Great game back in the day. Fantastic campaign and fun multiplayer experience (unsure of present-day server activity).
Most importantly: the game is possibly not secure. There is a security vulnerability described below.
Opening any CoD made prior to 2015 and connecting to the internet will result in a chance for people to gain access to your pc. 2 security breaches are known:
CVE-2018-20817
(SV_SteamAuthClient in various Activision Infinity Ward Call of Duty games before 2015-08-11 is missing a size check when reading authBlob data into a buffer, which allows one to execute code on the remote target machine when sending a steam authentication request. This affects Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Call of Duty: Black Ops 1, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.)
CVE-2018-10718
(Stack-based buffer overflow in Activision Infinity Ward Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 before 2018-04-26 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted packets)
These are some things they can do even if you just boot up the game and get to the menu:

I have reviewed every CoD I own that is older than 2015 with these vulnerabilities as harmful and put those 2 CVE's under the description why. This is to warn others about the issues, as I am not a networking or security expert and can't advise on how to mitigate the risk other than to not install the game at all.
It's my slim hope that by leaving this review, the issue might be noticed by Activision/IW and action may be taken.
Update: note that a similar RCE exploit was found in Black Ops III and appears to have been fixed in a 2023 update. I have not found reliable information indicating a fix for this game, however.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) remains one of the most iconic and influential first-person shooters of its generation, delivering a cinematic, high-octane experience that set new standards for the genre. As a direct sequel to the highly praised Modern Warfare, this installment expands upon its predecessor’s strengths with a gripping single-player campaign, intense multiplayer modes, and a robust spec-ops cooperative component. The game’s blend of storytelling, gameplay variety, and technical polish helped define modern shooter design and continues to resonate with fans more than a decade after its release.
The single-player campaign is a standout feature, offering a tightly woven narrative that plunges players into a global conflict filled with memorable characters and explosive set pieces. The story follows multiple protagonists across various locations worldwide, balancing moments of stealth, all-out warfare, and tense, scripted sequences that create a blockbuster movie feel. Missions like the controversial “No Russian” level sparked debate but also demonstrated the franchise’s willingness to explore darker, more mature themes. The campaign’s pacing is expertly crafted, never overstaying its welcome yet delivering enough breadth to keep players emotionally invested and challenged.
Multiplayer is arguably where Modern Warfare 2 truly shines and made its biggest impact on the gaming community. It introduced a wealth of new features, including customizable killstreak rewards, a deep progression system, and a wide array of weapons and perks that allowed players to tailor their loadouts extensively. The maps are meticulously designed to encourage varied playstyles, from close-quarters combat to long-range engagements, and the fast-paced gameplay rewards skill, strategy, and teamwork. This mode quickly became a cornerstone of competitive and casual online shooter culture, with an enduring player base and a legacy that influenced countless future titles.
Cooperative Spec Ops mode offers another layer of gameplay, providing challenging missions that require communication and coordination between two players. These missions range from stealth operations to frantic survival scenarios and add replay value beyond the campaign and multiplayer modes. Spec Ops serves as a perfect bridge for those looking to enjoy the game with friends without the high stakes of competitive multiplayer.
From a technical standpoint, Modern Warfare 2 was a leap forward in visual fidelity and sound design at the time of release. The detailed environments, realistic weapon models, and explosive effects contribute to an immersive battlefield atmosphere. The audio, including the iconic soundtrack and dynamic sound effects, intensifies the action and complements the narrative perfectly. Although the Steam port came years after the initial release, it preserved these core elements well, offering a smooth and responsive experience on PC with support for modern hardware.
However, Modern Warfare 2 is not without its criticisms. Some players note that the game’s reliance on scripted sequences in the campaign occasionally hampers player agency. The multiplayer balance, while generally strong, sometimes suffers from overpowered perks or weapons, leading to frustration in competitive matches. Additionally, the community and servers have evolved significantly since launch, so new players might face challenges integrating into the current player base without prior familiarity.
In summary, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) remains a landmark title in the FPS genre, combining an intense, story-driven campaign with addictive multiplayer and cooperative modes. Its influence on shooter design is undeniable, and its gameplay, atmosphere, and innovations continue to engage players old and new. Despite minor flaws, it stands as a quintessential experience for anyone interested in military shooters and a defining chapter in the Call of Duty series.

