Penumbra Overture

The first horror game I've played on my own. I remembered it fondly and now I know why. Can be completed in around 5 hours if you're not a lore goblin. I'd add maybe 1-2h additional hours for reading all the books and so on, which there are quite a lot of. Best Greenland horror story so far.

Fun and immersive game that holds up despite it's age. The unique controls really immerse you into the game. Worth your time and a great set up for the sequel.

Penumbra overture is a pretty alright game, it has some interesting stuff n some pretty nice atmosphere but I personally find the subtitle of "overture" to be quite fitting, I think the real meat of Penumbra is in Black Plague but Overture is a great introduction/first instalment worth experiencing

Very fun game. Its age definitely shows through out but certain other aspects are timeless. The story and environments are unsettling and immersive, puzzles are fun (bar that one alternating gaseous floor), and level design is solid enough. What this game does well, imo, blots all of its flaws.

Interesting to see where it all started. I've played this game before but forgot what happens. I understand now why I don't remember much because there's not a whole lot that happens. There are some good puzzles though. I love the physics puzzles. Some creepy music, I just wish they did more with ambient sound. The only voiced character "Red" has some fun dialogue. The dogs are not scary at all. The combat is awkward if you don't enable simple swinging which I recommend. It does make it easy to kill the dogs. I don't know if they intended for them to be killed so easily. There are a lot of notes to read, I just wasn't interested enough. I've heard the second game is a lot better, but I wanted to experience both games togheter. I encountered a mouse issue not listed on pcgamewiki. If you have high mouse polling it makes the mouse all f*cky. There is a guide that tells you to buy a program to fix it. All you need to do is lower the mouse polling (I lowered it to 125) using software for your mouse and it fixes the problem.

Puzzle horror mystery game that is a bit like an escape room type of game. ***Overall a pretty good game except for certain parts of the game that are a bit too hard to figure out. - 2 main weaknesses : 1) some puzzles are too hard to figure out or poorly designed. 2) Combat itself is unnecessarily hard because of how you control weapons. Enemies could be removed from the game and the game would be better this way! They are often just annoying to deal with. Game that is very interesting from the start. Interesting controls, but the environment is sometimes a bit too hard to interact with (relatively imprecise and stiff controls). Didn't take long for me to start feeling fear. Not the strongest aspect of the game though. Atmosphere/music is pretty good. The notes are very interesting to read (interesting back story for the setting of the game). - Also, pretty good story! The design of the mine is great. It feels like you're in a real place. A lot of love was put into this game! I checked a walkthrough about 5-6 times.

Damn good, but basic, horror game from the Amnesia age. If you can deal with some janky controls expect good atmosphere, relatively good story and a spooky time. Would recommend.

The puzzles are great but simple, the atmosphere is nice and the story is okay. Overall its a really good game for its time.

Anyone who says this game isn't scary suffers from an acute lack of imagination. It's true the 'monsters' aren't scary. There are no jump scares. There's very little suspense. What there is, however, is a man trapped in an abandoned mine, a mine where every step seems to delve him deeper and further from escape, and the horrifying tales of those trapped before him. That man is, of course, you, and if you lack imagination you'll fail to internalize the fate that has befallen you--there is no escape, no one is coming to rescue you, you, too, will eventually - soon - commit previously unthinkable horrors to survive, and an equally inescapable madness will follow. Red joyfully moralizes his final meal as "feasting only began when the men became pungent, when the stench of life had gone and only the sweet aroma of decay remained", and in case you hadn't noticed, you are taking his place.

Probably the stiffest controls which might be on purpose. Fun to see how many simliarities there are with Amnesia: The Bunker
