I am really enjoying this game so far. It reminds me a lot of the old Konami game Azure Dreams, but with a bunch of small randomly generated dungeons instead of one large one.
The game is a combination city-builder/roguelike. You have to manage your time, resources and income wisely as you try to rebuild your company, explore dungeons for loot and most importantly - survive the onslaught of encroaching monsters every 10 days.
As you explore dungeons, you can earn new attacks, loot and even team members. Just remember you have to pay each team member that enters the dungeon for you. The more powerful your Company becomes, the more you have to pay them. You also have to pay more for the more powerful characters (except DLC Nep-Nep. She stays nice and cheap while being arguably the best Warrior class in the game).
Time and resource management is just as important as dungeon crawling. Did a character get knocked out? it takes a day for you to heal them - and that's all you can do for that day. Want to buy items? Same thing. You get one action per day, except for dungeon crawling, which takes THREE days. You have ten days before each boss battle so every action counts.
You will probably die your first time with a boss battle unless you are really good with SRPGs and resource management. Keep your team close and make sure you play to type advantage. A solid cleric is the most important troop member as they can heal, while your others play murder hobos. When you lose though, you actually get stronger. You will earn bonuses to your next game by completing achievements. You'll have extra money for the new game, carry over some of the non default characters and more. Your company will start back down to square zero though, which can be a pain, but at least you've got that extra money to make it easier.
Here's a hint. Invest in the location that boosts your characters stats for the defensive (boss battles). At level 3, you will get a free healing of each of your characters after every stage of the battle, and man is it worth it. The locations that give you extra ATT and DEF seem like a good idea, but most of the dungeon crawls can be easy. The Defensive Battle boost ups ALL your stats, including dodge and Hit Points AND you get the free healing. Trust me on this - this is the easiest way to get to day 30. That doesn't mean you should ignore everything else; just that it should be your focus if you are having trouble with the D10/20/30 battles.
Overall, this is a fantastic game and I'm loving every minute of it. I love Roguelikes. I love city builder RPGs. The story is fun. The music is cute and catchy, but not overwhelming, and the gameplay is solid. SHACHIBATO! is a very under the radar game, but one well worth picking up.

Finished the game after a few runs. Each time you start stronger with more money.
Strategy is basically get the gold rim characters, upgrade your character stats, and uhh, play it super safe so you don't get overwhelmed by the horde of creeps if you can't steamroll through. Valmi carried me basically and could one shot any monster/boss. It def fills the srpg itch but with no real storyline, no customization with classes (only with 'artifacts' that are skills you equip, I feel like this was worth half the price I paid for it and there's no point in playing again. Would give it a 4.5/10

A good strategy game, with good mechanics and absolutely adorable characters.
Having to play it again and again, returning to 'day one' with more resources after losing the final battle felt a little weird to me at first, but that’s parte of the appeal of this game (apparently this is called 'lose-to-win' out there), integrating everyday actions (like exploring dungeons or hiring heroes) to a long-term strategy that must be developed in more than one or two playthroughs.
I’d love to see a continuation of this as a slightly more traditional RPG, where you progress gradually, dungeon after dungeon, without the ‘monthly cap’, with a good story, since, the plot is always the same with each playthrough (that's not quite a flaw, but... think of the narrative possibilities offered by a longer RPG).
Note: I saw that some players complained about the game crashing constantly, but so far I haven't had any problems.

It's a nice game, but it gets annoying very quickly since you're forced to lose multiple times and restart, repeating every dungeon over and over again to progress

Dull. Lose-to-win mechanics wherein you have to lose a bunch of times to even get the base stats needed to win the game. This is made worse by the fact that the set-piece battle are always exactly the same and take forever. If you LOVE grinding then maybe this is ok but I thought this was very poor design.
tl;dr Recettear but way worse

Very interesting game, at first I was thinking it might not be that good, but decided to get the game anyway and now I'm pretty much enjoying it a ton.
It's got a decent amount of replayability factor and it's pretty challenging.
And as someone who doesn't play SRPG's like this often, I can say, I'm pretty hooked on it.
Surprised that this game is one of those games that go under the radar, deserves more love.