The greatest CoD title of all time, making games like Vanguard look like bruised titties drizzled with cock sauce. This game also far exceeds both its predecessors and successors, making them look sad and pathetic not even games like Bo2 could command such praise and respect so instead of dickriding Bo2 we should instead interact with women and play MW2 and no I won't add be adding no 2009 to the end of that sentence you should already know which MW2 I'm talking about.

one of my favourite games of all time but sadly the pc versions of all COD games pre-2016 have horrible exploits that allow hackers to infect your pc with malware if you launch the game while connected to the internet. some games, such as world at war, black ops 1 and 2, and Modern Warfare 3, have community made clients, plutonium for example, which allows players to enjoy the game safely. otherwise avoid buying cod games because of the ridiculous prices that they're still sold at and the numerous exploits that can be used to brick your pc or steal sensitive data

I recently replayed some of the older COD games: MW, MW2, MW3, Advance warfare and Infinite warfare, one after the other. And even though i am a childhood fan of the MW trilogy, it wasn t so fun as i remember, probably because of the nostalgia, I can t complain about the gameplay/graphics because it is an old game by now, but the story didn t seem as engaging as before.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) review
This is a good shooter with a memorable campaign. But if you ask me if it is the best in Call of Duty-franchise, I'd have to disagree. While this is certainly a flashy product, with what used to once be one of the greatest multiplayer modes of all time, there are other CoDs that I think are way better than this. For example... Black Ops 1 and MW3 are better CoD games while WW2 is better in the modern era. One tends to get bit of a fatigue when it comes to Modern Warfare-series anyway but it gets quite noticeable here, there are some missions in this game that I think are bit of a filler (those two missions in Brazil especially).
But there is some good stuff in this. For example, the list of weapons, along with their attachments, is long. The campaign is lengthy enough, it takes some 7-8 hours to complete, has plenty of different style of missions and doesn't overstay it's welcome. Difficulty is fine for the most part, however there are some sections in some of the missions that have horrendous difficulty spike.
If you enjoy Michael Bay style films even a little, you'll enjoy this along with the rest of the Modern Warfare-series. While this is far from being my favorite shooter... this has plenty of nice things going on with it. Worth it on sale. Just remember, don't go into multiplayer lobbies as that will expose you to some malware.

Masterpiece, great fun campaign and still looks great and better than MW3 somehow. Just be careful if you play multiplayer because of the security leak, but the campaign and special ops are safe and still great fun so many years later.
Btw there is a good fov changer (SCZ) I highly recommend!

MW2 is an absolutely nostalgic experience for me. It still holds up to this day. I beat the entire campaign on veteran and let me tell you, if you are trying to do that yourself... the Favela and oil rig missions are absolutely going to destroy your sanity because the enemies seemingly respawn infinitely in those missions during specific parts.

What can I say about this gaming classic that hasn't been said yet? For starters, the story is really well done and the characters are all very memorable and iconic in the Call of Duty franchise. From Soap and Price to Sgt. Foley and Cpl. Dunn all of the characters are great. The multiplayer is one of the best in the whole franchise. It can be rather chaotic at times but that's kind of what makes it so good. All of the weapons are fun and viable. Even guns like the F2000 and the L86 which aren't super great amongst the game's arsenal are viable and fun to use at times. Spec Ops was introduced in this game and in my opinion it's easily the best rendition of the mode we have ever gotten. Super fun to play with your buddies especially on the couch just having a good time. Easily my favorite COD game of all time. If you haven't played this gem you my friend have missed out greatly. Play it now and cherish all of the fun you will have.

This is a real hit to the heart. They don't make games like this anymore, the modern warfare series is one of if not the best out there (the old games at least Cold War is a slight exception) i just wish activision would go back to the way things were in the CoD/MW series their recent and newest games are terrible but their old ones still stand to this day.
May God Bless You All-
RIP: Task Force 141 you will be missed

Like the MW1, I played the second one for the first time. Both are pretty similar in mechanics with a few simple improvements. Ran smoothly on my PC as well.
Again, didn't play the multiplayer, but only the campaign. It was short but worthwhile, though felt a little rushed. But I guess I'm just used to open-world RPG pacing.
Sadly I already was aware of the big plot twist, but the story was still intriguing and interesting enough.

Does rather well for a PC Port. I have not had any issues and I am at the end of Act 3. I have already played and finished the first initial release for PS3. So this game brings back memories. And has aged well as far as I am concerned. Great Campaign!
