“I am vengeance. I am the night. I am... completely hooked.”
Arkham City takes everything Arkham Asylum had to offer and kicks it up to eleven. The combat? Smooth as butter and just as enjoyable. The story? Dark, gritty, and full of memorable twists. The open world? A dangerous playground that feels as alive as it is drenched in Gotham's dirt and charm.
Rocksteady has absolutely nailed what it is like to be Batman, gliding over rooftops, stalking criminals, completing Riddler's puzzles, and breaking bones with signature batman-cape-and-cowl style. Every side mission adds a layer of depth, with cameos from legendary villain like Mr. Freeze, Two-Face, and, of course, as chaotic as ever Joker.
The voice acting, particularly from Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, is nothing short of chef's kiss. If you're a DC fan or just fond of polished action-adventure games, Arkham City is a must-play. Even after all these years, it still holds up beautifully.

If the game keeps crashing on startup, try turning off PhysX. I just wish the game wouldn't break my desktop every time I exit the game.

This game was really and I mean really good: the story was nice, the combat is at first challenging but when you master it it gets super flowy, side quests were unique and fun; even though there were over 400 collectibles I didn't really mind getting most of them were sealed behind a small challenge/puzzle which I really liked. Then there is the new game plus where you can just zoom through with all batman's cool gadgets, the DLC story which is pretty short and then there are Riddler's challenges. There are 12 combat and 12 stealth challenge for each of the four characters and then 12 campaigns which are a combination of 3 challenges where you HAVE to use some debuffs. The combat ones are super easy once you get into the flow but some of the stealth ones are super evil and can take you multiple hours just to beat one of them. I'm not kidding half of the playtime was doing those stupid challenges, which they might have been fun at first but in the end they became such a pain. I would only reccomend to play this game, do not to go for all achievements like I did. Ty if you've read all this yapping.

So far the best Arkham series game I've played at the moment though my first contact were with Arkham Knight on my cousin's house (played for like a half-minute). Worth the 18 BRL on this. 10/10
Batman: Arkham City
Arkham City is exactly what a sequel should be. It builds upon the foundation of its predecessor and adds new layers to every facet of the first game making it so much more ambitious. It's bigger, has more side quests, a longer and more engaging story with twists and turns, more rogues, even different playable characters, more gadgets, better means of traversal, much better bosses, a more sophisticated stealth system and a more fluid and complex combat system while still remaining loyal to the core gameplay of the first game. A perfect sequel and perhaps the greatest superhero game of all time.

To future game devs, take a lesson from this franchise on how to improve your games with every new installment. With that being said, this time, Bruce Wayne gets tossed into a giant ghetto where Hugo Strange plays god commiting Protocol 10 aka genocide. The city is Gotham’s absolute worst block party, where every nutjob you ever punched shows up for revenge. You punch clowns, dodge freaks, and glide over rooftops with some serious anger issues. Atmosphere is great, music is great and you can see the hard work in overall art style and production. And yes, lots of skin-tight cheeks in this game, lots! Anyways, Joker’s dying and spreading Titan poison. Cobblepot's here with a glass bottle jammed in his face. Two-Face flips coins to decide who dies next and once again, annoying fucking gooflord Riddler brings back his sadistic puzzle fetish. Btw, you’ll have to lean hard on stealth and gadgets to survive kidnappings, murders and swarms of goons and gooners as Gotham’s best detective. This game has DLC too, including Harley Quinn’s Revenge, where you play as Batman and Robin after Joker’s death. Plus, you can play as Catwoman in story missions, and as Robin and Nightwing in challenge maps, each with unique combat styles. Skin packs will also turn you into a cosplayer. Another GOTY!

better than the first one. most of the boss fights are pretty lame gameplay wise though. visually all of them are great but most bosses are just simple "stun punch run" bosses. the only memorable one is Mr. Freeze, he was actually a really cool boss.

I didn’t have the pleasure of playing this game when it first released, but I have to say, it truly deserves all the praise it’s received over the years. While some boss battles can feel underwhelming, often boiling down to repetitive patterns, and a few overworld objectives, especially the Riddler trophies, can be tedious, those issues fade away thanks to the moment-to-moment gameplay, which is as tight as ever. The essence of Batman is well preserved and thoughtfully explored throughout.

A legendary Batman experience.
An open world upgrade to Arkham Asylum. Bigger, deeper and more ambitious. Combat is smooth as butter, traversal (grapple/glide) is a blast and the Rogues Gallery is top tier.
Still one of the best superhero games ever, immersive, polished and packed with content.

