Pretty good. Especially at the prices you can get this and the other Witcher games these days. Stories are good and it seems like decisions really did materially affect the story. There are some frustrating bugs requiring some tweaks to even run (set affinity to fewer CPU cores being the oddest), finicky hitboxes, and a few sudden crashes, but nothing that was more than annoying or tedious. The story and franchise more than make up for it. Looking forward to W3! 8/10

It’s the weakest part of the series for me. The story is mature, with political plots and hard choices, and the world looks great at the beginning, especially in the Flotsam. But after the first act, the game becomes less interesting. The next chapters feel boring and not as well written. The story slows down, and the locations are not as exciting anymore. The combat system is also a problem. Hitboxes don’t work well. Enemies can hit you from far away, but your own attacks sometimes miss even when close. Fighting feels stiff and not very enjoyable. Still, because of the strong start and CD Projekt RED’s great storytelling, I think it’s worth a try for fans of story-based RPGs. Just don’t expect too much.

I will admit, Witcher 2 is the weakest of all Witchers. The story is not about hunting monsters and even side missions do not mention much about them. You act as an investigator of the King's assassin, whilst you search for the assassin, you simultaneously attempt to clear your name of any wrong doing. This is pretty much the whole story of it. To expand my experience thoroughly, i would say, it was alright. The first chapter was the most entertaining and one that kept me going. Second chapter was okay, although it became boring at times. Ultimately, third chapter was dull, but interesting. A lot of questions, which Geralt and i pondered about, were answered, but most of them were still sealed, so to say. A few characters showed up from the previous game and that was nice to see. In addition to the story, Geralt is reminded that he does not get himself involved with politics, but the whole game is about politics, which is odd, but it was still intriguing. Personally, i liked a lot of things, but for some reason, when the option was given "Fight and murder the X" and i chose it, the person, which was supposed to be killed, always fled and kept Geralt injured, so, what is even the point of putting the action of bravery, which also encourages you, as a player, to fight, but then leaves you partially dead instead of taking over the foe. That was weird and annoying, because it happened trice. Graphically, it took me a few minutes, so my eyes would be adjusted to them, but eventually i overcame it. At times, i even liked them. For nearly 2$s though, this game is fantastic. Just grab all 3 games with the DLCs and go through them like i am doing at the moment. I would give WItcher 2 a well stood 7 out of 10.

great game you are a killing machine with feelings that is used as a pawn in political games by monarchs and sorcerers alike ergo 10/10 PS: Greatly improved combat system but boss fights are shit

In my opinion, the Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is the weakest game in the current Witcher trilogy - although I do recommend playing it for the full story. For some reason, this game almost felt like a rushed experience. It could have been because I was itching to start the Witcher 3 but the grimy, darker art style just did not work for me (I'm sure people would disagree). I believe this is the shortest game of the trilogy and it felt like there was not a whole lot to do or discover due to the restricted zones. This game definitely prepares you for the Witcher 3 in terms of a more aligned combat as oppose to the Witcher 1 and the story leads nicely into it but, for me, this game seemed to lack something that the Witcher 1 and the Witcher 3 had. Great, challenging boss battles though!

A fantastic franchise, in The Witcher 2 you can experience the feeling of being a leader and understand the main character through an amazing story. I think The Witcher is one of the best RPG games and an indescribable masterpiece. Thank you CD Projekt.

Unfortunately out of all Witcher games, I found myself hate playing through this one only to have it done. It is much shorter than the other games, feels like a bigger lack of polish than even the first game, the combat is extremely clunky and either impossible or too easy. The story was not written well and there was barely any serious combat, mainly just walking around and talking to people.

It's an improvement from the first game, especially in combat, but it remains a lackluster experience that makes it forgettable. This game doesn't have a quarter of the atmosphere the first game had. It's even shorter, with 3 chapters only (the last one being the shortest). The story wants to be complex, which is a good thing in theory, but it's diluted so much it becomes uninteresting. They did try to innovate on their formula, but there are a lot of questionable game design decision, including mechanics that are totally useless and some that doesn't even work (looking at you, mini-map). Some quests are quite confusing, as they give no hints where to go, and force you to spoil the game for you by looking for a guide on a wiki. Boss battles are uninspired and boring... Also, at the end of chapter 1, the game may crash while trying to play a cutscene. You have to turn off full-screen until you start chapter 2. It's a good enough game, but it could and should have been better.

Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings – A Beautiful Mess That Could've Been a Masterpiece I’d rather watch someone else suffer through this game than play it myself again. CD Projekt RED is known for brilliant stories and worlds, but equally famous for their bugs — and boy, this game reminds you why. I gave it a shot, finished it, and can confidently say: the story deserves an Oscar, the gameplay deserves a patch that never came. There are moments of greatness — atmospheric environments, morally grey choices, strong characters — but they constantly get interrupted by clunky controls, awkward combat mechanics, and bugs that feel like they’ve been aging in a vault since 2011. It genuinely feels like CD Projekt thought, "The story's great, that should be enough, right?" Nope. It’s like building a mansion on a swamp. Beautiful structure, but every step you take sinks a little. If another studio had handled this title with better polish and technical finesse, it could’ve been one of the best RPGs ever made. But here we are — an incredible narrative stuck inside a buggy relic. And if you don’t believe me, install it now. You'll either love it, rage quit, or both.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is a dark and mature action-RPG that continues the story of Geralt of Rivia, a professional monster hunter. Developed by CD Projekt Red, this game improves upon the first Witcher in nearly every way, offering a gripping narrative, improved graphics, and more complex gameplay. The story is rich with political intrigue, difficult moral choices, and branching paths that lead to entirely different experiences depending on your decisions. Unlike many RPGs, The Witcher 2 doesn't offer clear good or evil choices — instead, you're often forced to choose the lesser of two evils, which adds emotional weight to every decision. Visually, the game was ahead of its time when it launched, with detailed environments and cinematic cutscenes. The combat system is more refined than in the first game, requiring tactical thinking, use of magic (signs), potions, and dodging skills. Although it's more linear than The Witcher 3, the game's story depth and consequence-driven gameplay make it a standout title. It’s a challenging but rewarding experience, especially for those who enjoy mature fantasy worlds and meaningful choices. Rating: 9/10

Really enjoyed playing this game, exploring the world of the Witcher again. The story is interesting with all the side quests, different characters and settngs. The plot is a bit too complicated at times and I wondered whether we're supposed to have read the books. It took a while to get used to the different controls after Witcher 1 and that game had more humour. I'm very grateful for the online advice and info to help me get through the tricky parts - even playing on Easy mode gave me some very hard fights. I'll look forward to playing this again, choosing a different path next time.

Bought the game for 2 dollars along with the witcher 1 during a sale due to enjoying 3. After playing the witcher 1 this game feels like a breath of fresh air. The combat system was overhauled significantly, while I did not usually hate the original game's combat system it was out of date at release. So they signifcantly improved upon the combat. The graphics of this game are on par with the third game and I see a few assets reused from 2 into the 3. The story was good and I enjoyed Roche's path. I will probably come back for the elven path at some point. Likes: Great voice acting (original game felt like a high-school play), graphics are excellent for it's time, level design. Frame rate being unlocked and graphics settings makes this definitive over the xbox port (even playing on an xbox series x it still has a cap of 30 fps). The game was reasonably stable and didn't have near as many crashes as the witcher 1 where you needed to save all the time to ensure no lost progress. (Only had two of them running ultra specs on a i7 2070 64gb of ram). This was also less confusing on the story and overall objectives as a newcomer. I did enjoy the villains like Letho, and the Lodge, they were way more memorable than the salamandra from the witcher 1. Dislikes: Issues with voice volume being inconsistent, Geralt is stupid quiet then some rando peasant will be like screaming "ODRIN WHERE ARE YA BOOOYY". It did get better as the game went on, but it disables your volume keys unless steam overlay is opened. The side quests were a mess. An example is during the area with the mist you run across someone who wants 60 harpy feathers. Issue is harpies dont really spawn there and if you cross the mist back to continue the story, the quest will be unfinishable due to the mist never taking you by him again. So I am not sure the sidequests is really worth it. Difficult curve, the game was kinda easy for the majority of it on normal. Then the dragon fight had a sudden spike in it. It was manageable though. This game was far too short though, I finished one path in 20 hours. (Rolling with a sword out is a lot faster than walking with upgrades). But still, it seemed the game was just getting started. Another 2 chapters that could have shown off the lodge more throughly would have been better than a 20 minute long conversation with Triss after the fact. I hated the fact that potions couldn't be drank at any point. But at least meditating wasn't linked only to a campfire. And that too much time was spent on Roche's path with the Kaedwinis when it could have been in a more interesting place. Overall: The game was very well done even if somewhat short. If you got through the mess that was the witcher 1 then this game would be a cakewalk as far as understanding whats going on. Difficult on easy was still pretty challenging. (Especially if you did the original on normal like i did). So if you see this on sale and are curious what happened prior to 3 id pick it up.

I played this after witcher 3 (a few years ago) and it has been so cool to fill in the story. This game is great. A little clunkier and less free than wild hunt but the story is immaculate. It was extremely satisfying.

By far not only the worst rpg game I've ever played but also the worst witcher game. Both witcher 1 and 3 which I have beaten before were amazing and some of the best games I've ever played but this one was constant of annoyence, bugs, crashes and much more bullshit. The graphics were terrible, the story decent but nothing special and invirement boring at best. Idk how CDPR fucked up this bad but atleast they learned from their mistakes. I dropped this game after it crashed 12 times in the span of 30 minutes not allowing me to finnish chapter 2. Also imagine adding sets you want to collect only to make the best money making method be sitting and arm wrestling for 5 hours. I played on dark mode and see how I don't mention difficulty being a bad thing beacouse it acctualy was fun if it wasn't stupid.

Playing this as my first witcher game in 2025, I think I would overall recommend the game. To be brief: it's a great bit of world building with a pretty compelling story and some interesting characters and side quests, severely hampered by some very questionable and perhaps outdated game design.

Game is amazing, but almost unplayable due to crashes every few minutes. Edit: Most crashes are fixed by instead of putting
cmd.exe /c start "" /affinity 0xFFFF %command%
so the game starts at all (taken from some guide or thread here), setting
cmd.exe /c start "" /affinity 0xF %command%
as launch options instead. It still crashes every now and then, but much less frequently. So now it's amazing, with only occasional crashes.

People kept telling me to play the witcher series and after seeing the games on sale I bought them all, I got hooked on the first game in 2020 and then went on to play the 2nd one and In all honesty, I liked how the game continued the Witcher story and how the combat was a massive step up from the last Witcher game. But the game itself didn't resonate with me in the same way as the 1st and later 3rd game did. I'd still recomend it to others though seeing how the game isn't bad.

0.2 hrs - bloody hell... the intro is so good! 0.3 hrs - the tutorial is such an art gallery I don't know whether I should progress in the story or just admire the beauty of the world 2 hrs - there is so much to look at, so much to listen to... This game is absolutely worlds apart from the first one. The dialogues are funny, witty and well written. I mean everything is top notch. I read everything, once again trying to submerge myself in the world. Playing the second hardest difficulty where the first is INSANE with permanent death. I'm an avid save-game connoisseur and I cannot even imagine playing with the perma death... I would love to.. but I need me some save games :) 2.2 hrs - at least 10+ deaths later, I am very pleased with my choice of the difficulty 12.3 hrs - I am an old-school gamer where gameplay > graphics ALWAYS is the case, but I just cannot, I'll repeat... I CANNOT stop admiring how the world looks like. Every place wherever you go is like an ART in museum where you want to stop and just indulge its beauty. I thought the game series is a little over-hyped especially when I've finished the first one. It was a really good game but just that. This one on the other hand... is a few universes above. Extremely detailed and extremely beautiful. I also think it is important to mention that I am playing on at least 10+ years old PC: Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz 3.40 GHz Installed RAM 8.00 GB (7.89 GB usable) Storage 932 GB HDD WDC WD10EZEX-22BN5A0 Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti (2 GB), Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 (32 MB) The graphics in Witcher 2 is just stunning and it doesn't run any worse than Witcher 1. Absolutely impressive. The things I don't like so far: - not related to only this game but... I hate that you can just loot everything, everywhere without any consequences... I walk into random people's houses, loot everything and nobody even say a word... = it kills immersion as hell. It feels like crap as well. - fighting is... just OK. I really wouldn't say it is any better than Witcher 1. It is different but... I don't really enjoy it that much - you can only drink potion when you meditate... like WTF!? I was attacked in the city and obviously I can't take out quickly one of my brews and help myself with it because you can't do it in a middle of the fight... REALLY!? I have to load my save, drink it first and wait to be attacked again? Now that is another stupidity that kills immersion a lot... In Witcher 1 you could use your potions whenever you wanted and it felt good and real. In Witcher 2 you have to reload your game from the last save... drink what you want and then you are ready for the battle where you have lost before... I CANNOT believe someone let it through... like WTF?! I really hope there's some skill you can acquire to actually use your potions in a middle of the fight later on 19.1 hrs - the more I play it the more I see that it is more of an interactive book than a game... It's just a prettier version of The Witcher 1. The fighting is different but not more fun at all, more annoying I would say, you can't drink potions in when in DANGER which is absolutely BONKERS!! It is so stupid it just kill the joy of being a witcher... 'Wait, let me load up my last same because I know I will get attacked again but this time I will be prepared because I can go back in time'... like WTF!? Even in The Witcher 1 if I was attacked I could quickly empty a bottle or two in between the dodges and it felt norma/natural/realistic of what you would do! I just hate this aspect of the game so much... All the fune comes mainly from the story, how beautiful the game looks like everywhere, details, but it not a fun game gameplay wise... Just a typical, go there, listen to that, kill this and that, take this go somewhere else and do all over again. The game is massively overhyped in my opinion because people (myself at first as well) are in total awe of how it looks like and how detailed it is but beyond that... it's just mediocre at best... Really... Just a prettiest version of The Witcher 1 so far... Nothing else feels better.

It's a great game, but probably the weakest entry in the series. It has better combat than the Witcher 1 and I really like that the second chapter has two different versions depending on your choices, but that's it. The story is still very solid, but really inconsistent in quality (the first chapter is so boring lol). The world design is even more linear and restricted than in the first game. The atmosphere and music from the previous entry is gone and I can recall literally only one track from the entire game (Easier said than killed). But even with all of its problems, I consider this game to be great too. Just not as much as the other two. 8/10 Great RPG with a lot of wasted potential

The second installment of The Witcher RPG game series is masterclass as it exceeds on everything built by the first game. Coming from playing the third game before the first, and now this one. I can confidently say this was my favorite of the main stories. You are given so many paths you can take inside this really interesting time period, so making "the lesser evil" is even more complex than before, since the original game's choice making was much more linear but this raises the bar to another level. One huge problem has migrated over from the original which is game saves duplicating every time you save. Steam Cloud filling up isn't the main problem while that is on its own as well. Having too many saves causes loading a save take forever and even making the game crash after a certain point (in which manually deleting saves is necessary). There are quite a few yet biggest improvement over the original is the combat and movement. It is much from crispy and responsive and the added controller support is great too. As much as I love the graphical fidelity of The Witcher 3, the lighting here has so much personality in my eyes and makes the game stand out the most in the series and I don't believe The Witcher 4 or The Witcher Remake will take this one's crown. The Witcher series is a gem and it is such a beautiful journey to follow whether you start from the third game, first or second. These are games you won't forget.

I'd say this game is worth buying if: - You want to play the first 2 Witcher games to get a proper understanding of the lore before playing the Witcher 3 - You are willing to endure a bit of Xbox 360/Playstation 3 era jank and graphics for the story Firstly, lets focus on the story. It's good, really good and probably the only reason why I finished the game. The story carries the gameplay and makes it worth playing as the game cannot really stand on its own two legs with gameplay alone. The story is interesting and engaging albeit the game is fairly short and there is a clear emphasis on replaying the game to get the "full experience" although personally that's not my thing. Now for the gameplay. This is where things go a little bit downhill. Coming from the Witcher 1 and being aware that the Witcher 2 was more console orientated than the first game which itself very much a computer game in all its complexity and certainly played like one too, i am fairly disappointed. Magic: - In the first game, magic felt powerful and it was essential to winning fights, if you didn't use magic in cohesion with other combat mechanics, you simply wouldn't get anywhere. Furthermore magic upgrades felt useful and the upgrade pool itself was extensive. - In the Witcher 2, magic plays a very limited role. Yes, Aard is used to break down walls and you would need to use Quen to protect yourself in boss fights and duels but it doesn't feel essential to the gameplay. I'd also occasionally cast Igni but it isn't very effective. In the first game, Igni was superb in damaging large groups whereas in the Witcher 2, you shoot a little fireball. - The upgrade tree for magic is bad, there is no focus on upgrading individual spells at all, you have to follow a small specific line in order to reach the higher upgrades. Potions: - Potions in this game are heavily neglected and somewhat pointless. The issue lies in the game mechanic where you need to meditate to drink a potion, meaning a player cannot drink a potion on the move in order to adapt to a changing situation within combat. - Potions seem to act more as plot devices than actually in-game tools. You need to drink a potion to fight the first boss fight of the game, the Kayran and in a later mission, you need to drink a potion for a mage. - I completely ignored the potion upgrade tree, I honesty thought it was completely pointless because I rarely used potions. - In the Witcher 1, you could drink potions on the move and they too played an important role in both combat as well as tackling some dungeons. You needed to drink the Cat Potion to see in dungeons and caves. Arguably this was true for one area in the Witcher 2, the underground tunnels next to Vergen. Swords: - This game is radically different to the Witcher 1 in terms of combat. The Witcher 1 was essentially waiting for the icon to turn fiery in order to click to which there would be a successful strike on your enemy - The Witcher 2 is much more simply in this regard, and takes from the Shadow of Mordor/War style of combat where you spam either the light attack or heavy attack button. - For boss fights that didn't include a monster, spamming the light attack simply stun-locks your enemy, ensuring you will defeat them. - The skill tree for this was the only one I really focus on, as sword fights are the only essential part of combat gameplay and really the only tool you need to win. - Parrying is pointless, I never did it, as well as blocking, all you need to do is roll around. Boss fights: (against monsters) - Janky and scripted and certainly the source of disappointment amongst players. The Kayran boss fight in Chapter 1 is poorly designed and extremely annoying. Tip: Quen is useful here and I'd highly reccommend a guide as the game is much better beyond this point. Quests: - They are alright, slightly better than the Witcher 1 where you just walk back and forth in endless fetch quests. - Quest markers seem to be a hit and miss and you may struggle to find some things because the quest marker doesn't exist UI and inventory management: - For a console game, interacting the map on controller was terrible and is way better on keyboard and mouse - The inventory system and management is awful, so I didn't bother apart looking at swords to sell. - Despite the large amount of crafting material, I never crafted and never really forged things and rarely made potions. In conclusion, I'd say this game is a hit or miss. Coming from the Witcher 1, this game felt like a downgrade in all but story. Fortunately it's not exactly a long game and the story and story choices are highly enjoyable.

Very good story, felt like a movie with the live dialogues. Graphics still hold well, however combat felt slacky and slow, not much to it, almost boring (the story and Geralt clearly made the game good on their own). Side quests were well written too, really enjoyable to do them. Didn't understood much about game mechanics (crafting, alchemy, magic and mutagens), so played mostly just cutting stuff in front of me, sadly I felt like nothing was explained to me. An old game but the story makes up for it.

Damn, I managed to make it run smoothly on very low on 720p on my shitty integrated gpu, and it was still not bad visually! Anyway, 31h to finish my first run. While it was indeed shorter than the previous game, I had a lot more fun playing it. After I finish my Geralt's story when I'll play the third, I'll probably replay the previous games with different choices... but I'll wait until I have a better computer to play Wild Hunt, I'm loving this story so far and I don't want to experiment what is apparently one of the best games in history on very low 480p. So yeah, The Witcher 2, great game, I recommend playing it!

This is Fr*aking OG. The story is fantastically epic and it is getting better and better. The fight's gameplay really improved a lot from The Witcher 1, though it has some challenges at the beginning but you'll get used to it eventually. I'll play this again with the other character's Path/Choice just to see the other side of the story. I can't wait to begin The Witcher 3 after this one.

just finished a first playthrough. Not to much to criticise, I do think in some parts of the story geralt doesn't really have the proper motive to do what it is he's meant to be doing and I do think that the main story as well as the side quests could've been made a bit more interesting and go on for longer, and compared to the witcher one it doesn't have as good atmosphere. this doesn't mean it's a bad game they definitely improved the combat from the first game, they made it so unlike the first game you are able to play the game longer in one sitting without getting bored, and the fact that depending on choices you make at the end of chapter 1 and in chapter 3 you can actually sort of create a different story to the one you played before is pretty cool but I would've preferred the main story to go on longer as well as the side quests. This game is a good game but unlike the witcher one (which i think is a better game) the story doesn't quite hold up the game for areas which need improving so i would rate this game a 7.5 out of 10, maybe 8 but that's only because the prologue and chapter one are probably the best parts of the game.

This is a good sequel to the Witcher, though I preferred the first game. The intensity and story elements of the game are improved in Witcher 2 by making a more condensed world that is richer in detail. On reflection the first game is better for a challenge that scaled with progression (played on hard difficulty) and was more immersive than Witcher 2, which appears to have moved the focus onto making Witcher more of a combat game. Whilst this game removed the only negative I could draw from Witcher 1 (walking distances that impacted immersion); I was thinking that a simple fast travel mechanic would have overcome that issue, so that traversing between towns/villages was optional. The approach taken in the sequel does remove the tedious walking, but at the expense of making less areas for looting and arguably makes Witcher 2 more of an action game than its predecessor. I am playing this as part of a revisit to Witcher to see if I can get more into the story, which I felt was lost by jumping straight into Witcher 3. As a series, playing all 3 is a must, and I am looking forward to revisiting Witcher 3 having now played the prequels. I purchased all Witcher games (1 to 3) as part of a bundle and it was worth the money.

i really think this game is a huge leap from the first one. i finished the third one yesterday and i must say that many things are connected between these two games. in the end, i really love this series and i can't wait for the 4th one to release. the story is very good. geralt is considered a traitor and u must undo this thing. i would want to get every achievement, but the ,,madman'' one is diabolical. anyway, i really like this game, the combat is much better than the first one.

much better than its predecessor. the first game made me want to rip my hair out but this one is actually a fun hack and slash, and u can actually tell where you need to go. one thing to note is that autosave fills ur entire page with so many saves it starts lagging the game for some reason

Game is decent, and the story is worthwhile as it connects smoothly to Witcher 3. Unlike the first game (which had a terrible combat system and an overall horror of game design), this game is only really really bad in some aspects. If you want to learn about the story then my advice would be to watch a video about the story of the first game, then play through the second game yourself on easy difficulty. You might be questioning why I specified "easy" specificially. Well in this game, for whatever reason, the normal difficulty is equal to the Death March difficulty of Witcher 3. Almost every enemies kills you in 3 hits and easy mode doesn't even help with their health scaling. Every enemy needs to be hit 20 times to die, and setting it to easy only makes the combat encounters fair as you- more often than you might think- will be fighting 1v5 at best case scenario (if you are wondering the worst, it is 1v20). I'm only giving this a recommendation because I got to learn a lot in terms of the story and the overall worldbuilding of the Witcher series. Gameplay is similar to Witcher 3, so unlike Witcher 1, this game is actually playable without having a panic attack from the abysmal controls (first game made you click on the enemies to attack and if you didn't click directly on their character models, Geralt wouldn't even attack) 10/10 Story 7/10 Gameplay 6/10 UI 2/10 Difficulty 4/10 Open World (perhaps i should say big maps with borders hard to reach) 11/10 Music (it always hits the spot) It start off very strong, then after the prologue you are met with the unfortunate reality that is the way this game was balanced. If you can overlook that and don't mind killing every enemy with a 1000 cuts on easy difficulty, then go ahead. If you just want the story, then there are lore recap videos. But hey, if you want to experience it for yourself, then Witcher 2 is a decent game (even by today's standards). (Will update more once I complete the game, so far these are my experiences from Prologue and Chapter 1) - Chapter 2 ------------ The one responsible for the dice game needs to be sht. No way of sugercoating it, thank god Gwent is there instead in the 3rd game. Chapter 2 has a better flow for the story, or perhaps it just picks up as the game goes on. - Chapter 3 ------------ Quite short compared to previous chapters, but it was much fuller in terms of Story. The
dragon
fight was somewhat bllsht tho, if you stay too far and get hit once you basically get stunlocked in this ragdoll animation until you die. - Final Verdict -------------- The Witcher 2 is a decent game for those wishing to learn more about the story of the Witcher series. If you would like to play through it yourself, it will take about 20 hours to go through the main story and some of the side content. It is however entirely possible to watch a lore video about it if you do not have the time or the budget for this game. Just make sure you understand the story and the characters involved in it well as it matters tremendously for the story of Witcher 3 to make sense. I'm glad I played through this (as well as learning about the story of the first game, see my review for that game about why you shouldn't bother playing that one yourself). Now with what I've learned, it gives me another playthrough chance with Witcher 3, which I'm always down for.
