I've tried about every basketball game for vr by now, so i believe i'm the right person to say that this one has the best basketball physics i've seen to date AND it has proper net physics (as opposed to what feels like prerecorded animations in other games). On the store page it doesn't state it supports the oculus rift, but in my experience it's almost fully supported PROVIDING you have a 360 setup (there's no snap turning by way of the thumbstick here). I'll compare the best (imho) basketball games, so you can choose the one that suits you best:
Physics Comparison: "Hoops VR" has also good physics but the ball feels very heavy and it's difficult to give your shot the proper curve and "Nothing but Net" also has good physics but the ball feels light, you can't achieve a proper curve here either and the way you hold the ball in it is disorienting to me (the ball appears by design a bit above your controller). In VR Shoot Around the ball [strike]is still on the light side[/strike] weight is perfect after the 21st July update and the physics are spot on (you can properly curve your shot). Unfortunately no game to date accounts for different shooting styles [strike]and those of us who rely heavily on our followthrough to guide the ball are at a disadvantage[/strike] (EDIT: See update below - after the update i consider the followthrough in VR Shoot Around almost perfect now!)
Features comparison: Hoops VR is just an arcade bball shooter. You try to make as many baskets as you can within a time limit and you can choose between a large (easy mode) and a realistic basket (hard mode). The appeal of Hoops VR is to make a name for yourself on the high score boards. It's good fun, but a bit shallow. Nothing but net on the other hand offers a full court to shoot hoops and play mini games against the AI and human opponents. It has some very unique modes like playing HORSE or a mode in which you throw the ball down the court to pass it to yourself (which is a very creative way of playing basketball in vr full court!). So if you're interested in full court and mini games go for Nothing but Net. VR Shoot Around is pretty shallow at the moment, you can just shoot in a half court and that's it. although i've read on the forums the dev is planning to add mini games as well. One notable thing about VR Shoot around is its video player though: You can load onto it a h.264 / aac video file from your pc and have it play on a tv, which you can place anywhere on the court. That's great for anybody that wants to watch a show or load his workout motivational tunes while shooting.
In conclusion i'm personally going to stick with this game as my go to bball vr experience, because of the physics. For those interested i'm gonna be posting a first look video later this day and i'll post the link here.
EDIT: Short video with my first impressions https://youtu.be/3PUkXlaEGgg
EDIT 21 July 2017: After a couple small but excellent updates, the physics are now superb! The rim stiffness and power are very realistic now and the angle was improved also - i now have to use a good followthrough for my shots to go straight. Sample 20 free throws after the 2 updates: https://youtu.be/W7J0YQDb8jc
EDIT 27 July 2017: A sample of 100 shots from all over the court. No assists enabled, which makes it kinda tough to make a shot, but will help you judge the physics: https://youtu.be/YnLpKvOeVH8

First off, this is hands down the best basketball simulator out! You can literally spend hours in this gym shooting around, practicing half court, corner 3pts and free throws. The physics from the rim, net and backboard are damn near 1 to 1 with the real world. I got my brother and father to come check it out and they fell in love with it as well. If you a basketball fan, pick this up! You cant beat it for $5 USD. Do yourself a favor and pick this up and prepare for a sore arm in the process lol you going to spend ALOT of time in this gym!

This game is more fun standing up but if the ceiling in your room is low, it lets you sit & shoot. Its super addicting for how simple it is on the outside; you're gonna be tweaking settings forever to get the best shooting form but when you do..chef's kiss

Very good game but theres a couple issues, the movment is very janky, if you didnt have to teleport it would be way better, aswell as a jumping mechanic, but if you dont play quest to pc by all means, download this game, its very good, just janky

Notice how all these reviews are very old? That means they're outdated. The game now feels extremely bad, especially the movement. When you try to shoot, it doesn't even work like it would in real life. I don't know why people are saying its realistic, because it really isn't. The dribbling isn't even that good. Also, you shoot with one hand, which is really annoying. I prefer Blacktop Hoops, its free, and just feels better in general. Also, in Blacktop hoops you can actually dribble.

