With a shorter runtime and focused narrative, it delivers a more mature and socially charged experience. ---{ Graphics }--- 🔲 Awful 🔲 Bad 🔲 Will do ✅ Decent (Nothing special) ✅ Stunning 🔲 Visual Masterpiece Built on the Black Flag engine, it retains the lush visuals, ocean effects, and crisp animations — though the world is more compact. Urban environments are dense and atmospheric. ---{ Gameplay }--- 🔲 Bad 🔲 Okay ✅ Nothing special ✅ Good 🔲 Very good 🔲 Try not to get addicted Familiar naval and land combat, with less emphasis on open-world freedom. I've played the entirety of Assassin's Creed series, and that is not through purchase. But I wanted to come back to this game since, 1. It was cheap 2. I love older titles from the series more 3. This has a very short one. (This is a DLC) Yes, this is also a standalone game since this deeply connects two* of the main games with Adewale (Protagonist) and I think a standalone version was deserved for this. So, to shorten it off, this is basically Black Flag but with simpler upgrade mechanics and progressions to match with the entire story run time of less than 10 hours unlike Black Flag. I have already completed 100% in this within 7 hours (Even after completing all areas fully) cause it makes sense as this was initially a DLC. So far, I have nothing to complaint about, this was as I expected since I have played this before with same 100% completed. I honestly came here to hunt down and collect those achievements. [spoiler]*Assassin's Creed: Black Flag and Assassin's Creed: Rogue (Chronologically connects in the aftermath of events from Black Flag) This game fills a huge plot hole of how Adéwale became an Assassin and how he ended appearing as a guest character in Rogue that would have likely made a huge confusion among players. Fun Fact: Adéwale becomes one of the characters in the series to appear in 3 games with the likes of Ezio but playable in only 1 game.[/spoiler] [h3]Conclusion[/h3] I don't recommend paying a full price of $15 for just [b]Assassin's Creed: Freedom Cry[/b], If you want an expanded experience for a better value, I suggest buying [b]Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag: Gold Edition or any edition[/b] that includes Freedom Cry as a DLC. So you can play big size of Black Flag and you can play Freedom Cry if you loved it. I bought in on sale for $2.74 so it was worth that.

If you've played AC IV Black Flag? Expect the same fluid game experience with a different story about a character from AC IV Black Flag. They definitely portray how harsh slavery can be and how chaotic that time period was, but it's interesting to see it from the point of view of an ex-slave. I definitely recommend it as it's a solid game and story

I liked the setting of Haiti during the French occupation. The game does a good job of showing the horrors of the international slave trade. Killing slavers feels more satisfying than killing the enemies in any other AC game. Gameplaywise, it's your standard AC experience. It is very short though, so only get it on sale.

[h1] Stifled Cry [/h1] Freedom Cry is a strange experiment: a DLC disguised as a standalone game, much like Blood Dragon back in the day. But unlike that neon-soaked madness, this cry for freedom ends up trapped in its own cage. Adewale, dons the hood to lead his own crusade. [h2] Story: Promise, rage and disappointment [/h2] At first, Adewale seems like an incredible protagonist: sharp, composed, strategic. But as the missions unfold, that image crumbles. He becomes impulsive, consumed by anger, and his character arc loses strength. Ironically, the supporting cast (like Bastienne or the rebel leader) end up being more memorable than him. That said, the anti-slavery message is present and does hit hard at times. But often, the game seems afraid to dig deeper. [h2] Gameplay and Content: A small map, a clear cause [/h2] This isn’t your traditional Assassin’s Creed. The map is small. The missions are few. The collectibles are within reach. And honestly? That’s not a bad thing. Sometimes a focused, no-fluff experience is exactly what you need. Going for 100% completion and doing the side content ends up being the most satisfying part of the game. [h2] Conclusion [/h2] Freedom Cry isn’t a bad game, is fine as a DLC, just that. It doesn’t fully justify being a standalone title. It has heart, it means well… But it never truly gets it right.
