Some say Far Cry 4 is the peak of the series but i would not go that far..there are better titles in the franchise each with its own strength. The gameplay was great and fast paced, there are 100 ways to liberate an outpost and i'm not kidding ..if you decide to have fun just set something on fire hide and let the wind do its magic. You can free cages and use predators like tigers or bears to your advantage, you can even ride elephants but the real fun begins when you lure a few rhinos toward your enemies.. Chaining takedowns feels great, stealth is rewarding but maybe too op... you can turn enemies to toys just by trowing rocks..if you use a silencer or a bow it becomes a playground where you're controlling everything. Using mines and setting traps with c4 was my favorite strategy , it was so funny watching enemies trying to reach the alarm posts. Speaking of fun some of the side missions and dlcs were great ..i also enjoyed hunting in this game a lot. For its age this game still looks good and i consider it playable. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3436107952 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3431435060

Ubisoft broke all the ambient music in FC4 with a patch years ago and never bothered to restore it - some great music that fitted the Himalayan setting perfectly and really added to the game. There was a big patch yesterday so I had high hopes that they'd finally got around to fixing it but of course not. Instead, more than a decade after its release, there are now 2.5 GB worth of bras and loin clothes on the very slim number of characters with partial nudity and another UPlay installer in the game files. Ubisoft are incapable of not shooting themselves in the foot.

Far Cry® 4 – A Chaotic Open-World Adventure 🎮 Gameplay & Combat – 9/10 Far Cry 4 takes everything great about its predecessor and cranks it up. The gunplay is tight, the stealth mechanics are satisfying, and the sheer variety of ways to tackle missions keeps things fresh. Whether you're using silenced weapons, setting up ambushes with explosives, or riding an elephant into battle (yes, really), the game constantly rewards creativity. 🌍 Open World & Exploration – 9.5/10 The fictional region of Kyrat is absolutely stunning. From dense forests to snowy mountaintops, the world is full of life and danger. Wildlife plays a huge role—you’re just as likely to get attacked by a tiger as you are by enemy soldiers. The map is packed with side activities, outposts, fortresses, and hidden secrets that make exploration feel rewarding. 🎭 Story & Characters – 8/10 Pagan Min steals the show as one of the most charismatic villains in gaming. However, the main story can feel a bit predictable, and the protagonist, Ajay Ghale, is more of a blank slate compared to previous leads. That said, the faction choices and multiple endings add some replayability. 🔊 Sound & Atmosphere – 10/10 The sound design is phenomenal. The gun sounds are punchy, the ambient noise immerses you in the world, and the soundtrack perfectly fits the setting. Pagan Min’s voice acting alone deserves a 10/10. 🤝 Co-op & Replayability – 9/10 Co-op mode lets you tackle outposts and explore Kyrat with a friend, which adds a ton of fun. The variety of weapons, vehicles, and approaches to combat make it easy to come back for more. 🔥 Final Verdict: A Must-Play Open-World FPS Far Cry 4 takes everything great about Far Cry 3 and refines it while adding more chaos, more freedom, and more elephants. If you love open-world shooters with plenty of action and exploration, this is one of the best in the series. ⭐ Score: 9/10 💰 If it’s on sale, grab it ASAP!

absolutely love this game- i think it has one of the best settings in gaming. very rare to see a game based on india and nepal done so well. it does that have the ubisoft open world gameplay- find a tower, find an outpost, kill everyone, do a mission, repeat. but, the story, characters, and map are well worth it. it's between this and 3 as my favorite far cry.

well first 90% of the game was good, then * 2 "unknown locations" is undiscoverable, * the game stucks on loading screen after the last shangri-la boss due to known bugs and ubisoft just does nothing about this, it's a shame =/

Far Cry 4 is a fantastic game that delivers an immersive story, beautiful graphics, and a captivating world to explore. Although the drug themes can feel repetitive and the villain doesn’t reach the iconic status of Vaas, it’s still an incredibly fun game that deserves a big thumbs up. It’s a must-play for any fan of open-world shooters, offering a memorable experience from start to finish.

The basic mechanics are showing their age a bit too much for me. Far Cry 5 was my first FC game and I like it significantly more so that might color my review, but it's my truth.

Ubisoft's connect launcher they continue to insist that everyone is forced to use has now killed this game. Somewhere in the install process your ubisoft launcher becomes outdated and suddenly the game won't launch or even give an error code. Every kind of fix imaginable has been tried short of an exorcism to get this game to start. This isn't my specs or running too many apps it is genuinely not working when hitting play.

Requires a Ubi account connection, loading times are extremely long. Gameplay is mundane, but good to relax since little thought needed. Cut scenes remove collectibles like rare animal hides, so make sure to prioritize looting before missions. Game constantly requests my location, even though I've disabled access to location info for all devices. Huge violation of privacy.

Superb game. Great setting. Story is awesome and so is the gameplay. One of my favourites and very close to my heart. The environment is pure bliss and the gameplay is grittier than it's successors, but some might argue that FC3 is better. That's personal preference if you prefer an island over a mountain, Do try it but don't give your money to Ubisoft. Get a "different" version of this game from "somewhere else". Censoring a 11 Year Old game makes no sense. Edit - Nevermind, that censorship update was a mistake.

