Mostly Intense Monster Defense is, obviously, a PvZ clone. And at first you could easily think there are no real addition than just a sunflower clone and a peashooter clone. However, this game got a Tactic Wheel wich changes everything, being able to change how some towers changes like the Skelly (Peashooter clone) can either shoot bones from the top or the bottom, the bottom being able to attack small ennemy and hit weaknesses of other ennemies. Wich sounds awesome, however the tactic wheel only works on 4 of the 6 towers in game, and yes there are only 6 towers in this game with only 2 being kinda original being the Dark Mage and the Goblin. Now the biggest problem in my opinion is the balance, with only 16 levels wich is kinda short (PvZ having 50 levels and a lot of minigames after the adventure), the Dark Mage is kinda not that good. You can either shoot fireballs dealing a bit more damage than skeletons or iceballs dealing pretty bad damage but slows down ennemies a bit, and honestly sometimes putting a skeleton instead of a dark mage is worth it. Also the ennemies can be unfair sometimes too. The Cowboy guy in particular, that can jump over defenses and deal good damage, and in the final levels it almost becomes mindless spamming of towers hopping not to be overrun. So, Mostly Intense Monster Defense isn't a bad game, nor is it a great game. It's decent and I had fun playing it, kinda sad that only in 2 hours the game is finished and all I can do is replay campaign levels or that survival mode that after wave 20 it becomes nightmare simulator. So, a solid 12/20. Play it if you want to have a bit of fun, however just how some achievements are insanely rare (even the "Finish the campaign" one is below 10%) you probably ragequit if you've got bad temper.

Real short tower defense game with funny dialogue, good visuals, and unique sound effects. Only gripe is that survival mode is really RNG so getting the achievements associated with them takes awhile.

GRADE: F. Just completely below average. I liked the pixel art design of the game. But after a short bit of play you can see its not really done that well. And the game play is so basic and repetitive its just not fun, or good, or even worth playing as a time waster. Just do your self a favor and play anything else, Your really not missing anything here.

The game compresses all the infuriating parts about PvZ in less than half the playtime. Enemies with only one counter, mistakes aren't forgiving at all, no such thing like lawnmowers, economy being clutch to the second, restricting player choice, and my fav mechanic to hate; Units now need to be micromanaged to be in specific firemodes, or they won't deal damage.

I got instantly hooked by the game mechanics and had to keep playing for 2 hours straight. Game started easy but got more variety with enemies and tools as the story progressed further. Graphics and music felt like a fresh breeze from the good old 1990s. I haven't encountered any issues with bugs or such. Well worth the time and money!

Fun little clone of Plants vs. Zombies. It tries to do its own thing by having this tactics wheel mechanic, where you can change the way the units attack, but ultimately, it's just a simple game that tries to mimic what PvZ did better. The only thing in favor for it is that the dev actually tried to make it have some challenge in the story mode, which works in most levels, but ends up just being endless enemy spam in others, leading to some very frustrating levels in between the average difficulty ones. Fun time waster, worth a buy if it's on sale.

A small clone of Plants VS Zombies with own twist on formula. This game is really good even despite lack of proper enemy balance and will take around 3-5 hours to finish depending on how many attempts you will take on final stages. The only bad thing about this game is how much RNG based levels are. Sometimes later level will throw bs enemy after enemy way too early making you instant lose but sometimes it will throw like 0 of them making you finish the level way too easy. Very questionable balance.

Quite a fun game, and worth the price. Harder than plants vs zombies when it starts getting into the later levels.

This is very much a Plants Vs Zombie Inspired tower defense game by a solo developer. First saw this game on a post on imgur, and due to a liking for supporting smaller developers and having an itch for a PvZ-like game. The length and difficulty of this game are both shorter and harder than PvZ (especially in later levels) as it doesn't have the lawnmower mechanic of razing a lane when things begin to break through a lane, and your minions here have no way of firing the opposite way down a lane. My one suggestion to take the content that is present a lot further would be for Steam friends that also have the game, to display their Time//Score/Wave visible in a leader board for the Endless mode which could spark some competition and a bit more longevity with the content here.

I initially saw Mostly Intense Monsters Defense on the r/IndieGaming subreddit, where it had been upvoted a few times IIRC and caught my eye then. these are my first impressions after about 1 hour and 40 minutes: + great pixel art and character illustrations. + nice music. + has a good sense of humor with the writing and achievement names. Stanley is a wonderful character, I love him. + definitely has some strong Plants vs. Zombie vibes, but the added tactics are great, ensuring that you can't just set your units and forget 'em, and there are some unique enemy types. this isn't remotely a ripoff, even if you can jump into this very easily if you're familiar with the classic PvZ game as I am. + each level sees its rules change and/or a new friendly/enemy unit type added, keeping things consistently fresh and engaging. ~ doesn't look like this is as robust a package as PvZ was, but then again I'm 99.99% sure this didn't have PopCap type money behind it and it sells itself as a much smaller package anyway, and is priced accordingly. just keep that in mind if you're expecting all of the different modes and minigames you could fart around in like PvZ had. this is much more lane defense centric. there's no, like, greenhouse as there was in PvZ1. if you were into PvZ but never bothered with that side of it, then it's no skin off your back that this game doesn't have something like that. certainly worth checking out, if it sounds like your bag. I already think it was worth the buy, personally. I'm still dipping into it, though I'm trying a bunch of other games so if you see the whole play time since updated tag barely trickling up, that's not really reflective of how much I want to play the game, necessarily.