Batman: Arkham City GOTY Edition is a masterclass in open-world superhero games. Expanding on everything that made Arkham Asylum great, it drops players into a beautifully grim, sprawling section of Gotham teeming with villains, secrets, and atmosphere. The combat is tighter than ever, blending precision and brutality with style. Gliding through the city as Batman feels smooth and empowering, and the story delivers high stakes, emotional depth, and iconic moments throughout. The voice acting, especially from Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, once again elevates the entire experience. With all the included DLC, there’s even more to explore and fight through. It’s not just a great Batman game—it’s one of the best superhero games ever made.
I'd give it a rating of 10/10

Batman: Arkham City GOTY Review – The Ultimate Dark Knight Experience
Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5)
If Arkham Asylum made you feel like Batman, Arkham City lets you live as him. Rocksteady Studios took everything that worked in its predecessor and expanded it into something bigger, bolder, and even more breathtaking. With the Game of the Year Edition, you get the definitive version of one of the greatest superhero games ever made—packed with bonus content, alternate storylines, and more time in the cowl.
As someone who absolutely loved this game, it’s hard to express how well Arkham City delivers on nearly every level.
Gotham Unleashed
The biggest change from Arkham Asylum is the setting. Instead of the claustrophobic halls of a mental institution, you're dropped into a sprawling, walled-off section of Gotham turned into a prison—Arkham City. This isn’t just an open world for the sake of it—it’s carefully designed, atmospheric, and dripping with character.
From the grimy back alleys to the towering gothic architecture, every corner of Arkham City feels dangerous and alive. It’s a playground for Batman, and a hellscape for everyone else.
Gliding across rooftops, diving into alleyways, or perching above terrified thugs never gets old. Exploration is meaningful here—Riddler trophies, side missions, and Easter eggs are everywhere, encouraging you to truly engage with the world.
Gameplay That Soars
Arkham City refines the core gameplay loop to near perfection:
Combat is still the best in the genre. The freeflow system returns with more gadgets, more variety, and tighter animations. You can seamlessly switch between gadgets mid-combo, making Batman feel faster and more tactical than ever.
Stealth (Predator) sections are just as thrilling, with more verticality and smarter enemy AI. The sense of empowerment and fear you instill in enemies is unmatched.
Detective Mode and side content give players lots to engage with between main missions, without feeling like filler. Every side quest—from Deadshot's murders to Zsasz's creepy phone calls—adds layers to the world.
A Deeper, Darker Story
The narrative in Arkham City is bigger and more ambitious. What begins as a mystery surrounding Hugo Strange and the secretive "Protocol 10" evolves into a twisting tale involving almost every major villain in Batman’s rogue’s gallery. Joker, Two-Face, Penguin, Ra's al Ghul, Mr. Freeze, and many more make appearances—each with a memorable role to play.
And of course, Mark Hamill’s performance as the Joker is nothing short of legendary. His story arc in this game is powerful and tragic, culminating in one of the best endings in video game history.
Meanwhile, Kevin Conroy once again delivers a commanding, grounded performance as Batman, anchoring the emotional weight of the story.
GOTY Edition Bonuses
The Game of the Year Edition adds a ton of content:
Harley Quinn’s Revenge DLC – A gripping epilogue with both Batman and Robin as playable characters.
Challenge maps and alternate costumes, letting you play with style.
Catwoman’s Storyline – Integrated into the main game, adding a fresh perspective and gameplay variety.
These additions make this version the best way to experience everything Arkham City has to offer.
Final Thoughts
Batman: Arkham City GOTY is not just a sequel—it’s a statement. It proves that superhero games can have deep narratives, exhilarating gameplay, and artistic direction. Every moment feels crafted with care, respect for the source material, and a desire to push boundaries.
If Asylum was a bold first step, City is a heroic leap.
Pros:
Rich, immersive open world
Perfected combat and stealth mechanics
Incredible voice acting and writing
Diverse and iconic villain lineup
Loads of extra content in GOTY edition
Cons:
Some side missions can be easy to miss
A few boss fights still lean on repetition
Verdict:
Batman: Arkham City GOTY is the ultimate Batman experience. It’s emotionally gripping, mechanically satisfying, and filled with unforgettable moments. A true masterpiece in gaming—and one that every fan should experience.

By far the best game in the batman arkham series. Mark Hamill knocks it out of the park with his voice acting for the character of Joker. Who knew the actor for Luke Skywalker could play such an awesome villain. The batman voice actor is equally awesome, and the dynamic between the joker and batman is top notch. Story is some of the best I've seen in gaming history, and the game improves upon literally everything that its predecessor had. 10/10!!!

