Echoes of the Fey: The Last Sacrament

I will admit that I enjoyed The Fox’s Trail a bit more, but that’s not to say that this sequel doesn’t have its merits. Like the previous game, it is a point-and-click adventure and visual novel hybrid. This story involved less mystery. While it did have a mystery to be solved, the story was much more focused on espionage. More importance was placed on the romantic routes, which I was glad about. [b]Synopsis[/b]: The protagonist Sofya returns, still running her detective agency. A childhood friend mysteriously returns to Sofya’s life after over a decade of no communication between them. As a daughter of the Emperor, she has many enemies. Sofya is tasked with protecting her while she stays in Vodotsk, unaware that an assassin already has plans. Meanwhile, a new character comes into the picture and blackmails Sofya into procuring a Sacrament of Tears from any source necessary. As the player would know from the first installment of the series, a Sacrament of Tears is a highly coveted item, making the task of obtaining it seemingly hopeless. Like the last game (and Woodsy Studio games, in general), diversity was represented. However, I was a bit disappointed that polyamory was not an option in this game. All romantic routes are exclusive, with the exception of one, but not because of polyamory – because of espionage. The game was quite fun and the story was definitely interesting. There was even a moment of horror thrown in! So, I still very much recommend it, despite any let-downs.

Echoes of the Fey: The Last Sacrament is the 2nd episode in this series. Large parts of the story are in the traditional visual novel format along with some point and click exploration that we've seen in the previous episode, with bits of the new table-top RPG board game sprinkled in as well. I strongly suggest that you play episode one 'The Fox's Trail' before reading this. You'll understand very little of the lore if you choose to go into this blindly. This episode introduces two completely new love interests: Katerina; Sofya's first love and Nikolai; the diplomat who is more or less the antagonist of this story. As well as two who were introduced in the previous episode: Arkady; the patriarch of the local cult...-I mean church! Lastly, there's Heremon; the sweet but cautious best friend and business partner of our MC. What I love about these characters is that they're not just blindly falling in love with Sofya. They all have their own motives, biases, and flaws. Arkady is blinded by his faith, Nikolai is willing to do anything to achieve what he thinks is best... etc. The way each of these characters is developed is what will keep me returning for future episodes. While I never understood the complaints about the art style of Woodsy Studios, they have definitely improved and surpassed my expectations. The CG's are beautiful and the new realistic backgrounds are a nice touch. The music and voice acting was also great, I don't have any complaints. I didn't run into any bugs within four full playthroughs. TLDR; If you like mystery, romance, intriguing characters, and female protagonists who aren't daft, then I'd say this VN is perfect for you.

I really like the Echoes of the Fey series and this is a nice sequel to the series. Solve cases as the fiery Sofya, get in and out of trouble, and maybe find a little romance along the way. In this VN/Point and Click adventure, they've added a new in-game board game that plays a lot like D&D. I enjoyed the extra gameplay factor, I like seeing how different characters played the dungeon master. +Pros+ +Main character: I love, love Sofya. She's flawed, reckless, and has major impulse control problems, but she is also very compassionate and can be insightful and intelligent. She's a fighter but her moments of vulnerability just absolutely endear her to me. I want her to grow and mature in some ways, but I mostly want to see her be truly and honestly happy. +Characters and plotlines: the characters are all interesting, believable individuals and the plotlines are intertwining, mysterious, magical, and exciting, I can't go into too much depth due to spoilers but the plot is clearly well thought out and the lore is interesting. +Voice Actors: the voice acting in the game is pretty good, but the gag reel you unlock after completing an ending is laugh-out-loud hilarious! I just about died laughing while listening to "Sofya and Friends Eff up" (yes that's the name). +Minigames: I liked the in-game board game, it can get tedious but for the most part I had fun with it. +Plenty of save slots +Acheivements -Cons- -Sometimes, I wish I could skip the board game, it could be slow sometimes and though I like it, it would be nice to be able to skip it if you wanted -I did come across a graphical error where the characters were blurry, but changing the texture setting to medium fixed that. -The art style may not be everyone's cup of tea at first, but it grows on you. I really like this series and the characters, it's an interesting adventure and I can't wait to see where they go from here. I believe that there is a lot more that could be done in this series and I don't think we've seen the last of Sofya and friends, at least I hope not! [spoiler] (I really hope there's another one, I want more adventures with Sofya and, not gonna lie, I need a committed/official/married Sofya/Heremon SO BAD! Even Sofya's VA demands it so...) [/spoiler]

I first played The Fox's Trail four years ago, and I always knew this was a series I wanted to come back to some day. This was a fun follow up, but I do feel we were left with more questions by the end than answers. SO many questions. And I wish so much of the story wasn't locked behind the RR mini game. I wasn't a huge fan of it and it felt out of place at times. That being said, defeating the final boss after hours of grinding was incredibly satisfying. Arkady was my favourite character in the first game, so naturally I have very mixed feelings about his ending in this one. I wish there'd been a bit more to his story but I enjoyed bits and pieces from his route. The CG's with him were great. Loved his maniac eyes. I believe this is the last game in the series but I do wish there were more to explore in this world. Particularly with all the hits for things that were to come in the future.

Woodsy Studio excels in creating games with a fascinating and deep mythos behind them. This is an nice evolution from The Fox's Trail, and yet another highly enjoyable game from the studio.

A good game with some gaming gimmicks to keep the game from being a standard VN. Changes between a VN, to 2D walking simulator to a small, if not complicated, D&D. If you like VNs with a bit more than basic reading, give this a go.

