most importantly, (In my opinion.) great game play mechanics! The way it transitions from a Platformer to a Card Game and back is truly interesting, and all the little details really allow it to shine. I would go as far to say that this game rivals the original Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope, and for a prequel, it is amazingly well executed!
