Possibly one of the best creature-collecting games out there? Maybe? Aside from the big name, which has gone down hill in recent years. The story is interesting and gameplay is fun, and the genetics/channeling system is great. I actually started playing MHS1 on my 3DS after starting this because all the lore that was being dumped got me intrigued. I also enjoy the aspect of Monster Raising more than the traditional hack n slash constant hunting and killing of the main series game. And I like the anime-ish art style, it's all very cute and the customization is great, too. Alwin is a cutie pie, too. Definitely recommend if you enjoy turn-based combat and exploration, as well as creature collecting!

Great game to play on the side, it can be a bit grindy at times and getting specific Monsties can also be a hassle but that aside the aesthetics are great the the gameplay is fun enough. story could use less filler and maybe not have Navirou speak for the protag if there is a future game.

---{ 04 / 10 }--- I love Monster Hunter, and I love Pokémon. Based on what Monster Hunter Stories 2 promised, I should’ve been the perfect target audience. And honestly, I did enjoy the game for the first few hours. But then the cracks started to show. The combat system lacks depth—it's basically Rock-Paper-Scissors, except the enemy almost always chooses the same move. That makes battles feel predictable, too easy, and eventually boring. Most of the times, you have braindead NPC's who always do the wrong attack and die to it. And guess what. If they die, you die. Logic. As for the story… it’s just like any other Monster Hunter game. There’s a mysterious virus/environmental change, monsters start going wild, and your job is to stop it. Only without the insane gameplay of any other Monster Hunter game and dragged to the maximum possible time. The equipment progression is also a mess. There are only weapons and armor for a handful of monsters, so I had to wait around 20 hours just to get a noticeable upgrade. It killed any feeling of reward or growth. The interface is pretty bad too - If you want to quit, there is no button for quitting, but instead you have to navigate 3 pages to return to title screen, then press start, then press quit game. I don't know who designed the combat menu, but whenever you press left, the wheel goes right and vise versa. After 50 hours, I still think that's unintuitive as hell. In the end, it feels like they combined the weakest parts of both Monster Hunter and Pokémon. ---{ Graphics }--- ☐ You forget what reality is ☐ Beautiful ☐ Good ☑ Decent ☐ Bad ☐ Don‘t look too long at it ☐ MS-DOS ---{ Gameplay }--- ☐ Very good ☐ Good ☐ It's just gameplay ☑ Mehh ☐ Watch paint dry instead ☐ Just don't ---{ Audio }--- ☐ Eargasm ☐ Very good ☑ Good ☐ Not too bad ☐ Bad ☐ I'm now deaf ---{ Story }--- ☐ No Story ☐ Some lore ☑ Average ☐ Good ☐ Lovely ☐ It'll replace your life ---{ Difficulty }--- ☐ Just press 'W' ☑ Easy ☐ Easy to learn / Hard to master ☐ Significant brain usage ☐ Difficult ☐ Dark Souls ---{ Grind }--- ☐ Nothing to grind ☐ Only if u care about leaderboards/ranks ☐ Isn't necessary to progress ☐ Average grind level ☑ Too much grind ☐ You'll need a second life for grinding ---{ Bugs }--- ☑ Never heard of ☐ Minor bugs ☐ Can get annoying ☐ ARK: Survival Evolved ☐ The game itself is a big terrarium for bugs

I love this game. I love the Monster Hunter games either way. I love Ratha.

I liked the ease of how the game plays, and the combat is similar to classic fantasy games like Final Fantasy and Phantasy Star, and all those other combat turn games. Allowing the player to strategize their next move more efficiently. Unfortunately, I had some issues with the character generator. There was no indication to hit Enter to allow me to begin selecting my features. I can click on the body type, and the various settings, but nothing on screen says, "Press Enter to begin selecting." I had to figure that one out after a few times. Yes, I'm not that great with computers, but I'm no idiot, either. I'm sure it makes a lot of sense to a lot of people, especially those who have followed this game company for years. I don't have that luxury. I just happened to like the Movie, the concept, and wanted to try three of the games. This is by far the better of the three I picked. The controls are a lot easier and the combat system is excellent. I even like the graphics. The only other issue is the audio lag. The English vocals and sound effects for the cinematics complete before the scene is complete. If not for the subtitles, I would have no clue as to what is really going on. Overall, a really good game.

Honestly forgot how amazing this game was. if you like creature collecting/turn based rpg. this game is amazing, it's pretty much all what Pokémon COULD've been. Really looking forward to the inevitable Stories 3.

stories 1 is a very infuriating game, and stories 2 fixes just about every issue i had - better battles with actual patterns, a better gene system, better inventory management, and the list goes on. just a really tight RPG experience all around. very rewarding to get invested in the diverse systems, and the new additions (actual weapon mechanics and partners, amongst others) are very welcome. a strong recommendation from me.

Better than last decade of Pokemon games, and it still somehow has an endgame grind like other monster hunter game, but other than upgrading the hunter, you upgrade the monster.

Not sure why, but this game is completely unplayable for me. I have significantly better specs than the recommended and I am getting sub 10 fps. In addition the game doesn't even recognize inputs from a dualsense controller which is very disappointing. I don't understand how capcom can't even get switch game running properly on PC.

If you're looking for a pokemon type game, this will definitely scratch the itch. The RPS style combat with the monster hunter aesthetic just fits right. The story is typical jrpg fare and the art style works well for the type of game that it's going for. A fun rpg from start to finish.
