Although I'm positive about this game, I still can't recommend it to everyone. I think, without certain experience, you won't get it completely. And please don't get me wrong, I'll explain. Let me tell you something about a morning in my childhood (I know, WTF STFU boomer, whatever). It was like any nice spring Monday of the village that reminds you of the coming holiday when you already started your countdown to the end of the school. By that time early raspberries in the garden were pink and almost eatable - not a matter to worry about for a raspberry fan. I wiped off the morning dew, did my usual fruit grazing and went to school. By the time I returned around noon, all the leaves of our walnut trees in the garden became curled, turned yellow and started to fall. By the evening all the trees fell into a leafless coma for weeks, like during winter. My mother told me to not to eat anything from the garden, not even after washing the veggies. Acid rain, chemical pollution, crop dusting helicopter failure that emptied its complete load above us to minimise the impact - you name it, all happened before. The biggest petrol processing factory was just 20 kilometers away, everything was possible. It took more than a week that the Chernobyl nuclear accident was officially announced and admitted. We lived in an another country but way too close. The following year I showed early marks of some sort of autoimmune disorder, still unknown to this day. Ten years later my joints started to degrade, giving me hell that returned in waves. Still there is no reason to complain as despite the pain I can still walk and move freely. Regardless, every 5 years something starts to go wrong and it does in weird ways. As of 2025 I'm still alive, still can do my thing that I'd call a rather happy life - but I live it with permanent health issues and without a thyroid gland. I am lucky but a lot of people around my age passed due to weird diseases that have no reason to attack young people. Good friends among them. I must know why. So, a game or a film that includes documentary elements of the place where it all happened has a special meaning to me. Not necessarily a positive one. It just opens a zone where I can wonder about things and people gone. Stalker (the game) did not provide it to me. Chernobilyte did. The game itself feels a little undercooked here and there. It has many small sides considering game mechanics, stability and graphics. At places it looks absolutely jaw-dropping and film-like. At other places visuals look fuzzy and dated. The game could catch the atmosphere quite well, though. It delivers a little different play from what you would suspect as it is rather some sort of tactical game with RPG / exploration / base building elements where you work on a long-term plan of a heist and make decisions on the way that affects the final mix towards the conclusion. It is also a sort of investigation that leads you through a sci-fi story where you can also take a peek on the life behind the iron fence. It is not a HUGO award winner story but still makes sense and it's more than a lot of sci-fi stories do these days. Nothing to complain really. I have to mention here that the Russian voiceover is awesome. The English, not so much. I can understand both but if you can't, choose Russian with subtitles. It is better even if some of it is overacted. As for the locations, they are either interesting and limiting in a way. As a whole it works I think but if you enjoy game mechanics rather than atmosphere, others from the genre (for example Fallout 4) can give you a better experience in my opinion. So, as for an outro: Chernobilyte has merits as well as flaws. It definitely will not work for everyone but I absolutely recommend it for people who are interested in the story of the most severe nuclear accident in the history. I'd recommend playing it after watching the HBO TV series and documentaries. The game can add other details and explanations about the whole dark age of its kind that fortunately gone by today and hopefully will never happen again in the future.

▪ This is really beautiful game. Visuals are amazing, regardless of post-apocalyptic genre, it reminds me background of Metro-game series. Supports pre-compilation (Preparing necessary resources in advance before start the game), so you can play smoothly even on low-spec PC. Story is about the Main character Igor and his companion being sent to investigate a scientific facility that studies Chernobylite, but they're injured due to step in of Black Stalker. Igor, whose memories of the past are still uncertain, Sets up a shelter and prepares a plan again. Begins to find clues about the past and new companion by following voices of his wife Tatyana that hears, and begins to regain his memories. Relationship between companion can improve or worsen as you progress through each storyline. I'm trying to maintain good relationships for ending. I recommend you if want to focus on the story or are interested in great visuals and farming.

