Jesus Christ be praised, this is a peasant simulator -- 8/10 The best thing about this game, it's a realistic medieval simulator, the worst thing it's a realistic medieval simulator... so you will suffer and die for a lot of things (Don't forget to save!). The game has a well written story, however I faced some terrible bugs that I had to load the previous saved game in order to continue, another good reason to save often (I spent like more than an hour stuck hunting hares with Hans because the game didn't progress the quest). Took me some time to get used to the combat system and learning master strike helps a lot. This is not a game for everyone, and if you want to give it a shot, remember: you are a peasant, you don't have resources, don't know how to read, don't know how to fight, don't have any support, you are alone and you are just a fragile human being in a ruthless world. Good luck!

What a ride!! At first I found it really weird (especially after just finishing Oblivion Remastered), but then I was hooked. The game is so immersive it feels like a time travel, and I just could not get enough of it. I don't remember the last time I played a game and lost the track of time, going to sleep at 4am because of it. The peaceful horse walks, the amazing landscape, the villagers and the detail in everything. NPCs don't just teleport after saying "meet me there", sword fight is not just randomly clicking and you actually have to sharp it from time to time. Most quests fail and the game continues, forcing you to come up with new solutions. And the story? Oh gosh I thought I was not going to like it but got easily hooked by Henry's story and wanted his revenge as much as it was mine. Love the game!! Can't wait until Kingdom Come 2 becomes cheaper so I can afford it.

It is one of the best games I've ever played. The first thing you notice is how immersive it is - you truly feel like a medieval peasant who starts with nothing and slowly makes his way into higher echelons of the world. Along the way you'll complete multiple main and side quests and get to experience many stories, some serious and complicated, some lighthearted and fun, and even funny (though it never feels like it's trying too hard). All this while navigating the world that lives its own life independent of the player (which isn't really true, but the game does a good job of making this illusion appear real): you get peasants going about their day, beggars begging on the city streets, shops opening and closing, bandits setting up and ambush to rob you... The combat system pushes the realism even further. There's two major classes of weapons: bows and melee weapons. Bows are extremely satisfying to use, due to being hard to shoot - there's no reticle, so hitting anything further than a few steps away from you is a crapshoot - but also being very powerful and having the ability to one-shot even fully armored enemies with a headshot. Ironically bows may be the best overall weapons for both crowd control single-target combat. Swords, maces and axes are comparatively harder to use, since the enemies block your blows easily and often have unavoidable counterattacks. This makes combos hard to execute and somewhat pointless. There are also no special mechanics when fighting multiple enemies, made worse by the hard lock-on system making switching your focus hard or impossible, and it's easy to be overpowered by just a few low-tier enemies that would give you no trouble on their own. I think the melee combat could really shine with some fine-tuning of the mechanics, but alas. I can understand why it would be a dealbreaker for some people, though they'd be missing out on the rest of this otherwise fantastic experience. It's a must if you like RPGs or medieval themes.

