Bit.Trip VOID is a short game that is reasonably challenging and fun for what is it.
Although, that being said, it feels more like a free casual browser game that someone will play to kill time during a dull day at the computer rather than something to invest your time and money into.
Caveat Emptor I guess, it depends what you are into as a gamer whether you prefer short arcade style games or epic adventures. If you are the former then you'll probably get a kick out of this game, however, I will say: beware of the 7.99 price-tag vs the amount of content this game has to offer.

A mesmerising game, both audially and visually. Highly addictive, simple gameplay premise that's played with in increasingly creative and surprising ways as you delve further in. The interface and general aesthetics are like nothing I've seen before it, scores, multipliers etc simply drift along vaguely in the background, barely noticeable, even mode changes are subtle enough that you might not realise when it happens at first. It's my personal favourite in the BIT.TRIP series, an overall enveloping experience.

Third game in the series.
This time you are a sphere that can move around screen. You grow as you consume black dots. Black dots must not be missed. But you also have to avoid white dots, so you have a button to reset your size back to default. White dots also do that, but you get punished anyway. Pretty original idea.
But well, not satisfying, sorry. Three long levels. At least they brought in checkpoint. I thought that they will be able to make me feel good playing this game with music like they seemingly started to learn with CORE but eh, I just didn't care here.

Bullethell. Dodge white pixels, collect black. Black makes you larger, white resets you to normal size. Collect too many white, or dodge too many black; and it's game over.
Maybe the most addicting of the Bit.Trip series.

If you've played Bit.Trip Beat, you're pretty much guessing what to expect (brutally difficult exercises in black pixel collection, reaction speed, and pattern recognition). This time, you move a circle around and avoid white beats while collecting black beats! Also there's some subtext about the three elements of the personality (the Id, Ego, and Superego), but nobody will really care about that.

Bit.Trip Void is the third entry in the Bit.Trip series, taking a much different gameplay approach not seen in many games. As with the other Bit.Trip games, it has its pixel based graphics and chiptune style music. However, this game's aesthetic is more chilled out with the backgrounds being mostly solid colors and gradients and the music having a more relaxed beat. The story brings Commander Video with other people who look like him and interacting some kind of aura or ball that makes them bigger or smaller. That brings us to the gameplay, which indeed revolves around a kind of ball.
On the screen is a black circle that can be controlled around. The goal is to get black blocks and avoid white ones. There are different patterns to react to with differing amounts of black and white blocks and some powerups that will be useful to finish some sections. The end bosses tend to reference other Arcade games from the 80s and fit in with the gameplay. In a way, this game feels like Katamari as the goal is to collect objects and in doing so, increases your circle's size. There is a button that allows you to reset your circle to the smallest, which is important to avoid white blocks or move faster. Hitting white blocks can make the ball smaller, but you do lose some points that way.
This game tends to be easier than the last 2 in the series, which is evident by the more relaxed style rather than the more energetic visual style of previous games. Simply controlling a black circle to collect other things and avoiding white lends some precise player control like in platformers or shoot em ups. The rhythm element is still in this game where collecting black squares make a sound, but the player has more control and can somewhat vary how each set of sounds play. Regardless, the unique gameplay makes this fun yet relaxing to play. That isn't to say this game is very easy, since the game does throw some challenging things that may cause a game over.
Bit.Trip Void is overall less energetic to give some relaxed gameplay with a slightly easier difficulty. The idea of collecting black while avoiding white is simple, yet lends itself to some complex patterns to tackle and has some difficult challenges that can appear. With a simple yet original gameplay idea and more mellow design, Void is both fun to play and not as taxing on reaction time while having some moments of difficulty to mix things up.

BT Void is basically a rhythm-based bullet hell game. You do not have any attacks, you can only shrink and grow while you move around, and you have to be maintaining a positive score to grow and thus to use some of the abilities that growing unlocks like repulsion.
You lose points if you are hit by white projectiles, but also if you miss black projectiles. Because there are often large portions of the screen that are cut off/unsafe, you can often automatically lose levels because you picked the wrong side of a wall. If the game telegraphs the correct side, I haven't figured out how, so so far levels feel entirely like they're trial and error.
I don't enjoy this game.

