sale info: goes for 20 USD often, and chronicles has gone for 10.
I just play zombies mode and usually modded with the Zombies Weaponry Overhaul if on an official map so i dont have to see the scifi guns. you can actually save a loit of space by uninstalling the gamemodes you dont play. I uninstalled the multiplayer and campaign as the modes are considered DLCs in steam's properties menu.

The best Call of Duty Zombies of all time. A near flawless map roster, great mechanics, and the inclusion of the Steam Workshop gives the game endless replay ability. This game is worth the full price just for the Zombies alone. Revelations is the only "weak" map I would say but given the sheer amount of wonder weapons and things to do on that map, once you start a game and get into it, it can be very fun too. This truly was the peaks of Zombies in my opinion.
The Campaign, not so much.

Still one of the most consistent and enjoyable zombie experiences. With a plethora of official maps, there is quite a bit of content to sink your teeth into without even taking into account all the custom/modded maps and content the community has been building for years. All around one of the most complete packages for a zombies experience today (since that's what most people would be buying this title for years after release).

Good zombies but in my opinion it's very over rated. I loved playing multiplayer on Playstation but scared of hackers on PC. I want to try campaign next, comment if it's not worth playing please :)

5 star - Graphics and gameplay.
4 star - Story campaign - It was ok and bit of drag after 50%.
2 star - The selection of guns was super clunky and restricted. None of the guns felt satisfactory. Hardly used its Core upgrade features. Mostly the core feature that shows enemies on pressing 3 was very useful. The weapon load out, gun design features appeared to be a system to make players grind for basic upgrades. The secondary weapon was never used.

Best Black Ops game ever released. Only contender is Black Ops 2, but now that all the zombies maps from that are in this game with mods, it's 100% the best.

Black Ops 3 is the most memorable and fun COD in the entire franchise and it's not even close. While the campaign is lacking severely, the multiplayer and zombies are the most polished and refined on top of being genuinely amazing. No other game does it better. No other COD has as much originality and diversity as this one while maintaining its structural integrity. I think this game should be as popular as Fortnite but unfortunately it came out at a time where it wasn't much appreciated. If it dropped today it would be huge

Got this game to play Zombies with friends. We're not able to join each other because "The lobby is not joinable" in game. All tried every option available online, with nothing fixing the problem. It's an okay game to play alone, but not the ideal experience.