The game progresses in a nice manner, introducing one feature per level. The level 7 also threw me off (in a nice way) by changing the way how the spawning works. Had to stop playing because I did not realize how fast time passed, completing the levels made me just want to do the next one! Also, the artwork is amazing and the dialogue is fun!

Its like plants vs zombies but you actually have to pay attention. Also the story mode is 2 hours, so keep that in mind.

I will give it a neutral review. Plant vs zombie is still the best. I do however like indie games.

It is an okay/average game for that price. It has the problems of not showing you the Damage your Towers do, how much health enemies have, every round starts the same with you putting down 3 resource giving crystals and putting the first towers where enemies start showing up.Some funny dialog.

It's a pretty good but short game that can provide 2-5 hours of enjoyment probably. Later levels are rather challenging, but overall the difficulty curve is not too bad. The final boss does feel kinda underwhelming though, maybe a health bar or something would be better because right now it feels like he's just there? I had fun while playing, but I'd recommend getting it during a sale with how short the game is. Some minor bugs but nothing too game breaking.

Short and fun tower defense with some good writing. Well executed, I did not run into any technical problems.

Pros: 1) Unlike most of the Plants Vs Zombies clones, it has its own identity with its own tactics system that allows your defenses to change their tactics to counter different varieties of enemies. 2) A great challenge for the player especially Plants Vs Zombies players to adapt to the difficulty and use the tactics system to their advantage to win the battle. 3) Good Pixel Art and Laughable Dialogue that breaks the forth wall sometimes. 4) Quality over Quantity, despite having a total of 6 monsters overall, they are important units to counter the specific enemies. The humans have different ways to counter your defenses even the demonic spiders like the archers, adventurers and wizards but fortunately, there is at least one monster that can kill them effectively. 5) Unique Levels to prevent repeatitive gameplay, there is one level which the skeletons are on strike and you have to rely on the other monsters to help and the last two levels contains gaps which enemies will change their directions when they encounter one and non flying monsters will fall to their death if you place them on the gap. 6) Catchy Music. Cons: 1) Lack of Content, the major problem of the game, the game contains 16 level overall and once you complete all of the levels the reward is "A winner is you" cliche and the Endless Mode didn't have much to offer unless you are an achievement hunter. 2) The final boss is disappointing as all he does is to taunt you and retreats like a coward and then returns again. Comment: Please make a sequel of this game but this time add more content like more levels, enemies, units and special levels. I managed to beat the entire game within 67 mins.

A well made tower defense. Visuals are nice, sounds effects are enjoyable and the dialogue is funny. The tactic wheel is probably the most unique mechanic I've seen in a game like this and it's something I hope to see in some way in the future, it has a lot of potential. As many have pointed out before, the Dark Mage is a bit weak compared to just putting down more Skeletons, and the lack of insta kills besides the Iron Maiden can make things a bit unmanageable if your defense falls, but these aren't enough to make the game bad or anything. It's a nice short experience and I would recommend it to anyone who likes tower defense games, or at least liked PvZ.

This is a great indie version of a popular game. It's well-written and fun to play. The first trophy is great. Even not on sale the price is extremely reasonable. 10/10.

I loved the original Plants vs. Zombies, so when I saw this game on Reddit a while back, I decided to wishlist it and someday give it a go. And well, I finally bought it, played it... and what a treat! I really enjoyed this game, and even got all the achievements. The gameplay is pretty solid: A PvZ style tower defense where you accumulate a resource (dread) to place defenders (monsters) over five lanes. However, this game introduces a pretty interesting mechanic where you can change tactics for the monsters on each lane. Pretty good addition! However, I do wish there was some kind of "detonator" monster in this game, like the Cherry and Jalapeño in PvZ. I also wanted to mention that at first I was getting frustrated since the game seemed to be particularly difficult... but it turns out, I was the one making it difficult by making way more gems than necessary. One column of gems (five gems) is usually enough, and then you have way more space available to place monsters. After sticking to only one column of gems per stage, the game became WAAAAY more manageable, and I beat it soon after. I also enjoyed the aesthetic of the game, the art, and the silly dialogue. The music was ok, and some sound effects were... let's say, interesting. I'm pretty sure some of the sound effects were just the dev making sounds on his microphone lol. So, if you like Plants vs. Zombies, and/or Tower Defense games in general, then I totally recommend you give Mostly Intense Monster Defense a try, but only on sale with a 50%+ discount due to how short it is.

Great PvZ clone for a great price. Bought this in anticipation of needing a casual game once I get the steam deck, and I don't think this one will disappoint. Pro's:

Gameplay is solid, PvZ fans will feel right at home
Extra strategy with "Tactics" for different types of enemies, makes you feel more involved as the waves come
It will run on a potato
Con's

Each attack that hits an enemy makes a sound. After awhile all the different sounds get repetitive (I realize PvZ does this as well, might be a good change though)
Enemies don't show any signs of health. In PvZ, you can tell based on falling limbs how much health an enemy has left. Nothing like that here All in all, this is a great alternative with some of the same type of humor as the other game it's inspired by. Great buy!

I liked that rather being the humans defending, its the monsters for a change. It does have its faults, with the Wizards having long switch times, but overall its still awesome.

A cool Plants vs. Zombies type of game with some humorous dialogue! The progression feels nice since every level teaches you something new so far. I like the characters/monsters. The tactics wheel helps you be engaged after your units are set on the battlefield, since you're always looking to counter the enemy.
