Assasssin’s Creed Rogue

[Overview]
Assassin’s Creed Rogue has you play as Shay Cormac, a former Assassin who is betrayed by his brotherhood. He defects and becomes a Templar as he seeks to hunt down his former Assassin allies.
[Recommended Tweaks]
- Unlocked FPS - Increase texture quality and draw distance
[Positives]
- You play as a Templar in this game which is an interesting way of freshening things up. - Shay has some unique brutal pistol execution moves. - The story ties into Assassin’s Creed Unity, which is neat. - Solid music. - Decent side content.
[Mixed]
- Despite Shay having an interesting premise, he’s a pretty boring character. - Assassin’s will frequently try to hunt you down. This mechanic is neat at first, but it quickly becomes more of an annoying nuisance than anything.
[Negatives]
- Typical Ubisoft collectable spam. - It’s essentially a re-skin of Assassin’s Creed III and IV. - FXAA is the only anti-aliasing option. - 63 FPS cap (Can be uncapped with a mod.) - Very low draw distance. There’s frequent and noticeable pop-in (Can be improved with a tweak.) - Greedy “time saver” DLC’s that are designed to make the game more annoying for regular players. - $20-30 is a bit steep given the games age and it being only ~10 hours long.
[Conclusion]
AC Rogue is a fairly solid spin off. It’s still very samey, but it has enough that’s unique to make it worth playing if you’re a fan of the series. 7/10

Gameplay is the same as Black flag so its great. The story was ok but it had potential for so much more. I did really like the ending though.

Not the best assassins creed game, but still better than the new RPG oriented releases Ubisoft had done. However, this may not be everyone's cup of tea. And surely the worst game for a new fan to be introduced into the series. There's mainly two reasons to like this game. One : If you had enough of do goody liberal assassins preaching about free will and stuff and wanted to taste the view from the other side : the templars (in my opinion, the more badass-and-awesome to play as-side). Second : if you liked the gameplay in Black flag and wanted more of the naval action, this time trading your pirate boots for privateer boots (which is a fancy name for government supported pirates!). However, the story is not well written, rather in a rushed way. The characters are underdeveloped, due to limited screen time. They could have done this better. Still, I like the protagonist Shay with his badass templar coat and ponytail and no nonsense attitude. My fourth most favourite AC title character for sure. And it feels EXTREMELY GOOD killing the assassins as a templar!!!!!

Peak game. One of my favourite AC games. Story is good, albeit a bit short, the game should have had more development time, because a longer story would have been great, but it is good either way. There are a lot more locations that you do not need to go to outside of the story so after completing the story there is a still going to be a ton of things to do. Getting weapons, ship upgrades, outfits, crafting, harpooning, Forts, gang headquarters, taverns, raiding ships ect. The game has a lot of good content, Overall its very fun and there are not too many bugs either, don't recall having almost any game breaking bugs that required a reset. Only a few at best but the game is very playable. At least the fleet works unlike in Black flag where you need a mod to fix it. Definitely 10/10 would recommend.

This game is hit or miss for everyone, templar aspect is great, execution is kind of weak, leaves u with more questions then answers, shays a great character though, better naval combat than Ac Black Flag, also better parkour, combats the same, best finish animations in the series, set up the best revenge story for AC unity just for it to never happen, watered down version of black flag in my opinion, also has worse graphics despite being released after BF and before Unity I personally liked the game but definetly lacking

AC Rogue is the dark fantasy I craved after Black Flag. Remember Edward flirting with Templars? This is full-blown ‘join the dark side’ glory! Playing as Shay — an assassin-trained Templar hunting his former brothers? Chef’s kiss. 🖤 Sinking colonial assassins never gets old. Is it smaller than AC4? Sure. But stalking Arno in Versailles or wrecking Adewalé’s fleet? Priceless. The ultimate AC guilty pleasure. #TemplarGangRise

doesn't have Odyssey's scale or RPG freedom, nor Ezio's charisma trilogy, nor the groundbreaking origins of AC1. *But for pure narrative boldness, emotional punch, and its revolutionary flip of the script, Rogue's "Templar story" is unmatched.* It forces you to question everything you thought you knew about the Assassin-Templar war. Your claim holds significant weight – Rogue is a dark, brilliant, and essential chapter for any fan invested in the lore and moral complexity of Assassin's Creed. Shay's journey from Brother to Hunter is one of the most unforgettable stories the franchise has ever told.

It's still to cluttered up with secondary gimmicks, but I'm seventy three years old so I would say that wouldn't I ? However, it's not so cluttered that you can't get from one page of the story to the next without getting lost. I still haven't worked out how to deploy exploding cannon balls or burning oil but I'm finding the prospect of another game in which to get really clever quite attractive. So, all in all it's a good game.