A fun little game, only problem is that sometimes the ball just drops out of my hand even though im pulling the trigger (and yes, I did experiment to see if it was the controller itself, but it wasnt). If you want a game that has good physics, this is the one for you.

Great and for the price.
Can't beat the price, the settings of how you can change the gravity of the ball is such a good feature, and gives you some fun modes like 3-Point Contest and 9-Ball. Most of the time i'm just free shooting around as it lets you go anywhere on the half court.
You also need to have proper form when you shoot, making it not a bad small sweat excersize
If you like shooting around in Real life, and a VR nerd, you'll definently wanna consider this for only $4.99

VR Shoot Around is the best bball VR game I've played thus far. As someone who loves bball irl, this game feels close to the real thing. I like how you can fine tune the "ball release" in the options, to really achieve the feel of shooting a real bball that has a little weight to it. I also like that I can customize the look of the court. Options and customization are aplenty for VR:SA.
You have a VR system + you like bball = buy this game. When I buy the Valve Knuckles®, I'll be playing this game much more often. The Vive wands diminish the experience.

For the price an excellent V.R. investment, if you like to just shoot hoops. Your throw is adjustable so if you want a more realistic feel or if you want assistance in throw force. I have an outdoor basketball hoop, it gets covered with snow in the winter this doesnt feel to far off from the real thing best part is I dont have to chase the ball down the frickin driveway.

this game is my favorite vr sports title, but it crashes when using virtural desktop and the oculus quest, is there any workaround for this, and you guys should port this title over to the quest, it would be great!

Thought I'd leave a review for this since it seems to be somewhat overlooked like many of what I'd consider the better Indie VR titles on steam. Put simply if you enjoy shooting baskets..practicing fouls shots/jump shots at the gym then this is pretty much that. Physics are about as spot on as you could imagine with the ability to tweak some of the settings to suit your preference..ie having a true to life simulation or less physically taxing arcade setup. As far as the shooting mechanics using oculous touch controllers with a bit of practice and switching the button used to hold the ball to the palm it can feel pretty much the same as shooting a basketball in rl. haven't mastered it to the point every shot is smooth but getting closer each time i play. Graphics are great and game runs decently if not 100% smoothly on my rig which is pretty much same as recommended specs. If your on the fence for the incredibly reasonable price you should buy this one.

Awesome VR basketball shooting simulator! Graphics and physics are great! I play on a WinMR headset and it still worked very well even though the store description specifically states that it requires Vive or Oculus. Keep up the good work!

It hasn't been updated since august, the valve index support is trash, and the shooting mechanics aren't that realistic

Ball is way, way too heavy. I don't know what all the other reviews were talking about, but I've been playing organized basketball for well over two decades, and without an absurd amount of "assist" turned on, it feels like trying to throw a bowling ball into the hoop.

For 5 bucks, you have an awesome basketball shooting game !
Realistic, you can feel the weight of the ball and shooting on a very natural way !
Good game to start the day !

The physics seems a bit wonky and inconsistent at times with how far the ball goes based on how hard you shoot it, but it is a very impressive--although simple--simulation. This is a solid sim, but the size of the headset and shape of my Odyssey controller made it difficult to perfectly simulate shooting a ball because you can't bring your hand as close to your face as you would without an HMD, obviously.
Even when you miss--and you'll miss a lot--it's fun shooting with motion controls. Teleporting around is quick and simple and the graphics are solid. At 90fps, the game really looks sharp and smooth.
I recommend this if you're someone who likes to casually shoot hoops and get a little exercise.

I’ll start by saying I did play this on the valve index which isn’t supported by the game. But shooting on this game does not feel realistic.

Probably the best VR basketball game out there atm, I'm excited for the future of these types of games. I would love to see different gyms/arenas/parks added to shoot around in, would make the experience a whole lot more realistic and better!

