Devil Slayer - Raksasi is a top-down action game with procedurally generated dungeons, profound roguelike elements, and intuitive soul-like fighting. It's a fair and challenging game, dodging, timing, striking, you need to master them all to fight your way out of this cursed world.
Underrated roguelike
Where should I start? In comparison with other action rogue-likes I've played, the delay between the input and the animation is perceptible, which feels interesting. (Let's take Hades, where Zagreus smashes or charges the attack right after you push the button, and you do phew-phew-boom; in Raksasi you feel that split second between pushing the button and character attacks more obviously.) And that makes Raksasi feel more hastless. My description may be poor, but let me make the statement - this feature doesn't give any lack of dynamic. It just can make a very beautiful battle between you and some hard enemy when you may dance around waiting for each other to make a bad move and make a window for a punishing counterattack. What else highlights Raksasi among other rogue-likes? Setting. Not many good of them have a quality and distinctive Asian background. Yes, Asian - not just Chinese, Korean and Japanese, but also Indian and a bit of Arabic folklore, monsters and characters. And pretty good crossbreed together. The art style looks really good. By the way, the story is more like a background to what's happening and why. Seven playable characters, which one has unique abilities. Many weapons, many items and loot. Every heroine has her own soul idol where you can place different soul charms. About the difficulty levels, and when you'll find yourself adapted to the hardest, you have 14 trial tokens to make it almost impossible with all them active. When you start to feel too confident, you make a mistake and die easily. And it will take your time to learn the hardest challenge. Which is a satisfying to complete! Overall, the game is good even if you haven't played rogue-likes before, the mechanics are easy to understand, hard to master.
