I've got almost 200 hours in this game and I keep coming back to it. It scratches the same itch as Final Fantasy Tactics Advance for me while having the quick playability and random element of a roguelite. The dev team pushes out updates and fixes frequently, and you can see a lot of love in the design.
Classes are interesting and offer different playstyles, keeping your games fresh, while offering a leveling system that adds more perks and the ability to add stats or trinkets that can carry over into your new games. I do feel there should be an option to have these also carry over to the additional units you pick up across your runs- the additional units end up feeling somewhat flat each run as you can only modify their stats on runs or add new cards- you cannot remove cards from their decks, and the perks you unlock on units as you level them do not carry over if you aren't actively playing them. I think adding in some ability to either carry over earned perks and soul stones or allocate stats to units you add into your runs would also encourage players to level up or try classes they might not normally try out, as they'd have more incentive. However, I still enjoy the runs- different arrangements of units can lead to new strategies and playstyles you might not have otherwise considered.
Deckbuilding is also interesting- cards not only have their own abilities, but have additional items on them that can add to their effects, which you can choose to a degree- for example, a spell card that causes damage might also spawn combat items when cast, increase your defense, or heal you for a small amount. Playing around with builds keeps the game feeling fresh, and I like exploring different card ability and trinket combos.
I think this game is at a good price point, particularly for the hours of enjoyment I've gotten out of it. If you enjoy tactics games and deckbuilders, I think you'll find Brawl Tactics: Origins to be right up your alley. If you like this game I'd also recommend checking out Tower Tactics: Liberation- it's a roguelite tower defense game, but by the same team, and also receives frequent updates.
