Great roguelike deckbuilder, which I highly recommend to anyone who likes that kind of game. The gameplay is simple yet very strategic, the diffculty levels are well balanced, there's a lot of variety with the different ships, cards and artifacts we can choose from as we play. Also I really enjoy the funny dialogues between the characters. They're all very charming. The soundrack is great too. I honestly don't have any negative thing to say about this game. It's one of the best roguelikes I've played.

Love it! in terms of length of content, between luck be a land lord and slay the spire. Still kinda bite size, can be potentially beaten in a weekend. Despite being lighter, the lore really makes up for it. The basis of the game is pretty unique for a rogue like, but not too many of the mechanics were new in the rogue like world besides the missile mechanic with Issac. Really cute, loved the art and dialogue. Not too challenging overall, the hardest setting took one attempt. Though it feels like the perfect level of difficulty for replayability. Like if I ever want to pop in to do another round I could start at the hardest, after some time of not playing. Though saying this with a grain of salt as I do a lot of rogue likes. Overal has everything I want in a rogue like, lore, powerful draw mechanics, and scaled difficulty.

Great rogue-like deckbuilder, notably with the addition of being able to move your ship, which adds a puzzle element to the levels which feels very natural and intuitive. Game plays very smoothly with nice animations, and I didn't experience a single bug. The story elements add a really nice sense of immersion to what can easily be a bit of a number-crunchy, stale genre. I'm a big fan of the graphics and colour pallets used - everything feels belonging to the universe. Overall, extremely impressed :)

It's a Slay-The-Spire-like, but with unique mechanics like ship parts and movement. It has a lot of dialogue and interactions with the crew members. It's fun, cute, and also funny sometimes, with good music.

I'd been hesitant to pick up Cobalt Core for a while. Picked it up during a steam sale but still didn't play it. I always saw it mentioned on the rougelike subreddit. I finally installed and started playing. It's AMAZING! It's like shogun showdown and slay the spire had a love child. Then it was raised by it's aunt and uncle, FTL and into the breach. 10/10 would recommend to anyone

Cobalt Core is amazing in my opinion The combination of different ships and crew made each run feel different enough between runs, which is great for replayability. There's also daily runs, with a global & friend leaderboard, that let me do very random runs that are wildly different from standard play. Unfortunately there's no ability to create custom runs using the modifiers found in the daily challenges The music is amazing - it felt right for the theme of the game, and the boss themes especially had an added flair that made those encounters way more enjoyable The story was surprisingly engaging for this genre of game, and I greatly enjoyed the interactions between all the different characters. I wish there was a way to either reset the battle interactions between characters or view them separately, since they progress as you continue through different runs The way the game is set up encourages you to try different crew combinations in order to unlock crew and ships, as well as main story nodes. I liked having this as an incentive to keep using all the crew, especially since I formed a favorites ranking early on There's some good QoL available in the form of a Codex which contains a Progress report for all the available elements in the game, as well as a Logbook to keep track of all your win combinations (including the difficulty they were beaten at). This definitely incentivized me to go not only for 100% steam achievements, but also to continue playing to beat the game with all possible crew combinations. There's also a button in the run prep menu that lets you view all of the main story nodes that you've unlocked

9/10 very fun, card-building, strategy shooter. Pros: -Good card-builder. Lots of cards. Cards available are based on the ship and the individual crew that you pick. -Music is great with smooth transitions. -Good visuals. -Fast or slow game play. Not timed. You can take your time if you need to think or take a break. -Crew comments on your moves and can be very funny. They are also semi-responsive to each other. -Varied and funny cut-scenes and events. Cons: -Gets a little repetitive. You have to beat the game to get one memory, and each crew member needs three memories unlocked.

Very fun deckbuilder. You can use a lot of different strategies depending on your crew and what cards & artifacts get offered to you. Doesn't seem as replayable as games like Slay the Spire or Monster Train, but if you're a fan of the genre you will almost certainly get $20 of fun out of it.

Fantastic game. Chill music, CUTE aesthetic, charming / humorous dialogue, great story structure setting up a mystery and drip-feeding the truth. And of course the gameplay is excellent. Satisfying and very replayable, with varied characters & ships.

a very fun deckbuilder roguelike with cute critters and wonderful characters! as someone who doesn't play a lot of deckbuilders this was very accessible to me, and i had a lot of fun unlocking all the story beats. my only complaint is that after a while some of the runs can feel very samey, but i still greatly enjoyed my time with it.

