Using precise controls, the player must navigate a maze of various obstacles to reach an exit point and advance to the next stage. Contact with an obstacle means instant death, and the player is forced to resume the level from it's beginning. (The first two Oddworld games are aptly analogous in this regard.) A successful run of a given level will take the player between as little as a few seconds, to no more than a few minutes. There are places of safety in most levels where one can rest to take careful note of their surroundings, if they must, so a "speed run" approach is not entirely necessary for novices; albeit a fair measure of celerity is nonetheless required, and one should still expect to fail quickly and often. The game is structured into four worlds, which are each comprised an equal number of stages (a dozen or so), with a boss in the final stage of each world. All levels, including the bosses, are very well planned and a joy to play. It will likely take only about four hours to complete all the levels of each world on the standard difficulty, excluding bonus levels and challenges. At the time of this review, I've defeated the final boss, played the early levels over again, and completed all the bonus stages of world one, which are unlocked upon achieving trophies on all levels in that world. As you progress through the game, you will unlock a few new upgrades that can then be employed in earlier stages. Other stages unlock the use of mechanisms within levels that extend the use of said capabilities. In certain particular levels, there are alternative exit points which reward the player with special computer chips. At this time, I have not obtained any of these chips and am uncertain of their function. Some players may find its challenging nature frustrating at first, but with more familiarity will soon become both proficient and comfortable; and the difficulty is ultimately dependent on the level at which the player chooses to engage it. The fun of this game comes through the feeling of reward one obtains through the successful completion of stages, and then through the mastery of those stages in the achievement of "perfect runs," which award the player with trophies. A "perfect run" requires one to not only complete the sage under a certain time, but also to collect all of the golden bolts scattered throughout that stage. Final point: aesthetic and atmosphere. Both are phenomenal, and perfectly tailored for this type of game. The music, also, while not particularly edifying, is exciting, mostly pleasant, and appropriate to the game's pace. In sum, this game rewards persistence and perseverance. I have found the short while I've spent with it supremely enjoyable, and deem it to be a wholly worthwhile distraction. P.S.: This game contains absolutely no offensive content, and is suitable for all ages. However, children under the age of about 8 are likely to find it too difficult.

A short, sweet, and masterfully crafted platformer. The first time I saw some pictures of it in a pixel art group, I immediately fell in love. I can't stress it enough how amazing the pixel art is. If you love games like Celeste or Super Meat Boy, this is a must try. I especially liked the infinite dash, because it gave the game a unique twist and new movement options. I don't think I have the patience to beat every level flawless, but it is a testimony of the game's engaging mechanics that I wanted to unlock every bonus and secret level. I am just so happy that I've played this game, thank you for creating it.

This game was an absolute blast to go through. It's challenging but rewarding. The plot is simple but very fun. Controlling ZX is smooth although I had situations where the dash seemingly went the wrong way but that's probably on me. Some levels were frustrating to me but that's because of the tight execution needed for some flawless runs which are achieved by getting all collectibles and beating the level within a time limit. The music was AMAZING! It felt adventurous and very fitting to the locations presented. The bonus levels are fun but the one with wavy electric cells was driving me crazy. If I were to give this game a rating score it would probably be a 9/10, thanks for making a great game! P.S. I attempted the Insane Mode a couple times but I don't think I'll clear it anytime soon. Made it to the second half of the third world and fumbled the bag. Fun idea for a challenge.

This is such a fun little precision platformer, with enough of a character of its own to stand out from the crowd. The movement is excellent - I especially enjoy the dash - and the controls tight and responsive. There’s 52 short, action-packed levels, and it has plenty to offer aside from the main story mode: speedrunning challenges, collectibles, bonus levels to unlock, and secrets to discover. The music is catchy as heck, and the pixel art detailed and vibrant. The story is light, playful and fun, and the whole package just the right amount of cute (for me). If you enjoy precision platformers, you can’t go wrong with this delightful wee one.

One of my favorite platformers in recent memory, absolutely recommended. Beautiful pixel art, fantastic soundtrack, super precise controls, and just the right amount of challenge - what's not to love? I have absolutely nothing negative to say about BZZZT. Even going for the time trial + full collectible goals was a delight because of the bite-sized nature of the levels and how quick and easy it is to restart.
Rating: 9/10
A short, fairly challenging precision platformer with smooth controls and fun mechanics. The end of the game I'd probably put at a difficulty level comparable to The Summit or Core in Celeste. The collectibles are all pretty fun to get, and the time trials aren't difficult enough for me to want to rip my hair out to get. The game's visuals are all done in the style of beautiful 16-bit pixel-art, and the soundtrack was pretty good too. The game is absolutely worth $12 for what you get, and is especially a steal at $3.59 or in a bundle.