Get it now while it is on sale, this game is great but you might not want to spend the full 10 bucks for it because it's so short of a game, but it's still a great experience, so grab it right now while it's on the spring sale!

The game offers some pleasant graphics and really vibrant colours, although some ugly glitches here and there, it is pleasant all the same
The game does suffer with some repetitiveness at certain areas of the game but a fun game nontheless
BIT.TRIP VOID overall, however, is a fun game to play, yet sometimes flawed, casual game to play!

this game trained 9 yr old's me eye coordination, on just a nunchuck and a wii remote
and i personally owe alot to this game lol, had i not play it id be the terrible noob i still am at most games today, just miles worse
this is the only game in the bit trip series, that you can learn something from it, and take it with you in memory as you play future games.

As far as Bit.Trip games go, this one is quite entertaining as one would expect though more abstract and probably shorter than its counterparts.
It continues their trend of having a new ryhthm-based gameplay mechanic. Sadly, the way in how it is presented may seem confusing at first and probably won't come back in the near future. What's more, as with other games in the saga, in some instances the replayabilty is almost mandatory in order to remember how to get through them.
Nonetheless, it stands out from the rest with its presentation, particularly its modes and how it displays its score. More so, due to some quite old events at the time of writing this review, it is also the easiest game to complete achievement-wise, which is not to say its difficulty is much lower in comparison.
All in all, considering its price I'd say it's worth a try at the very least.

I can appreciate the way the BIT.TRIP games try to change things up and make small games out of novel ideas. They're basically lengthened mini-games with steep learning curves and high difficulty.
My problem with the games has always been that at their worst (Runner, Core), they are memorization affairs where the challenge lies in trial and error. Otherwise the games typically have ideas that are unique, but clunky in their execution or with some drawbacks (Fate). Void falls somewhere in the latter.
Void is a very simple game: you are a circle that can move all over the screen, and have to dodge incoming white dots whilst collecting black dots. The white dots and black dots tend to come in as pairs or in patterns. Collecting black dots increases your size, but also increases your score. You can always 'release' the black dots and fall back to a smaller circle, which allows you to move and dodge better. After all, a huge black circle on the screen can't dodge all the incoming white dots if it can't even move.
It's clearly a score-attack based game. I can appreciate the unique concept, and unlike the other games this one relies less on memorizing patterns and more on an enjoyable balance of just reacting and moving whilst managing a want for a higher score with the need to dodge. I can appreciate the balancing act.
I actually like it a little more than the other BIT.TRIP games because of that, but the easier game is also lacking in substance. Its an example in something that is interesting on paper but turns out to be nothing more than busy-work in-game. It's just not enjoyable or enticing enough to even finish. Ironically some sort of drawback or ability when coming back down in size would've provided some interesting pull and push with the game mechanics.
The actual challenge and possibilities in how large you can get are finite, due to the incoming white dots and the impossibility of dodging them past a certain size. So the highest score possible has a ceiling anyway. It's not infinite possibility.
Not bad, but also not enjoyable.

TLDR: Bullet Hell game without shooting. Dodge the white bullets while eating the black ones. Manage your hitbox by shrinking your ship on the regular. Bland and chaotic and unsatisfying
Operating the shrinking mechanic just removes your current sprite and spawns the small one, while in movement especially it can be very unintuitive to guess where you will spawn and since you often have tight margins you will be in an impossible situation where you can either hit a while bullet and shrink, then on shrink be disoriented and eat another white bullet, or attempt to dodge a bulletrain, shrink on purpose in motion and still eat a white bullet due to disorientation.
There are little scripted moments where you are obviously meant to shrink on regular intervals due to strict limitations and the bullets that are eaten do produce a blip sound but I would hardly consider the thing to be musical.
The trippy effects of getting higher schores and being bumped to a higher mode have been toned down in comparison to other games leaving that feature feeling underdevelopped and pointless as well and it merely acts as a health buffer between getting hit and the game over.
Conclusion: Not much that I enjoyed here, additionally I had one crash to desktop while first loading and after entering scores the game prompts you to press A but the correct key to press is START on the xbox360 pad. The kind of little details that further give a low effort impression on the title as a whole. Removed local content permanently and hiding from library due to saturation of high quality bullet hell games already in collection.