Amazing game with inspirations from FTL, Into the Breach, TBOI, Slay the Spire and more but in a unique original package! The pixel art is awesome, the characters and their writing funny and full of personality.. Just awesome!

One of the best, if not, the best rogue like and deck builder game I have ever played. Game mechanics and cards/characters allow for a ton of variety and optimal builds while at the same time not being overly complex and very easy to understand. Also the Music is phenomenal

Some of the most fun runs I have ever had in any roguelike deckbuilding games. Game is not grindy at all and all the above normal difficulty levels are fair and challenging, some ship you unlock later is just super fun to dance around. What a delightful little space adventure.

Roguelike card battler but sci-fi spaceship fighting so that your positioning actually matters; with furry characters as different crewmates, each with a different specialty that banter and chat and interact with one another as well as the enemy. Amazing flavor, amazing gameplay for roguelike deckbuilders, very pleasant on the eyes, music is also pretty good, I can not find a single flaw to this game other than that some cards are just outright bad so one has no reason to use them. But since you're given plenty of card options, you can always ignore those, and it barely takes you out of the experience at all. Highly recommend to all roguelike fans and deckbuilder fans and all furry enthusiasts. Worth the price for sure.

Really fun turn-based spaceship combat roguelike with charming characters and a surprisingly-intriguing story. The memories collection is a pretty fun way for the game to reward winning multiple runs with each character, by giving a little more of the story each time. An excellent lil game.

I'm generally not much of a fan of deckbuilder roguelikes, so I've been very pleasantly surprised by how much I love this game. It's also impressive how much I enjoy it given how bad I am at it. It just feels so much more active and engaging in its gameplay than I expect from this sort of game, so it's a great reliable game to come back to when my ADHD is making it difficult to focus on most things. I feel like each cycle/run is a perfect length (long enough to enjoy the sense of progress over an individual run, short enough to avoid feeling drawn-out or making failure at a late stage too miserable) and I've been loving the learning experience of mastering each character's cards. The visuals are simple but extremely well done, with adorable character portraits and everything just feeling like it fits together very well. The soundtrack is genuinely one of my favourite video game OSTs and provides such a great sense of motivation as you play. The game runs perfectly on my very subpar laptop, it honestly doesn't seem like I'm running a game at all (no loud fan noises or overheating whatsoever, which is what happens for me even with most very simplistic games). Basically this is a new entry into a very beloved category of games for me: "games that made me really care about and enjoy an aspect of gameplay that I'd previously found kinda boring/awkward" (in this case deckbuilding and general strategy in combat) and I'm super happy to find something like this with a setting and style that I like.

Great soundtrack! Great art style and a fun rogue lite game doing something a bit different. Worth 20-40 of yours time to enjoy. Got it in the sales and came with another game. Crazy value for the price.

There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said about this game. In brief, it's an above-average card game mechanically (though a bit easy and limited in enemy/boss variety), with the greatest story, character, and heart of ANY card game on Steam, as well as one of the finest soundtracks of any Steam card game. In many ways, this is to roguelite card games what Hades is to roguelite action games. I implore anyone who buys, plays, and enjoys this game to stick it through to the true ending (all 18 memories unlocked). The true ending is heartfelt, satisfying, and has left a lasting impression on me and many others.

Cool story, fun characters, and a great introduction to deck-builders - this was my first game of the sort, and I never felt overwhelmed unless I had intentionally set myself up for a challenge. Definitely worth the cost!

Best way I can describe it is FTL x Slay the Spire I'm usually not a fan of rouge-lite deckbuilders, but this game managed to hit all the right notes for me. Great music, fun characters, a fair difficulty curve where it doesn't feel like your run was doomed from the start (usually, getting really bad luck on a run will still screw you over) and the unique mechanics and abilities each character brings to the table all come together to make one hell of a fun experience. Definitely worth a play or 10.

Truly innovates on the classic roguelike-deckbuilder formula in a number of ways. Extremely solid bones. Further, in a genre that often doesn't bother with narrative (or worse, does it quite heavy-handedly and poorly), I feel like the little dashes of character and narrative that appear really shine through and are quite well done without being overbearing. I don't think it has the really high nutso ceilings that some of its contemporaries have, but I've never been one for trying to break the game anyways. Highly Recommend.