Everyone told me "This game is so good! The story is great. The fighting is super difficult, but realistic. You'll see you'll love it!" Honestly the story is good, well written really entertaining. I enjoyed it. The universe is beautifull, full of life. The fighting? ... The worse I've ever seen in ANY GAMES. A lot of people told me "You'll get used to it, just take your time". Anyone saying that are just making excuses for a bad combat AI. Every ennemies are simply pushing until they are in your face. All you can see is their face, then they shove you and stab you. This game is sold as a "Story-driven open-world RPG that immerses you in an epic adventure" not a "Medieval simulator." I personally lost count of the amount time I get ambushed by 3-6 people and all you can do is run away. If you try to fight them they will just press you foward until you get stuck in something and then they just shive you to death. The bad fighting AI removes all the fun from the game. I had more fun playing tarkov with the silent granades than this game. ---------- Edit: Ok looks like I need to be a bit more thorough with my review. This game is great, but badly described and/or categorized. Like I said, the story and universe is amazing. I'm not trying to convince people that this game is the worse game ever. This review is to make sure that people looking for a nice and chill "Story-driven RPG" don't spend their money on this game. This review is to warn people that haven't bought this game yet not to be baited by the tags and description. This game isn't what it says it is. This game is a Story-driven medieval simulator with RPG aspects. If that game was categorized as such less people would be complaining about it. People are jumping in with the description and tags in mind and after a couple of hours they realized they've been lied to. Just be honest about the game, that's all people want. Some people are "coming at me" in the comments and that's valid. You're allowed to like the game and I understand why you do. I'm not trying to change your mind. Let me just adress some things that was said in the comments. So some people are commenting : "But in real life if you get ambushed by multiple people you'd also have a rough time". You are right, I agree with that. Why would people try to fight you in a 1v1 if they are 6? The thing is this isn't real life. I'll say it again, this is a game that is supposed to be a Story-driven RPG, not a Simulator. Realistic games are great, I have +3k hours in Tarkov. No issues with those type of games. Just sell it as such. Challenging games? No problem, I've finished Elden Ring base game and DLC. It was marketed as a hard and challenging game. In the case of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, they are marketing the RPG aspect bigger than what it actually is. The RPG aspect don't really make you "stronger" you just get more mechanics to make it "easier" / better quality of life in the game. Ex: -You are now more efficient at keeping your weapon in good condition. Nice, neat. Not game changing. -You've got better with your sword, here's a new combo. Sweet. Don't change much tho. Some people are also saying "This game isn't a kill-them-all and you're not supposed to have an easy time when you get ambused by multiple people". Scavs spawn on you in Tarkov and it's easier to deal with them than it is to deal with beggers with wodden stick in this game. The NPC has no "survival instinct" they just walk in. They are all equiped with little daggers and sticks, while you're in full armor with a double hand sword? They still just walk in. I don't get why people are defending a bad AI behavior and mechanics by saying "It's just realistic. Get good. Skill issue". The only thing they do is this: -Walk in -Push you -Stab you -Repeat For those thinking I'm "shitting" on the game, I ain't. If the AI was better or if they added a dificulty slidder (Like any actually RPG) this game would easily be a 9/10. The bad AI drains all the fun out of it. I was stuck for hours on a small area boss fight. The trick that was given to me by a lot of people was as followed : "Don't try to fight him, run in circle and use a bow." No one was able to give an actual tip to fight the boss. No combo recomendation, no mechanic explained, no one said "Go get this skill that will make it easier". "Cheese it" was the thing everyone agreed on. If everyone agrees on cheesing a boss just to keep progressing with the story, it shows how bad the AI is. I'll say it once again, this game isn't categorized nor described as a "Simulator/Challenging" game. Either adapt the game to fit the category you put on your game in or change the category/tags of the game to fit the game you're selling. I am convinced that if they gave an accurate description of the game, must of the complain would just stop. Don't sell me an orange if you're selling apples.

A game with a great atmosphere, rich storyline, and realistic historical background. Pure medieval times, without magic or dragons. The available mods only enrich the gameplay. The combat system is slightly different from other games of this type, but interesting.

OMG!!! Where has this game been all my life?! I can’t believe I waited years to play it. Clearly, I’ve been making poor life choices. But hey, better late than never … and WHAT a wild ride it was! The characters? Chef’s kiss. Watching Henry go from awkward blacksmith’s son to full-on hero was pure gold. Sure, he stumbled, got punched in the face (a lot), and probably smelled like a medieval armpit most of the time, but hey, we made it! Character development, baby. Now … the combat system? Oh boy. Let’s just say it’s uniquely awful. I’ve seen smoother sword fights in toddlers' playgrounds. Grinding to level it up felt like a medieval gym membership from hell. And that LOCK-ON feature? Whoever invented that clearly wanted me to suffer. I don’t know if there’s a way to turn it off ... but I do know that once you’re surrounded, your only options are pray … or die fabulously. But you know what? I still powered through to the end, and it left me thirsty for more. Lucky for me, KCD II was already out before I even started this madness. Time to dive back in and make more questionable decisions!

If you enjoy getting all the achievements, especially in a single run, I recommend not doing that on your first try. The best experience with KCD is playing it on normal mode, with all its DLCs, and simply immersing yourself in the world without stressing over tough achievements like Merciful. Play for the story and the atmosphere. Then, on a second playthrough in Hardcore mode, you can take your time hunting achievements. Trying to do everything at once will only ruin the experience. KCD is one of the most immersive and realistic RPGs I’ve ever played. From the very beginning, it demands that you eat, sleep, bathe, train, and progress slowly through real effort. There are no shortcuts or magic—just you, your sword, and your wits. The world-building is spectacular: architecture, towns, forests, music, and even the NPCs reflect an impressive level of historical accuracy. The story is strong, with memorable characters, emotionally impactful quests, and meaningful choices. The protagonist’s growth feels genuine and rewarding. You start as a nobody, but through your actions, you earn your place. And when you finally master the combat system, alchemy, or even reading, the sense of achievement is real. Kingdom Come is not an easy game, nor does it want to be. But if you’re looking for a deep, grounded experience with no fantasy fluff, this is a gem worth living through (at least twice).

