My first kneejerk reaction upon seeing this DLC, was possibly the same as at least a few others. "My pet dungeon? PAID?! But it was a free little sandbox mode in the second dungeon keeper! why make us pay for it?!" Well, I am here to let you know that it is not entirely the same. And for those new to the entire thing, i will do a rundown as well. My pet dungeon, adds a series of new levels with interesting new ideas. Two things that are the staple of each MPD level, are the toybox and the spawner. The toybox here is an impenetrable room filled with 1 of every hero type, with a spinner in the middle that can change there level up or down. You can pick up any hero from this room and put them wherever you wish. The spawner, is an indestructable portal. You are given three controls for it, you can spawn one wave. You can spawn continuous waves (Going up a level per spawn until maxed at 10) and you can adjust the level on your own. The point of these dungeons is simple, have fun. There are no timers, you are not attacked unless you will it, and other than a few restrictions at times there is nothing preventing you from making a dungeon any way you see fit. The other side of this coin are the challenges, some levels restrict creatures, others restrict money or building area. The point is to build your dungeon with the limits and reach a certain number of points to move on. To help you there are objectives scattered about. Anything from find neutral creatures to blow up every bit of brimstone in the level, these give you bonus points to help you advance faster, and sometimes resources that you need. Each level also has 3 "Achievements" if you will, beat it, get a certain high score, and beat all objectives. Other than that, any dungeon themes you have unlocked are usueable, as are color schemes and workers. Its not meant to be overly challenging its just meant to be a fun little diversion. But, there is one more thing and as of this writing i have not gotten to test it, when you beat all the dungeons you gain access to a "god mode" that the game constantly teases, this seems to be the ultimate reward, allowing you to reshape anything and everything in a dungeon (Limited to Skirmish and Sandbox levels.) to your whim. In conclusion, for the price this is certainly not bad, if you are a fan of the game i would recommend it. If you are just a bit of a casual fan, or are mainly in the game for strategy or challenging gameplay. I would still recommend it, just not as highly. Maybe waiting until it goes on sale, i personally put 4 straight hours into it when i first got it.

In case here was any doubt that this is the true succesor to dungeon keeper. Btw if you played my pet dungeon in DK2 this is way better in allowing you to costumize your dungeon. Congrats to the developer for making such and awesome game altough it lags a bit in my pc.

Don't be fooled: This is not the "My Pet Dungeon" mode from Dungeon Keeper. THAT'S ALREADY IN THE BASE GAME. I've seen so many people ranting and raving on the forums about charging for a sandbox mode, but what they're looking for is the Skirmish and Sandbox menu. You can build the dungeon of your dreams there without paying anything extra. This dlc is worth putting a price tag on, in my opinion. It adds a slew of brand new levels, this time focused on a more relaxed playstyle. Enemies won't march in waves upon your dungeon (unless you tell them to,) and there are various little puzzles and secret rooms hidden throughout each level. Overall, I do recommend this dlc. It's a nice break from conquering your enemies in the main campaign, and we do get to hear some more excellent voice work from Richard Ridings.

I am a casual gamer and I find this adds plenty more things to do weither you want to slowly advance or quickly advance, you have the power to make it as hard/easy as you want. The plus side to this is the narrator is there with you all the way until you want to feed him to your baku.

I initially bought this DLC simply because the base product + the Heart of Gold expansion were great, thinking that this would be decent for coming back to play the game again yet not on par with the rest of the content, but it was actually really good! It's effectively the Home Realm, except with a lot more in the actual realm to work with. There are eight levels, each with some limits and objectives, with no rush to complete anything. You want to crank up your minions to level 10? Drop a squad of humans into your dungeon immediately and convert them into your army? Destroy the powers of good with a funky beat and Michael Jackson as a Brony? You got it! It has all of the flavor of either of the more traditional campaigns, yet much more relaxed so that you can just click away and let your minions feast, as well as having new interesting ways to use existing abilities, like Posession challenges. It's just as much fun as the base and Heart of Gold campaigns, with none of the franticness of getting your face smashed in. Even more humor than normal, what with there being 50 shades of chunders, as well as dancing disco unicorns, yet still having well designed maps. Definitely worth buying if you're already a fan of the game.

Fun and diverse levels each with their own unique challenges. Well, not real challenges, because you can take it easy, there is no time restraint and no need to rush anything. Nothing really new. There are mutaros like god mode, but this only unlock when you finish all levels. This DLC is a good addition to the base game.

