Great game back in the day. Fantastic campaign and fun multiplayer experience (unsure of present-day server activity). Most importantly: the game is possibly not secure. There is a security vulnerability described below. Opening any CoD made prior to 2015 and connecting to the internet will result in a chance for people to gain access to your pc. 2 security breaches are known: CVE-2018-20817 (SV_SteamAuthClient in various Activision Infinity Ward Call of Duty games before 2015-08-11 is missing a size check when reading authBlob data into a buffer, which allows one to execute code on the remote target machine when sending a steam authentication request. This affects Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Call of Duty: Black Ops 1, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.) CVE-2018-10718 (Stack-based buffer overflow in Activision Infinity Ward Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 before 2018-04-26 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted packets) These are some things they can do even if you just boot up the game and get to the menu: Hidden Remote System Access System Information File Manager Hidden Desktop Usage Monitor on/off Hidden Browser Usage Open/close CD Hidden Chrome Usage Show/Hide taskbar Start Up Manager Hidden Firefox Usage Show/Hide Start Button Task Manager Hidden Edge Usage Show/Hide Explorer Remote Shell Usage Show/Hide Clock TCP Connection Show/Hide Tray Reverse Proxy Show/Hide Mouse Registry Editor Hidden Explorer Enable/Disable TaskMgr UAC Exploit Enable/Disable Regedit Disable WD Disable UAC Format All Drives DDOS attack Audio recording Webcam recording Device information Process hollowing Credential stealing Discord token stealing I have reviewed every CoD I own that is older than 2015 with these vulnerabilities as harmful and put those 2 CVE's under the description why. This is to warn others about the issues, as I am not a networking or security expert and can't advise on how to mitigate the risk other than to not install the game at all. It's my slim hope that by leaving this review, the issue might be noticed by Activision/IW and action may be taken. Update: note that a similar RCE exploit was found in Black Ops III and appears to have been fixed in a 2023 update. I have not found reliable information indicating a fix for this game, however.

"The healthy human mind doesn't wake up in the morning thinking this is its last day on Earth. But I think that's a luxury, not a curse. To know you're close to the end is a kind of freedom..." Amazing gameplay. Amazing story. 10/10

I knew this game was good for years and years and I've finally gotten around to play it. OH MY GOD IT IS THAT AMAZINGLY GOOD. I didn't play the Multiplayer because I just don't really feel like it and I am assuming player counts are low. Not my personal favorite but holy shit it could be.
Remember, No Russian
Ah, good ol' Modern Warfare 2, one of the best CODs to date. Whether you know it for a certain mission, or from doing 1v1s on Rust, you just can't deny that it was an important game in the franchise. It's where $%!# got real. Modern Warfare 2's story is simply incredible. It's captivating from the very beginning, and manages to keep you engaged throughout, even with all the twists it throws at you. It's where boys became men, and those men, cried real tears. I can't think of an unlikable moment at all, even if, at times, I wished certain things hadn't happened the way they did. It took what was great about the first game's story, and improved it tenfold. All the new characters are great additions, Shepherd, Ghost, Yuri, heck, I'd even go as far to say that Soap is a new addition, as we finally get to see him talk, being completely mute in the first game. The special ops missions are a fun addition as well, providing short, unique challenges featuring sections from the campaign. They are especially fun to try completing solo (except for 2) on veteran. I wouldn't say the game is too difficult, even on veteran difficulty. I'd definitely say the hardest part is finding a friend to do the co-op special ops missions with. The game is 16 years old after all. Now, I never got to experience the online multiplayer myself, as MW3 had already came out by the time I got into COD, but from all the stories I've heard, and all the YouTube content I've watched of the gameplay, I just know it was simply amazing. I'm sure the more modern CODs are completely fine, but I believe that Modern Warfare 2 will always have a special place in gamers' hearts, including mine.

This is Call Of Duty at its finest and I would highly recommend playing it from beginning-to-end in order to appreciate the height of the series. It had an extravagant campaign that capitalised on the story from the previous game Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007) and on top of that incorporated a challenging yet rewarding Spec Ops Mode which I replay to this day, including a Multiplayer which is fast-paced and full of variety when it comes to customisation, unlocks and maps. All-round it's a stellar experience! :)

MW2 is an absolutely nostalgic experience for me. It still holds up to this day. I beat the entire campaign on veteran and let me tell you, if you are trying to do that yourself... the Favela and oil rig missions are absolutely going to destroy your sanity because the enemies seemingly respawn infinitely in those missions during specific parts.

What can I say about this gaming classic that hasn't been said yet? For starters, the story is really well done and the characters are all very memorable and iconic in the Call of Duty franchise. From Soap and Price to Sgt. Foley and Cpl. Dunn all of the characters are great. The multiplayer is one of the best in the whole franchise. It can be rather chaotic at times but that's kind of what makes it so good. All of the weapons are fun and viable. Even guns like the F2000 and the L86 which aren't super great amongst the game's arsenal are viable and fun to use at times. Spec Ops was introduced in this game and in my opinion it's easily the best rendition of the mode we have ever gotten. Super fun to play with your buddies especially on the couch just having a good time. Easily my favorite COD game of all time. If you haven't played this gem you my friend have missed out greatly. Play it now and cherish all of the fun you will have.

My first ever call of duty game I have ever played in my life. For a game that came out in the late 2000's, I really have to say, the graphics are top notch for its time. I loved how every time I would get lost, Keith David would scream at me to kill the enemy. Overall, I give the game a solid 10/10. Now, onto the multiplayer. I had a hard time getting into the field of how the multiplayer was. My first experience with it was decent, asides the players wanting to grenade launch every five seconds, but it was decent to say the least. A little side note to add is that the multiplayer isn't exactly safe to play. I recommend playing MW2 Multiplayer on IW4X.