I was not expecting this game to be this good. It was overly shadowed by Black Flag and unity. But overall its a great game! Love the voice acting and overall gameplay is better than black flag. It has more content.

Older game graphics, but optimization is great, good story, I was surprised how the story connected with Assassin's Creed Unity, in this game you kind of learn how to play Assassin's Creed.

The first time I played this game was when I rented a PS3 with my friends. At first it was to play football together. After that, when the others were already sleepy, no one wanted to play anymore. I looked around for what games were on the rented PS at that time, there was an AC game because of At first I already liked AC, when I rented it, it had AC and the title was Rogue. I finally tried it and it's crazy, it's really fun using a pirate theme. After a long time, I finally bought this game and it's still really good even though the last time I played it was many years ago. I hope there's a version. remake it and please don't make it expensive

I guess if you want a worst version of black flag you can play this one. It's basically a DLC with an extremely boring story and butchered ending. It could have been great, it isn't. Also I can't tell you how many issues I've had with ubisoft connect, bad savegame sync, savegame rollback, crash, truly an awful experience.

"What if the bad guy… wasn’t wrong?" Assassin’s Creed® Rogue flips the series' long-standing formula on its head, daring to ask a bold question: what happens when an Assassin stops believing? Released as a companion title to Unity during the last generation’s swan song, Rogue often flew under the radar — but it's a hidden gem that delivers a darker, more introspective look at the franchise’s core conflict. Set in the mid-18th century during the Seven Years’ War, Rogue follows Shay Patrick Cormac, a young Irish-American Assassin whose disillusionment with the Brotherhood leads him down an unexpected path — into the arms of the Templars. Shay’s fall from grace is handled with surprising nuance. He’s not motivated by greed or power, but by regret, betrayal, and a genuine belief that the Assassins have lost their way. His transformation from idealistic recruit to cold, efficient Templar enforcer makes for one of the most morally complex arcs in the series. The story also weaves brilliantly into the larger Assassin’s Creed mythos — tying directly into the events of Assassin’s Creed III and Black Flag, while acting as a narrative bridge to Unity. Familiar faces like Achilles Davenport, Haytham Kenway, and Adéwalé return, but now, they're seen from a very different perspective. If you’ve played Black Flag, Rogue will feel instantly familiar. It builds on the same naval and open-world mechanics, but with a colder twist — literally. The game takes you from the icy waters of the North Atlantic to the rugged river valleys of Appalachia and the bustling streets of New York City. Naval combat is a highlight once again, and Shay’s ship, the Morrigan, is faster and more agile than the Jackdaw. New threats like enemy ships with fire barrels, icebergs, and freezing waters add fresh challenges to sea warfare. On land, gameplay sticks to the series’ roots: parkour, stealth, and hidden blades. But a major twist is that now you're being hunted. Assassin stalkers hide in crowds and strike from the shadows — turning the tables and making you feel the paranoia you once inflicted. While the core mechanics don’t innovate much, the role reversal and setting shift keep things fresh. And the ability to use Templar tools like the air rifle and grenades adds tactical variety. Though developed for the previous generation, Rogue still looks great. The frozen seas, snow-swept forests, and Autumn-hued river valleys offer a stark beauty rarely seen in the franchise. The atmosphere leans toward bleakness — fitting for Shay’s morally grey journey. The soundtrack is solemn and haunting, trading the series' epic swells for introspective themes. Voice acting is strong, especially from Steven Piovesan as Shay, whose performance carries the game with quiet intensity. Assassin’s Creed® Rogue is often overlooked, but it shouldn't be. It’s a bold, reflective entry that challenges everything the series had built up until that point. By flipping the perspective and letting players see the world through Templar eyes, Rogue adds real depth to the overarching lore. While it doesn't reinvent the gameplay wheel, its storytelling risks and emotional weight make it stand out in a crowded franchise. It's the Black Flag formula with a heavier heart — and a sharper edge. Recommended For: Fans of Black Flag, those interested in morally complex stories, and longtime AC players who want to see the other side of the conflict. Avoid If: You want a brand-new gameplay experience, or don’t enjoy naval mechanics. Assassin’s Creed® Rogue proves that sometimes the most powerful story isn’t about staying loyal — it’s about walking away from everything you once believed in. Rating: 8/10

If there was a Neutral option this game would be it, while playing as a Templar is a very good concept, it's exactly the same as if I would be an assasin. It also didn't help that i played Black Flag before, making the ship combat feel annoying