Absolutely horrendous port. Genuinely cannot believe this is for sale. I am frequently required to restart my pc after running this game because of visual artifacts which persist after the game is closed. It actually rewrote my gamepad inputs, so that while it worked for about 30 minutes after that B on an xbox 1 gamepad became left d-pad, the xbox button became jump, etc. With no way to remap controls at all or fix that, the game became unplayable after about 70 minutes. Horrendous.

Game is super fun. Even if you don't usually play shooters, the gameplay is diverse and doesn't have that many following missions like ubisoft games usually do, I'll always prefer this to Farcry 3.

From the perspective of base game this is the best far cry by far. The amount of culture and scenery of this game is so good. This is a passion project from ubisoft and its a 10/10 if not for bugs. Now for 100% - base game is fine some slightly annoying things but its fine the maps for the collectibles make it doable - steam achievements on the other hand were miserable due to the low player count the multiplayer achievement you have to coordinate with others also going for the achievement. Also the multiplayer sucks xd

This is the best Far Cry game I have played so far. I love the fighting mechanics! The game plays really well at 2560x1080p on Ultra/High settings, average about 70fps with my RX580. The combat does not feel repetitive at all. I would expect this game to take about 100 hours total to complete. Very much enjoyed

This is my favorite Farcry game! The story is a little weaker than 3's but the game play is improved in every aspect. More skills, riding elephants, a mini helicopter, topless tribal women, and honey badgers. What else is needed? Also Pagan Min is an underrated villain. Ubisoft popped off with this one. Wish they weren't such a trash company nowadays.

La version Française ce trouve plus bas [EN] To begin with, the game isn't bad—it just hasn’t aged well. The controls, especially for Ajay (the main character), are truly terrible. He's sluggish and frustrating to maneuver. You’ll often find yourself fighting the controls more than the enemies. For instance, healing locks you in place with painfully long animations, and climbing is just as slow and clunky—Ajay seems to take his sweet time scaling even the smallest ledges. The map is another major issue. It heavily emphasizes verticality, meaning you’ll spend most of your time climbing mountains, which becomes very annoying over time. Vehicles don’t help either, as their handling is absolutely awful, making traversal even more frustrating. As for the AI, it's absurdly overpowered. The game offers three difficulty levels, but honestly, there's no noticeable difference between them. Enemies hit way too hard, and you’ll find yourself dying in just a few hits. This means you’ll constantly be healing—and again, that healing animation is slow, unskippable, and extremely vulnerable to interruptions. The bugs are another persistent problem. Despite releasing back in 2014, the game is still plagued with glitches. Co-op mode is practically unplayable. Progression is tightly locked behind story advancement, which means you can’t unlock skills or get proper gear unless you push through the main missions or grind hunting sections. Some achievements are no longer obtainable as of 2025, either due to multiplayer servers being shut down or because they require paid DLC. This forces players to resort to external tools to unlock them on Uplay—not an ideal solution. Now, for the good stuff: The story is genuinely engaging, even though a few missions feel like filler. The visuals still hold up very well today, and the landscapes are beautiful. The game offers a unique Himalayan setting that you won’t find in many other titles. Weapons and skills are fun to use, and there’s a solid base underneath all the frustrating parts. Overall, for a game released in 2014, it’s still worth playing—just be prepared for a fair amount of frustration, especially due to how poorly the gameplay has aged. Positive Points : +Engaging and immersive story +Beautiful graphics, still impressive today +Unique Himalayan setting +Fun weapons and skill progression Negative Points: -Clunky and slow controls (Ajay feels heavy) -Long, unskippable animations (especially healing) -Frustratingly vertical map design -Awful vehicle handling - Overpowered AI with no real difficulty balance -Persistent bugs despite age -Broken or unavailable co-op mode -Progression locked behind story/hunting -Some achievements now impossible (multiplayer shutdown / DLC-locked) [FR] Pour commencer, le jeu n’est pas mauvais en soi, mais il a vraiment très mal vieilli.

They added censorship to a game that’s over 10 years old... probably because of the Tencent takeover. They censored a female character who was originally shown nude — you could see her breasts before, but now they've covered her up so the nipples are no longer visible. I can't appreciate this kind of pointless censorship. Sure, mods can restore it, but the direction this is heading in is worrying. It makes me not want to buy any more games from Ubisoft or Tencent — you never know what they’ll suddenly change in older titles. Update: After Ubisoft made a major blunder with the censorship in Far Cry 3, everything has now been reversed (which makes my review no longer relevant). Other than that, it's a great game! :)

It sets a bad precedent with digital games, that a game creator can go back ten plus years later and censor things they thought were fine at the time of creation. I am looking at Square for doing the censor for Tifa multiple years after release as well. I don't care what you do with a game that just comes out, censor it and adjust it to your hearts content. But don't go around censoring something from a decade ago, people bought the game as is that day. What keeps them from changing even more things and not telling you? I will leave this part of my comment here with a date below it as a reminder it happened. 4/3/2024 Edit I changed my review to positive as the change was claimed to be an accident. But I don't like that someone was that careless supposedly pushing an update. Date of revert is 4/4/2025 I will give some positive comment, at least the revert was quickly done. The game itself is an enjoyment if you are into the open world, gun play, exploring that most Far Cry games are. Some occasional graphic issues, but that could be a hardware thing.

