I don't know why this game is released. Its not finished enough to be played comfortably. This game has potential. It would be cool if they could work out some kinks. First of all, there's NO tutorial at all. This is a thing with games now for some reason. You go into it and the devs must just expect you to know everything or be able to figure it out. Most people don't want to fumble around for 20 minutes trying to figure out basic game controls and interactions. Especially with a crafting game. Though, the crafting menu is pretty easy so they get a point for that. Its also easy to get materials by harvesting bushes for sticks, or chopping down trees with the axe. Your tools don't deplete at an alarming rate either. I love the main character. She is cute. When she jumps I can see her through her skirt though... You die extremely easily. And for no reason. There is no way to get clean water to drink quickly or at all. Your thirst bar depletes at an extremely fast rate. To the point you'll die within minutes of first starting the game. Same with the hunger bar. The wells instantly poison you and cause you to die. I have died every 5 minutes for an entire hour. Enemies kill you pretty fast. There is no way to block an attack with your axe. Combat is hardly possible. I was standing BEHIND one of the enemy ladies and hit her repeatedly and somehow her hits were still landing on me and killed me. The dogs chase you and there is no way to get away from them besides scrambling up a rock. Some rocks you can't even jump on. A lot of the environment in this game is simply aesthetics. Which is fine. However the scenery means nothing if I'm just running around dying constantly and can't find any place to get away from enemies. They kept glitching out and moving, and then when I died I would continue to hear the barking dogs or NPC dialogue for a few minutes after respawning, which is kind of annoying but not terrible. I don't know how you're supposed to be able to build a house or really do anything the game has to offer without having easier access to water. How are you supposed to kill enemies without dying yourself if you can't land any hits on them or get away from them? I'm a bit baffled at how people are able to play this game and enjoy it. Also, I'm a bit of a stickler for spelling errors and in game dialogue. There are some typos that need to be fixed. Overall, needs work. I'm sure if they listen to player feedback and keep working on it, this game could be playable someday. I feel disappointed I wasted money on something that wasn't ready. I will come back and update my review after I try to play it a little more. I love open world survival crafting games and I know a lot of other people do as well. It would be a shame to not fix these issues. Just wanted to add: you also cannot pause the game at all. So it it adds another level of stress. I get the game is early access, but its too early for anyone to play it imo. Maybe other people feel differently. I just wanted to let people know my experience and warn them to save their money until a later date. Cheers!

bought the game played less then 20 mins learning the controls. Within that time while learning controls hit the edge of the world and then ended up under it as well. Game made me feel like i was playing in a now globe next to a painting minus the snow. Its a seriously small play area and the fighting controls are simplistic to the point of reminding me of a turn based game like Final fantasy 1 where the guy steps forward an slash slash slash and then back again. This game is alpha in its development stage at best

I always try to give games the benefit of doubt but this one just doesn't have what it takes - not as a released game. Open world - nope. The actual area is very small and limited to only a couple of notable places. I actually tried running to the edge of the world and once you leave the small initial area there is nothing. I ran into the invisible wall that marks the end of the world so I know I got to the end. You can't survive out there nor even build structures (not unless you want to ferry the materials out) because the necessary resources are not out there. Building a big house substantially outside the initial play area is probably the only way to make this game last more than one day. Crafting - nope. I go into these games looking for to build up on the technology tree. But there is no tree. There is an axe, a pickaxe and a hammer. No way to upgrade those. No better versions. No swords, no bows, nothing else that is a weapon. Also no armor. It is necessary to build some crafting tools but only so when one dies one doesn't have to run across the entire map again. The basic tools are all that is needed to build all of the buildings. Buildings - yes. You can build buildings. Wood and stone. This would be the most "complete" part of this. However that doesn't mean there are a lot of options. Definitely less than 20. And there doesn't see to be much point in doing that. I did seem to be able to escape the druids in them but I was concerned that it seemed more like because they couldn't figure out how to get through the door. There is no weather to be protected from, the buildings do not allow one to heal (even though there is a bed), there does not even seem to be a requirement to use them for crafting. I put a bed and chest in one but not sure that was even required. Gameplay - not really. Not really my thing but it seems like the only effective way to proceed through the game is to die. Repeatedly. Retrieving the goods to keep one alive, due to no technology means that getting the necessary materials will likely cost you more health than what it is worth. I didn't solve the plot mystery because I had run out of the technology tree and seen all of the locations mostly before I even thought to look at it. I am not really a great fan of the druids respawning in the same spot over and over. At one point I had to kill about 10 of them and I knew the only way that was going to work was if I deliberately planned for my death and respawn to finish them off. For the vast majority of people I suspect they will find the actual play easy but irritating because there is no real way not to just expect to die. And the actual effective game area is very small.