Another great entry in the BIT.TRIP series. Unlike BEAT and CORE, where you had to hit all beats, you must collect the black beats with your "Void" while avoiding the white beats. Your Void grows as you collect beats, and you have to decide for yourself when to bank those collected- in case you hit a white beat and lose everything.
Unlike CORE, I recognized specific retro games that the game was paying homage to: Level 2 references [spoiler] Pac-Man [/spoiler], while Level 3 references [spoiler] Space Invaders [/spoiler] and [spoiler] The World's Hardest Game [/spoiler] (if you can call that retro).
The game is challenging, yet not as much as CORE- I managed to complete VOID in fewer than 18 months!
The visuals and music in the game are more sparse and less memorable than previous games. However, it seems suitable for a game with "Void" in the title. The tunes are still great, and there are some memorable images; my favourite is a segment where the white beats dance like a church organ.
A game well worth playing. 8/10

TL;DR Below.
I love the BIT.TRIP series but for many reasons this title failed to satsify my rhythmic needs. The music compared to the runner series, Beat series, and Core, seems to be all beat/bass and no melody (In my opinion). There is no exact or specific time you're required to collect dots which kind of defeats the purpose of a rhythm game. The game is by no means horrible, but it does not fit into the category of rhythm games.
There is also no indication or anything that notifies the player that they're near the next phase, near nether, or shows them their total score... why may I ask? The BIT.TRIP Runner series had it, so did the Beat series, why not Void?
As for controls, BIT.TRIP Void is the one title in the series where you are not required to tap a certain key to the beat of the music. Instead, you are required to MOVE in order to collect the beat, regardless of whether it is to the music. This makes the whole concept of "rhythm" obsolete, as you are not required to collect a dot in time to the beat of the music. (There is no consistency). The game doesn't allow you to choose how you control your orb. It's fixed on keys. Being a rhythm game, precision is a vital component. There are times in the game where getting a dot requires you to be pinpoint accurate. Not being able to fluently move is a big no-no for rhythm games where you are able to move freely. Even just a tap of a key can cause you to overshoot ending your combo and possibly even sending you into the nether... how would you know? There's no health bar!
Being able to use the mouse would've definitely turned the tables around, although it wouldn't help with the musical aspect of the game.
Long story short, BIT.TRIP Void isn't a horrible game, but for a rhythmic game, it does a horrible job trying to accomplish what it set out to achieve. It is tagged as "Rhythmic" but I would not call it that at all, but rather survival. I find myself focusing more on surviving than enjoying the music as I cannot or can barely hear it. Since the game doesn't require you to pick up dots on a constant beat, you can just run around picking up black orbs that are in safe reach regardless of listening to the actual music. I would not call this rhythmic as there is no rhythm you're creating. As opposed to the other series, where you HAVE to be rhythmic in order to successful pass the levels.
TL;DR: Interesting game, but bad controls and no engaging rhythmic music that actually requires you to be rhythmic.
In my honest opinion, just get the other titles, they are way better and are actually rhythmic.

This is by far the easiest and shortest of the BIT.TRIP games but it's still pretty fun. The concept is unique and the style is definitely something that takes a moment to get used to, but overall it's a good time. For anyone that's a perfectionist or wants more leaderboard style of competition, this one is definitely the way to go over the other games since your aversion to risk couple with dodging skills can wrack up points beyond a "perfect" run in the other games.

Easily my least favorite of the BIT.TRIP saga. Didn't know what I was supposed to achieve or what exactly the game's objectives are beyond acquiring the black squares and hitting SPACE whenever you're about to interact with the white ones. Okay soundtrack at best. Seriously, I think this entry was running out of the steam for the saga as a whole.
You could at least freely roam around.

As I have been playing through the Bit.Trip games I have really been underwhelmed by what I have "played". This game was by far the most underwhelming.
In the other Bit.Trip games that I have played they have usually been bad ports, bad controlling, and bad looking games but each Bit Trip game just seems to be bad in one respect while being tolerable in others. If the studio that produced these games and that overlooked the production of these games had just taken the all the good portions of each game they could have made a really great game.
Now that I think about it, they already have.
If you are intrigued by the Bit.Trip "franchise" I would recommend just getting Bit.Trip Beat, and the Bit.Trip Runner games. The other games aren't worth your time. Bit.Trip FLUX is another good game, but make sure you don't buy it on PC.
