I can name few games that so flawlessly capture the pure joy of cause-and-effect, of embracing that primal satisfaciton of Video Game Physics and then turning it into an absurdist challenge, It is a small-yet-infinite puzzle, packaged into an effortlessly charming spring-loaded box that makes a funny sound when you open it.
If you've ever felt that pure, playful urge to clamber out of bounds, to solve physics puzzles in a completely unintended way, or to construct a ridicouls roundabout solution to what should be a trivial challenge, then I urge you to give this game a try: it was carefully crafted to scratch that very same itch, to provide an endless stream of short, bite-sized scenarios, removed from any notions of balance or guaranteed solvability, and then to dare you to try and win anyway.
The name Mosa Lina is a truly perfect encapsulation of what this game is: It's familar yet off, beautiful to behold and containing multitudes, boldly breaking conventions and rules while playfully mocking your expectations of what a game actually is. It is an enchanting, wonky, and unforgettable work of art.

This game asks for nothing. There's only one metric of 'completion' in this game, and even that one is nebulous. Just that is enough to set it apart from so many other games, and if you enjoy the game (a great puzzle platformer!), you will find that it's a very good toy! Pick it up and play, put it away when you're done! How refreshing.

Mosa Lina is very elegant game with a good flow, bringing its perceived simplicity to the maximum while maximizing fun
The way it works is that at the beginning of game session you are given random set of levels and random set of items, and then you will be thrown randomly into one of these levels with 3 items from you set where you either win or die, until you get to the last level which will become the boss level.
While any given level with given items may not be really hard, the process of completing and switching levels is really fast so it's not something that you will focus on, instead the gameplay of Mona Lisa is more about exploration of the tools you have in the these infinite scenarios with different potential synergies.
The tools in these game are of course very fit for this goal. Each tool has usually quite a simple idea behind it, which combined with how all these tools are very interactable with the environment and you means that applications of each one are bigger than you might assume and while some of these are more direct and efficient for a given tool, considering that you at some point will be in a level where this direct application wont feasible you will be forced to explore other capabilities of the tools.
And theres simply a lot of these tools. There are super creative and super fun to play with in the very nice feeling physics system. Also worth to mention that while you character has very simple actions like walking and jumping, theres few intercations that enrich you options. Mainly slop jumps can allow you to quickly jump more you usually could and gain much more height, which is super satisfying to pull off and allows for additional intercations with tools.
All that said, main reward in this game would be a moment of bliss after using your item in never thought before way or simply in a way that's really satisfying in a given situation, all accompanied by pretty satisfying game feel in between finding these moments.
That's what I mean by elegancy, this game is perfect generator of fun solutions in very simplistic form, considering it's inspirations of immersive sims.
The second point is flow, and it's very important one. While playing with you tools is fun, the way you playing on more systemic levels really elevates your experience. While a game itslef suggest that it is hostile in some way, you wouldn't actually feel it in the game. randomness could easily cause frustruation, but if you die you quickly thrown to another level. Which means that you wouldn't be stuck on one level constatnly retrying, and when you get to it again you will be given a new set of tools to solve the level.
While it may seem annoying to some people that even if you could win with certain set of items but because of one mistake you wouldn't be able try again with the same set, for me it's for the best to just go by the flow and not thinking about previous attempts too much .
Basically, very fast rotation of levels and items doesn't allow for frustration to build up, but also having consistent bigger set of levels and items in each run still adds consistency where you could still retry the same levels with similarish sets of items. This all then concludes at a boss level, which is longer and also gives you access to more items. If you die you will be back there again and the level is usually harder because of its length, so it usually causes some frustrations, but that's given for a increased level of difficulty, and having only one such level for a session balances it out.
In the end, the very fun assortment of tools and levels with very good gameplay structure accompanying it makes the concept of random imsim very well executed.
As afternote, I decided to review this after playing the new update, and oh god it's amazing. New items blew my mind, never thought that this game can be even more fun and creative than it already was, only bad one I would consider the boot tool. I just cant find any good application for it, maybe i'm just bad but I don't vibe with it. A lot of new levels were added too, and idk if it was already in the game but at least it feels like rotating spike balls become more common and while they are really annoying they do create a lot of fun situtations to solve. Also music is really good, some of the tracks added are so good that i just after completing the level don't even go for a next and just listen to music instead.

what if mario was stupid and some of the levels were impossible, 10/10 i will be playing 50 more hours this game is absolutely amazing
its basically just a problem solving simulator where you have random tools to solve each problem and need to come up with some inventive solution, i wouldnt call it a puzzle game because puzzles have prebuilt solutions, and this is more you solving problems the game throws at you, and ones you create for yourself by messing up and getting the fruit right next to the edge of the map but it just wont go far enough to leave :(

This game is very good for passing time; the randomized selection of levels and tools means you'll always have a fresh scenario to try. There also aren't any unlocks, high scores, or long-term progression, so switching between devices/platforms is refreshingly frictionless. I bought a copy for my Switch too and it's really nice for when I'm away from my laptop :D

Whether alone or with friends, this game is endless fun! Very different from other games. The various abilities you get are so versatile and combinable, it's amazing and very entertaining. For the price, you can't go wrong.

