100% would recommend. Played for 7hrs (up to 5:18am) I beaten the 1st game on the Wii U, and MAN was that also a banger. Unlike 1, 2 is more linear but wayy more bigger and expansive than 3. Would've played when 2 originally came out but just didn't... Still playing the game, after 7hrs it hasn't disappointed! :D Anyway, I need sleep ASAP....

I quit the first game after getting soft-locked in the tutorial, so I entered the sequel with low expectations. Thankfully, those expectations were thoroughly exceeded. The main gameplay loop reminds me of early-game Terraria, where you just explore and mine shiny stuff. At first, I was frustrated that it's impossible to dig blocks while you're midair. But eventually I saw it as a puzzle, to plan out your tunnel structure strategically. There's also a mix of puzzle-platformer challenges to keep things fresh, as well as a ton of secrets to reward exploration and creativity. The combat is a little weak, but there are a few creative ways to deal with enemies that are fun to discover. The story is also forgettable, but maybe that's because I skipped the first game. Strongly recommend if you can get this game on sale (seems like it regularly goes below $2).

The first game was like one of those old flash browser games with a touch of aventure, if had some annoying little things This one, they improved in almost everything, corrected most things, but now it feels more like adventure with resource collecting mechanics, is not bad, it's just different, this one is a lot bigger, lot harder but overall I think it's a lot better Generally speaking, is still easy, not relaxing as the first one, you will find some very hard scret areas, the boses can be tricky, I would say annoying more than difficult, but compared to the first game, yeah, it's a big difficulty spike, lets say it transformed for a 3 to a 7 thinking about 1-10 The ending, I will not spoil, but, it was quite something, unexpected, the story could be better, but its a good plataform/metroidvania game, right now is on sale, it's really cheap, so it will give you at least a weekend of entertainment

Amazing game! Haven't 100% yet, but its such a good game. The visuals are stunning for a 2D platformer game. Also the lore is crazy. It left me wanting SteamWorld Dig 3 it was that good.

Not worth the time. Gameplay becomes tedious after a while. Very few of the puzzles in this game are actually interesting, most of them are just finding cracks in the wall to hit. Extremely abrupt & anticlimactic ending with one of the worst final bosses I've ever played.

Cozy games should not be limited to farming sim games. This game is cozy, easy & fun. Doesn't take away too much focus where i can listen to podcast audio in the background.

I remember playing this on game pass years ago and didn't like it all that much, but decided to give it another shot and it's quite decent. It's very linear for most (really all) of the game except the final few steps (although there are optional dungeons), but it's enjoyable. It's a pretty chill experience and I had a decent time with it. It has some pretty good puzzles and platforming as well.

Another fun Steamworld game. I'm really digging it! I love the exploration aspect of this game. Dig 2 feels heavily inspired by Super Metroid. I enjoy that its more relaxed.

10 minutes into game: Who does this glowing orb think he is. 1 hour into the game: Bro just be quiet. 2 hours into the game: It enjoys explosions... Fine. end of the game: [spoiler] I WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT YOU HAVE DONE FOR US AND I WILL SPEND THE REST OF MY DAYS SEARCHING FOR YOU.

Great sequel. Story is smoothly connected and it's nice to see old friends again. Game is longer but I would rather expect more diverse biomes. Also gameplay isn't as much focused on mining like first part so that's a downside for me. Visual style is more colorful and leans more towards 2.5D.

SWD 1 was very good - but the sequel is simply amazing. Much, much better in every way.

Really fun and easy to play. In classic Metroidvania fashion it makes you think you've got the hang of things and then opens up all sorts of new ways to move and explore. It's a straight improvement on the original in pretty much every way, even if the vibe is slightly different. Runs and looks great on Steam Deck.