I rarely write reviews but Cobalt Core deserves it. Steam recommended this game to me as I play a lot of Slay the Spire. You can see a lot of influence from STS, but enough new mechanics are present to avoid it feeling like a clone. You're looking at a mashup of STS (similar deck building and terminology), FTL (random events, shops, pathing across a galaxy sector) and Crying Suns (pixel art, music, rich story). It really works. The quality of production is excellent. The entire thing is just 'cute'. It's just supremely good fun.

Can't recommend this game enough, easily my favorite in years. Worth every minute. Check out the modding scene too, it's impressively good! Most of that lives on NexusMods but there's a fair few in dev on the discord as well, lots of great community there too. I don't know how I could possibly describe how much I love this game... so I won't. :smuggins:

Developers have all but abandoned what could have been an awesome game. - Fun at first, but quickly repetitive - Not enough variety in cards - (what led me to this review) Highly disappointing unlocks on additional ships. I thought the "unlock this ship after you win 10 runs" reward, which I did on hard difficulty, would be a fun ship. It was the most excruciatingly painful gaming experience I've had in years finally playing with that ship. It sucks so bad. I really enjoyed this game for what I got out of it, but the sheer amount of letdown given my invested time is why I have to warn others.

As card game enthusiast and furry I cant recommend this game enough. The positioning mechanic is elegant and in ludonarrative harmony with dogfighting in space. Avoiding damage gives me dopamine. I love each character with my entire heart they make me laugh and I want to unlock all their stories so they can make me cry. I give it 4/4 hooves (it would be 5/4 but I have yet to see a horse so until then the devs must settle for the theoretical maximum)

I got this game due to the Overwhelmingly Positive rating and a recommendation that I saw on a forum. It's not a bad game, but far from the cornerstone games of this genre. There is a severe lack of content in this game. There's 3 bosses, two of which have slight variations. There are about 3 events? Again, with slight variations to attempt to make them seem like more. After 5-10 hours, you've seen the bulk of the game and the rest is just grinding repetitive content to finish the main story.

too long for the level of complexity it has. i only got 10 memories out of 18? 19? and already feel like i've seen it all. neat game otherwise. also the hardest difficulty doesn't feel that much different from the lowest one.

I love "From hell's heart B" my life will not be complete until i have a whole deck of "From hell's heart B" and jupiter drones at the ready with piercing. Eunice will never leave my team, and I will make my ship as dysfunctional as possible but what about homing missiles? wont you die? and to that i say "fuck it. we ball"
Slay The Spire With Ships
A great game to spend your free time and when you don't know what else to play. OOTB you will get:

8 pilots with their own sets of cards (you choose 3)
5 types of ships
4 types of difficulties
in addition, there are mods where you will get different sets of pilots, ships, and enemy types So.. yeah. the game has some replayability value for it it usually takes me around 30 minutes to finish one round (provided i didn't die) so it is a good game to play during my break. Cobalt Core is a geat fusion of tactical positioning, card-based combat, and roguelite structure, a hybrid that feels both fresh and thoughtfully crafted. Imagine Into the Breach colliding with Slay the Spire in a spaceship, and you're close to the vibe. The core loop is built around a clever movement system and crew-based decks, offering a depth of strategy that's different from most of the games found in the very crowded deckbuilding roguelite genre. The original soundtrack sets the tone perfectly, and the dialogue adds just enough charm to make each 30-minute run feel like a complete, character-driven journey. My first run was exceptional, between the novelty of the mechanics and the vibe of the dialogs, the music, the characters, I was immediately hooked. Where Cobalt Core stumbles slightly is in long-term variety. After a handful of runs, patterns start to emerge: the same enemy types, the same pool of upgrades, and boss fights that lose their punch due to repetition. It doesn’t derail the experience, but it does make the game feel less endlessly replayable than titans like Slay the Spire or The Binding of Isaac. That said, this critique stems from a place of genuine enthusiasm—the gameplay is so strong, I just wanted more of it. Cobalt Core stands out in a crowded genre by daring to do something new, and for that alone, it’s well worth your time.