This game is an incredibly slow burn. Every other RPG I've ever played, you start weak, but still a child of destiny. This game? Henry can't read, fist fight, hold a sword. Nothing. I started the game in 2020 and bounced off hard after only a few hours. Fast forward to 2025 and multiple videos of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 have motivated me to give it another go. It still moves at a glacial pace, but once you're given a horse and can move freely around the countryside, the enjoyment ramps up. I'm about 25 hours in and am committed to seeing the credits roll. If you've ever had any interest in this game, you've probably already tried it. If you haven't but are still curious... wait for a Steam sale. There's no middle ground with this game. You'll love it or you'll hate it. Wait for a sale so you don't have a huge buyer's regret in the event you hate it.

There is a lot of good stuff here, but unfortunately I cannot enjoy this due to a couple of things: - Forced camera lock in a first person game, where You fight multiple enemies more often than not. - Master Strike making the whole combat system pointless. - Dependence on numerical values of skill is slightly too important for my tastes - You can find yourself performing combos and applying combat rules correctly, but barely hitting anything because the number on the character sheet is too low. This wouldn't be a problem in a less interactive combat system. Thankfully it's mostly noticeable only in the early game. - Tons of bugs and iffy performance 7 years after release. If You don't mind things I listed, You're probably in for a good time.

Punching underwater simulator. The combat is just too clunky and the AI too inconsistent. A shame as the game world and story and most other elements were fantastic. Think that's me done at 15hrs

What a game. I saw this game for years during various sales and never thought it was a game I would enjoy. Then comes KCD2 and get's seemingly universal praise, so then I decided to give the first game a shot and oh was I happy I did! I'd describe this game as a mix between Skyrim and Red Dead 2. Skyrim for part of the medieval setting and rpg elements, Red Dead for the deliberate slowness that add a nice realistic depth to everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING). I quickly discovered this is more medieval-sim than just a fun medieval rpg. I thought I knew that, but I clearly didn't know the depth that it would commit to that. I absolutely love it for that, though. There are so many systems in this game that all have been given so much thought and depth to make them feel weighty, such as alchemy, gear maintenance, and bartering, that would otherwise feel half-baked in just about every other game. On top of that is an engaging story that sees your character go from a guy who can barely do anything to someone who feels like they can handle the world. Now for my only real critique: the combat. First off, I really enjoy the combat. I think its quite a fun experience, and like just about everything else I think it's done perfectly to reflect realism. However, this means that it can quickly become frustrating in certain circumstances. Solo combat against groups of enemies is never fun and was almost always a death sentence in my experience. I can't complain too much, though, it makes sense that a group of enemies would surround me and beat me to death at the same time, its just not so fun from a gameplay perspective. This wasn't too bad though as I was able to revise my tactics and approach in ways that worked for me (stealth, pick some numbers off with arrows, etc.). Then there's the large battles that happen a few times throughout the story, none of which felt as good as they looked. They would always devolve into two groups clashing, with me awkwardly trying to help my side by getting a few hits in. Less frustrating but more disappointing. Thankfully, when it comes to one on one fights, I thought the combat was spectacular, which is why I'm disappointed its not the same all the time. Even despite some ultimately minor frustrations I have with elements of the combat, I think this game is a shining light for what games can be. There is so much attention to detail, and I loved living in this world. It's definitely a slow experience that I don't think will be for everyone, but even if you don't think its right for you I'd still try to give it a shot if nothing else (I'm certainly glad I did). Can't wait to get to the 2nd game.

shitty combat, master strike simulator for the whole game. after playing even more and being stuck bleeding in the quest Baptism Of FIre because i cant use a bandage since its a long scripted invasion scene I am left with 5 health to fight the final boss of the scripted scene with the last save being at the start. I cannot in good conscience recommend this game with anyone who values their time but unemployed people have a lot of that it anyways.

