Hi. I just started playing this game. I am following the paths and it seems to be new player friendly. There are alot of different servers, I kind of wish they would combine some so the worlds felt more full. I currently am a mage but I can switch at will to warrior and archer. I don't have alot of money but I feel like after I finish the quests maybe I will? I chose the hardcore ironman route so I believe if I die my account dies as well.
I also like Dead by Daylight.

The latest update is a shameless cash grab.
The hero pass removes in game content and rewards earnable through gameplay and replaces them with a battle pass system that is: less rewarding, significantly higher time investment, and skippable with in game transactions.
Do not recommend if you even vaguely value your time and money.

I have been a lifelong player of runescape, I started playing when I was 8. This game has brought 100's of hours of fun to my life. Well worth playing, solo, multiplayer. I have met several lifelong friends from this game and also learned a new language from playing on the old German servers.

Game is dying. go play OSRS and wait for the RS3 private servers to kick on in a few years. Fuck Jamflex and fuck the entire dev team for driving the game through the dirt by not listening to the community and milking the game for the cash cow they eventually designed it to be.
Convert all your rs3 gp to OSRS gp and then restart the grind but BETTER. ~169 hours on steam but over 4k on my main and 3k on each of my two alts. money is of no object to me in RS3 anymore, release of necro bumped my total wealth beyond 15B in just coin not including any unsold loot and sets for Ras. Game became braindead, money became easy by the butt load, after being able to afford near anything in the game save for a few uber rares... nothing left.
I'm 99 all with a few 120s, over 15 years played between all accounts. one of the best memories I have of my father was when he showed me RS back in 2009. EOC ruined the game by not swapping from the tick system and then they shit on us with the squeal of fortune bs that turned into treasure hunter with arguably more game breaking/FOMO rewards.
TL;DR jamflex only wants money for rs3 playbase to fun the ever so steady playerbase of OSRS. fuck jamflex. youd be better off paying the library a monthly fee to stare at the wall for 8 hours a day instead, you'd end up with more satisfaction.

Very enjoyable game, I have over 3 years of logged in playing time over the course of approximately 15 years. This game has taken away many real life opportunities away from me because of it's addictiveness. If your seeking a game with many goals which cannot be completed without a certain amount of RNG or luck mechanism for obtaining in game drops then this is the game for you. Despite the many things to do, they are blocked by RNG.
Despite that over the years the game has introduced a "Pay to win" mechanism which players can buy XP which is the major downfall of this game, and one of the core reasons the there have been talks about getting loot boxes or loot crates banned as many minors have been buying them without parents permission. Many of the holiday events are very time heavy as well has major updates require time investment and can't be fast forward or skipped. It's got good graphics, ability to have pets, familiars, level up skills, complete achivements, compete with "runescore" against other players.
The PVP aspect of the wilderness is dead as well as PVP in general, this is a very PVM heavy game, with near end game PVM content involving a degree of elitism to be instilled to get fast times or fast kill times of bosses and monsters. This game is fun and you will meet many players that can be your lifelong friends throughout the journey but in all honesty wouldn't recommend due to what it has taken away from me in real life but at the same time it's just so fascinating to be able to login and chillax with the community so would recommend on that hand.

I've played Runescape way back since 2005, before Runescape 2 and 3. There's always a part of me that yearns to play this game, no matter how old I get. The grind has become immense compared to when I first played, and the micro transactions have kept me from playing any more. Sure, there's an ironman mode you can play to avoid that for the most part, but micro transactions have still become a fundamental feature of the game itself which takes away from the grind many of us suffered in the early days, before you could basically buy experience or items from Jagex themselves.
Do I recommend this and why?
No! => Even though there's lots of content that's good and there's always new content being added, I find enough about the game off-putting to not play it very much. Enjoyed it a lot more in the past than I do now. I don't like how long it takes to accomplish some things and that there's like no end in sight. I'm not a fan of the combat system. I think the game was better when membership was ALL that was pushed onto people

i absolutely love this game, there is a lot to it and a lot to learn but once you do start getting into the game you will get addicted, tons of life skills and a bunch of combat skills to train, if you're looking for a fun mmo that can be challenging at times this is the game for you :)

