The Interactive Adventures of Dog Mendonça and Pizzaboy is a good point and click adventure game, so what is the story. When you were younger you must have heard all the stories about monsters, demons, vampires and creatures that go bump in the night, you were told that they do not exist, that they're all fantasy. But the people told you that they weren't real are wrong, monsters do exist.
But the monsters and humans are separated due to the code that was written by the Elder monsters after the second world war and one of its writers was the legendary werewolf and paranormal detective Dog Mendonça. Dog Mendonça along with his Partners Eurico Catatau AKA Pizza Boy and the demon Pazuul have had many adventures and this is one of them, when a beautiful young woman talks about a mysterious curse it's up to pizza boy to discover the truth when his partner and boss dog Mendonça disappears it’s up to the unpaid intern must discover the truth and put this case to rest.
Now likes, the gameplay is good it's your standard point and click game, gather items and combine them in order to solve puzzles to advance, nothing really complicated, but there is something that helps this game to stand out and that’s interrogations, as a detective or in this case a detectives apprentice we can interrogate suspects and try and suss out their motivations and while its generally just picking the right dialogue option, it still made the gameplay interesting, we also have a fighting mini game where we get to fight with certain characters it was okay nothing really to write home about honestly it probably would have been better to remove it.
The story is really good it has plenty of great twists and turns and the clues are laid out very well and easy to follow that if you use a little brain work you can piece together the whole mystery pretty quickly, there's also nothing that feels convoluted or ridiculous, and even though you can figure out most of the Mysteries are still some parts that can surprise you.
The story also has a bit of good lgbtq representation which was a nice surprise, also this game is based off of a comic series but don't worry you don't need to read the comics in order to understand the characters or the world, the game does a good job in setting that all up, with some slight references to the comics. Lastly the story makes plenty of references to classic horror and sci-fi, some obvious, some not so obvious.
The graphics are very good it has a nice comic book feel to it, it has well detailed levels with a nice use of colors and designs that really help everything stand out and capture the feel of a comic book that just makes you want to stop and stare at each new section of the game. The levels are good quite diverse with plenty of great places to look at with very good detail and that makes you want to explore and see all the little touches and scenery that brings this world to life , also to see all the different references to classic horror and sci-fi.
The characters were good each one had their own Unique Designs and personalities like the old Gruff detective, the young Newby and such but done with a Lucas arts twist. I particularly like the villain he was quite messed up and if I made a list of top 10 point and click villains he would definitely be in it. The voice acting was okay I've heard better in other point and click games, I'm not saying this game had the worst voice acting some characters sounded perfect well others could use some work. The music was good had plenty of nice songs that you could just sit back and listen to as you go through the game.
Now dislikes, the game can be a bit short you can beat it about 4 maybe 5 hours, it's also a bit expensive like $15 seems a bit much for a game that’s this short. The game doesn't have any achievements which kind of feels weird because this feels like a game that needs achievements, lastly there's no way to delete your save file which was also kind of dumb.
Okay then now that I told you all this The Interactive Adventures of Dog Mendonça and Pizzaboy is a good point and click adventure game, it has good gameplay, a really good story and good characters, so I do recommend getting this game if you're looking for a point and click game done in the style of classics like Lucas Arts then I recommend it, but I do say wait till it's on sale just to save a couple of bucks.