First, I like the game. The graphic is good, inveresting area, and you can walk around a lot, but I just wonder what am I doing in this game anyway. I have built a hut, but the settings of foundations is not always possible and one wonders why. They are red marked, but nothing in the way. Some components such as chests , camp fires, ceilings cannot be set or several attempts are required, one of which may lead to success, but it is not clear why it worked this time. You walk around more or less aimlessly on this map. At the beginning there is a small tutorial, unfortunately it is not very clear when you have finished it, as the druids still want to arrive and fight. Fortunately, there are plenty of water points, as well as food, but the consumption of both is immensely high. When you consider that a person can go for weeks without food and for days without water. such behavior is very unrealistic. When you die you've lost, I was lucky that my chest with some inventory was still there. The loot: When you kill something I's pretty much hard to find your loot in the grass or in the area nearby, very often you can't find your loot anymore, simply because you don't see it. Are there any upgrades for workbench or equipment, i haven't found anything about them. There are different beds that can be used as a spawn point, but that didn't help me. You can kill druids, run away, try to store your loot, but the druids follow you over the whole map and the loot won't get you any further, at least for me that didn't help. Again my question, what am I actually doing there? I would like to recommend the game, but unfortunately I can't yet.

I love the fact that the character's hunger and thirst stats are not going down dramatically - like in some survival games - so you can explore the area rather than always searching for water and food. The crafting menu is pretty clear. The sound design makes you feel in the game's environment.

A fun and graphically beautiful Survival game for $5. I bought it for $2 when it was on sale. It deserves its price, it can be bought.

I have never played a game like this! The graphics are really good and i love the sound effects. The info given was very helpful and the game, very easy to understand. I really enjoyed the open world concept however i wish there were more monsters. I got to see some reindeers and they were very nicely done! I cannot wait for a new game. Recommend this!

First impression after 1 hour of gameplay I can say that graphics looks very good.Forest ambient is beautifully conveyed and the sound of animals is great (especially wolves).Discovering the forest with those graphics looks cool. There is some language errors in game but it's not a big deal.Diffrent type of druids or another enemies and animals can be added.Building things is okay but I believe that they will add new things with updates. You can get the feeling of survival easily.Pretty good for this price

A successful survival game. Recent updates have been good. Especially building a house is successful. There are many house parts and you can also build very large structures. I guess not only wood, but also stone can be built. The graphics of the game are realistic, especially the flowers are very diverse. The VR version of the game should definitely be made. At first I had a hard time surviving with Gretel. Native Druids are a bit strong and arrive at unexpected time. You can collect "animal skin" when you kill the wolves. You can make a band-aid with these and heal you. I want to put more items in my home. This issue should definitely be developed.

First impressions review: The sense of discovery is good. It really gives the feeling of survival. The Druid tribe in the forest will attack you dangerously. When you get stronger, raid their base camps. The number of animals in nature is good but needs to be increased. For example, rabbit can be added. I built a big house for myself. I put things in it. The items you can craft are various but I think they will be increased with updates. Game sounds are successful. Ambient sounds in the forest are beautiful. The sounds of Druids, crows, wolves are fine. About Gretel also needs to be translated into different languages. It would be nice if the game supports multiple languages.

About Gretel, is a survival game with a very original idea. I'm sure you haven't encountered a game that combines survival and building simulation to date. A very interesting combination indeed. If we look at the current state of the game; the graphics, characters and general atmosphere are fine, even, very fine for an indie game. Building construction simulation turned out to be much more detailed than I expected. On the downside, the animations, controls and camera angles aren't smooth enough yet. Also, the environment is quite empty yet. As you know this is an early access game. And of course the game mechanics, controls, animations, character and environment graphics, sound & musics, camera angles are not yet final version, I'm sure the game will be a lot improved if enough support comes. And especially the story has never been added yet. I am waiting for the story with great curiosity, let's see how they will touch the classic story of our childhood. My rating for now is 75/100. I have no doubt that this score will increase when the game is completed.

The atmosphere is great, the nature is beautiful and there's a sense of accomplishment with progress in the game. Charming, cozy and often funny.

Super buggy. Can't place objects or interact with them other than to pick up or drop them in some weird random way. Game save doesn't always work. Unclear why some construction objects (walls, floors) are blocked and no apparent way to clear the obstacle. The graphics are decent. There seems like maybe there's a mystery story in there, but good grief, the game needs some TLC to make playing through it worth the time.

This game has a very buggy building system, you can't build at random places for no reason. The same cloned enemy spawns around you randomly, trying to kill you. The only plus is the pretty environment, but the game play absolutely stinks.