The game is a simple Srpg with Building management. you don't level your units but instead you upgrade your buildings to boost the unit's stats. Very enjoyable I think its worth 15-20hrs of playtime. For the PC performance there are times where i suffer from framedrops but it's mostly happening when I end my turn and changing to opponents turn other than that i don't experiece any problem, I'm using R5 2600, Rx 580, 16gb ram and a HDD if you guys want to compare your PC specs. Lastly I recommend this game to players that like Srpg or wanting to play Srpg, There is no story just manage your teams and battle. It's not a must have/must play game but satisfy your Srpg itch.

Super fun little tactics game. It's tough with a roguelike aspect to it that gives you perks on each subsequent attempt. The graphics are not my favorite, but that's a big part of the lower price. My only regret is buying it at such a steep sale - it's easily worth $15 imo. Pick it up if you're looking for a light roguelike tactics/strategy game.

A real snoozeworthy game. It's a newgame+ simulator. That's really all there is to it.
Why do all these anime-inspired/weeby SRPGs have such awful gameplay (e.g. Tenchi Muyo! Game Hen, Hyperdevotion Noire, and this one)?
The core strategic elements of the game are so basic and barebones that they make FFT look like a masterpiece by comparison. Characters have anywhere from 3-5 mobility, they have 1 or 2 abilities, and... that's it, really. You can't take back your movement if you misclick, and if your party wipes out, you'll need to restart from the beginning of the game - but with some of the perks you've unlocked along the way.
The main gameplay loop of this game revolves around failing -> starting over -> grinding through mindless battles and becoming slightly stronger -> failing -> staring over -> grinding through more mindless battles and becoming slightly stronger... there is no strategy involved in this game. The only challenge in Shachibato stems from trying to stay awake while playing it.
Even the story is basic and uninspired, with generic, flat characters and the bare minimum of what you could call a "plot."
This is objectively one of the worst games I've played lately. I cannot recommend it to anyone. Strategy fans will be heavily disappointed. JRPG fans who want a decent story and interesting characters will be disappointed. Horny waifu warriors who want fanservice will be disappointed. Even people looking for hardcore grind should look elsewhere; the Disgaea games, for example, do the postgame-grind thing far better than this game does.

Do not recommend. 3/10.
Writing is sub-par. Gameplay is very basic and bad.
QoL features that have existed in this genre of games for literally decades are missing.
After you move you can't cancel the movement. After you attack or perform an action you cannot choose a character facing.
The rouguelite element feels miserable and depressing. You just feel like a failure. The gameplay is not engaging enough to be this repetitive. I bought it on sale for the neptunia collab. Can't even bring myself to play it for that long. I might try more but there are so many better games out there in this genre. This game would be much better served with a complex fighting system (it may get more complex later on, but I doubt it, a normal gameplay style (not rougelite) , and serious QoL improvements. It takes an entire day to go to the shop?! Absurd.

enemy AI is stupid. game is easily beatable. i lost twice, and on my 3rd run i finally beat the game. since there is no multiple ending and the AI is not challenging, i think i have no more reason to play even on new game+. the hardest dungeon is still too easy.

Let's get nuts tonight! Shachibato! President, It's Time for Battle! Maju Wars is the definition of a simple and dull roguelite turn based strategy RPG. If you're looking for something like Final Fantasy Tactics or Tactics Ogre, this isn't it. The tactical strategy is okay at best and an annoyance at worst. There's also not much character customization to be had. The story is almost non-existent and that might have been for the best, since the translation clearly wasn't done by native English speaker. It's not as bad as a machine translation, but is still quite jarring overall. Overall the game feels very casual but for some reason introduces roguelite and grinding mechanics that would be apt for a more serious game.
Those aforementioned mechanics just aren't very engaging. A lot of the game progression felt very artificial. In other games in the roguelite genre, if you have a good strategy you can still win against higher level enemies. In this game, there are some enemies by Day 10 which are almost completely impervious to damage until you've had a couple of game overs. What compounds the annoyance is that in a lot of roguelites, if you have a bad run, you can often die within 10 or 15 minutes. In this game, the minimum run length is almost an hour, assuming that you try to progress at all.
A more minor gripe is the fact that you can actually have a game over with progression in the first place. It's simply not congruent with the story. The game should have just had some kind of time warp take place - it certainly would be less jarring.

