Broforce is an exhilarating and unapologetically over-the-top run-and-gun platformer that delivers a wild, chaotic tribute to classic action heroes and ’80s and ’90s pop culture. Developed by Free Lives, the game embraces a pixelated, retro aesthetic and pairs it with explosive gameplay that thrives on frenetic pace and high-energy destruction. From the very first blast, Broforce immerses players in a manic world where each level is a playground of crumbling environments, relentless enemies, and outrageous physics, encouraging both strategic combat and reckless fun. What sets Broforce apart is its cast of “bros”—parody versions of iconic action movie characters—each boasting unique weapons and abilities that significantly influence playstyle. Switching between bros on the fly adds a layer of tactical depth and keeps the gameplay fresh, as players must adapt to different strengths and weaknesses while navigating increasingly chaotic stages. The level design cleverly balances linear run-and-gun mechanics with dynamic, destructible terrain that often changes the course of action mid-play. Explosions send debris flying, enemies careen off cliffs, and entire platforms can collapse, making the battlefield as much a hazard as the foes themselves. The game’s difficulty curve ramps up quickly, demanding quick reflexes, precision platforming, and efficient use of your bro’s arsenal. Despite the challenge, Broforce never feels unfair, largely thanks to its generous checkpoint system and local co-op multiplayer, which transforms the experience into a riotous, laughter-filled party. Cooperative play amplifies the chaos and camaraderie, with players covering each other, combining abilities, and sometimes accidentally causing friendly fire mayhem—moments that only add to the game’s charm. Visually, Broforce delights with its chunky pixel art, vibrant explosions, and humorous animations that lovingly spoof action tropes. The sound design is equally memorable, featuring energetic chiptune music and bombastic voice lines that reinforce the game’s tongue-in-cheek spirit. The writing leans into absurdity, delivering cheesy one-liners and ridiculous mission objectives that never take themselves seriously but always entertain. This blend of humor and high-octane gameplay creates a distinct identity that resonates with fans of both retro gaming and action cinema. However, Broforce is not without its flaws. The repetition of level themes and enemy types can become noticeable after extended play, and some players might find the nonstop chaos overwhelming or occasionally frustrating, particularly in solo runs where precision is key. The pixel art, while charming, limits visual clarity in intense firefights, sometimes making it hard to track projectiles or small hazards. Additionally, while the single-player campaign is robust, it’s in multiplayer that the game truly shines, meaning solo players might miss out on the full experience. Despite these minor issues, ongoing community support and DLC expansions have kept the game feeling fresh, introducing new bros, levels, and gameplay modes that add variety and replay value. Ultimately, Broforce is a love letter to the golden age of action heroes, wrapped in a bombastic, pixelated package that emphasizes fun, destruction, and camaraderie. Its perfect blend of humor, nostalgic flair, and challenging gameplay makes it a standout title for those craving explosive platforming thrills. Whether playing solo or with friends, Broforce delivers a wild, memorable ride packed with relentless action and endless “bros” to unleash on an unsuspecting world. Rating: 9/10

Although I do think that it is fundamentally a great game I dislike the RNG elements added on principle.

The game was fun in the beginning, but as i kept playing it, it became more frustrating because of few reasons: -Camera not including big enough area (I would often run into enemies even tho they'd be few feet away from me) -Bugs )(I won and died after which was unavoidable because camera was going up after a boss fight and during that time I died and was forced to re-do the level). -Not flexible exit (If I want to exit the game it would save before I enter a certain land at all meaning I'd have to commit to multiple missions at once without knowing how many are and how long it will take ). Overall it might be fun to play it for fun, but it is very frustrating for players who are competitive like me.

The most ridiculous and fun game I’ve played in awhile. You die soooo much but it’s so hilarious that you just laugh instead of rage quitting.

True patriots such as myself will love this game. And so should everyone else. So much fun that I replayed it quite a bit by myself, but it's also very fun to play with friends. Best news: you can play multiplayer locally using a shared keyboard. Not many games do than nowadays. You may want to set some keybinds for that, but I think that's the best way to experience the game.

