My first kneejerk reaction upon seeing this DLC, was possibly the same as at least a few others.
"My pet dungeon? PAID?! But it was a free little sandbox mode in the second dungeon keeper! why make us pay for it?!"
Well, I am here to let you know that it is not entirely the same. And for those new to the entire thing, i will do a rundown as well.
My pet dungeon, adds a series of new levels with interesting new ideas. Two things that are the staple of each MPD level, are the toybox and the spawner. The toybox here is an impenetrable room filled with 1 of every hero type, with a spinner in the middle that can change there level up or down. You can pick up any hero from this room and put them wherever you wish.
The spawner, is an indestructable portal. You are given three controls for it, you can spawn one wave. You can spawn continuous waves (Going up a level per spawn until maxed at 10) and you can adjust the level on your own.
The point of these dungeons is simple, have fun. There are no timers, you are not attacked unless you will it, and other than a few restrictions at times there is nothing preventing you from making a dungeon any way you see fit.
The other side of this coin are the challenges, some levels restrict creatures, others restrict money or building area. The point is to build your dungeon with the limits and reach a certain number of points to move on. To help you there are objectives scattered about.
Anything from find neutral creatures to blow up every bit of brimstone in the level, these give you bonus points to help you advance faster, and sometimes resources that you need. Each level also has 3 "Achievements" if you will, beat it, get a certain high score, and beat all objectives.
Other than that, any dungeon themes you have unlocked are usueable, as are color schemes and workers. Its not meant to be overly challenging its just meant to be a fun little diversion.
But, there is one more thing and as of this writing i have not gotten to test it, when you beat all the dungeons you gain access to a "god mode" that the game constantly teases, this seems to be the ultimate reward, allowing you to reshape anything and everything in a dungeon (Limited to Skirmish and Sandbox levels.) to your whim.
In conclusion, for the price this is certainly not bad, if you are a fan of the game i would recommend it. If you are just a bit of a casual fan, or are mainly in the game for strategy or challenging gameplay. I would still recommend it, just not as highly. Maybe waiting until it goes on sale, i personally put 4 straight hours into it when i first got it.