Chernobylite is a survival game with crafting elements set in a sci-fi alternative Chernobyl exclusion zone. The Ukrainian devs have used 3D-scanning to painstakingly re-create Chernobyl exclusion zone in photorealistic detail.
What I liked
The overall region is divided into smaller (~500 sq m) maps, only one of which may be explored in one in-game day. Every in-game day, you are expected to visit one of these regions to complete missions and/or collect crafting supplies and food rations. You also assign your companions to visit regions and carry out basic tasks, collect supplies, or thin out enemies for you before you go there yourself for a story mission. The story campaign is designed such that it takes 20-30 in-game days to complete it, during which you will visit each region 4-5 times. This would make the maps repetitive very quickly if it were not for repositioned resources and enemy and merchant spawn points, changing weather and environmental states between runs. Overall, I found this more enjoyable than the average AAA game's massive but lifeless maps. There are five companions you can recruit. In order to keep them loyal and prevent them from deserting you need to follow their advice on plot relevant decisions. The characters' back-stories and personalities are such that for any decision, two of them will disagree. And whoever you chose not to side with, will show a drop in their "relationship" status. While this makes every decision tactical, it stops you from taking the choice you personally feel is right. The game makes up for this by allowing you to change any choice you made throughout the game by spending "Chernobylite", letting you find out consequences of all possible actions without replaying entire sections. There is a "VR Inception" game-within-the-game where you have to fight 15 randomised groups of enemies in small arenas (including three bosses from "Monster Hunt side missions") to get a chance to improve relations with one of your companions. This gamemode follows a rouge-lite formula. All major choices have consequences, often very unexpected ones. There are random encounters in the form of some creepy dolls. They are so varied and unique, you never know what to expect. Base customisation and weapon modification have significant variety and depth. The final mission is a "heist" with some Mass Effect meets Oceans Eleven kind of vibes: assigning roles to companions, making tactical choices, etc. I liked this very much, but I wish there was more than one mission of this type. There is a "tour around the zone" mode that lets you explore the recreation of the exclusion zone without enemies, to see photographs and converse with "scientist" NPCs talking about the actual history and consequences of the Chernobyl incident. There is also a free play mode that lets you visit any region with custom gear and events. The game is surprisingly well-optimised, with graphics turned low it ran on my potato system just fine. You can set difficulty for combat, survival and management separately. The "monster" enemies can teleport, making combat challenging in a fun way. Also, there is a "timed" boss who shows up if you take too long in a level, there are ways to delay his appearance if you want. His appearance is telegraphed with a brewing storm, which is cool. However, he would often teleport right in front of you giving you no opportunity to use stealth.
What I did not like
The main plot seemed unnecessarily convoluted to me. The side-characters had simpler and yet interesting back-stories, of which we get to learn very little through some conversations. The stealth is simple but realistic, mainly involving crouching behind cover or bushes. But I noticed that enemies' hearing detection radius does not account for height. I would be running around two stories up, but an enemy on the ground outside would get alerted. Every time you kill a person, the main character takes psychological damage. Which can be cured with some consumables like "calming salts" and vodka (lol wut?). So if you decide against stealth, you would have to pack vodka along with ammo. Manual save points don't work very well. Enemies can sometimes respawn after reloading (once saw them standing on top of their own corpse). The merchant NPCs have limited dialogue options. They introduce themselves all over again every time you choose to choose to "chat" with them. At one point I straight up robbed a merchant and he sounded understandably angry. But the next day he was back to his jolly self. Some monsters cannot leave the buildings they spawn inside, so you could lure them to the door and kill them like sitting ducks. Crafting traps is not possible while you in combat. Also traps once crafted cannot be moved. Further, crafting creates noise, so you cannot do it too close to an unaware enemy without alerting them. All these significantly reduce traps' usefulness. The available recourse is to craft a noisemaker trap to attract the enemy to your damaging trap (i.e. twice the crafting) or noting the patrol route and crafting trap on it. The ability to pre-craft traps and deploy them where needed would have fixed this issue. At 2 instances during my ~40 hour playtime, the game glitched out and I had to reload an older save or restart the mission. Once the monster I was supposed to hunt did not spawn, the other times the game refused to believe that I am no longer in combat (there is a timer for it, and it just stopped counting down). That is still okay, but I had 2 crashes within a span of 2 hours of playing the VR inception mode.

It was fun and easy game. Many games are much better than this, but it has its shine. It also has many bugs. And sound does not work on my headsets - only on my bad quality ear plugs (this is second game with this issue). But is is fun to play. Try it.

