Rise of the Argonauts

[h3] Rating 8.6/10 [/h3] [h3] Summary: [/h3] Was just looking back through all of my old games I completed and found this gem amongst the rubble. I remember going to my local GameStop back in 2008/2009 and handpicking this off the shelf and having such good memories that I ended up redownloading it on steam back in ~2020. What a shame they took it off the Steam Library. This game is the personification of what you don't see anymore in modern era game development. Over the years, so many games have sacrificed story, emotion, and the feeling of a unique world with shoddy third-rate tactics such as battle passes, gacha, etc. Half of the time it feels like you have to have 17 Google tabs open to know where to find anything in modern games. However, in Rise of the Argonauts you play an epic tale, fully immersed, and by the end of it, you feel as though you lived an entire alternate lifetime. Smooth, flowing combat based on the ancient tale of Jason's quest, beautiful zones with loyal companions that evoked emotion..you simply had to play it in it's prime to understand.

I've played this all the way through twice now (other time on Xbox). It might not be the prettiest game, but it is definitively one of the best stories in a game. I love the world, the story, and character interactions, that are akin to talking to shipmates in Mass Effect. This Argonauts game has a severely underrated story and characters. The characters should be more popular in pop culture, if only. The gameplay is nothing special. It is a weaker form of the modern Arkham games, but the characters, their stories, and the world building is amazing.