It took me 7 hours to successfully clear this rogue-like game (3 runs total). I felt like I got a very strong set of characters that helped me breeze through the game, but I believe you could get by with weaker characters if you played more cautiously.
The Rogue-like aspects:
- Certain factors such as money, characters, gear, and some bonus stats carry on to other runs; these are unlocked by completing the in-game achievements (ex. defeat 20 monsters, find a named character, etc.)
- The game is split into three, 10 day chunks; successfully completing each chunk of these gives you a "save-state" that you can start from in new runs, although its better to start from scratch
The Game-play:
- Plays like a "mystery dungeon" game, where you control a party of up to 5 characters
- The game is split into three, 10 day chunks, with a boss battle at the end of each chunk
- Going on an expedition will take 3 days, doing other things such as shopping or upgrading facilities takes up 1 day
- Characters can be hired or rescued, and each character possesses up to two different skills
- "Artifacts" are gear that can give characters either active abilities (ex. damage skills) or passive abilities such as +10% attack
Cons:
- The game crashes a lot when you either alt tab or leave the window; however, the game auto-saves after every turn, so its more of an annoyance than anything else
- The story, similar to a lot of other rogue-likes, is almost non-existent (the game asks you if you want to skip story sections after the first run)
- The enemy variety and move-sets are lacking, with enemies either doing simple attacks, or charged attacks that hit a specific set of tiles
All-in-all, I enjoyed my time spent with the game, but I cannot see myself going back to do another run. The game-play is serviceable, but once you've found some strong characters / items, the game becomes a breeze. These strong characters / items will never be lost either, as you would have to unintentionally not choose to carry them over in future runs.
For the current asking price of around $20, its up to you to decide if you're really itching for a short, simple "mystery dungeon" style rogue-like, but for many, I imagine they'll want to pick up this game when its on sale.

A real tactical RPG gem. I don't regret buying this game at all. If I would compare this game to anything else, I has a lot of similarities with Fire Emblem series. The game is a bit hard, and at it seems that you are expected to lose. Each cycle becomes easier as 50% of the money you earned last time, gets transfered to your new game. The game have savepoints each 10th day, but you can choose to start from the beginning each time.

I got this game on a discount for very cheap, but honestly it was still hardly worth it.
The game has massive potential to be very fun and enjoyable but the difficulty curve is basically a U-Turn/Boomerang, you think your doing good and progressing and then all the sudden everything hits like a truck as if you changed the difficulty to Dante Must Die Mode. If your into Challenging Strategy rpgs with little resources/abilities to use then by all means, Dive in, but if you were hoping for a relaxing little anime game that resembled a little disgaea and had a large amount of mechanics, Turn Around and don't look back. If the devs actually payed attention to customer feedback they could add immense amounts of easy fixs/changes to make this more enjoyable but unfortunately this is just too much.
- Also as a side note, you don't get any of the DLC characters until you recruit them and survive on 10th level increments, so if you cant beat the level 20 Boss then you just wasted the other 10 days worth of choices and grind. Once you die you go back to the 10th increment day you survived or you start a new game. Just not worth that much punishment.