Such an immersive and well written medieval rpg, something we're kinda lacking a lot of. Just a purely medieval historical rpg. This game is excellent in so many different ways. The story is quite interesting with some fun beats that make it engaging. It's also quite historically accurate, with the small details down to the armor and the architecture being true to the time period. The combat is very in depth and leaves you to your own to strategize properly, making you think before engaging in combat. The realism of the world and the way it forces you into the shoes of the character are spectacular. In full honesty, I don't really have anything negative to say except maybe the camera could be better. A very solid game and I highly recommend it.

The save system is crap (unless you waste a few hours on alchemy or install a mod), the optimization is crap (it runs worse than games released seven years later), and the combat is crap (outside of duels). The game and its developers are very pretentious and attract the worst kind of audience, making the game's community unbearable. Outside of that, the game is pretty good, but it gets overshadowed.

only 30 hours in - one of the best open worlds i've ever played. i havn't gotten sucked into a games world since around fallout 3 or oblivion came out. story and writing is captivating and realistic , biggest props to the developers for making the characters talk and act like real people. not anything is really "surface level". biggest hurdle for most people would be the combat, but after a while it clicks with you and is not near as hard, but even then combat is more of a side activity in a way. takes a while for you to warm up to it, took me maybe 4 hours until i got hooked, but this thing goes on sale for maybe 3 bucks multiple times a year.

This isn't a game, this is your second life. It's impressive how this game managed to be so realistic and immersive, it's the kind of RPG that doesn't take any fantasy BS and makes you spend the day like how you would in real life (though it is of course simplified in some areas). In the story you are not some legendary knight that is there to save the entire world, you are just a simple commoner, adding more to realism, which is quite a breath of fresh air. At first I disliked the combat system, but after I came back to the game and tried to master it, it quickly became very enjoyable, with every takedown bringing you more satisfaction and as a message telling you "Good job mate, you're closer and closer to become the best knight." And if you worry about the story content, don't. I played for around 51 hours as of writing this and I don't think I yet reached half of the story, with plenty of activities and locations for you to explore and spend time. This game is to be taken as difficult, and it's totally okay if you don't manage at first, what matters is practice, just like in real life. There is also the Hardcore mode which makes the playthrough that was already hard, even more chaotic, which will be my goal after I finish the normal game and be sure that I am very familiar with the combat. An unforgivable masterpiece.

Boring ass game. Talk to person A, person A tells you to talk to person B, travel for 5 minutes, person B tells you to talk to person C, travel for 5 minutes, talk to person C, etc etc repeat until finished. Its fetch quest after fetch quest. Very rarely does anything truly interesting happen. A lot has been said about KCD's immersion and realism. To that I say, why can I learn to read in 3 minutes? Why can I eat out of literally anyone's cook pot? Why can I sleep in (almost) anybody's bed? If I'm on the literal brink of death, why can I drink a potion and be bright eyed and bushy tailed within 5 minutes max? Why am I pointed to quest locations on a compass rather than having to actually figure stuff out on my own? The only conclusion I can come to is that KCD wants to make you feel like the game has realistic gameplay without having the balls to demand anything of the player that could be considered remotely inconvenient. The combat is a janky mess too. While you would imagine a game with a more realistic approach would favour the fighter with the most skill, this is unfortunately only true to an extent - the extent of your character's in-game stats. You can't outskill your opponent, it all comes down to whether you have the higher numbers. So inevitably you will learn to exploit the system, to learn that, for some reason, bows are vastly more powerful than swords even in close quarters combat, and you will learn that a minor altitude difference completely breaks enemy pathfinding. The result of which is that if you get into a fight with multiple enemies, you can jump on a barrel and shoot at them and become an invincible god that can rain arrows on your foes who have become spontaneously lobotomised. Not so immersive now, is it. In short the game often feels broken and its clear they had no idea how to structure a game in an enjoyable way. Which is unfortunate, because otherwise the world is so well realised, the depictions of nature and medieval buildings are fantastic and the larger towns really are impressive. And the characters were often much more interesting than I would have expected from a realistic depiction of the time period. However, the game is really let down by the aforementioned points, to the point where I really cannon continue. Hopefully the second game is an improvement.