This game is so amazingly realistic! So far the best basketball mechanism in VR.
Shoot & Layup feels really incredible. This is the closest to real life basketball.
And the price is so cheap! Seriously, just buy it. You won't regret this.
I'm using Oculus Quest 2 and Virtual Desktop to play this and still feels amazing! I play it everyday.
Hope devs will continue this journey with DLC or something so the price is not this cheap.

I cant say it gets any better than this. Good game feel, simple environment. I doesnt hurt or cause strain. But most definitely my favorite part is the TV that plays videos from your computer files! Which it was bigger though, but an unexpected highlight.

I was seeking a more realistic basketball vr experience. Windows Mixed Reality is not officially supported based on the game listing but it works flawless for me with the Lenovo Explorer WMR. The game displays a warning about not being compatible with my device but it allows you to ignore it & continue. I had no serious issues with this title other than struggling to hit anything while attempting to play the 3 point contest.
This is not an arcade type game, you will actually have to practice your shots, angles & ball release. I was very frustrated at first because I was trying to play the game like an arcade type shooter & that won't work here. You need to shoot properly & release the ball by gently letting go of the trigger to sink the shots consistently.
I highly recommend you start from the free throw line & once you make your adjustments, test them out by shooting layups under the hoop. If you do well, you know your settings are proper for your shooting style. Practice letting the ball go by gently releasing the trigger as you shoot. In order to catch the ball hold down the trigger button or the ball will just bounce away as it hits your controller.
In any case, I missed over 400 shots but hit about 80 after making adjustments. Still work in progress. This might help some of you sink shots from free throw & under the hoop. Adjust accordingly to your shooting style.
Current settings:
Throwing Power = 1.2
G.O.A.T ASSIST = 0.5
VALID ANGLE = 6
RESOLUTION = 1.3
In game graphics all set to medium to ensure 90 fps.
TIP
When shooting try lobbing your shots forward & up while gently releasing the trigger.

So real ! Graphics are outstanding. Not a gimme like other Vr Shooters. Takes practice to get good. Compete in different contests for world ranking.

Best basketball simulator. Lots of opportunities with this game to be a major hit. One of the few games on Vive I was happy to pay for.
Only cons-
A) Kind of annoying to press Grip to get a new ball. Would prefer tapping the trigger if i clearly have no ball in my hand and there is no ball within a close distance (so I'm clearly not trying to pick up an existing ball).
B) Related, would also like to be able to bounce the ball.
Future-
A) Any plans to make this work with the kunckle controllers? That would be more realistic as those controllers will allow for a more realistic shooting motion.
B) Multiplayer would be great!

Amazing and simple. A great platform for more updates and i think a must have for vr. A little frustrating at times because it's borderline impossible to be as consistent as real life but once you figure it out it's something you keep coming back to.

Basketball VR games are pretty limited so far but for $4.49 I don't think you can go wrong with VR Shoot Around. Initially you may think its crap because it does have a learning curve nor is it as easy as sinking a jumper on NBA2K. There are adjustment sliders for the "power" of your shot and the range is more than enough to hone in what feels comfortable. Be careful about hitting your ceiling. I attempted a small 2" jump to make it feel more realistic but my controller kissed my 8' ceiling. If you have vaulted ceilings man I bet this game is awesome. To try and change things up there are 3 height settings for the hoop and maybe try shooting from your knees with the hoop at a lower level. You are able to customize the colors of the basketball court as well as import ANY Photo on your computer and place it anywhere on the court!!! That is pretty much what sold me on keeping the game ; ) this feature truly makes it feel like your court. Next thing is to open OVRdrop in game and either play music, stream a You
Tube classic NBA game etc.) I hope the developers continue to add on to the game. It would be nice if dribbling was an option but its nearly impossible to get more than 2 dribbles before the ball hits the controller at a weird angle and bounces away. If you ever wanted to have your own basketball court I say go for it.