I grow up playing games like these on GBA. So just had to get it. I wish there is a neutral review option because I don't quite recommend nor do I not recommend it. For me, it's just because I have outgrown SRPG and could not say I enjoyed it as much as my kiddy-self would. Got the game at a 90% off so it's quite a steal.
PROS: Cool SRPG, game mechanics
CONS: The need to repetitively remember to hit Space to select (it might have been an intuitive memory muscle on console rather than laptop keyboard)
<-- Review written for 3 Point Play -->
The game is pretty good actually, I'm not quite sure about why is the review score at "Mixed" right now. I mean, I haven't completed it (though I don't think it is a really long game) and maybe one or two bad things I could say about it is the lack of a proper storyline, and character customization... but other than that, it's a pretty solid, if anything else, strategy RPG with rogue-lite elements.
It surely scratches my grinding itch, the gameplay loop is easy to understand, and there's a bit of a sense of progression as you lose a few times and get some perks and benefits for your next run. The element system is pretty nice as well, not something I'd call innovative nor anything like that, but I liked seeing the variations in different heroes depending on their elements, my favorites are the Crystal ones, as they feature a quite regal appeareance to them. I'd say Shachibato! is a pretty nice game to have for one of those days you kinda want to grind, you want to partake in some of that strategic gameplay, but don't really want to neither grind that much nor really want to think that much either!
I'll probably finish it soon enough. Lost some progress when a friend talked to me here on Steam, and the game crashed after alt-tabbing. What's up with that?

Shachibato! President, It's Time for Battle! Maju Wars is the longest game title I've ever had to type, and funnily enough its one of the shorter but unique games I've played. Its a strategy turn based RPG similar to Final Fantasy Tactics, it has your standard fair like classes, elemental types, gears and bosses which all make the combat interesting enough. What sets it apart from most the competition is it is rogue-like setup similar to Hades in that when you 'game over' you come back with unlocks and carry over a portion of your progress in cash, and a couple of your characters. I beat this game in one sitting and on my second run (it was about 13-17 hours of gameplay, I took a nap on the couch for part of the game-time lol), using the first run to learn the mechanics, therefore I can conclude the game is very fair and actually just requires a lot of thought (although I do consider myself quite proficient at strategy games [Humble Brag]). The only part of the game that is sub-par is the story as there may as well have been done, but for the rogue-like genre this is not uncommon. That and there is essentially almost no replay value, unless you want to explore different squad strategies. Overall this game is an exceptional value, especially because it is often heavily discounted meaning there is a lot of game there for minimal cost. A full recommend for any strategy JRPG gamer.
GIT GUD GUIDE
The following is a rough dossier on how to basically 'git gud,' I will omit some of the finer combat details since I'm not going to play the game for you....takes the fun out of the strategy.
General - You want to explore and invest in HR and the Exploration house that gives bonus cash.
Squad Building: For squad building it depends largely on how you want to do your exploration, you can cheese levels and run through or explore them in their entirety killing everything in your path, for the latter which was what I did mostly you will need a healer, the rest of your squad composition is flexible. Remember clerics can also use offensive magic so they can do double duty for you. Ranged equipments and stat buffs are often best for your warrior/defender types, although if you are lucky enough to get a +MOV they help greatly too. Having a rogue is essential for level scouting and loot collection, yes they are almost useless in actual combat but they provide out of combat utility. Ultimately I used a couple different squad compositions in my short time and all seemed effective in their own way. Experiment with this, and remember its based on the characters you acquire.
Over-world planning - The most important part of any roguelike is the beginning, for this game you want to essentially invest your time exploring and upgrading the town structure that gives you +% to your gold drops, on the last day you will need to dump all your cash into HR for stat upgrading your characters (the first Defend boss at day 10 is so easy I actually skipped the HR dump and did it after I cleared it for the additional $) The Day 20 boss was the hardest for me, and honestly I had a lot of close calls in the fight because its a tight bridge based level. Prep wise all I can suggest is having a diverse elemental setup in your squad and enough range damage/mobility to deal with the monsters/manju who blow up on death and the ranged monsters. Otherwise the same double explore and invest. The last 10 days were kind of easy for me since I was lucky enough to find Akari, meaning I absolutely cheesed the final defend using AOE blast of totally-not-overpowered-at-all-1-button-win-game skill. But the preparation still involves the same two actions of exploration runs and invest. You will note that the most effective way to do this is invest just before the defend fights as it gives you extra turns, also its important to keep your important squad characters alive, some are expendable, and can be replaced with those you find in dungeons, but often your healer/specialized characters may need a day to revive before the defend fight. Lastly you want to do the most difficult levels available to you as they give the most cash, you can also 'infinitely grind' boss rooms for quite literally limitless gold but it becomes the South Park World of Warcraft killing starter boars situation.
TLDR: Get Akari, win game.
