Just barely recommending this one at the moment. Legend of Feather, or Feather of Legend as the game's art seems to imply, is yet another bullet heaven title, this one going for a Chinese mythology aesthetic. The way it's presented is very reminiscent of 2000's browser games and 2D MMOs, with not entirely well fitting elements meshed together and intentionally choppy animations. It's endearing, in a way, though not all that exciting. Similarly, the core gameplay is nowhere near the bests of the genre, though it gets the job done as soon as the player finds meaningful upgrades. I like how the player can explore a hub to find everything they unlocked, walk directly towards new stages, interact with NPCs and more, it definitely gives the playable arenas and challenges we're facing a bit more of personality. The game feels rather unfinished though, as the difficulty has sudden spikes and is very heavily depending on the RNG. The upgrade system is pretty fast to unlock things at, but it took me a bit to find due to confusing menus and broken translations from Chinese. Going back to the difficulty, the bosses carry such a crazy amount of health that you are very likely to rotate around 2-3 of them at the same time since you don't have the time to beat one before the next arrives, though their limited speed and firepower from a distance makes it somewhat manageable still. And yet, with creative and powerful weaponry, a nice lore and a somewhat charming if cheap presentation, I find myself gravitating towards this one from time to time, and I hope that it'll one day feel like a truly finished game. Which it certainly isn't meant to be, right now, as it's still in Early Access. EDIT a week later: A recent patch rebalanced a lot of things, added a much welcome 2x speed mode and improved the general feel of the game. It's coming along very nicely all in all, though there's still some unfinished translations around. Bullet Heaven Fandom review #48. A fun survivor bullet heaven game with old style graphics. Charming heroes and enemies with decent amount of upgradable skills, unlocks, characters and meta progression. Recommened.