Icecream with pieces of sharp glass I loved the immersion, the idea and intentions behind the game, you really feel like being the main hero, so many ideas there, very good story telling and intention. I would even say the introduction chapter is totally amazing. But, there are so many issues with the game, making it dangerous to play. - Bugs foremost, still after years I even had to once completely restart game, as one important NPC simply disappeared from the game and nothing helped (tournament herald). - Fight system: On PC, basically impossible to reliably use combos. I managed to pull these off only in 1on1 on flat terrain. But if there are multiple enemies, moving around on uneven terrain, you can forget it, I managed to pull off the most simple one only 1/5 times at best. - Fight system II: If you try to create even the smallest distance, enemies magically catch up and tackle you to ground like Usain Bolt on super-steroids. The mechanics was to prevent baiting and killing off groups one by one, but this is really terrible decision how to avoid that. - WoT features (Waste of Time) - many things there are simply taking too much time without any justification. In some cases most likely a feature should have been and abandoned, in some cases it tastes like intention for the game to take 20hrs just to wash your hands. - Game logic: Or things totally not understandable, just an example: You get so much meat from one rabbit, that you would feed whole city for 1 month, but it spoiles before you manage to get back to town. It is nice, that the spoil timer is 2 days, but as 1 game-day EQ ca 90min, when you reach the city, you have only stinky slime in your pocket. - did I mention bugs? Overall I am happy I played the game, as the positives exceed the negatives in the first play, but at the thought of playing again I get really sick. -- Tried the Hardcore mode after the normal, very good ideas there, but you have to be an expert in the game to be able to enjoy it and I could not bring myself to play the game again ... ever.

Right out the gate the combat sucks, anyone who said you have to get used to it is coping. Also be fine with constantly getting stuck in EVERYTHING. Bushes, random holes, piles of wood nest to buildings. I really really wanted to like this game, but the garbage saving system mixed with the random encounters of bandits that will stagger you to death with swords has made me lose hours and hours of progress and even more mental sanity. I only played this because i originally heard about KCD2 and heard you should try this first. If the second game is anything as atrocious as this mess of a game it might not be worth my time.

I'll probably never pick up the game again, what a waste of money. I just lost an hour and a half of gameplay because the game didn't allow saving earlier. This is ridiculous, I can't recommend this to anyone. There is no reason for a video game to prevent saves like this, it doesnt add to the gameplay, it doesnt make people more careful, its just unneeded frustration. I only have an hour or so after work to play. Who is this game for?? Edit: I modded it to hell. Thank God for modders, doing the job devs are incapable of. You can pick up infinite save mod, stamina extender mods, the arrow dot mod, the bag of holding mod, and a few others to make the game playable.

As a big history enthusiast this game was a blast for me. Having said that I still would admit that it is not without its flaws. The story, while slow-paced at times, is really good. The world the developers created also feels quite realistic. Another thing I rather liked are the entries about the life in the medieval times one is able to read as the game progresses. The skill system in the game is enjoyable to use and requires practice to get better, making the game more immersive in tandem with a slew of other mechanics, like: needing to sleep, hunger and cleanliness. Another of those immersive elements is the effect the character’s clothing has on social interaction and stealth. The visual side of the game is quite beautiful with sprawling forests, meadows and fields interspersed with villages, towns and castles. Truth be told, I would sometimes just ignore looking for the next quest objective and go gather flowers in the fields instead, while doing some sightseeing. In terms of combat the game is quite challenging, especially at the beginning, before you can afford a decent armour and learn some necessary skills. Melee combat is rather demanding in terms of player’s reflexes. As for archery the difficulty comes from entirely different thing – the lack of a reticule, which makes aiming a real conundrum. A mechanic I really enjoyed in the game was potion making. Even after unlocking the ability to make discovered potion recipes automatically, I would still spend hours on end manually making them, because of how good the mechanic felt. As for the previously mentioned flaws. In my opinion the combat was a bit too difficult in the early game, while I understand the reasoning behind such decision (the character has no combat experience whatsoever), it still can put a lot of players off the game. Another problem where the immersion breaking, impassable bushes strewn throughout the map. They are extremely annoying when trying to find a shortcut to the next quest location and getting stuck on them can end up forcing the player to reload a save, and that is a real nightmare in a game where saving is tied to having a resource available, an important moment in a story or resting in a bed. In conclusion, Kingdom Come Deliverance is a deeply immersive game with a great, though at times slow-paced, story and stunning environment. The combat is rather difficult and requires fast reflexes of the player to do well in it. While the game has some problems, it is still an enjoyable experience. I would recommend it to anyone who loves both games and history, and is not easily put off by difficult combat mechanics.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a bold and ambitious RPG from Warhorse Studios that sets itself apart by striving for historical accuracy and realism in a richly detailed medieval world. Rather than leaning on fantasy elements or supernatural themes, the game immerses players in 15th-century Bohemia, where survival depends on realistic combat, authentic social dynamics, and careful attention to daily life. This grounded approach creates a unique role-playing experience that feels both fresh and challenging. One of the most remarkable aspects of Kingdom Come: Deliverance is its commitment to authenticity. The game’s open world is painstakingly crafted based on historical research, with realistic towns, landscapes, and period-appropriate characters. Combat mechanics are complex and deliberate, emphasizing timing, stamina, and skill rather than button-mashing. The learning curve can be steep, especially for those unfamiliar with medieval swordplay, but mastering the intricacies of fencing and archery feels immensely rewarding and adds depth to every encounter. The narrative centers on Henry, a blacksmith’s son thrust into a violent civil war, and the storytelling is engaging without feeling forced. Quests often involve multiple approaches—whether through diplomacy, stealth, or direct confrontation—allowing players to shape their own path. The dialogue system and character interactions are nuanced, reflecting the social hierarchy and cultural norms of the time, which enriches immersion and role-playing opportunities. Visually, Kingdom Come: Deliverance impresses with its detailed environments and atmospheric lighting, capturing the rugged beauty and harshness of medieval life. The world feels alive, from bustling market towns to dense forests, although occasional technical hiccups and bugs can disrupt the experience. The soundtrack and ambient sounds effectively enhance the mood, from tense battle sequences to quiet moments in the countryside. Overall, Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a rewarding but demanding RPG that offers a rare glimpse into medieval life with an emphasis on realism and historical fidelity. It may not appeal to those seeking fast-paced action or fantasy escapism, but for players who appreciate thoughtful storytelling, authentic combat, and immersive world-building, it delivers a deeply satisfying journey through a turbulent period of history. Rating: 8/10