This is not for me. I may have messed up by playing 5 first THEN this one. But the same appeal is not there as there was for 5 (or other games TBH). It has issues on 1st launch (one of the sound files or something was acting up or something). Relaunched and tried to get past the intro mission and it just felt boring to me. May be for someone else, but not for me.

Very good but a little too similar to far cry 3 in playstyle (it's more or less the exact same things with different skins). The protagonist feels like a mix between far cry 3's protagonist and far cry 1's protagonist, which is somewhat funny because 3+1 = 4. Very strong supporting characters and very strong antagonists (personality wise).

Okay, so since the only Far Cry game that I have played before this one being Far Cry 2, I have to say that I am impressed with the level of detail and content Far Cry 4 has to offer. From beautiful graphics, plenty of side quests and missions, and huge weapon arsenal to amazing action packed gameplay. Absolutely stunning! DLC "Valley Of The Yettis" is also really entertaining, and whole new map is a really nice addition, so definitely make sure to get Gold Edition when purchasing the game. 8/10

I finished this game on console before and it was very enjoyable. This game adheres to all the features of the Far Cry series and has high graphics, animation and beautiful gameplay similar to Far Cry 5. The variety of missions and hunting is well designed. You can spend hours immersed in the beautiful environment of the game with the story and stages that are told in beautiful forests. In this version, an air vehicle has been unveiled for the first time. After completing a number of stages, you will have your own house and even upgrade it. The sub-stages are designed with a large number and interesting that can entertain you after finishing the game. But one thing really upset me, I bought the game a few months ago but unfortunately the game does not run and Ubisoft support ultimately could not help me despite many attempts. I hope this problem will be resolved in the near future.

Absolutely atrocious port of the game, ever since Ubisoft has implemented their requirement of Ubisoft Connect to play their games, the game launch is terrible often times launching in Windowed with an impossible way of rectifying and switching to Fullscreen. The game has no consideration for other tabs, if you try and use your windows key it doesn't bring your task bar or hud up, and if you alt+tab it doesn't work either, your only option (at least for me) is to ctrl+alt+del to open task manager then click other tabs, or close out the game. If you use controller on the game its a 50/50 chance of it working, and when it does work, the bindings for control are out of whack. The controller's auto-aim is non-existent, which I don't need but there is no aim sensitivity like at all, there is not even a setting. I loved the Far Cry series circa Far cry 5, and was excited to see that it was on some fire sale on steam after getting a PC, now I'm just utterly disappointed and quite literally never want to support this gaming studio ever again, due to Ubisoft's unfettered greed and lack of consideration for its fanbase. I hate you Ubisoft execs, stuff your head in used toilet water until breathing is no longer an option.

Had a lot of fun with this game when it first launched. As someone that likes to 100% games and be able to find everything fairly easy it hits on those notes. Playing it in 2025 really shows the age though. They evidently had several wild animals and small children develop a large portion of the game. Several reasons i can't recommend and will not ever reinstall/play again. -The designer of the squirrel suit and the parachute needs to never work on a game again. Squirrel suit deploys on its on and when you are 5ft off the ground but go to activate while falling 100ft and the game wont let you. Parachute/squirrel suit deployment will 9/10 just flat out kill you regardless of speed or height. 90% of my deaths in this game were from falling 5ft, smacking into a rock from 3ft away. The game even killed me by activating the squirrel suit in front of a fenceline and ramming me into it while i was on the ground LMAO. -Driving Mechanics/Helicopter are atrocious and the developer behind them needs to have their license revoked if they think that's how vehicles operate. Your car will constantly pull to the left or the right regardless of what you do. You'll get stuck on the smallest brance, piece of wood, small rock, etc. as if it were the iceberg that sunk the titanic. The helicopter is decent for traversing with better controls but the game just loves limiting where you can fly making it useless for the things you'd actually want it for. Not to mention the inability to turn it off before exiting so get used to killing yourself/NPCs due to spinning blades that continue 30 seconds after you've exited. -General movement is poor and sluggish. Not letting you climb or vault over simple objects. Feeling like you are 300 pounds while running. No roll or dodge. -The control scheme used for the game as well as the button display is the worst in any PC game I've come across. Person behind this design thought they were making a 1999 game i guess. -They go for realism with things like fall damage, momentum, breathing, etc meanwhile make things like NPC/Animal Behavior, Stealth and Gunplay mechanics and crafting super arcadey and unrealistic. These guys didn't know what kind of game they wanted to make. Avoid if you are looking for a fun experience. You'll find nothing of the sort here and I imagine thats what the developers were aiming for. They must have been miserable during the developement and wanted to share their suffering.

It's Far Cry 3 but sexier gameplay and map, and dumber protagonist and story, and a looovely villain that is more of a good guy than the two idiots you help to lead their terrorist rebellion.
