It's an interesting premise, but it's current version (10/29/2022) on mouse/keyboard is very rough. You're dropped in a cabin with four potential jobs, Training and then increasing difficulty. Let's just say it took me 10 minutes to figure out how to get out the door to Training because there wasn't an indicator that you had to bury your face in the door and then spam E. I tried the door multiple times from a foot away with no success, so I assumed it wasn't what was supposed to happen. It wasn't until I got so close my lantern was glitched through the door that it worked. The training was very basic, just explaining what the different types of clues look like under tests. Nothing about the key mapping (though it is somewhat intuitive), or how to trap monsters, etc. The game then drops you into whatever mission you chose without much explanation. I started off solo on difficulty 1, and stepped five feet into the maze before my screen got a blue tint and apparently I was caught by Mothman. Second attempt, I found tracks and bones that (when tested) gave contradictory evidence for what the monster was (not sure if the monster changes each run-through or if Level 1 is always Mothman). I went back into the maze to find several bone piles and tracks that gave more contradictory evidence as to what the monster was. I then tried to quit while in the maze, and I had a message pop up that then froze on the screen, so I had to navigate out of the maze back to the house and quit from there.
Pros:
-I really love this premise! A monster hunter that has to investigate and then catch said monster is something I'm really into.
-Doesn't rely on jump scares. At least from what I saw, the atmosphere and isolation is what gives the horror, which is refreshing compared to most horror games.
Cons:
-Lots of bugs. I'm sure a lot of these issues will be resolved over time, which is why I am holding onto this game and will try again later.
-No real explanation as to how things work, which is why I'm not sure if my experience in Level 1 were bugs, flukes, or if the easiest setting is really supposed to be that unforgiving.
-The graphics need some improvement. I'm usually not big about graphics, but it was difficult to find evidence unless you are right on top of it. And when testing bones, it was hard to tell if the bone was smoking or having no reaction because the texture of the liquid was unusual.
-Also the mouse sensitivity is ridiculous. I had to put sensitivity down to 3-5% just to be able to navigate.
Overall, I would like to see how this game improves over time. I've been waiting for a good horror game to come along, and I feel like this is it. It just needs more work.