Pure madness and fun distilled to perfection. Being a very potent concoction, should be used in moderation.

Broforce is a side-scroller where are play as a collection of legally distinctly different characters from popular action movies. Each life you have is a different random character, as you rescue characters each one adds to the pool of characters, so every time you are hit that character dies and a new character is dropped in for you to play as, this keeps the game constantly feeling fresh moment to moment as well as the fast and frenetic. Overall Score: Great

Great send up of the 80's/90's action gener with great graphics and a fun sense of humor and varied gameplay. My only complanit is that it sometimes repleactes the unfairness and cheapness of games from that time.

The game provides an unexpectedly long Story Mode which throws curveballs to keep things fun whenever it starts feeling repetitive. It offers a Hard mode that’s challenging without feeling impossible. Some critiques mention RNG affecting gameplay but it isn’t severe enough to be negative; rather, it boosts replay value in my opinion. Multiplayer is fun and straightforward. Overall, I’m satisfied, especially since I picked it up on a big sale. Very fun game

Broforce is pure, over-the-top action chaos, like an 80s action movie got cranked to 11 and turned into a side-scrolling shooter. You’re blasting through everything in sight as pixelated versions of action legends like Rambo, Terminator, and Chuck Norris, all reimagined as badass, pun-filled "bros" with their own explosive abilities. The gameplay is fast, loud, and completely unhinged. Destructible environments, screen-shaking explosions, and hilarious friendly fire moments make every mission a wild ride. And when you’re playing co-op with friends? It’s absolute mayhem, in the best way possible. From mowing down enemies to outrunning collapsing terrain and jumping into a chopper as the world burns behind you, Broforce is non-stop fun. It doesn’t take itself seriously, and that’s exactly why it rules. If you’re down for pure carnage, epic one-liners, and nonstop bro-powered destruction, this one’s a must-play. BROOOOO!

They should call this game BroFAIL, because you're going to fail and die constantly on all the missions. Thankfully you have infinite lives, BUT it's incredibly frustrating having to restart some missions over and over and over again, because there's simply too much chaos involved every single time. When half the viewable map is blowing up on your screen all the time, it's almost impossible for your character to avoid any collateral damage, You will die nonstop. Fun game regardless. but only buy when it's heavily, HEAVILY discounted. Like a few dollars at most.

I've played many hours of this across various platforms over the past couple years. I keep coming back - it scratches that retro side-scrolling action itch perfectly, and the character names basically make this "The Expendables : The Game" 80s/90s kids are the main demographic here and it's really built perfect for that group.

Honestly i'm on the fence. ITs cool.. but when i played online with a friend we ran into lots of syncing issues and unfairness. I remember the title card would play for a boss... WHILE the boss was killing us. So we couldn't move, but the scene was sitll playing and we were getting killed... Little things like that made me... not wanna play again.

Small platformer levels where you jump around and shoot at npc, nothing else. I would rather play any other platformer in existence

The game is very fun, especially if you play it with a friend, just be careful that your friend is not a moral cripple who, while pretending to be poor, sucks money out of you and then treats you like a rug that he can step on whenever he wants. x)

I've been playing this since it was a browser game. I would have funny suggesting action characters that could be in it. The environmental destruction manages to be more of a puzzle platformer at times rather than an action game, which gives you a variety of ways to approach a situation. The game's humor is based around a romanticized jingoism of the 1980s, so it's not anything you can take seriously, but that's a good thing. My only complaint is some of the earlier Bros you have such as Rambro and B.A. Broracus are pretty useless in the late game because of how simple and weak they are.

My son and I play this together. I lost track of the times we beat the game, but we laugh throughout each time. Sometimes we play multiplayer or ramp up the difficulty. We've played a lot of the player made maps - some of those are better than the original game! Play this game. Then tell you friends to play this game. Then play this game with your friends. And if you haven't played this game with your friends, are they really your friends?