I have been playing this game upwards of thirteen years on and off, and have over 1000 hours logged as of recently. There is something about RS that I keep coming back to, its like and old friend that you go months without seeing, but when you meet each other again and hang out, you remember why you were such good friends. There are lots of issues with the game, but they are overshadowed by the vast amount of content waiting to be discovered.

do you all realize if steam added played time prior to this game being on steam... i know i personally would shoot up 10k+ hours... with my character turning 20 years old in a few months... scary part of this is... i may have been around this game that long and yet im probably only middle of the pack on time played

If you played Runescape back in the day, you'll either love coming back to it with all the quality of life improvements, new quests and skills, and graphical updates, or you'll hate it because of all the microtransactions, cosmetics, and limited-time events.

Picture it. The year was 1776, America had just broken free of the British Crown. But little did we know that they were developing Runescape, during the same year! Over 200 years later and we keep coming back to it. Despite it's poor graphics and account security, it keeps providing endless hours of fun.
Best of all, it's free!

Mtx this and Mtx that. There are certainly some things that seem to have crept up in this game. I can't speak to the f2p aspect of the game as even from the early days of the game I always paid for membership as it just offered SO much bang for your buck and only continues to do so. Is the game perfect? nah? Is the game going to give you that feeling of satisfaction over grinding hours and hours and just watching levels go up as your brain feels good seeing it? yes.

It's kind of fun to know that the game you played as a kid is still alive, but... Boy howdy, someone left the micro-transaction tap running before leaving the house.
If you decide to come back, be prepared for an absolute flood of real-world cash grabs, and to be treated like dirt by the company if your only game payment is a monthly subscription to the members' world.

Having been a lifelong player, the "Hero Pass" has been the final nail in the coffin for this MTX machine.
Things to look forward to in Runescape 3:
1. Pop-ups that beg you to spend your money while releasing content at a snail's pace
2. Graphics that are poorer than most Steam Indie games and tick-based combat
3. One of the highest monthly subscription prices of any MMORPG to date
4. Gambling-style daily keys that do everything short of promise a superb prize if you'd only buy a few more keys
5. A battle pass that will take you approx. 11 hours a day for 3 months in order to obtain the highest level
6. A "premier" membership option that requires a large down-payment for a year - locked in
7. Did I mention the battle pass? Also premier membership? Guess what? It doesn't speed or give you tangible bonuses! You still get to slog for 11 hours daily or spend over $200 dollars to complete the 3-month rotating battle pass!
If you want to experience all new "content" in the form of the slop that Jagex is pushing, it comes at the low low price of around $860 a year - what a steal! Don't forget, you can also buy "bonds" to trade your real world cash for in-game gold so you'll be able to buy inflated degradable items while ruining the game's economy for others! Real winner here.

Negative thumbing because the Steam Membership options do not include access to Premier Membership, despite already paying $20 more for a yearly membership. That said, it does come with some extra microtransaction goodies. My membership coincidentally ran out this week and I will not be re-subscribing.
Experience wise, I am a top 200 rank Necromancy player - so yes, I know what I'm talking about.
Premier Membership became even more important with the Hero Pass update. If you purchase the version on Steam, you will not have access to a year of Hero Pass unless you buy in-game bonds (~180m GP for 3 months of access) or for real-world money. That's up to 720m of hard-earned in-game money just to get the same feature included with a cheaper subscription option.
As for how long this would take? Most players should be able to find 7-10m money makers fairly easily. A very crafting and experienced player should be able to hit a ceiling of about 20-30m. Even with the best AFK money makers in the game, that'd require me to play about 24-36 hours just to get the same benefit while I'm already playing $20 more per year.
No thanks, Jagex.