I have tried every fix in the book to get past a bugged out quest. Multiple play throughs, console commands, mods, coding, -devmode, etc. I have spent 5 of those in game hours trying to fix a problem. And it all has to do with reputation. I decided to play the first one before the second. Now I don't think I'll even buy the other! How the hell do I have a good reputation with Runt's bandits?! I keep failing the Baptism quest bc the game thinks the Cumans and the Bandits are my allies. I've done everything. And now I officially give up. Uninstalled, wish I could get my money back.....

Overall a very fun story RPG and one of the most immersive and realistic mediveal simulators that exist. 100% play this before KCD2 Gameplay: Fucking awesome. The quests are fun, there's always something to do, and frankly the game can be so absurd sometimes its funny. Yeah it is relatively pretty buggy compared to most popular titles, but I've never experienced a game-breaking bug Difficulty: Oh boy. Lemme tell you, rush the main story until you go on the early hunting quest, and TRAIN WITH BENARD!!! The game is very hard at first and even mid game it can be hard to take down a few armored enemies at once. However, late game Henry becomes a fucking god. Oh yeah and you need potions to save, so..........if ur busy I'd highly install a "save anytime" mod Graphics: Feels pretty "realistic". It's not flashy, but it is still beautiful, whereas other games still hold up but slap a fuck ton of shaders. Mind you I played with medium settings, so that could play a huge role. Optimization: I got like 40-70fps on 1440p Medium with my RTX 2060, so honestly kinda demanding considering it released in the beginning of 2018. Story: Again quests are amazing, and while the main quests aren't the best, hey I mean I enjoyed them. Overall: 9/10. Would probably play again, but I need to countinue right where I started ;)

Very realistic. I would recommend playing on PC because of lockpicking and in my opinion it's just more enjoyable. Great storyline and sidequests.

I went in blind. I played it twice back to back. Racked up over 500 hours of playtime. Reminded me just how much I loved medieval things when i was a kid. I still have my big Steven Betsies incredible cross sections: Castle book. Grounded and realistic. Your are not the savior of the realm or a hero everyone knows. -for the most part your just a dude.-and the realm is a remote backwater a little behind the rest of Europe that is undergoing the renascence. I've never played a game that felt like the historical advisors had veto power about what is in it as this title does. from social structures of the medieval world to some very impressive historic architecture. Makes you realize a lot of what we assumed as medieval is really pop fantasy stuff made up in the last 200 years. Gave me an appreciation for the modern world a lot more too. Who wants to pay to visit a baths just to do daily shopping? It did ruin other so called historic games for me tho. Marketing this as an elder scrolls type rpg was a huge mistake. You play one dude. Henry of Scalletz -not a rpg character you create. Fans of the Bohemia Interactive Arma military sim series will recognize a lot of the voice actors.

