The funniest thing about Gungrave VR U.N is that... it's not really a second game. It's the second half of Gungrave VR. They literally just took the hour-long VR game, split it in half and released it as two separate titles. Because profit. To be fair, though, Gungrave VR U.N is cheaper than Gungrave VR and will cost you only $9.99 / £7.99. But the thing is... it's also shorter. Yep, even though the original Gungrave VR was only forty minutes long, this one somehow manages to be even shorter and you'll probably end up beating it in only twenty. A bit more if you'll choose higher difficulties, but you've got the idea.
And it's not like it's any better. There are no new unlockables (the only unlockable skin here says “play Gungrave VR to unlock”), while shooting-gallery-like segments were replaced by... side-scrolling sequences. Which, as you may easily guess, are not exactly what you may expect from VR game. I mean... VR? Side-scroller? Yeah... Some games succeed in doing that, but in Gungrave game... It's not like those side-scrolling parts are especially bad, but they're dull and first-person mode from previous game felt better. To make things even worse, those side-scroller parts are, like, the main dish this time and even the final boss battle is done in side-scrolling way.
Surprisingly, U.N works better as a prequel to G.O.RE. Because this time there's not only short anime-like opening, but also an ending that leaves you with some sort of a hint of what to expect from the upcoming Gungrave sequel. Don't expect anything big, though. We literally talking about a couple of seconds and a single word here. So... yeah... Let's just say that “Did you know that Batman f...” from the Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn says more about the upcoming Batman movie with Robert Pattinson than Gungrave U.N ending says about Gungrave G.O.RE. Even though it's still more than you can get from Gungrave VR, story-wise there's still nothing to bother here.
Gameplay-wise too. Unfortunately. Gungrave VR U.N feels like something that should be completely free. Remember those Spider-man VR titles that were made to promote MCU movies with Tom Holland? That's pretty much what we talking about here. Asking money for something like this? It feels pathetic. Even though yes, it felt good to meet Grave and Mika again and I totally hope that Gungrave G.O.RE will appear in Steam.