Absolutely fantastic metroidvania. I played both 1 and 2 back to back for the first time. The original was solid, but it gets a bit tedious towards the end. It never goes beyond just digging downwards. I enjoyed it, but I don't think I was madly in love with it. This sequel however expanded upon the original in ways I never expected. I wasn't sure the original needed a sequel, but I was SO wrong. This is an absolute blast. The game loops feel tightened and refined. It takes the same core gameplay but adds new abilities with an action-platformer focus. The level design and world design is GREATLY improved. The puzzles, secrets, and challenges are extremely clever. I was able to solve almost everything without a guide. The final boss (no spoilers don't worry) is far superior than the original's as well. Everything here is better. I wasn't sure how much better the Steamworld Dig formula could get, but OH it got better. It's satisfying. It's tight. It's well-designed. It's worth your time. I consider it a must-play metroidvania, especially since the time committment of a 100% run is only around 10-12 hours. If you like the original and like metroidvanias, yep. This is a must-play.

Completed this right after it's prequel. It's definitely one of the easier metroidvanias and took a little under 7 hours. I love that about this game though. No shade on Hollowknight but too many games are needlessly difficult. It improves on Steamworld Dig 1 in visuals, sounds and gameplay. I appreciate all the fast-travel locations (pipes) all over the map making it easy to jump across puzzles. And additionally the shortcut buttons to travel to the main-base location or the last location. I like the cog system which lets you choose the 'assists' or difficulty-level with which you want to beat the game. Combining the jets, grappling hooks and jackhammer to solve the different puzzies/caves felt rewarding. I'd have loved to see some optional puzzles with a bit more complexity though. Overall, excellent game! 10/10 would recommend.

This is a fun little side-scrolling exploration romp. More varied gameplay than SteamWorld dig 1. Lots of variety in how you can modify your equipment. Simple, but colorful graphics.

Really solid, cute, fairly quick game (took me 7 hours to see credits). While it has all the elements of a Metroidvania (new traversal and combat powers, 2D side scrolling), there was always a clear target of where to go next. Each zone would give lots of room for excavating your way through (you're a robot miner), but it was always clear where to go next. This might frustrate some folks, but I enjoyed it in this game. There's much more of a focus on platforming than combat. The unlocks and item progression are fairly satisfying and consistent, which I also enjoyed. I also enjoyed the focused puzzle rooms that would have a specific challenge to solve and secrets to find. Really solid platformer.

One of the best indie Metroidvanias out there, you're practically scamming the devs buying this for 1 buck.

It's the rare game I would call "perfect" - and a sequel that improved on the already great predecessor. If you're into 2D platformers, exploration, digging and upgrading your character, you most likely have found this gem already. If not, it's a must play!

What can I say there was steam in the world and I dug too 11/10 the movement is way better and the skilltree made me actively search for secrets unlike the first game where getting secrets is way less rewarding

Good game but, the to hell and back achievement deserves a thumbs down. The game doesn't tell you how to play it and the secret level should be illegal.

I recently played the first entry and was hooked. I was thrilled when I found out there was a sequel, and started playing immediately. This game is a little slower to get into but man oh man is it better than the already great 1st entry. Much more emphasis on mechanics based on your items with challenging puzzle-caves for each item. Also features some more bosses that are quite creative for such a simple game. Great music and art as with the first one. Awesome game, buy it!

This is my second playthrough of Steamworld Dig 2. This is a major step up from the first game. It improves on everything that was good, and either fixes or completely gets rid of what was bad. When I replayed the first game, I was thinking “wtf was I on when I played this and loved it years ago.” But this one is even better than I remember. I really wish that the devs would make another metroidvania instead of whatever all of these spin-offs are.

It's a good, casual metroidvania with some survival crafting mining vibes. The story is light and unobtrusive, the upgrades are fine, the puzzles are easy, the mining is satisfying, and the combat is mid as hell. The exploration is well done, with a decent level of freedom, and the secrets are alright, though I would recommend playing without map markers, they're just not necessary. It's like a solid 6.5/10. It's fun, it's not really weak anywhere but it's also not particularly incredible anywhere. Got this on a deep sale and am glad to have played it.

For whatever reason games hangs randomly a lot, on Windows 11 gaming laptop with latest Nvidia drivers. It hanged 4 times when I dropped in tutorial mine and opened access to Inca temples in background. Then it hangs (and has to be killed in Task manager) randomly, around every 20 minutes. Refund was denied, so I will try to progress slowly with regular hangs of the game. Steamworld Dig 1 worked flawlessly. Also gameplay is much more puzzles, where you have to solve or look up puzzle solving. Difficulty has risen a lot compared to Digworld1, requires much more sweat to progress.