Ah, *Call of Duty: Black Ops III*, a game that, despite the relentless march of time, continues to stand as a testament to an era of FPS brilliance that many believe the franchise has yet to surpass in sheer depth, replayability, and mechanical refinement. Even now, over a decade after its initial release, this game remains an enduring monument to the peak of Treyarch’s innovation, a title that many would argue represents the pinnacle of what the *Call of Duty* franchise has ever achieved across all its game modes—Campaign, Multiplayer, and, of course, the legendary Zombies experience.
## **Campaign: A Misunderstood Masterpiece or a Sleeper Hit Ahead of Its Time?**
While many players often dismiss *Black Ops III*’s campaign as one of the weaker links in the series due to its unconventional storytelling, nonlinear narrative structure, and an abstract, almost *Inception*-like descent into psychological warfare, those who have taken the time to dive into its complexities understand that it is anything but shallow. Treyarch deviated from the bombastic, straightforward action-movie approach that defined previous entries and instead delivered a cerebral, almost philosophical exploration of consciousness, artificial intelligence, and the blurred lines between human perception and digital manipulation.
At its core, the story revolves around the concept of the Direct Neural Interface (DNI), a piece of cybernetic technology that allows soldiers to interface directly with machines, the battlefield, and, ultimately, each other’s minds. This opens up a Pandora’s box of ethical dilemmas, existential questions, and—by the latter half of the game—outright surrealist horror as the player character begins to experience the collapse of their own sense of reality. Many players dismissed this as “confusing,” but for those willing to dissect its layers, *Black Ops III*’s campaign was one of the most ambitious narratives Treyarch ever attempted, tackling themes of identity, autonomy, and the dangers of unchecked technological advancement.
Mechanically, the campaign was also one of the most customizable and replayable in *Call of Duty* history. For the first time, the traditional class-based loadout system was abandoned in favor of a persistent progression system that allowed players to tailor their character’s abilities, weapons, and cybernetic enhancements to their preferred playstyle. This effectively turned the campaign into a hybrid of a traditional FPS and a light RPG, where every mission could be approached in wildly different ways depending on how players had built their operative. The inclusion of cooperative play added another dimension, ensuring that no two playthroughs ever felt exactly the same.
## **Multiplayer: The Apex of Movement-Based Combat**
When it comes to the multiplayer experience, *Black Ops III* is often cited as the game that perfected the advanced movement era of *Call of Duty*. While its predecessor, *Advanced Warfare*, introduced exo-movement, it often felt chaotic and unrefined, leading to erratic gunfights and an overall less controlled experience. *Black Ops III*, on the other hand, refined these mechanics into a fluid, parkour-like movement system that emphasized momentum, map control, and strategic positioning rather than just raw twitch reflexes.
The introduction of the specialist system was another groundbreaking addition, bringing a *hero shooter* element to *Call of Duty* for the first time. Each specialist had their own unique abilities and weapons, adding an extra layer of strategy to engagements. Whether it was Ruin’s Gravity Spikes, Prophet’s Tempest, or Seraph’s Annihilator, these abilities provided players with opportunities for game-changing plays without completely disrupting the game’s balance. The specialists added personality and backstory to the multiplayer experience, making it feel more like an extension of the campaign’s universe rather than just a disconnected competitive mode.
The maps in *Black Ops III* were meticulously designed to complement the movement system, offering a blend of verticality, wall-running routes, and traditional three-lane structures that kept matches dynamic. The weapon balance was among the best in *Call of Duty* history, with each gun having a distinct identity and purpose. Even years later, players still praise the feel of the M8A7, the sheer dominance of the VMP, and the versatility of the KN-44.
The progression system was also one of the most satisfying the series had ever implemented. The return of the Pick 10 system allowed for endless experimentation, while the prestige system, complete with the ability to keep one permanent unlock, gave players a reason to grind for months. Even the supply drop system, controversial as it was, didn't overshadow the core experience the way it did in later entries.
## **Zombies: The Definitive Undead Experience**
And then, of course, there is *Zombies*.
There is no debate—*Black Ops III* delivered the most ambitious, content-rich, and mechanically deep Zombies mode in *Call of Duty* history. Not only did it launch with the masterfully complex and atmospheric *Shadows of Evil*, but it also brought back the entire *Zombies Chronicles* collection, allowing players to relive iconic maps with a fresh coat of graphical and mechanical polish.
Each map in *Black Ops III* Zombies was a carefully crafted puzzle box, filled with intricate Easter eggs, layered storytelling, and deeply satisfying gameplay loops. From the cosmic horror-inspired madness of *Shadows of Evil* to the Norse mythology-infused grandeur of *Der Eisendrache*, every experience was distinct, memorable, and endlessly replayable.
The introduction of Gobblegums added another strategic layer, allowing players to craft builds that suited their preferred style of play. Whether it was the game-changing “Perkaholic,” the safety net of “Near Death Experience,” or the sheer hilarity of “Secret Shopper,” these consumables gave Zombies an almost roguelike quality where every run felt unique.
The storyline, which had been building since *World at War*, reached its crescendo in *Black Ops III*, delivering some of the most mind-bending and emotionally resonant moments in *Call of Duty* history. The characters—Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo, and Nikolai—finally had their arcs completed, culminating in the grand, tragic finale of *Revelations*. The sense of finality, the depth of the lore, and the sheer complexity of the Easter eggs made *Black Ops III* Zombies feel like the culmination of everything Treyarch had been building for nearly a decade.
## **A Timeless Classic**
To this day, *Black Ops III* remains one of the most played and discussed *Call of Duty* titles, and for good reason. It wasn't just another annual installment—it was a game that pushed the boundaries of what *Call of Duty* could be. It delivered a campaign that dared to be different, a multiplayer that perfected advanced movement, and a Zombies experience that became the gold standard for the franchise.
Even in an era where newer titles boast higher graphical fidelity, more expansive battle royale modes, and larger player counts, there is something about *Black Ops III* that keeps pulling players back. Whether it’s nostalgia, gameplay depth, or just the undeniable fact that Treyarch was firing on all cylinders, one thing is certain: *Call of Duty: Black Ops III* is a masterpiece that has more than earned its place in gaming history.