Arkham City is essentially a big upgrade to Arkham Asylum. The biggest difference being the map's upgraded scale, allowing for much more diverse interactions with the world
But, much like Asylum, I recommend this game mostly to Batman fans. Combat and movement are still lacking, although more optimized compared to the last game. The story also feels lackluster to me and not as engaging as Asylum's
One big improvement is the creativity of the puzzles of the Riddler challenges/trophies, which is something I enjoyed doing this time instead of feeling like a chore
The boss fights are the most noticeable improvement. Pretty much every boss fight is on pair with Poison Ivy from Arkham Asylum, and some are even better, with much more challenging mechanics to beat. The Ra's al Ghul fight is great
This game is good but the evaluations are a bit overrated in my opinion. This is considered the best game in the franchise but the more I play it, the more I think that consideration is the product of nostalgia

Combat system is complicated enough to be interesting but not too crazy. Vibes are off the charts.
Dialogue is sometimes cheesy but always in a comic book sort of way. After a few hours you just feel part of the world.
I also liked that there were AR trials so that you could learn how to glide effortlessly throughout Arkham City. I really FELT like Batman after completing those.

This batman game take the first and made it better. More open world style, nice secondary missions to do, lots of collectibles.
Map is not that big but I think it has an accurate size and with batman it is really nice to fly; not the same with catwoman (I didn't like it).
Missions with catwoman add a different touch and gameplay to the game, but I prefer batman it is much better to travel across the map and fight enemies.
I think the boss fights are not that difficult as the first game but are nice once. In final words I recommend this game if you liked the first one.