The game is really good, good graphics, good story, and good openworld, People say the combat is bad but i think the combat is super realistic and good even with more than 1 enemy, although less enjoyable with multiple foes it's doable and fun.

Really went under my radar for too long. Super fun RPG if you can adjust and learn the combat. It can be difficult and unforgiving at first, but when you find yourself facing failure, try to change your strategy.

It's only been 4 days, 8 hours and 43 minutes since I booted up this game. Even Henry has more sleep than I do at this point. May the lord watch over me.

If you like games that don't hold your hand, this is a gem. is rough around the edges but it really makes you feel like a medieval peasant trying to survive and working your way up the medieval social ladder. the story is great and the immersion is top notch.

Extremely buggy (still) to the point of frustration. However, still for the most part fun until you have to fight more than one enemy. The system is designed exclusively for fighting one on one and fighting more than one enemy at a time is a cancerous and extremely unfun experience, which might be tolerable if EVERY random and quest encounter wasn't 4-5 enemies, at which point your camera will be wildly jerking around uncontrollably while enemies stunlock you the second you press the sprint button for one nanosecond. People constantly defend this by saying it's "realistic", which is ridiculous as the main concerns in multiple person combat are the hard-lock camera which forces you to power stare at one person with extremely limited ability to actually respond to the situation (even when you're good at lock switching) and the fact that pressing sprint to unlock the camera and gain range gives all enemies an instant 'stunlock' button for some reason. These two extremely unrealistic and, more importantly, unfun mechanics mean that the only way to effectively manage multiple person combat - even at high levels - is to walk backwards, repeatedly stab, and fish for master strikes for like 5+ minutes while praying the camera doesn't have a seizure and force you to spin around and die, because any enemy out of your locked-on sight range can score free combos and stuns against you. Henry has zero situational awareness, and fighting as him in these conditions doesn't feel like fighting a group of people as a master swordsman, it feels like piloting a mech or driving a tank and trying to line your swiveling cannon up against one of the 4 other tanks maneuvering around you. Also your tank has big glowing fuel tanks on the back and sides. This is, in fact, not what fighting multiple people with swords looks like in real life, and it's irritating to see so many characterize a system which was built to simulate duels and is incredibly clunky and busted against multiple enemies as being 'realistic' which you just need to get better at to enjoy. It is simply badly built for this task. Good at simulating duels, but this ranks among the worst simulators for fighting multiple enemies ever made, which is unacceptable when that's nearly every combat. (Worst here is defined as least fun, not least realistic. It is in fact harder to defend your sides and back, although not completely impossible as this game's combat system suggests.) Unfortunately, the main game is like this at many parts as well, with a compelling and well written narrative buried underneath many monotonous and buggy fetch quests (looking at you Woman's Lot) much like an engaging 1v1 combat system is buried under a game that only ever has you fighting groups. Despite all this I'm probably going to keep playing it because it's the best and most immersive medieval RPG out there. TL;DR - 100% eurojank which is often quite disrespectful of your time and has fundamentally broken aspects which you will almost surely find extremely unfun (this game has a huge dropoff after about 10 hrs played, which is when you'll start doing multiple enemy combat regularly) BUT it does have a soul glimmering underneath all the grunge that you can work out. If you decide to soldier on I strongly recommend disengaging with large combats whenever at all possible. Just ride away on your horse and shoot people with a bow tbh. Addition after 40 additional hours: Half the fucking quests are bugged and broken too. Anyone who tells you they've fixed the bugs is a colossal moron. Sleeping people have full vision cones for pickpocketing, you can regularly get stuck on your horse and unable to dismount, and I just lost over an hour of progress because of a five year old unfixed bug where a race orchestrator doesn't recognize you walking over the finish line and gaslights you that you lost the race despite winning. Fuck this broken ass game, I wanted to like it so bad and it's great for dressing up as a medieval knight in an immersive setting, but everything to do with gameplay is HORRENDOUS. I wish I could give it two thumbs down. So little of this game is fun to play and so much is frustrating.