This game is so fucking underrated it's not even funny. People would shit on the games story so much but they were over looking the beauty to it because of how raged they were for getting another fast paced jet-pack game. The zombies is amazing especially with the custom maps. Playing the story with a friend is HIGHLY recommended as me and a friend played through the entire campaign in one sitting. I recommend playing with a friend not only for how fun it is but we discussed the story and connecting the dots and the story made so much sense and really wasn't all that hard to understand. Now I get it people's attention span is that of a three year old now but when ur playing the story ur going to need to pay attention to dialogue from as far to the beginning of the damn game. Trust me just pay attention and everything will unravel. Before, I said that this game wasn't worthy for the Black Ops title but after finishing the game again, I was so wrong. The game 100% deserves that title, as for Black Ops 4, that's a different story or the lack there of a story in that damn game. If u haven't played this game or maybe haven't played in so so long like me and my friend, I really recommend to get this game again and give it another shot. If not for the story then do it for the kickass zombies. Now to conclude this very long review I will quote the most touching quote in the game by my idol, "Outcome? Train go boom." - That one guy from Law and Order

I simply cannot recommend this game, at least on MacOS.
First of all, online does not work; the latest unofficial patch also does not work, and a workaround by creating an empty mod does not work, at least for me.
Without online, you're left with campaigns and zombies. Offline zombies are boring. I remember playing them with my friends, but alone is just mech.
The campaign is fun to play; the story is interesting, but even for me (a sci-fi fan), it is presented in a bizarre, too-extended psychedelic way. There is low enemy variety, and, in general, the campaign is short (that is not bad. Otherwise, it would be too dull).
The most annoying part is a clumsy weapon and special ability selection: sometimes it feels that "the next weapon" switch is just another random weapon, and until you select a special ability that you want, you will already be dead.
The graphics were optimized well, and the max settings and 2k on the M4 Pro were very smooth.
It is hard to justify the insane 112 GB size on the disk for such a small amount of content, much less than Titanfall 2 (63 GB)—I removed Black Ops just after finishing the campaign.

Get the T7 patch so you don't suddenly get hacked but the game somehow holds up after all these years. Recently did the Origins EE solo which was fun. I can't really speak on anything other than the zombies, but I haven't heard good things as of late due to the game being old and vulnerable to hacks.
Custom zombies maps are really cool, and in my experience tend to fall into a few categories:
1. PEAK. Typically have like main map quality, an easter egg, side easter eggs, and a custom wonder weapon.
2. Really good map design, but no custom weapons.
3. Really good map design with custom weapons and sidequests, however insanely easy for whatever reason.
I would also like to add that the community is making these maps for basically free all things considered, so please be grateful for any content you do get.

(Have over 500 hours on PS4, prestiged several times in both multiplayer and zombies)
Yeah its the best zombies no doubt. Shadows just diffs pretty much any map you can think of except maybe Origins.. but its okay because that's on here too.
They really don't deserve money for these crazy prices on a 10 year old game, but for what its worth, its worth. Especially since there is so much custom content via the workshop.
DLC wise you'll be okay missing Zetsubou and Revelations, but do not miss Der Eisendrache and defintely do NOT sleep on Gorod Krovi. Don't waste money on the Giant unless you are really dying to play Der Reise with Gobblegums and BO3 guns. If you just go to the workshophere are much better versions of Der Reise. (Declassified is incredible).
Multiplayer was cool back in the day but I honestly have no idea if people still play it.
Campaign is really really mid BUT it gets points for being co-op.
All in all, I think if any CoD were ever to get a 10/10, this is it. Just really good game design and I wish they would go back to this kind of formula.