When I finished it the first time, I said that I like it’s mini game, hated the voice actor of the PC, and felt that the art was inconsistent in its aesthetic. after a 4th time playing it... - The mini game got old. It was hard written into the narrative and there were some light to moderate consequences to the story if you didn't win. So it wasn't like you could ignore it and just auto lose to get it over with. - The voice actor is only super annoying when she's trying to be cheery. When she was actually serious or angry, I kinda liked it. - The art didn't stop being inconsistent, but I guess my eyes got used to it. Steampunk american for the PC and French with wigs for the nobility why not? :P Additionally, I would have to say a HUGE flaw of this episodic game where I got the implication you carve your story out slowly is that the continuity is terrible. Epi 0, there was no romance but none of the decisions I made in epi 0 mattered. I assume a cannon was chosen for the 0.5 little story they wrote to bridge the gap to episode 1. The character is hard written to be an ethical slut, and I use the term correctly not pejoratively So the romances, even if they seemed to be going somewhere, are hardwired to end in some way. I romanced -person A- in episode 1, and in episode 2 I never saw person A or heard of them again, even if you chose the events that would literally have kept them in town/ The game does ask you about the decisions you made in episode 1, but they don't seem to have much affect. Four main characters that are both in epi 1 and 2 treat PC the same regardless of whether I said I slutted it up, didn't slut it up, argued with them all the time, got along with them fine, or trusted/distrusted them. And even in an ending where I tried to start a relationship with -Person B- we break it off. And what I thought was a cool default poly option with person C that occurred because you weren't with anyone romantically, it happens every time no matter what. so... what does that even say about my romantic choices, if PC is cannon open to a threeway with person C and person D? A visual novel should also just have a "skip to unseen text" option every time. Between having to manually skip AND play the mini game, I am unsure of how much of the 23.5 hours spent on this game according to steam was actually enjoying the story vs pressing shift, loading screens, and a turn based mini game that sometimes lagged. This has a strong but flawed female protaganist is absolutely their own character and personality with a lot of auto default dialogue. I found the story very absorbing the first round through. I recommend playing this game exactly twice. Maybe a 3rd time, after a long break, to prepare you for the episode 4 that hopefully will come out.

I love this game! The story and characters are well written as usual. The mystery is intriguing. Sofya's isn't over from the looks of it. And I wish there'll be a third installment. I played Woodsy's latest game "Crimson Spires" first, which I love very much. Now after I played the Echoes of the Fey series I have even more questions for both stories. Obviously these two worlds are connected. I hope there can be more answers in future game(s), please Woodsy!

The Last Sacrament is an excellent game, even better than The Fox's Trail, in my opinion. I really love the lore of this game, the way in which it handles religion and magic is very novel and interesting. The characters are also well-developed and have distinct personalities. I especially love Sofya, she has to be one of my favorite protagonists of all time. The game also includes a minigame in the form of a dungeon boardgame. On the whole, I thought this was a neat idea, and especially the last dungeon of the game felt quite intense! Sofya's differing magic allows for varied gameplay elements and I think it's a very clever move that each game has distinct gameplay elements (like turning into a cat in the previous game). My only complaint about the minigame is that movement sometimes felt a bit slow, but this is just a minor point. I played through the game in one sitting, even though it's not very short, so that should tell you how hooked I was! I am eagerly anticipating the next game in the series.

Just one sentence: I love it!! <3 If you played the other Echoes of the Fey, you will definitely love this one too. I was a bit skecptical about this new feature called RiftRealms, but after you undertand how it works and get the hang of it, it's quiet fun. For me the best part was, that we are finally able to romance Heremon! Wuhu ^^ But it's totally not over yet and I'm already looking forward to the next game. Thank you, Woodsy Studio, for another great experience.

Woodsy Studio has really taken the Echoes of the Fey series to another level. This latest release has an imaginative world, immersive storytelling, good music that sometimes sticks in your head, a metric ton of information and backstory (I'm getting obsessive about trying to complete the codex!), and a surprisingly amusing in-game game which showcases Unreal Engine skills, as do the location interior shots. 'The Last Sacrament' pays off with depth of content if you are a slow player that pokes at everything like I do, but could also be enjoyed with quicker gameplay if you were more curious to explore the different storylines/outcomes. All in all I'm impressed and enjoying myself!

I really enjoyed this game and even though it was the first game in the series I played, I didn't have any problems following what was happening. The only thing I might have preferred was a bit more depth in some of the dialogue when romancing Arkady. It would have made sense to bring up the relationship or at least mention it indirectly in the lasts scenes you can have with him. I replayed through my least favorite ending again hoping to see some additional dialogue which didn't happen. Other then that, no complaints. I enjoyed the RPG mini-game and had no problems in any of the boards even if I didn't optimize my equipment. I just needed to find/pickup everything on the maps and "cheat" to beat the boss.

I havent finished the game quite yet, but am enjoying it immensely. I loved the last game, and this game feels both more complex and interesting already. The characters feel complex and like they have their agenda, and the story(and the conflicts!) are very engaging. Only downside is that I've run into a few bugs, but it's not a huge problem and will hopefully be fixed.

This exciting new volume of echoes of the fey continues the series and the adventures of Sofya. It seems like each new installation is a little bit longer content wise and offers a few more options plot wise, which was definetly nice for an individualzied and imersive experience. This game also had a game within a game...rifts realms, a sort of star finder dungeon and dragonsisk game the people in the game world play. If there are more installments of echoes of the fey to come it would be nice if this is included in the next volume, or something similiar, as it was actually kind of enjoyable and evoked a sort of cool meta experience with the characters serving as narative game masters. I would say to be a vialbe game on its on, or a more in depth suplement mini game there probably needs to be more options for leveling up, as i'd exhausted those fairly fast and after that my charaacter was more or less unstopable. As with the previous game it was fun running around the town as our favorite human wizard interacting with the people of the town having adventures, romances, and intrigue...oh my! sincerly hoping there will be more installments.