A great idea for a DLC. I tend to like a more chill, build my dungeon and see what happens kind of experience, and this takes that and gives you a campaign for it. Really happy that this part of the War for the Overworld audience was considered in the making of this DLC.

My favourite of the three paid expansions. Be evil, at your own pace. There's plenty of levels here and enough variety that they don't seem repetitive. As a bonus, there's a lot more replay value here than it the base game. I especially like the last level, which allows for a massive base and lots of fun Possession Challenges.

This is what War for the Overworld should be like in a first place. Nice relaxing gameplay (which you can make a lot harder if you set constant waves of enemies), building your dungeon and also various fun objectives making you searching through the whole dungeon, exploring, recruiting more interesting creatures.... Great!

The best game mode returns! The My Pet Dungeon levels are great. The objectives are clever and interesting too. If you like a more relaxed Colony Sim style of play than this is what you are looking for.

I understand that there have to be objectives, but I'm very disappointed to see that almost all of the levels look like they were cut from the main campaign and involve conquest - not 'building the dungeon of your dreams'. In many cases building the dungeon is the last thing to be concerned with, and you can complete all of them without even having to bother with the dungeon, save only for attracting appropriate creatures. Since Prophecy can be unlocked instantly in all of them, and mana is based entirely on map territory owned, within five minutes you can know exactly what you're up against and what to counter with. This in turn enables exactly the above. You can, of course, just build - the heroes don't bother to attack unless you trigger an attack wave. But if you want the points to complete a level you either just have to spam waves, or conquer your enemies. Worth it only if you want the unlockables.

If you loved dungeon keeper and you love this type of sim, get this. Fantastic game, pays sufficient homage to the originals without losing its own identity. A must.

This is like the sandbox mode from Dungeon Keeper, with some challanges added. If you liked the free build mode without preassure, you should give it a go.
OVERVIEW
Overall fun, especially if you enjoy tinkering with layouts in the Home Realm and want extra objectives. There's no immediate danger, and I had my fun spending the first 15 minutes tagging blocks and hallways before actually building anything.
(+) Surprisingly Varied Objectives
Each map has its own theme of objectives e.g resource management, empire units only, no spawns (prison breakout or torture-conversions only). The last level comes with "Posession Challenges" which has a novelty to it.
(-) General Excessive Memory Usage
To the point, I'm not sure how they got 4 GB as the minimum and 8 GB as the maximum; I'd rather say the minimum is 8 GB and 10+ GB being recommended. Played on Ubuntu 18.04 bionic. War for the Overworld isn't a lightweight game to begin with (out of all games I have, it's probably the one that takes the longest time to start up). If the base game's campaign missions are about 40 minutes long on average- ~10-30 minutes if you're going for the speed achievements and 1+ hour if you're really taking your time- then the latter playstyle you're looking at 2-3 hours per Pet Dungeon map. There's nothing wrong in that except for the game's usage of memory which becomes a problem in long games. Each session uses up my RAM (8 GB)* then fills swap (another 2 GB). Overall, a terrible experience to have a system stall and have alt-tab register 10 seconds late. * The other applications running being a BitTorrent client (2.1%), music player (1.9%), IRC client (0.5%), text editor (0.2%); I can maybe squeeze out another 5% if I could run the game without running Steam. Generally, WFTO has 85%+ of available memory to itself whenever I play. * The game likes to drop the frame rate down to ~10 fps when opening the ESC menu and the controls tab.
* The First Time I have Crashed the Game
By spending the first 5 minutes of the map spamming Prophecy on Snowhope, entirely revealing the rogue dungeon, but having nothing built yet.
Ending Notes
If you want to shit on my toaster, for barely being able to run a game from the current decade here are my specs. CPU: AMD FX-6350 Six-Core @ 6x 3.9GHz GPU: Radeon RX Vega RAM: 7989 MiB Maybe one day I will at least be able to enjoy this game with at least 60 fps on a 144 Hz monitor by either (a) the public pointing out some nonsense I overlooked or (b) throwing money at a better rig and feeding the beast that is unoptimized software.

An actual amazingly fun campaign that challenges your creativity in a sandbox environment. Lots of fun.

Doesn't solve any of the problems of the main campaign. It's just as obnoxious.
