Dymension, is a Action Horror game, about a research lab placing human sentience into android mannequins. The player comes into the laboratory as a new worker as the laboratory falls into chaos, the mannequins break out and become hostile to the player abducting them. As of the review Dymension is currently just the first part of the game.
Currently the game comes in two parts, the research labs and the mansion. Both sides of the game have a focus on puzzles and item collection, with there also being simple combat in the mansion. The game is mainly puzzle based, with the need to find door access codes or by completing logic puzzles for fixing control panels. Neither are difficult within the game, and a player can simply spam the control panels to get the answer to them. In the manor there are other puzzles, though none should give the player much challenge, with items being not difficult to find.
The Horror in the game feels lacking, in the Laboratory, we see the mannequins have very dynamic movements. Through accessing the ceiling or monitoring the player, this does not keep up through the rest of the game, with the most terror built in the game is through being overpowered and outnumbered. Even the sounds of Mannequins scuttling through the ceiling are gone.
Combat is a mix, enemies are ever really harmless and slow, or will rush you and quickly kill you if they get close. The player does have access to ranged weaponry and through the first part of the game should not run out of ammo should they just use it on the more aggressive mannequins. Save your ammo till they start charging you, all others are really slow and you can simply bonk them to death.
The game has a few bugs as of the review, like the first mannequin that charges the player in the house, dealt no damage to me and instead just rammed its head into my chest till I disposed of it. Beyond that most of the bugs I found in the demo had been fixed, and I had no other problems.
Overall the game is just the intro, and is a good start of the game, although the laboratory feels a lot more polished than the rest of the game. The cliffhanger at the end is interesting, though it felt stronger at the end of the demo. I hope we will see the rest of the game, as it is an interesting story, it just feels that the narrative was lacking once we were in the manor.
If you are having any difficulty with the puzzles in the game my playthrough is below:
