When I was young or maybe teenager. I saw this game many times it's really beautiful and astonished.
A jet flying up from carrier ship still mark on my eyes when I saw it first time. I want to play this game so bad and I recently bought this game today. (same day as I reviewed.)
I can't believe it I have to go to battlelog and have to activate key I got an internet but EA app said I'm still disconnect. I'm take a look all of forum, reddit or even youtube to fix it but I can't see any way to resolve this problem.
I think I have to refund this game now you make me really disappointed. it's not the customer's responsibility to fixing your game that's takes several hours.
Games it should be a good experience and moment for players not a cash grab and do nothing. that's really awful what a shame.
(sorry for my bad english. I try my best. thank you.)

Is it current world events, or is it just Battlefield 3?
American forces in Iraqi Kurdistan fight their way through a growing Iranian insurgency, only to uncover a plot regarding a former CIA asset gone rogue. A man named Solomon is helping facilitate a coup in Iran, further radicalizing the country and after an earthquake devastates the border country--Iran invades Iraq under the guise of humanitarian aid. In retaliation, American forces, primarily the Navy Department's elite Marine expeditionary ground-pounders, going boots to the sand, as well as an array of top tier hardware, from tanks to Navy combat aircrafts. It was a game made to spite Call of Duty at its own game, while telling a more serious, respectable and grounded story with more realistic characters. And it actually works.
The game itself is archaic in its current state. Not only does it install punkbuster, an outdated anti-cheat on your system (which is infamously hard to remove in its entirety) but also Origin. And not only that, it opens up a WEB-BROWSER when you hit play and actually prepare to start the game.
Multiplayer is not only dead, but it is difficult to connect to any servers, if any even exist. Which is a shame, but thankfully, if you want to play Operation Metro Conquest 24/7 with infinite tickets, BF4 provides that option for us. But let me tell you, I have a long history with this game. One of the longest. This is merely my first time playing it on PC, but I've 100% this game at one time before. This was one of my most dedicated multiplayer experiences, as I played it even back when it was a limited time beta! Yes, the same beta where you could crawl under the map in the park and the red-dot UMP 45 was cracked as hell.
I have been through this game through some trying times and have plenty of core memories with friends, dedicating literally thousands of hours of gameplay into it. And prior to that, Bad Company 2 and its expansion Vietnam occupied many late nights and early mornings. But for me, Battlefield 3 was the uncontested best game of its sort.
The co-op was good, even, another thing that I had played through many times with friends, despite all the difficulties included. Especially since one mode requires a very competent helicopter pilot.
But, as of now, the only thing to really enjoy with this game is the campaign. And it brings up the question, is this campaign good? How has it aged?
Other than some really funny and unnecessary quick time events and a few turret sections that slow down the pacing, this game has one of the all time best linear shooter single player campaigns. While it doesn't always benefit the gameplay of Battlefield, this campaign is absolutely top tier, well acted and well written. All the errors and mistakes of the multiplayer mode are absent in the campaign.
The US Marine First Recon have insanely accurate kits, although they do boldly outfit one Marine with some multicam. Even the Iranian regulars have accurate camoflague. The game has a surprising amount of variety in the campaign that is not seen in other aspects of the game. Highly detailed set pieces, like one in New York's time square, are exclusive to the single player and the multiplayer primarily takes place in the hypothetical Russo-American war the campaign prevents in locations such as Iran and France. I always speculated that the Iranian factions, both the PLR insurgents and the Iranian military, were meant to be the multiplayer factions fighting the American Marines. However, in the end, they decided to make an interesting amalgamation of the US forces branches for the USFOR and the RUSFOR are all decked out Spetsnaz type characters.
The class models in the multiplayer are absolutely iconic, but once again, the campaign has such a highly astounding attention to detail in the kits that at most, the worst sin they commit is at times they are a little too generic.
The Russian voice acting is competent in multiplayer, although it is done by none-natives, two brothers in particular--but one does a very near native job. The only issue there is that the dialogue and terms are at times not appropriate for the situation.
The campaign, once again, surprises by having actual Russian voice talent for the Spetsnaz characters in the campaign. Dice really went above and beyond to get these guys, as minimal as their dialogue is, but it is interesting how diverse the cast actually is. A Lebanese terrorist, Solomon, is voice acted by a man from Ukraine . Kiril, a Russian GRU agent who is tasked to save Paris, ironically, is a British actor who was raised speaking Russian (rather competently, at that) by his father, who happened to be a Russian language teacher, while growing up in France. Vladimir is played by the classically trained Ilia Volok (and has ironically, also played Frenchmen) and most notably, Oleg Taktarov plays Dima, one of our protagonists. Many will recognize him as Nikolai, from Predators (2010), who plays a somewhat similar character.
The story is grounded in many ways, putting us in the role of an augmented infantryman, Sgt Blackburn, as he uncovers a pretty large conspiracy regarding stolen nukes and is interrogated for it Black Ops style. We also play as a Navy pilot in a rare kudos to combat aviation in these games in a very scripted segment, but one that is still very intense and well presented. Then we have some sections as a Marine tanker, Miller, as he we get a large look at some of the maneuver warfare ongoing in the American invasion of Iran after the events in Iraq. Then, of course, we get the Spetsnaz GRU missions as Dima, which the game is pretty well known for, as its one of the most flattering, albeit realistic and stoic depictions of the Russian special forces in any popular media with a surprising amount of nuance.
Remarkably, a game that went on to prove it could do a realistic COD campaign much better with only sparing, movie-like elements reserved for special scenes and climaxes, would have several of its scenes outright referenced in contemporary Call of Duty games soon after. In fact, I think it is wise that game devs use this campaign as a blueprint, since Battlefield since then have completely dropped the ball. Everything they cooked with in 3, they completely flushed down the toilet in 4. I don't even want to talk about it.
For the most part, we play as Blackburn, a non-special forces Marine who is apart of the First Recon, who are "special operations capable" despite being salty grunts. A lot of the things you and your buds get up to, complete with realistic and very humanizing dialogue that is not overrun with inappropriate overuse of military jargon, feel like they were written by people who have actually experienced modern urban combat. It is great to play a game that so seamlessly lets us be the main character, while also being surrounded by just as capable characters that don't always let it seem like we are a one man army. Of course, this is subverted later by Blackburn more than a few times. And its outright mentioned by characters, later on in the Spetsnaz missions, the absurdity of the damage of what just a handful of men can do against a small army.
And yet, at the same time, we have characters questioning their capability. Questioning their mission, questioning their objects. There is some very sharp dialogue that was written by people who were not just a bunch of turbonerds at the DICE offices, there are some absolute zingers that sound like they could have actually come from these characters in a natural moment in between firefights. There were a few times where it seemed like the odds were almost COD tier ridiculous, but somehow, it is easy to accept due to just how it is paced and presented.
Also, it is mandatory to set your audio configuration to WAR TAPES for the most realistic and immersive audio. This should have been the default, honestly. I cannot imagine it any other way.

A great experience, even in 2025!
Battlefield 3 offers a solid gameplay experience with a fantastic story that really pulls you in. The campaign’s theme and setting—reminiscent of the Iran-Iraq war vibe—create a strong and immersive atmosphere that fits perfectly with the game's style. Even though the single-player campaign is on the shorter side, I'm really glad I got to play it and enjoy every moment.
As for the multiplayer, Battlefield 3 still holds up well. I only played it briefly, but I appreciated the variety of maps and game modes. Unfortunately, the servers are mostly empty these days, and it’s rare to find a full one—usually only during peak hours. Still, it’s playable, and if you catch a good match, it’s a lot of fun.
Overall, a great game that was definitely worth playing, even now!

I played the original beta, back when Valve and EA were separating and it was origin only. I thought the game was alright back then, sorta decent PvP game.
Finally years later I sell some trading cards, grab it for $2, heard good things about the single player which is my only interest at this point.
Imma be honest, the lens flare is obnoxious, the game is desaturated to such a degree I had to use reshade to make it look somewhat decent, the story is so basic and dumb, the acting is bad.
Gameplay is what it is, a battlefield game, a step above Call of Duty but both are so bad these days and haven't done much since 2010 to really move things forward.
Even at $2 my life would have been better not playing this game.

This game installs a broken anti cheat called PunkBuster that NEVER leaves your PC
PunkBuster stays running in the background even after you uninstall the game, and it’s a pain in the ass to remove. The uninstaller is broken, files get left behind and services keep running no matter what you do.
If you don’t want a an outdated anti cheat running on your PC, do NOT download this game.

Nothing much to say. You gotta feel it by yourself. Never felt anything like it. The sheer scale of the multiplayer gameplay, the amazing campaign... words fail to describe such a masterpiece. Yes, it is flawed, like everything in life, but still one of the best games I have ever played.

I love this game.
However...
1. The internet browser based Battlelog kinda sux. I would have less of a problem with it if it wasn't used to start the campaign, that is a f-ing joke. For multiplayer its whatever but for singleplayer? Cmooon...
2. Store page says that (My?) Xbox controller is supported. However when I try to play with my 8 Bit Do Pro 2 with X Input it just doesn't work. I can't navigate some menus and some important gameplay elements like quick time events don't work. But maybe I need true Xbox controller and not a X Input controller idk...
3. Requested EA launcher is just a another annoying level of crap that you have to go to. It doesn't bother me that much, but defo would be better without it.
Get only at discount. Probably not good for Steam Deck or playing with Proton. At least EA ain't that greedy with their older titles like Activision is with COD...

Overall a really good fps game. You can see they put allot of effort into creating a gripping campaign story line and even into the missions themselves. Not allot of games out there lets You drive a tank or a fighter jet in a mission which was amazing. The cut scenes are good, the graphics even better.
The ai are much harder than in Battflefield 1. The only downside of this game is that the missions are rather short, but enjoyable on the hardest difficulty . It can be hard to spot enemies in some of the jungle type layouts. The sound is good, good mission layouts etc.
Overall a solid 9/10.

Bought it on day one - I remember standing in line with other fellas, grabbing the PS3 version and getting a Battlefield 3 t-shirt as a bonus. Still have that shirt to this day. The whole thing felt like an event.
The game? It still holds up. The atmosphere, the style, the music and sound design, the chaos - nothing quite hit like BF3. It's an absolute classic.
And yeah, DICE or EA – fix origin’s key activation issue that prevents the game from launching. The community workaround helps, but it's a mess for new and old players and absolutely kills the potential online population. BF3 deserves much better.

As someone who grew up on Battlefield 2 but never got to play Battlefield 3 when it launched, finally experiencing it now feels like uncovering a missing piece of the franchise’s evolution. Even all these years later, it’s impressive how far the game pushed things — from its immersive sound design and visuals to the sheer scale and chaos of its battles.
The feel and atmosphere of the game changed significantly after the Bad Company sequels, and while I still feel nostalgic for the old-school look and vibe of BF2, these changes were a natural step forward. BF3 brought a new level of realism — collapsing walls, deformable terrain, and environmental detail we could only dream of back in the day.
Seeing classic maps re-imagined here is surreal. They look drastically different but still carry that familiar spirit. The improvements in visuals, sound, and gameplay are huge. Progression also feels much better balanced as you no longer need to grind for hundreds of hours just to unlock a single badge or weapon.
The single-player campaign, while more linear, offers a surprisingly captivating and cinematic storyline. It delivers tense missions, dramatic set pieces, and gives a solid glimpse into the broader conflict — a great way to warm up before diving into multiplayer.
That said, this is still a challenging game. It’s not your average run-and-gun shooter where bigger guns mean more kills. Here you need skill, patience, and tactical thinking, while making use of the terrain around you, especially when it involves vehicles. You earn your kills. You earn your moments. And that’s what makes it so rewarding.
Even though BF3 is over a decade old, it absolutely holds up. If you missed it back then (like I did) or want to relive the glory days, it’s still well worth playing. There are active official servers, some of which are well populated, so this classic still has life in it.

The most important problem is that multiplayer games are full of fake players and the worst lag compensation.
I have nothing against Battlelog, DICE did a great job with BF4
But imagine EA needs to provide a client update for BF3 in 2025. But look at the BF4... what?

Bought the game a while ago, wasn't the biggest fan, stopped playing and uninstalled to save storage space. When I decided to re-install it to try again, EA gives me some nonsense about "activation" and insists that my computer is offline (even though it definitely was not) when I try to re-activate it, making it impossible for me to play the game again. Or, in other words, EA robbed me.

Campaign review:
Peak Battlefield. It doesn't have the best visuals (obviosuly, it came out in 2011), but the story actually seemed realistic. The characters were great, nothing corny or unrealistic... unlike Battlefield 4.
(Spoilers): I do, however, find it hard to believe that we could destroy an entire Russian battalion. And I also find it hard to believe that there would be no repercussions from it, like the Russians didn't care. Other than that, I enjoyed the campaign. Especially the part in Paris.
You play as Americans for the most part, but you also get to play as Russians. I wish a battlefield game would let us play as Russians more. I love playing the US, but it gets old. It's also pretty clear that the campaign is a biased towards the US side, and I wish I got the same action on the Russian side.
(Spoilers): For one of the American missions, you actually engage with Russian forces. I wish there was a Russian POV to this, but since Dice is an American company, I see why they did this.
So, if you want a pretty realistic (and US propaganda) Battlefield game, then this is your cup of tea. Full price is definitely worth it, but if you want to wait for a discount, I was able to get this game for five dollars.
And just fyi, my critique of almost no Russian POV and US bias is the only critique I have of this game, still peak Battlefield)

At a time when the FPS genre was saturated with corridor shooters and over-the-top bombast, Battlefield 3 arrived like a thunderclap. Built on the then-cutting-edge Frostbite 2 engine, it didn’t just compete—it redefined expectations for what a modern military shooter could be. From its jaw-dropping visuals to its scale, destruction, and sound design, Battlefield 3 wasn’t just a game. It was a statement.
Let’s get this out of the way: Battlefield 3’s single-player campaign is not why people still talk about the game over a decade later. Following a familiar "global terror threat" template, it plays like a checklist of genre tropes—interrogation flashbacks, nuclear threats, forced stealth segments, and on-rails action.
It’s serviceable and visually impressive, but lacks the soul and freedom that defines the franchise. Still, the campaign deserves credit for its technical polish and set-piece scale, if not for originality.
This is where Battlefield 3 flexes—hard. Returning to its large-scale, team-oriented roots, multiplayer is the heartbeat of the experience. Conquest and Rush modes delivered iconic battles across sprawling, destructible environments. From the urban sprawl of Seine Crossing to the open tank playground of Caspian Border, the map design blended verticality, vehicle variety, and infantry combat in ways few games have matched since.
Classes were perfectly tuned: Assault (with medkits), Engineer (with repair tools and launchers), Support (with ammo and LMGs), and Recon (with sensors and long-range weapons). Each role had purpose, and the squad system encouraged tight cooperation—especially in Hardcore modes, where communication and coordination meant survival.
Tanks, jets, helicopters, APCs—Battlefield 3 made vehicular warfare not just a feature, but a core pillar. Learning to pilot jets or master tank combat added depth that went far beyond just “shooting better.” Vehicles weren’t just powerful—they were strategic assets.
Meanwhile, Frostbite 2’s destructibility elevated every battle. Buildings collapsed. Cover disappeared. No place was truly safe. That sense of dynamic threat and change made every match feel alive and unpredictable.
Battlefield 3’s sound design still holds up as one of the best in any shooter. Every bullet snap, tank shell, and crumbling wall reverberated with raw, immersive weight. The audio mix conveyed not just chaos, but tactical information—letting you hear threats before you saw them.
Visually, the game was jaw-dropping for 2011. Sunlight piercing through smoke, detailed textures, dynamic animations, and cinematic lighting created a gritty but hyper-real warzone aesthetic. PC players especially were treated to a graphical benchmark that remains impressive even by today’s standards.
DICE supported Battlefield 3 with an excellent series of expansions, each bringing new content and flavors:
-Back to Karkand: Nostalgic return of classic BF2 maps with modern visuals.
-Close Quarters: Infantry-focused chaos with tight, vertical map design.
-Armored Kill: Vehicle-heavy maps and massive scale.
-Aftermath: Urban warfare in earthquake-ravaged environments.
-End Game: Added fast-paced capture-the-flag and motorcycles.
Each expansion added value and variety, helping Battlefield 3 maintain momentum well beyond its initial launch.
Battlefield 3 wasn’t just a high point for the series—it was a genre milestone. It blended cinematic presentation with deep, strategic multiplayer, offering both spectacle and substance. While the campaign faltered, the rest of the package was so polished, so ambitious, and so ahead of its time that it remains beloved by fans today.
Whether you were parachuting into a firefight, taking out a tank with C4, or dogfighting over the Caspian skies, Battlefield 3 made war feel vast, chaotic, and unforgettable.
Pros:
-Breathtaking visuals and audio
-Deep, balanced multiplayer
-Amazing map and class design
-Excellent post-launch content
Cons:
-Forgettable single-player campaign
-Steep learning curve for vehicles
Rating: 8/10

I bought this game for its single player, I liked the engine, animations, and sound, but the campaign is underwhelming, the single player is most likely just a placeholder (some sort of tutorial) for the multiplayer.
The gunplay is light and flimsy, it takes a small amount of dmg before you bite the dust maybe because it is to compensate for the weak enemy bots and the ice skating weapons in your hands.
To start the game you need to press play in steam, have the EA launcher running, then your web browser opens up where you actually start the game mode you like to play.

It is ridiculous that when you buy the game it takes you to a web browser!!! I played the campaign no problem a while ago and i wanted play it again so i reinstalled it. Next thing you know I CANT PLAY THE DAMN THING!!!! It says i don't have a activation key for some reason. Its a shame that EA ran this franchise to the ground >:(