- Strange story - Good graphics - Good gun play - Non-combat interior only base building - Food only aspect of survival aside from combat I didn't rush the game and It took me 38 hours to complete and I still hadn't done everything. (IMO) This is not a horror game as it states and I am glad because I hate horror games, it does have a freaky atmosphere though which I loved even though it did spook me quite a few times.

i sunk about 114 hours into this game and i can confidently say that it was not worth it, the gameplay is very bland, your own choices dont matter, lack of guidence towards the end game so i had to look up walkthroughs for every decision, fixing choices is extremely tedious, the endings are incredibly underwhelming. the heist was really annoying because everytime i made one right choice, the next choice would be wrong because you didn't make the very specific choice that you dont get any guidence for, then get berated by tatyana over and over again. and lastly, tatyana, she is singlehandedly the most annoying character, she would send you on a mission by calling for you so desperately then once you get there, you pick up a fucking pencil and suddenly nothing is actually wrong and she sounds completely fine, reminiscing about some random shit that has no actual significance to the story, then start gaslighting your character out of nowhere. i waited for this game to be fully complete when it was still half finished, and now i was finally able to finish it but it was not worth it.

I have fully played through the game start to finish, earned every achievement, and unlocked what I think is the best ending. In 47 hours of game play I have not regretted picking up chernobylite once. It scratched that wonderful itch that has only been fulfilled by fantastic classics such as Stalker and Metro before. The gameplay has been truly enjoyable from beginning to end and worth every penny spent.

This game truly stands out with its atmosphere, Being scared to go in and out of buildings along with the random encounter left an eerie feeling. The cast of characters was also goated mine personally was the Rat King. The mid point gets really repetitive but the ending very much made up for it and I highly recommend this game to anyone looking for a Metro x Tarkov feeling.

I don’t usually leave reviews but I’m glad I played Chernobylite before reading what the community had to say about it, it’s been a genuine surprise. Story driven, single player games aren’t normally my go to but this one really pulled me in! The atmosphere is incredible. It's tense, creepy and deeply immersive. It’s a slow burn but stick with it and you’ll be rewarded. While it takes its time, it’s not short on action or excitement when it counts. The story is beautifully tragic and told in a way that keeps you engaged without overwhelming you with endless dialogue. Don’t expect Call of Duty or anything like it. This is a game that rewards patience, exploration and thoughtful decision making. It also features some unique mechanics that let you revisit and reflect on your choices in meaningful ways and how you manage your team and resources actually matters. Visually, it’s stunning! I’ve seen some mention performance issues but I suspect any problems I had were down to my old GPU. I haven’t finished it yet but I’m always eager to jump back in.

Bought this game because i wanted more games like stalker or metro. I found this game to be very interesting because of the historical significance of the nuclear disaster. so far i am only 5 hours into this game and i absolutely love it. I told my best friend about it and i might buy this as a birthday gift for him.

Overall fun game. The story is really convolluted and you likely won't have any idea whats going on until the very end (on purpose, I suppose). English voice actors are horrible though. The writing is really weird at times, as if lots of stuff got lost in translation. Also typos and weird formulations are common.

Really enjoyed my experience with this game it has building, exploration and suspense all set in a familiar world of Chernoblyl and Pripyat. While not an open world game such as Stalker some of it will feel familiar. Definately would recommend.

Having a fun time! Different than Metro. I wanted do give this a shot before getting STALKER 2. It's got some interesting mechanics, and a decent plot. The sequel game is in the works, so I will definitely get it.

Game is good, do not even bother with the English dub, play the game as it was intended. Story is good if you give it a chance. Might come back to this game one day to 100% it, I missed a single achievement. My tips though, as someone who beat it: Think of the Black Stalker like the The Reaper in the persona series, yes, you can kill him, but he's meant to discourage you from spending too much time on one run. mainly because if you do spend too much time on the map, you do realize that it's actually quite small. But you can for the most part, finish what you sought out to do within the timeframe alloted before The Black Stalker comes.
(signaled by the chernobylte lightning storms btw)
Dont be worried too much about dying either. In some cases, it's a good thing. Dont waste food giving double rations, normal rations work well in 90% of cases. Railgun op Make your base somewhat concise, if you place everything everywhere and have a bunch of random workbenches you're gonna forget what does what. Scan, scan, scan, and scan, embrace your inner loot goblin, you have about 10-20 minutes per mission to grab stuff. try to grab all the green highlighted items, they are optional story content, however they unlock plot that can be viewed in your bedroom. just have a good time, get to know the characters, just get cozy and enjoy yourself,