Played on Steam Deck, while campaign was great, but the lack of proper controller support was annoying & bogged down the experience. I recommend playing this on a console for the full controller support + aim assist. The game itself is awesome, I didn't try multiplayer as older CoDs have a lot of security issues on PC.

After my experience with Modern Warfare, I moved on to Modern Warfare 2. I usually focus exclusively on the campaign mode in my reviews, but this time I made an exception by also playing through the Special Ops missions to earn the platinum trophy. Right from the start, it’s clear that this game is a major step forward in every aspect. The graphics are stunning—the two-year gap between entries is noticeable in the best way. The environments are spectacular and highly detailed, with some sequences that feel straight out of a high-budget action movie. Modern Warfare 2 easily holds its own against much more recent titles, both in visual quality and artistic direction. The narrative has also taken a leap forward. The story builds upon the previous game by introducing iconic characters and delivering unforgettable moments. The arrival of Sheppard and the deeper exploration of Makarov add real weight and intensity to a plot that doesn’t shy away from big moments. Without spoiling anything, I’ll just say that a few events hit me hard emotionally, leaving that sense of loss only a strong story can create. While the first Modern Warfare served as an introduction to the saga’s key characters, this installment dives deeper: twists, betrayals, explosive set pieces, and masterful pacing that kept me hooked from start to finish. The missions set in the gulag and Washington D.C. were especially memorable. In terms of gameplay, once again I tackled the campaign on Veteran difficulty. The challenge is definitely there, but it feels more balanced than in the earliest Call of Duty titles. It’s the kind of difficulty that keeps you engaged—forcing you to think, adapt, and retry—without ever becoming unfair or discouraging. A welcome surprise this time was the Special Ops mode. I initially played it just to go for the platinum trophy, but I actually had a lot of fun with it. The missions are varied, creative, and well-designed, offering a solid side experience that complements the campaign nicely. The only downside is the requirement to play some missions in co-op, which can be limiting for those who prefer to play solo. In conclusion, Modern Warfare 2 is easily one of the best entries in the entire series. It’s technically impressive, narratively powerful, and packed with content. It kept me engaged from beginning to end and, despite a few small issues, the overall experience was incredibly satisfying. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys intense, cinematic campaigns full of action and emotion. It’s a game that truly stands out and absolutely deserves to be played.

Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 (2009) stands as a seminal and transformative work within the first-person shooter genre, representing a pinnacle of interactive storytelling and gameplay design that continues to influence the industry. The campaign delivers a meticulously crafted narrative that is both gripping and emotionally resonant, weaving together geopolitical intrigue and personal sacrifice with remarkable finesse. This mode’s enduring popularity is a testament to its finely tuned mechanics and the developers’ commitment to delivering a balanced, yet thrilling competitive experience. Furthermore, the Spec Ops cooperative mode adds substantial value to the overall package, providing a carefully curated set of missions that emphasize coordination and challenge beyond the campaign and multiplayer modes. This mode offers both casual players and seasoned veterans an opportunity to refine their skills in a different context, enriching the longevity and replayability of the game. In summation, Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 2 (2009) is more than just a game; it is a landmark achievement in interactive entertainment that continues to captivate players through its exceptional production values, narrative sophistication, and finely calibrated gameplay systems. It remains an indispensable title for enthusiasts of the genre and a testament to the enduring power of well-crafted game design.

Unsure if it's really worth the money, with so many cheaper/free games out there. That said, this game does have a very good and intriguing story line, combined with very decent and smooth game play and good enough graphics for being almost 20 years old.

It is with great enthusiasm and no small measure of awe that I submit to the learned readership my favourable account of a most singular marvel of the century, titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This contrivance, fashioned by the artificers of the celebrated firm Infinity Ward, represents a formidable leap forward in the realm of electronic diversions, and stands as a resplendent example of what the union of ingenuity, mechanical aptitude, and narrative craft may accomplish. From the very first moment one engages with this spectacle, one is thrust into a world not of our own time, but of a speculative tomorrow—one teetering on the precipice of global calamity. Here, gallant soldiers of various nations, bound by the CALL OF DUTY, contend with insidious foes in a series of campaigns so vivid, so exquisitely rendered, that one scarcely believes it is but a fiction of circuits and light. The variety of locales alone beggars belief: from the frozen wastes of the Russian frontier to the heat-baked favela slums of South America; from clandestine operations under a moonless sky to the very steps of the American Capitol. Each theatre is brought to life with such meticulous attention that one is left quite breathless—not merely from the explosions that so frequently abound, but from the astonishing fidelity of the world itself. Particularly commendable is the manner in which the narrative unfolds, replete with honourable sacrifice, villainous betrayal, and moments of great pathos. Though silent, the protagonists speak volumes through their valour; and the player, drawn into the unfolding drama, finds himself compelled to act with resolve and swiftness befitting a true man of action. It would be remiss of me not to mention the orchestral arrangements, which accompany the drama with a grandeur befitting the finest opera houses of London or Vienna. The percussion of battle, the lament of loss, the triumph of victory—all are captured in score with the most affecting harmonies. In fine, CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE 2 is no mere amusement it is an experience, grand and unforgettable. It shall surely be regarded, in years to come, as one of the crowning achievements of our digital age, and a fitting heir to the great epics of old. I most heartily recommend it to all gentlemen and ladies of sound mind.

Probably the most overrated COD game of all time. There is no zombies, just a overall mid campaign. The game is also dead to the point where I don't even get put into english servers and get unbelievable lag. So, I'm refunding this and getting BO2 because at least that game is actually good.