I picked up the trilogy when they were on sale for dead cheap and man I haven't gotten to play Arkham Knight yet but man was this game good. Solid 8/10 and am currently trying to 100%. Important notes before I start the review: This game is absolutely gorgeous and there are many locations and views that are honestly almost breathtaking. If you’re like me and love to take screenshots, then naturally you’ll want to take some. However, the HUD gets in the way and there’s no in-game option to turn it off. In order to do this, follow this guide: https://nohud.fandom.com/wiki/Batman:_Arkham_City_No_Hud. That’s about it.
Batman: Arkham City is a third-person action-adventure game and sequel to Batman: Arkham Asylum. After the break-out at Arkham, a new area was created for the criminal dregs of Gotham: Arkham City. An enclosed area of Gotham reserved only for dangerous villains and their leagues of brutish thugs, all being surveilled by Dr. Hugo Strange and his well-armed mercenaries. Bruce Wayne, one of Gotham’s most notable billionaires and playboys, opposes Arkham City and wants it shut down and openly protests against it, but finds himself thrown into the open-air prison by Strange’s mercenaries. Bruce finds out about the mysterious “Protocol 10” and, donning his gear airdropped into Arkham City by Alfred, vows to stop Strange before he can initiate it. Glide across rooftops, fight scores of thugs, and explore the grimy and violent streets of the massive open-air prison. Come face-to-face with iconic villains like the Joker, Penguin, and Two-Face as they fight each other for control of the city, using their goons as foot soldiers. Complete a variety of challenges including tracking down a notorious serial killer and destroying vats of Venom. Level up your gear and collect new gadgets as you battle villains and uncover Strange’s plan. Also play as Catwoman, making use of bolas, caltrops, and her iconic whip to defeat her foes.
In terms of gadgets, Arkham City isn’t all too different from its predecessor, you make use of many of the same ones (e.g., Batarangs, the Line Launcher, the Batclaw, etc.). However, there are some new ones. For instance, Batman has access to freeze bombs that can be used not just to freeze enemies, but also to create platforms for him to use on water. He now has a Firearm Jammer, the purpose of which is self-explanatory. Other than those aforementioned things, Batman has access to upgrades that weren’t available in the first game, such as an upgrade for his Grapnel Gun which allows him to accelerate while using it, giving him enough of a boost to take off right after which is useful for quick escapes and completing time-based challenges. One more upgrade I’d like to mention is one for the Line Launcher which creates a tightrope that Batman can walk on. This is particularly useful for observing certain surroundings, getting to hard-to-reach areas, and preparing ambushes on groups of enemies. I should also mention that the quickfire function now works with more gadgets.
New Game+ is there instead of a free roam mode after completing the main game, so you can replay the whole main story with all the upgrades and progress you made in your first playthrough. The whole of Arkham City is basically a giant hub that offers a variety of side missions to do when you want to take a break from the main plot. These involve simple things like saving innocents from thugs or destroying vats of Venom, but also more unique ones like tracking down a ruthless serial killer by tracing his phone calls. These are fun and definitely an improvement from the first game, which had no side missions like this.
There are certain parts of the game where you play as Catwoman. She differs from Batman in many ways, being smaller and more agile, but also more vulnerable with far fewer gadgets and upgrades. She uses a whip for traversal instead of a grappling hook, which I didn’t find to be as enjoyable. That being said, the whip is useful for disorienting enemies in combat. She has bolas that can be used to ensnare enemies’ legs and make them trip over, as well as caltrops that make them stumble and fall. That’s about it. She also has Thief Vision, which I found useless. There’s also a Harley Quinn expansion, but I haven’t bothered with it.
Enemies are mostly the same as in the first game: standard goons with fists, others with weapons like pipes and bats, goons with guns, etc. That being said, there are some new ones here: enemies with riot shields that you have to jump over, enemies in thick body armour that can absorb much more punishment. I should also mention that enemies in this game have better AI than in Asylum. For example, they’re able to pick up weapons off the ground mid-fight to use against you. All of this makes for combat that is more dynamic and challenging. The boss fights here are definitely not disappointing. Each one feels unique, reasonably difficult, and very satisfying upon completion. Each one incentivises you to use different tactics and puts you on the edge of your seat.
Speaking of the story, it’s great. Strange is an amazing villain and having Corey Burton voice him was absolutely the perfect choice. The story brings the Joker back, after he was humiliated by Batman in the first game. He manages to outsmart Batman and put him in a desperate situation, raising the stakes and making for an interesting narrative where the villain and hero are forced into somewhat of a quasi-alliance.
As for Strange, I have to say that I did actually agree with his ultimate plan, and I genuinely think it would’ve done Gotham a lot of good. Still, Batman’s opposition to it was kind of understandable considering his philosophy and I liked how the two clashed ideologically.
The several twists throughout the story are all really well done, especially the last one.
Visuals, as I mentioned before, are amazing. The cityscape of Gotham in the background with helicopters and blimps flying up above, the Art Deco style very prominent, etc. Fantastic. Many of the interior environments (especially Wonder City and the museum) are also very enjoyable to admire. Brilliant art direction and attention to detail as well as amazing graphical fidelity (especially for 2011), can’t go wrong with that combination.
Soundtrack is fantastic, especially the main theme which is definitely one of my all-time favourites. It’s so good, in fact, I could imagine Hans Zimmer composing it. That’s all I have to say about the OST, really.
Now onto the negatives, pretty much every game has them and Arkham City is no exception. The combat, as fun as it is generally and as improved as it is from the previous game, still feels quite button-mashy. I also didn’t enjoy the Catwoman segments all that much. They weren’t terrible, mind you, but every time the game got to one, I was a bit bored. There’s actually one last Catwoman segment after you beat the main story, but I never bothered finishing it. Another complaint I have is that some of the Riddler trophy puzzles feel like boring filler and there are over 400 of those collectibles, which is ridiculous. The anti-aliasing also doesn’t work very well. When I chose the MSAA, some surfaces would have these weird textures and light reflections that looked fuzzy, which was quite distracting. Then I chose FXAA and it was better, albeit with some noticeable jagged edges. Two more little complaints I have that may seem trivial, but I still want to mention: No longer are there secret items you can find relating to various Batman villains. In the first game, you got new entries in the database by finding items belonging to a wide variety of Batman villains. You did this while using the Riddler’s clues as leads. This was incredibly fun, and I loved discovering the cute little details. In this game, you instead just find trophies, which is underwhelming. There are also no detailed descriptions of WayneTech upgrades.
To conclude, Batman: Arkham City is a fantastic game and a very worthy sequel to Asylum.
Final verdict: 8.5/10 “I will enjoy dissecting your brain, Miss Kyle.”

Batman: Arkham City is a fantastic follow-up to Arkham Asylum. The game works perfectly fine on Window's 11 and shouldn't require any further steps outside of the standard install process to set up and play. Definitely would advise playing with a controller to best enjoy the experience as well.

I absolutely love this game. Still my favourite of the Arkham games with fantastic story, combat, traversal, side content, challenges and so much more.

Batman Arkham City expands on its predecessor with a larger open world, deeper combat, and a more intricate storyline. The game's setting—a sprawling section of Gotham turned into a prison—is atmospheric and packed with secrets, side missions, and iconic villains. Combat is fluid and satisfying, with new gadgets and enemy types adding depth and challenge. Voice performances, especially from Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill, elevate the emotional weight of the narrative. With its rich content and polished gameplay, Arkham City stands as one of the best superhero games ever made.

Hands down my favorite Arkham game. Asylum was incredible but City took what was great from the first installment and really dialed it up to 11. No matter how much I play this game I find myself coming back to it every few years or so just to fly around and clean up street trash as the Caped Crusader!