SteamWorld Dig 1 crawled so SteamWorld Dig 2 could fly at mach 200. This game is fucking perfect. Everything but maybe the final boss is perfect. It plays the way you want it to play. It's fast, snappy, convenient with no time wasting or monotony. And it's so God damn beautiful and the sound design/music is excellent.

This has been a really fun game! I enjoy the art style and the puzzles, which can be challenging but not too hard, and the gameplay is pretty fun! There have been a couple of bugs, but nothing that restarting the game didn't fix.

This game was really fun IMO. SteamWorld Dig 2 is a really unique approach to the Metroidvania genre where we can dig out our own paths to progress the game. The new graphics (which i really like), music and gameplay changes compared to the first one is a major improvement. Exploring the new map and abilities were cool (RIP steam jump) but the main story was nothing special and the ending was a little bit weird. However, I'll be really anticipated for the third game if it will ever happend!!! Also, get this game right now its like only 1 dollar!

Absolutely fantastic sequel. I can't recommend this franchise enough, but this game is totally worth it on its own. The digging is better than ever, there's more tools, enemies, and unique biomes. The characters are all delightful in their own ways, and Dorothy ion particular is a great main character. I love the original, and this is a monumental improvement in almost every way from mechanics to story. If you're a fan of interesting 2D platformers with charm to spare, do yourself a favor and pick this game up.

steam world dig 2. best 90p i have spent do not listen to these people with 0.1 - 1 hours on the game saying its bad and did not understand how to play when the game literally tells you. Anyway the game has a good story time (took me 4 hours, i was not rushing) now i have 11 hours and almost 100% the game.i didn't notice any negatives apart from the ending i found it to be quite anticlimactic but that's all on the cons, I originaly purchased the game to chill and have fun but i decided i wanted to 100% the game. I would definitely recommend Steam World Dig 2

Definitely a fantastic game - a wonderful successor to the first. I love the continuation of the story, the new art direction, the characters, the expansion of the world, the QoL, etc. One thing I am struggling with, coming straight from SteamWorld Dig 1 is the controls. Everything feels sort of inaccurate and "floaty", for lack of better word. Rusty had some real weight to him, while Dot seems to have this sort of sluggish momentum. This, combined with an increased focus on generic platforming does lead to moments of frustration. Now the developers do tell you it's best played with a controller, so I won't hold it against them, but it worked so well in DW1, so it's a bit of a downer. Nevertheless, I wish people would make more games like this; the vibrant world, quirky characters, interesting plots and colorful art direction are wonderful.

The rare sequel that improves upon the original. It is as if the previous one was just a blueprint for this one's success. The core gameplay largely remains the same but movement such as wallrunning has been improved. You no longer have limited pipebombs(dynamite) but instead they use water to be used just like the jackhammer(Drill). The upgrade system has also been revamped with a skill tree like system which allows you to upgrade your armor, jackhammer, hookshot etc to a greater extent. The gameplay has introduced puzzle solving as well which makes it more engaging. The game has value even at full price!!!

Easily one of the best Metroidvania games you can find. This is one of the rare titles where exploring and hunting for secrets actually feels exciting — you want to reach 100% completion, not because the game demands it, but because it’s genuinely fun and rewarding. The digging mechanic is incredibly unique — not just a gimmick, but a core part of the experience that makes exploration feel fresh and personal. It’s the kind of gameplay idea you almost never see, and it’s executed beautifully here. The game is about twice as big as the first SteamWorld Dig, and it’s better in pretty much every way — technically, visually, and in terms of gameplay depth. The art style is gorgeous, the world is full of atmosphere, and the movement feels smooth and satisfying. If you’re expecting Hollow Knight levels of challenge or story depth, this isn’t that. The story is simple and functional, and the difficulty is moderate — maybe even a bit too forgiving. But that’s part of the charm: it’s extremely accessible, chill, and never boring. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys exploration-based games. Totally worth the price, especially on sale. It’s a shame this game doesn’t get more attention — it’s a hidden gem, through and through.

13 hours of fun. I'm not the biggest platformer fan but these Steamworld Dig games are great.