Absolute must have for fans of custom zombies or just zombies in general. You'll be absolutely spoiled for content with the hundreds, if not thousands of maps on display in the Steam workshop (which makes everything conveniently one click away from being in your game, unlike WAW)! Something like T7 patch is basically needed, if not for security issues then just for the performance improvements, and is pretty easy to find and install as well. All in all, come to BO3 if you love zombies (both new and old).
If you're an MP guy, I would probably wouldn't recommend this title. As far as multiplayer goes, Black Ops 3's outing isn't quite as satisfactory as, say, the other titles you could find on Steam. This game pretty heavily caters to the zombie fan-base and so the workshop support for MP isn't quite as robust as what you'll see for zombies. In my opinion, the multiplayer was never a strongpoint for BO3. I recommend checking out one of the Modern Warfare titles if you're a big MP guy.

A Great FPS with a Thriving Zombies Scene
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is a solid entry in the franchise, offering an extensive amount of content with its campaign, multiplayer, and beloved zombies mode. However, while it still holds up in many ways, some issues prevent it from being a perfect experience.
Gameplay & Content
The movement system is one of BO3’s most divisive aspects, featuring a futuristic exo-style traversal with wall-running and thrust jumping. While this adds fluidity, it may not appeal to fans of the traditional boots-on-the-ground combat. The campaign attempts a more complex narrative but falls short in execution, with a convoluted story that lacks the impact of previous Black Ops games.
Multiplayer, while fun, is no longer as populated as it once was. Many official servers are inactive, making it difficult to find matches without relying on community-run servers or specific game modes. However, the Zombies mode is where BO3 truly shines. With iconic maps like Shadows of Evil, Der Eisendrache, and the full remastered Zombies Chronicles DLC, the game offers an incredible zombies experience. The Steam Workshop further elevates this with a huge selection of custom maps, keeping the community alive and active.
Security Issues & Fixes
One major downside of BO3’s PC version is its security flaws. Without the proper precautions, players are at risk of Remote Code Execution (RCE) exploits and other malicious activity when playing online. To safely enjoy the game, it’s highly recommended to install T7 Patch by Serious, which fixes these security vulnerabilities. This is an unfortunate but necessary step to ensure a safe experience.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
✔ Amazing Zombies mode with extensive DLC and custom map support
✔ Large selection of mods and Steam Workshop content
✔ Fun and fluid movement system
✔ Specialist abilities add variety to multiplayer
✔ Still an active Zombies community
Cons:
✖ Campaign is lackluster and forgettable
✖ Multiplayer servers are not as active as before
✖ PC version has serious security vulnerabilities (requires T7 Patch to fix)
✖ Jetpack movement isn’t for everyone
✖ Some weapons and DLC content locked behind microtransactions
Verdict
Despite its issues, Black Ops 3 remains a fantastic Call of Duty title, particularly for zombies fans and modders. While the multiplayer scene isn’t as active, the community keeps the game alive through custom content. If you’re looking for a fun shooter with extensive customization and an amazing zombies experience, BO3 is still worth playing—just make sure to patch the game first.
Final Score: 8/10

Probably the best Black Ops ever made. If you plan on playing multiplayer, it's not worth trying.
There are long-standing issues where hackers can easily gain full read/write access to your entire computer with trivial effort. The community-made fixes for these terrifying flaws are frequently shut down by Activision.
If, however, all you care about is the singleplayer, yeah! It's a really worthy game if you get it when it goes on sale for $20 every month or so.

I can only speak for the zombie mode since it’s the only one I play, but it has aged incredibly well. I originally played it on PS4 and still enjoy it on PC with mods. If you’re a fan of zombies, I highly recommend it, especially with the active modding support.