This game is a lot of fun to play, both single player and co-op. It's silly fun but also incredibly rewarding when you actually solve a puzzle.

this game is quite litterally the best game on steam. you can grind till the end multiple times and not get bored. and then the music, the music is so good that i could listen to it all day and still want to hear more. its also a multiplayer game! which makes it SO much better. not to mention how good it is while playing solo. I have come to the end of mosa lina about five times already, and im still not bored. this game is just perfect in every way, shape, and form. 10/10 would still buy it if it was 100$

This game is a perfect combination of a roguelike and a puzzle game. There is no solution you get, only the solution you make.
Also, this game has frogs. 11/10

Almost at 3 hours with this game, which is the amount I force myself to play the impulse purchases I occasionally make when picking up other games. Mosa Lina is a fun game, but I don't think I would have told you that if I only played it the 10 or so minutes I originally gave it. It takes a while to grow on you. It has a philosophy its gently suggesting you approach the game in mind with, and I appreciate a game that makes you think. I recommend this quirky little game. I don't think I'll be called to play too much after those three hours are finally up, but who knows! It has stuck with me regardless.

One of my favourite puzzle experiences ever, the sheer variety of levels and tools, along with workshop support makes this game a genuinely incredible time. Seeing the amount of support the developer gives to the game after its initial release makes me look forward to seeing more.

Very addicting little game that provides an Amazing sandbox for immediate creativity with your given tools.
On top of this, it's perfect for both short form 10-15 minute sessions or longer 2-3 runs.
The devs have supported this game to such a nice degree, at the time of writing they just Doubled the amount of content - doubled the tools, doubled the stages, and over doubled the music tracks! And yes, everything is just as good as the base game, I've gone through it all at this point : )
The level editor is another spectacular piece - the player generated content is allowed to flourish so strongly here and it is very easy for these levels to fit right in.
On top of all of this, this game has great co-op! You can play round-robin, passing off to several players, or 2 players simultaneously.
Easily one of the best $5 purchases on steam - and frankly worth quite a bit more.

Such a unique game! There isn't a puzzle game with full random generation like this one and it is incredible! It's soooo well made and the dev still update it after years. I love it, you actually made a master piece here like Mona Lisa!

A unique game that's always fun, and frustrating! Levels seem impossible at first but with many replays comes wise and when you finally end up beating a world it feels good! Then you realize it's random and there's no progression.
It's a beautiful creation

Excellent 30 min puzzle game that rewards actual outside-the-box thinking as well as raw gaming skill. Never boring or repetitive, and only as frustrating as your own stubbornness.

Super creative platformer puzzler, best enjoyed with a friend. You will find many amusing ways to die/kill each other.
Despite the challenge, it's super low-stakes since you can't "lose". The vibes are pure shenanigans. Even still. It's super rewarding when you manage to use the equivalent of toothpicks and duct tape to overcome a level you've failed over and over. Well worth the $5.
Runs great on Deck.

one of the better genre deconstructions coming out now, mosa lina executes its goals with a self-confidence that is so personally understood it can come off as lazy. find myself coming back to it on my laptop in odd hours. sound design.

I love this game. I love this game so much.
Goal:
Mosa Lina has no definite goal; and Mosa Lina has no reward for getting to something that might be considered a goal. When asked about the lack of achievements in Mosa Lina, the current developer said that the game's reward is the enjoyment you get from it. The game doesn't give you a goal that forces you to come back (e.g. beating the story or 100%ing it); if you want to return to play the game, it is purely because you like the game.
Gameplay
This game is strictly random, in the best kind of way, and the game doesn't even hide it. You get three random items out of a pool of a few more items, out of a pool of many items. The game then puts you in a level, which aren't randomly generated, but there are so many that they might as well be. The items have no guarantee of working, but you might as well try. After you fail a few times, you get transported to this advice dimension, which tells you info on the game. One of the pieces of advice says how it is not certain that the tools you get will be able to get you through the level, which might feel unfair to some people, but think:
This game has near infinite replayability.
All of the items, all of the maps, and the somewhat recent introduction of workshop maps creates one of the best games to come to when bored. It scratches almost every itch, platforming, puzzle, and creativity, if you choose to create maps which I happen to enjoy. All of this seems great enough, but if you buy another copy for your friend for just 5 more dollars (even less if on sale!) you can do it all with a companion.
I hope you buy this game and enjoy it as much as I do.

Incredibly fun little game to hop into and play a few levels. The constant rotating/randomised tools make it a constant challenge to figure out what you can do to overcome the levels and how. It's a real treat to complete any level. Super satisfying

Wow, well, this is magnificent.
Mosa Lina is a physics-based platformer for chaotic problem solvers and improvisers. You play a set of nine small handcrafted levels randomly picked from a pool of hundreds. In each level you simply have to collect or eliminate the fruit and then get back to the warp. Getting to the fruit is one thing, getting back is another. Each level you're given three (often wacky and chaotic) tools, randomly chosen from a pool of nine for the current set of levels, which is in turn taken from a broader pool of 48 across the whole game. There's loads here and they all interact with the environment and other tools in weird and wonderful ways.
Sometimes a given level and tool combo will literally be impossible. Other times you'll get a combo that makes the level a breeze and undermines everything. Most of the time, however, it'll be somewhere in between and you'll have to improvise. There's only one way to find out. As the store page says, there's no 'lock and key' design here as in most (all?) immersive sims, hence the 'hostile interpretation'. I love it.
Anyway, if you fail a level, you move on to another in the current set which you haven't completed yet, so eventually you get to try again with different tools. The ninth and final level, which unlocks after beating eight, is always bigger and really tests you. But once that's done... that's it, you're 'done'. That's the core loop. When you go to quit, the game says 'no saves, no progress, only random' which I really appreciate these days.
The magic in Mosa Lina though, is in how short play sessions are and how wildly and unpredictably they pan out based on the levels and tools you get. I laugh a lot playing this, whether I succeed or fail, but it's so exciting to get different tool combos and wondering what they do and how you can make them work together. One minute it's a perfect Mission Impossible heist, the next it's a Looney Tunes slapstick comedy of errors. Just brilliant.
